Addictive facebook use among university students
The Facebook has become an essential part of almost every university students’ daily life, and while a large
number of students seem to get benefits from use of the Facebook by exchanging information for educational
goals, make friends, and other activities, the literature indicates that this social networking site can become
addictive to some university students’ users, which is one of the today’s higher education matters. The aim of this
study, therefore, is to explore the phenomenon of Facebook addiction among university students. Qualitative
study using interview is used to gather data from nine International postgraduates of Universiti Putra Malaysia
and the data established three themes (Compulsion to check Facebook, High frequency use, and Using Facebook
to avoid offline responsibility) relied on the participants interviews. The findings from these three themes
showed that these users considered their Facebook dependency, are known as salience, tolerance, and conflict.
These results also lead to the conclusion that like most activities, moderation and controlled use are key. So, the
best approach to preparing students for life in a knowledge-based society is to help them exercise self-control
and achieve a level of balance when using Facebook. It is believed that the findings of this study would help
other Facebook researchers by contributing to the limited academic literature in this area.

What would a successful and sustainable model of this look like? This project was presented at the ASME Scientific Meeting 2018 in Gateshead, UK by Leicester Medical School students Jasmine Gandhi, Marie Harrison, Harvey Thompson, Numan Yousaf, and Vanessa Rodwell, with Educational Designer Terese Bird.

contact, interaction, and communication among people living around the globe via the internet. Millions of
students are logging in to these social networking sites, every day. That’s why many students have been blaming
various social networking sites for their steady decrease in grade point averages which has affected their study
time, poor grammar, and wrong spellings when socializing on social media as well as diverting their attention
from their studies. The objective of this research is to find the Effect of Social Network Sites on Students’
Academic Performance in Secondary Schools, Hargeisa Somaliland. A quantitative research design was
conducted among 4 Secondary schools, two public secondary high schools (SHS), and two private SHS. These
are 26 June Secondary School, Mohamoud A. Ali Secondary School, Noradin Secondary School, and Ilays
Secondary School. A well-structured questionnaire was prepared and which were distributed among students
using the probability sampling technique (random number table). Finally, a simple linear regression was
calculated to predict the effect of social networks sites (SNS) on students' academic performance. There was a
significant effect of Social Network Sites on students' academic performance.

It aims to determine if online learning has a negative impact on communication, and how communication can be improved. The study surveyed 40 students from Datamax College of Saint Adeline Meycauayan who were new to online classes on Google Classroom and Google Meet. The results found that a majority of students preferred face-to-face learning and reported a lack of motivation and understanding of materials online. The study concluded that online learning has had a negative impact on communication and effectiveness between instructors and students.

This study analyzed social network data from students in a master's program over 10 years to investigate the relationship between social ties and academic performance. Descriptive statistics showed no missing data from the institutional records. Regression analysis found that higher closeness and eccentricity centrality were positively associated with GPA, supporting the hypothesis that greater social capital is linked to better performance. Further, students in the top two quartiles for social capital had significantly higher GPAs than those in the bottom two quartiles, indicating cross-class social ties benefit academic achievement.

On the basis of random sampling a sample of 300 students was selected. Questionnaire was used as an instrument for data collection.97% questionnaire received back from respondents on which descriptive statistics apply for data analysis. Results indicate that the effect of social media can be positive as in this study closely determined the real effect of social media sites. This study analyzes the use of social media for teacher professional development at a university in Saudi Arabia. It found that teachers' professional learning needs were sometimes better addressed through informal networked activities on social media compared to formal institutional activities. A questionnaire and interviews with teachers found that social media provides opportunities for economical and mobile collaboration between teachers globally in real-time to share ideas, experiences and resources. While some content online can be irrelevant, teachers saw value in using social media as a supplemental tool for ongoing, collaborative professional development if encouraged by policymakers.
