What Is The Theme Of The Green Goblin
In 2002, Sam Raimi directed the first Spider Man movie of the three part series. In this movie, the
famous Marvel comic book character, Peter Parker, adapts to his newfound super powers after
being bitten by a genetically enhanced spider on a high school field trip to OSCORP. Throughout
this movie, he battles the infamous villain the Green Goblin, otherwise known as Norman Osborn,
in New York City. Peter Parker is an outsider at his high school and has a crush on the beautiful and
popular Mary Jane Watson, who is also Peter s next door neighbor, and she dates the typical high
school jock. Peter s only true friend is Harry Osborn, the son of Norman Osborn. Peter was raised
by his aunt, May and uncle, Ben, after his parents died in a plane... Show more content on

The color green has been associated with monsters such as Shrek, Frankenstein, The Wicked Witch
of the West, the Hulk, and the Green Goblin. Although this color is associated with life, renewal,
and nature, it has a double entendre and can be associated with greed, jealousy, and envy. For
example, the common phrase that corresponds to jealousy is the green eyed monster , which is the
term personified. These traits are exposed in Norman Osborn through his counterpart, the Green
Goblin. Before the chaos, Norman Osborn was just the average successful white businessman.
However, through the injection of the enhancing green serum, the immoral parts of himself
emerged and turned him into this villain. The storyline of Osborn was used to show the unethical
side of corporate businesses. He was used to show that everyone, including the upper class society,
has underlying evil in them. The color of the Goblin s costume and serum were green to manifest
his jealousy and greed. Through Norman Osborn, the directors shed light on the issues of corporate
greed and

Summary Of False Confessions In Popular Culture
I chose an article from the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Criminology and Criminal Justice.
The title of the article is False Confessions in Popular Culture. I chose this article because I ve
always been fascinated with criminal interviews. I ve attended numerous interview and
interrogation courses throughout my career. One of the best interview schools I ever attended was
Reid interview and interrogation. One of the most debated subjects in all of these courses was false
confessions. The reason I liked the Reid interview and interrogation course is because they offered
different techniques on how to avoid false confessions.
The article starts out discussing all the emotions associated with false confessions and how the
news media and television shows have popularized false confessions. People undoubtedly have
made false confessions for years. The article discusses how the media and tv shows have ... Show

Suspects make compliant false confessions due to avoid the stress of a harsh police interrogation.
Interrogations are stressful and worrisome on both the guilty and the innocent. It s hard to believe
that someone would admit to falsely committing a criminal act merely to avoid a harsh interview,
but it does happen. Another reason that people make complaint false confessions is that they feel
they will receive less severe punishment.
Persuaded false confessions is when a suspect during a police interview begins to doubt or
second guess themselves and falsely confesses to a criminal act, despite having no memory of it.
Interrogators have to be careful not to use suggestive interview techniques because they can cause
or can generate false memories of committing crimes (Shaw Porter, 2015). Over the course of my
career, I ve had numerous people make false confessions. That s why interview schools are so

Conflict Resolution And Resolving Workplace Conflicts
Conflict Resolution
Conflicts are inevitable. It is necessary for the advanced practice nurse to have skills in
approaching conflicts, negotiations, and resolutions (Hamric, Hanson, Tracy, Grady, 2014).
According to Hamric et al. (2014), you do not have to feel pressured to instantly agree with other
teammates; however, be respectful and listen intently and identify what you are able to offer to the
team.
Conflicts occur because of the different points of view. They can also happen because of various
morals, values, and work ethic. In a multinational team there is bound to be conflicts. Those
conflicts will transpire and require resolution. Problem solving with negotiations can lead to a quick
resolution.
Communication
Communication is essential with resolving workplace conflicts. Communicate clearly and
frequently. No employee wants to be uninformed or left out of the loop, especially regarding
important decisions. Communicating with each other not only helps everyone to do a better job, it
reduces stress and increases job performance (Lee, 2008).
Unsatisfied Patient
The patient drove 75 miles to have her biopsy. The physician was too busy and he scheduled the
patient to see the nurse practitioner. The nurse practitioner apologized that she would not be able to
perform the biopsy. The nurse practitioner could not perform the biopsy, as it was not within her
scope of practice within that state.

Disadvantages And Disadvantages Of Anodized Cookware
Anodizing is an industrial process applied to metals to make them harder and more resistant to
corrosion. Metals gradually degrade when in contact with moisture and when exposed to air, a
process known as oxidation. They form an oxide layer which is softer than the metal and can
easily be peeled away either mechanically, like when it rusts, or chemically, such as when it
combines with other substances such as strong acids and bases.
Anodization takes advantage of this process by treating the oxidized surface of the metal with
electric current forming a hard surface that is resistant to manual or chemical corrosion. However,
this explanation is too simplified and the actual chemical process is far more complex. Anodization
technology has grown ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The melting point of aluminium (1221 degrees Fahrenheit) is much higher than that typically found
in the kitchen, making these pots a logical choice for intensive cooking environments.
Easy To Maintain
Hard anodized kitchenware does not require intense cleaning and will usually be cleaned
satisfactorily in soap and water. It is dishwasher safe on its own, although handles and the rivets
that attach them may not withstand harsh dishwashing detergents depending on the material they
are made of. This makes anodized cookware a favorite for regular cooks as well as professional
chefs.
Non Toxic
The process of anodizing creates a tough, strong, non reactive layer which solves the problem of
possible toxicity. Most of the anodized pots and pans are made of aluminium as the base. On its
own, aluminium is a soft metal and reacts easily with food which means it will be ingested leading
to health problems. Anodized cookware is a better option compared to plain aluminium.
Disadvantages Of Using Hard Anodized Cookware
Expensive
Anodized cookware is a superior cooking material but it doesn t come cheap. With increased
improvements in anodization technology, anodized cookware gets even more expensive by the

Film Analysis Of Sleeping Beauty
Sleeping Beauty
The film Sleeping Beauty , produced by Charles Perrault, is set as a tale which involves a
princess, a handsome prince, and an evil witch. The story is about, Princess Aurora, who was
stabbed with the spindle as a baby and overcome the curse of an evil witch. She fell asleep for one
hundred years, and could only be saved only by charming Prince Phillip. In the Sleeping Beauty,
Charles Perrault used a number of Aristotle s elements such as the plot to structure storylines for his
film.
The film has an interesting plot and opened with a shot of turning pages of a storybook, showing a
fantastical nature of the following tale. The story introduced King Stefan and his wife, who finally
conceived their first child after years of wanting one. Supporters from all over Stephan s kingdom
brought gifts and celebrated the birth. Stefan invited King Hubert, a king from his neighboring
kingdom. Hubert s young son, Prince Phillip engaged to the baby princess Aurora, was part of the
celebration.
At the festivities, there were three godmotherly fairies from the forest that came to shower gifts
on the baby princess. Flora delivered the gift of beauty, and Fauna gave Aurora the gift of song.
But before spunky little Merryweather could have present her gift, the evil witch Maleficent
appeared in a rush of wind. In bitter response because she was not invited to the celebration, the
black witch cursed Aurora. She stated that the princess will prick her finger on the spindle of a
spinning wheel on her sixteenth birthday and die. . Merryweather couldn t reversed the curse, but
she changed the effect of the prick to a deep sleep instead of death, out of which the princess could
be awakened by the kiss of true love. King Stefan ordered a bonfire of all the spinning wheels in
the kingdom, trying to avoid the witch s powerful curse. Sadly, he allowed the three fairies to take
Aurora away from the kingdom in order to protect her, hide her, and raise her without magic. They
also renamed Princess Aurora to Briar Rose.
After Sixteen years passed in the kingdom, the most important day of Rose s sixteenth birthday
arrived. The witch still had not yet found Aurora because, as she realized only today, her henchmen

A Better Future with Green Technology
A Better Future with Green Technology INF 103: Computer Literacy Professor Robert Strain
February 25, 2012 We live in the 21st century which has been called the century of the
environment . Our nation s leaders and individual citizens are coming to an understanding that we
can not assume any longer that problems such as pollution, climate changes and the dwindling
amount of natural resources can be put off for a future generation to deal with (Green
Technology, 2010). There are many uses and reasons for green technology. However, with the use
of green technology we can have a healthier, cleaner and possibly longer future. In this paper, I
will be discussing just a few of those many uses. The term technology refers to the application of...

Drum, NY has one of the world s largest solar installations which currently heats the entire base

which is aimed at reducing not only energy use on bases and also on water use and waste. The
U.S. Navy is aiming for half of its bases to have net zero energy consumption by 2020. The Army
is planning to install rooftop solar installations in as many as 160,000 private military home in
33 different states to help with energy costs (Westervelt, 2012). The Navy has commissioned a
ship that is energy efficient. It is called the Makin Island. It is the first amphibious assault ship to
replace its steam boilers with gas turbines. It is also the first Navy surface ship to be equipped
with both gas turbinesand an auxiliary propulsion system (Department of Defense, 2009) The
trucking industry is also continuously evolving to be be more green. Carriers are going with
cleaner trucks to get better fuel mileage and help cut out on harmful emissions. These days there
are numerous opportunities for a carrier to turn their fleet into a green fleet (Britton, 2010).

An Ethical Mind That Respect For Others Into Something...
According to The Harvard Business Review An ethical mind broadens respect for others into
something more abstract. A person with an ethical mind asks herself, What kind of a person,
worker, and citizen do I want to be? If all workers in my profession adopted the mind set I have, or
if everyone did what I do, what would the world be like? (Fryer). I believe I definitely have an
ethical mind, ever since I was child I always wondered what kind of overall person I would be
and how that would affect others and my character. I always try to be as respectful and morally
honest to everyone I come across and every situation in my life. I have actually wondered what if
everyone not only in my profession, but in the world had the same mentality... Show more content

A deontologist focuses on doing what is right . Like stated above, a lot of my ethical background
has come from the characteristics I was taught as a child such as honesty, fairness, and respect for
others.
Although I do not have much professional leadership experience, in my personal and what I
believe my profession style would be is a coaching approach. A coaching approach is a high
directive high supportive style. In this approach, the leader focuses communication on both
achieving goals and meeting followers socioemotional needs (Northouse, 2016, p.94). These
types of leaders are approachable, provide personal and professional support, and are friendly.
This is the kind of leader I would want to be, efficient in work productivity, but also welcoming
and supportive of my employees. This style of leadership builds trust and honesty, which makes
employees more likely to present ethical dilemmas to you, because they know the issue will be
dealt with in a fair and just manner.
One leadership model that I value is Blake and Mouton s Managerial (Leadership) Grid. The
Leadership (Managerial) Grid joins concern for productions and concern for people in a model
that has two interesting axes (Northouse, 2016, p.75). The horizontal axis signifies the leader s
concern for production, and the vertical axis signifies the leader s concern for people. Each side
of the grid is drawn to a 9 point scale, in which a 1 stands for minimum concern and a 9 stands for
maximum

The On The Fourth Amendment
The Fourth Amendment generally requires a warrant for the search and seizure of personal
property, but no warrant is necessary when the owner voluntarily consents to the search or seizure.
However, an owner may revoke his or her permission prior to the completion of the search, and the
court admits the evidence found prior to the owner revoking consent. The United States Court of
Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit has repeatedly held that the government may search a photocopy
of a document after the owner revokes consent. The Eleventh Circuit has not addressed the issue of
whether searching a mirror image copy of a computer hard drive may occur after the owner
revokes consent. In United States v. Sharp, the Northern District Court of Georgia determined that
although the searching methods for paper documents and computers differ, a government official
may search a mirror image computer copy made during the scope of the owner s consent.
II.FACTUAL BACKGROUND The FBI investigated Gary Sharp and others in their connection
with an online site named www.applanet.net. The investigators suspected the online site of
providing users access to different copyrighted media. On August 21, 2012, Agents Kabrhel and

Island address, Sharp s parents revealed to the FBI Agents that Sharp currently lived in an

Pros And Cons Of Killin Killing Others In The Act Of...
Self defense is the use of reasonable force in order to protect ourselves or our members of family
from bodily harm from being attack of the attacker, if the defendant has his/her own logical
reasoning to consider that he/she is in danger situation. According to law, self defense is defined
as a natural defense by a person who was implicated with assault, battery or homicide. The forces
used for self defense that is sufficient for protection from real danger (not just an empty verbal

The extended self preservation provisions all derived from the old English common law concept
that individuals have a right to defend their homes. According to Flatow (2013), the owners may
have the permissions to safeguard their properties from intruders even if they have to use deadly
force. People also can use these laws when they are threatened to the death as it would trigger the
individuals fear of death. Besides, the reason of killing others is to retrieve stolen properties as
there is no other way to protect those properties especially at night. It is also to prevent someone

Marriage and Individuality
God created marriage as a union between man and woman. A woman, while still having a mind of
her own and control over her own life, is under the authority of her husband. This frightens some
women, who fear oppression at the hands of their husbands. While it is true that some men abuse
the system that God set up for man and woman, not all men act as such. The Bible states
monogamy is what God laid down as a foundational law of marriage,
[...the Creator made them male and female...] For this reason a man will leave his father and
mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh ? So they are no longer two,
but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate. (Mathew 19.5 6).

Harriet finds Phoebe, an old friend from her years in college, interesting, because her marriage is
like a dream. She has not changed a bit, and although she has children, she and her husband
continue to go gallivanting about the world in search of adventure (Sayers, 14 15). Though
Phoebe and her husband are not very successful parents, Phoebe s marriage is one of the success
stories that begin to change Harriet s mindset about the concept of marriage from it being repulsive
to it being something desirable. Marriage is works through compromise between the husband and
wife; a woman who does not wish to be a housewife, but prefers to work can discuss her feelings
with her husband in order to generate a resolution that leaves both the adults and the children happy
with the result.
Marriage is a union of two people, melding their old lives with their new one. Mark and Jane
insist on maintaining entirely separate lives, which keeps their marriage from working (That

they communicate with one another (Talboys, 32). When a couple is united, they can combat any
force that comes against them. In Talboys, Harriet s whole opinion on the institution of marriage
has shifted. She and her husband, Lord Peter Wimsey, get along very well, and she is still able to

Forgiveness In Marinere s View Of Sea Snakes

Defeat at the Battle of Little Bighorn
In this essay I shall be writing and explaining about the defeat at the battle of Little Bighorn. I will
be writing about why the battle began in the first place. How it could have been prevented. And
who was to blame for the defeat. I will also be examining why Custer decided to attempt to conquer
the Sioux nation by himself, his attitude and ambitions and his personality. His background, his
confidence, the battle itself and the reasons why he failed are also factors I will be exploring. As
well I will be writing about why mistakes were made .

Once George McClellan had lost his job, Custer then went back to the Calvary and made
incredible leaps in rank. Between July 1862 and July 1863, he went from first lieutenant to

1865, Custer became a Major General at the mere age of 23. Custer fought with courage was
incredibly brave as he would not let his men do something that he would not do himself. Up until
the Battle of Little Bighorn, he was invincible because he had won all 51 of his battles and wars.
The battle in Waschita 1868 was one of his best victories because he managed to kill the chief

After the war Custer s ego became to grow. He became an over confident, egotistic, flamboyant

While science fiction was once primarily about science, it has since evolved into a far reaching

Capulet And Juliet Relationships
The relationship between Juliet and her parents, Lord Capulet and Lady Capulet is unhealthy
because of the lack of communication between them. Juliet has a stronger relationship and has
more communication with the nurse rather than with her parents, which leads to their relationship
being weak. The lack of communication between them leads to many conflicts in the story. In
the beginning Lady Capulet wants to have a discussion with Juliet and insist the nurse be there
and says, ..nurse come back again;/I have remember d me, thou shalt hear our counsel./Thou

this discussion because she does not even know/remember Juliet s age or interest. When Lord

Economic Changes In The United States
Does the economy changing effect the country? The economy changing has many differing factors
to determine how society is run. An economy change will greatly impact the people it ll also
impact the way they live. But you need change to grow and get better. Economic change also
impacts culture and politics, society and technology. Economic changes everything and everyone
for better or for worse.
A great example of this is back in the 1800 s with Boss Tweed and his rain of terror. He knew how
to manipulate people to do what he wanted. And in this time period there were many immigrants
coming into the united states from all over. They came from a different countries with different
governments so they didn t understand the government in the United States. They didn t understand
democracy, they didn t understand that they had the power, they didn t understand that they had
human rights. So Boss Tweed took advantage of this he promised them food and shelter for their

The United States Armed Forces Essay
There are currently 2,204,836 people serving in the United States Armed Forces. Females currently
make up 16.2% of those currently serving equating to 358,156 this number includes both enlisted,
reserve, and the officer corps. While the Armed Forces has downsized, the percentage of females
serving has increased with females now making up 17.8% of all active duty personnel and roughly
thirty nine thousand serving as active duty officers. With the increasing diversity of the military,
Secretary of Defense Ash Carter officially opened all positions to females on 03 JAN 2016, in a
move to better strengthen the Armed Forces. (Demographics, 2013)
In 1981, the Supreme Court of the United States(SCOTUS) ruled on Rostker v. Goldberg that
stated, women would not be required to register for the Selective Service System(SSS) because
they are not able to serve in direct combat roles in any branch of the Armed Forces.(Rostker v.

there indirectly. Until the announcement by Secretary Carter on 03 DEC 2015 females were not
allowed to directly serve in combat units, or special operations. This change in policy by the

females having to register for the SSS. The SSS currently registers all males between the ages of

Hamstring Strain Essay
Hamstring strain injuries are one of the most common sport related injuries involving high speed,
kicking movements (Marc. A., et al 2004). Despite there being evidence that hamstring strains
occur at both stages of movements; the early stance phase where the muscle absorbs the most force
as a result of high ground reaction and the late swing phase, the hamstrings eccentrically contract to
absorb the kinetic energy and slow the lower limb putting the hamstrings under a large amount of
stress (Schmitt. B., et al 2012)
Heiderscheit et al (2010) States that hamstring strains in high speed running, generally occur in the

Does John F Kennedy Use Anaphora In Jfk Inaugural Address
In John F. Kennedy s Inaugural Address, he speaks to the citizens of the United States and other
nations around the globe. His purpose is to not only establish his own credibility as the new
President of the United States, but also to motivate his audience to change for the better and
listen to his words. Kennedy uses a confident and energetic tone for the citizens of the U.S. and
those who want to find out who the new American President is. He emphasizes his main ideas
using anaphora, chiasmus, alliteration, and abstract words, and it invokes a desire to come
together as a nation and make a difference in the world. Kennedy s speech is a monumental
moment in history, and one of the most effectual rhetorical devices he uses is anaphora. In
paragraph fifteen through eighteen he says, Let both sides explore. . . Let both sides, for the
first time, formulate. . . Let both sides seek. . . Let both sides unite. . . This is an example of
anaphora because the beginning phrase repeats and ends with a different verb. These phrases
change the audience s sceptical outlook on his incredible speech, because he fulfills his purpose
of unifying the nation. This use of anaphora is well placed in his speech. Since it is about two
thirds into his address, Kennedy has already established his credibility and the audience is willing
to listen to his advice. The second reason these anaphora phrases are so powerful is the repetition
implemented. Human brains are naturally programmed to

Genghis Khans Effect On The Management Of Conquered...
Genghis Khans effect on the Management of conquered civilizations.
The Mongol empire was one of the most prevalent, feared, and influential empires to ever gallop
across this earth. They were revolutionaries of there time. There military tactics, horsemanship, and
leadership system all helped maintain and profligate an immense powerhouse that reaped havoc on
anyone standing in there path. However it was there governance and leadership after they had
conquered these lands that was most surprising

Temujin s ability to unify these radically polar people was the jumping off point in the reign and
legacy of the Mongol empire. His sheer capability and practices were then engrained into
successors that was most impressive. The Mongolian Empire speedily conquered staggering
amounts of land in only a finite amount of time, but their most imposing obstacle was finding a
way to govern these foreign lands. Genghis Khan was the first to integrate the Mongols into these
societies, and with their expert military skills, they overthrew surrounding nations and captured
their lands. Genghis knew that he couldn t adopt an umbrella policy for vastly differing nations, so
the Mongols who occupied each subjected nation reigned over the people and installed different
governmental structures that suited particular societies. One of his monumental creations that
defined ruling structure, was that of his Yasa. This was essentially a guide on the ethics and
precedence s of the Mongols. It created stability within Mongol s that allowed them to focus on
maintaining their grip on other colonies without infringing too much upon the culture.
The Golden horde was the main military reckoning of the Mongols and is what allowed them to
take over and acculturate into such expansive quantity of terrain in such brief amount of time. The

Weeping Woman
Pablo Picasso s, Weeping Woman (1937), is a most expressive and eccentric image of a woman
in distress. The geometry and shapes in the painting are imaginative and outrageous, with bright
colors and shapes of boats and flowers that are, to some extent humorous, except for the
profound suffering of the women. The eyes of the women are shaped as boats within a rough
sea, spilling tears in the form of diamonds. Diamond shaped tears are also the nails of her hands,
held up to her face in fright. With a single image Picasso expresses a complex array of human
anguish; terror, despair, outrage, hysteria, and death. The sad and dark eyed woman is Picasso s
lover Dora Maar, but the woman is also a symbol of a victim of war or a witness to the war... Show

Law and Slave Identity in Dred and Pudd nhead Wilson Essay
Law and Slave Identity in Dred and Pudd nhead Wilson What is a slave? A slave, according to
many of the laws in the individual slave states during the 19th century, was an article of property, a
thing, and an object not human. However, according to another, the 3/5 Compromise of 1787, a
slave was worth 3/5 of a white man. The population of the Southern stateswas heavily African, and
this compromise enabled them to count those slaves as 3/5 of a citizen in order to get more
representation in Congress. What does that mean for interpretations of the law? Can a `thing be
tried for murder, or is a slave a man who has committed only 3/5 of the crime? Unfortunately, laws
often have an ambiguity that allows them to be misinterpreted. In... Show more content on

In particular, Twain and Stowe use the closing speeches of both Wilson and Clayton to make an
attempt at defining the identity of slaves under the law and to stress the complexities of race and the
slave to master relationship.
The trial at the end of Pudd nhead Wilson takes place in Dawson s Landing, Missouri. Lawyer
David Wilson, popularly known as Pudd nhead, is defending Luigi and Angelo Capello, charged
in the murder of Judge York Leicester Driscoll. Wilson chooses to use his closing speech not to
assert the points that he had made through the course of the trial and remind the jury of the
evidence that proves the twin s innocence, but rather to expose the guilty party. This speech
begins with, We will now proceed to find the guilty. (140) The word `guilty is ambiguous,
however, because although the trial is concerned with the murder of Judge Driscoll, Wilson s
closing speech focuses on exposing Tom Driscoll as a Negro who was switched at birth. Out of
nearly two pages of text enclosing Wilson s closing remarks, only about 3 sentences even mention
the murder. The rest are concerned with the mistaken identities of a slave and a white gentleman. It

Cause And Effect Of Volcanos
olcanoes
One of the most destructive acts to occur on the earth s surface, takes place from within the earth
itself. Volcanoes have the effect of destroying everything in its path with its molten hot lava, but
also allows some positive outcomes to occur such as precious jewels.
Volcanoes are parts of the Earth s crust that have been forced in an upward position causing a
mound like landform on the surface or in water. What lies beneath is magma that has been
building up pressure for thousands of years, pushing through a crack or break in the earth s crust
waiting to be released. Once a volcano is finally relived of the pressure, it sends lava flowing and
spewing out of the top. Another thing that volcanoes let off is volcanic ash and gases that can be
very harmful to any living thing if exposed to these elements.
There is more than one type of volcano. Many people think of the triangular mountain type
volcanoes to be the only ones that exist, but this isn t true. This type of volcano is known as the
composite cone, such that Mount Fuji and Mount St. Helens fall under this classification.
Another type is called a shield volcano, which really doesn t look like a volcano at all. They are
made up of overlapping lava flows which keep fanning out and making the effect of a shield like
surface. Another classification of volcanos is known as a cinder cone volcano, it is like the
composite cone but doesn t come to a complete point at the top. It has the look of a cylindrical top

The Agricultural Equipment Industry And Culture On A...
The agricultural equipment industry is one that is very important to the global market because it
impacts both the United State s and Brazil s economies greatly. The balance of trade between the
US and Brazil relies on the success of agricultural equipment as a whole. This paper will analyze
the history of agricultural equipment and how machinery has impacted the farming industry and
culture on a global scale, and continues to do so.
History In order to gain an understanding of the agricultural equipment industry, we have to
acknowledge the history in this area. In the 1920 s, most farmers practiced farming with horses
pulling plows attached to them, which prepped the land for planting crops. Machines that picked
crops had not been invented by the 1920 s, so farmers had to harvest their crops by hand. John
Froelich invented of the first internal combustion traction motor, or tractor and had sold 20 of his
tractors by 1914 through partnering with 8 investors from the Waterloo Gasoline Traction Engine
Company. Eventually, John Deere purchased the first tractor company to ever exist in 1918, and
paid $2,350,000 for it. Needless to say, John Deere has seen a large return on their investment.
Although manufacturers such as John Deere in the United States had began to lead the way in
building and assembling mechanized tractors, this luxury was not widely utilized by farmers
around the country because tractors were both very expensive and limited. Eventually, tractors

Julius Caesar Evil
Shakespeare s tragedy Julius Caesar takes place in Rome at the time of Caesar s assassination.
After Caesar returns home, he is hailed as a war hero, and the citizens of Rome plan to crown him
as their ruler. Cassius, knowing Caesar will soon become a tyrant, convinces the honorable and
well respected Brutus, a good friend of Caesar, to murderhim for the good of the city. Although
many consider Julius Caesarthe hero of the play, Brutus is the true Shakespearean tragic hero. This
is proven first by his inherently honorable character. Furthermore, Brutus s loyalty, which in most
cases is considered a virtue, becomes a sin within the context of the story. Lastly, Brutus becomes
blind to reality, believing the murder of Caesar is a good and necessary act.
First and foremost, Brutus is proven to be a tragic hero by his good character. Brutus, unlike
Caesar, is a humble man, known in the town to be loyal and put others before himself. For
example, while Cassius attempts to rile Brutus up over Caesar s newfound fame, he argues the
point that Brutus has an inherent right to the throne. Brutus responds to this by saying that [he]
had rather be a villager / Than to repute himself a son of Rome (Shakespeare 1.2.180 181). While
Caesar is so intoxicated by the attention and fame he receives that he agrees to rule without any
critical thinking, Brutus, not blinded by greed or pride, is able to clearly see that taking on this
power would not be wise. Very few would be able to resist this opportunity to be at the center of
all this praise, but Brutus is both humble and wise enough to turn down what should be his role
because he realizes the ability to be worshipped is not enough to make a leader. Although literary
critic Harold Bloom argues that Brutus is ... morally rather vain ... [and] powerfully self centered (1
2), it is proven throughout the novel that Brutus has practically no ego and puts the needs of the
Romans before his own. Brutus is modest, intelligent, and at his center, a good person.
Another characteristic of Brutus that defines him as a tragic hero is his virtue of loyalty to Rome
used as a sin. The night before Caesar s downfall, Brutus receives an abundance of letters, declaring
Caesar unfit to be

Black Lives Matter group is united and the movement is alive. A closed fist held in the air
symbolizes black power, equality for African Americans, and justice for cops killing
unprovoked. The salute dates back to ancient Assyria as a symbol of resistance in the face of

was the time where new civil rights laws were passed and there was an urge for racial justice. In
today s society black america is still calling for some kind of power or equality. In the 1960s 70s
the raised fist was used by black nationalists to raise support and awareness for black america.

J.R.R. Tolkien starts his world renowned book The Hobbit with, In a hole in the ground there

is very calm and pleasant for Bilbo, but once the outer limits of the land are reached Bilbo is in

Bilbo listened intently as the dwarves sang songs and told poems of their long ago taken land.
Singing of golden hoards and long forgotten gold Bilbo began to become very enthusiastic about
the soon to come journey (22). As the dwarves went on, the hobbit felt that this journey would be
good for him. He accepted the task, but not before the Dwarves, along with Gandalf, enchanted
the young hobbit with the treasure to be found. Being fairly wealthy Bilbo had no need for this
wealth, but before long the hobbit could feel the love of beautiful things made by hands and by
cunning and by magic moving through him, and a fierce and jealous love, the desire of the hearts
of dwarves (24). Apparently Bilbo is beginning to change from a commoner to a treasure seeker,
not quite beginning to become a hero, but change is still change. Soon Bilbo s transition into a hero
will begin, with a rude awakening.
So before Bilbo new what was happening and even before dawn the next morning the troop of

Within a few leagues of the Shire s border young Bilbo encountered his first adventure. Walking
slowly through the dark, Gandalf quickly stopped and hushed the others. Up above the road a
small fire could be seen and cold, low voices could be heard singing of roasted mutton. Bilbo was

Analysis Of Maxine Hong Kingston s The Woman Warrior
Kejsi Drenova
Paper 2
In The Woman Warrior, Maxine Hong Kingston makes her narration compelling and relatable to
the audience through her unique style of storytelling. The ever present changes in perspective lead
one to see how each event eventually affects Kingston. Her comparison of her life to that of Fa Mu
Lan brings out the difficulties in her living in America while her mother had grown up in China.
This hero myth allows her to connect to those values that Brave Orchid holds which make her so
hard on her daughter. The telling of Brave orchid s talk stories in first person makes their events
more relatable to Kingston, which makes the 4th chapter s telling in the third person all the more
jarring and thought provoking. All in all, Kingston s writing style in this novel serves to make it
evoke a powerful sense of relatability and understanding of her plight. The novel is constantly
changing perspectives in such a manner that a reader feels as though all of the events transpiring
are all part of Kingston s lived experience. The main perspectives present are those of Brave
Orchid, Kingston s brother, and Kingston both as herself and as Fa Mu Lan in her fictional
narrative. These perspective changes serve a number of purposes. The first, of course, keeps the
story very interesting. The changes in narration keep the story from feeling too stale. The main
purpose of these perspective changes is, however, to highlight the feelings of displacement and
alienation from both

Identity, And Social Identity
Social Identity Biography While thinking about who I am , I came across many different
aspects: Gender, ethnicity, religion, race, and much more. On September 11th 1996, I was born
a female (sex) to a middle aged single mother, Betty Scarborough, at U.T. Medical Center. To this
day, my gender remains a woman. Although there are many different races, I was born into this
world a Caucasian (White). When exploring the dating world, I would consider myself as a
heterosexual individual because I only have attractions to males. So, when I was born and in
todays time I would consider myself a female. When looking through my families ethnicity, I am
more Irish than Cherokee. However, I do have some German heritage through my father s side,
according to my mother. Also, when looking at my religion, I would consider my self as Christian.
My familywent to church every time the doors open, this results in why I attend church every
chance I can. I love being able to worship the Lord, and learn more about him. Also, some
religions believe differently than I do and that is totally okay. So, therefore, I have a lot of Irish in
me, and Christianity would be my religion. However, as a child, I would consider myself under the
lower middle classcategory because my mother was a singe parent of three children. She is an
Elementary school teacher, which they do not get paid much when raising three children on her
own. In today s time, I would say I am considered under the working class category because I
make enough to exceed a little over ends meet. Being in the working class is extremely difficult
because paying for bills can sometimes be difficult. So, therefore, as a child, I fell under the
lower middle class, but as a young adult, I unfortunately fall under the working class. During this
time, I would consider myself as a young adult who lives in the United States. There are many
reasons why I chose this category; I am between the ages of 18 to 30, which usually considers an
individual a young adult. Also, being a young adult is the start of having a little more freedom
than being a child. For example, at 18 you can are allowed to buy tobacco products and join the
Army, but when you become 21 of older you are allowed

Theme Of Social Class In Pride And Prejudice
Most living creatures abide by a social structure of some sort. Between groups of animals there is
the dominance of the Alpha, and the submission of the Omega. Among humans, there is a similar
setup, but rather than size and strength, other factors often come into play. Wealth and status with
others make for a bigger social ladder among human beings, and this can cause many weaknesses
in the way people treat one another, and think. There are some who embrace these problems, and
some who wish to change it. Sometimes, it is something as simple as a piece of writing that
addresses these issues. In her novel Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen uses her characters to break
common social classstructure, and reveal that it is actions that define a person, and not circumstance.
In Pride and Prejudice, many of the characters reveal a depth that reaches beyond what is
perceived by even other characters, already revealing the kinks in social class. The main male
protagonist, Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy is one of the most controversial characters, and from the very
beginning has two sides to him that show a person underneath the circumstantial shell. In the article
Themes and Construction: Pride and Prejudice it is noted that What separates Elizabeth and Darcy
from the silly minor characters [...] is their ability and willingness to learn and grow, to overcome
their initial shortcomings (Themes). It is undeniable that Darcy began with amount considerable

This is in sharp contrast to India s largest Asian competitor, China, whose youth workforce is
declining due to regulated birth rates and a spike in college enrollment. (See Figure 1.1) A larger
base of workers for input in emerging markets leads to greater outputs of production, which is
important for shifting the production possibility curve outward and building a strong national
economic base in order to compete globally. In 2005, 50 million Indians fell into the middle class
income bracket with a purchasing parity power between $4,380 and $117,650 (US), but this was
only 5% of the population (Das, 2014, p.26). Current economic and population growth rates predict
that the middle class will swell to 583 million people or 41% of the population by 2025 (Das,

therefore consumption. The rise in Indian consumption patterns are set to continue, and will likely
be directed into increased healthcare, education, private transportation, recreation, and

Why Do 15 Year Olds Get The Right To Vote
Some people suggest that affording children over fifteen the right to vote would lead to a better
society. After all, the more voices are heard in a democracy, the more legitimacy elected leaders
have. Be that as it may, I believe that society would actually be worse off if fifteen year olds were
allowed to vote. Teenagers are too immature to vote, and often simply copy the preferences of their
parents. First and foremost, fifteen, is simply put, not very old. Children at that age lack the
emotional maturity needed to make intelligent decisions when voting. They often feel passionately
about a topic one day only to have their interest fizzle out the next; clearly , that causes problems
when the decisions made affect people throughout society.

It is sad to see how these teenagers think of themselves as being cool because of the activities

are doing a thing about it. Life is worth more than feeling cool. Proverbs says, Since they hated
knowledge...the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will
destroy them (Proverbs 1:29a, 32). The teenagers in We Real Cool have an image of their selves
as being cool on the outside because of the badly behaved things they are taking part in and want
others to think them as being cool. These teenagers want to think that they are cool for doing the
things they do, but they know that the destructive life they live will soon be a factor to their

Eating Disorders Are Potentially Life Threatening...
Back in 2005, Amy, at age 17, was diagnosed with Anorexia nervosa after dropping twenty two
pounds for a school dance. Amy had been under a great amount of stress with organizing their
school ball, trying to find a partner, and getting a dress. She decided to drop weight before this
special occasion. While at the ball, Amy received multiple compliments about her weight loss. This
was a contributing factor to her Anorexia. Soon after, Amy s family noticed she was still dropping
weight. Amy was then given the opportunity to meet with an eating disorder therapist (Amy).
Since starting this therapy, Amy s life has changed dramatically. She began to put on weight, the
grip that anorexia had on her lifted, and she kept inching the weight on. Now, Amy has a boyfriend

Bicameral Legislature Essay
Famous American poet James Russell Lowell once said, Democracy gives every man the right to
be his own oppressor ( Quotations 2011). And it should be just that. James Russell Lowell
successfully defined democracy when it is in its truest form; a citizen s beliefs should be equally
represented and considered for. The representative democracy instated in the United Statespresents
the need for three branches in the government; they include the executive, legislative, and judicial
branch. The Congress embodies the lawmaking branch of the government, having all legislative
powers as it is stated in Article I of the Constitution. To prevent one state from having too much
power over other states, the Congress was separated into the House... Show more content on

They must have the bills checked by both bodies as well as the president and if they disapprove,
a veto can be placed. Another similarity is that both the House and the Senate are also elected
by the people. Although they have some comparisons in the way the House is set up and the
tasks they have to do, there are many distinctions. The House of Representatives contains more
than four times the amount of Senators and serves two year terms compared to a Senator s six
year term. Senators also have to be at least thirty years of age with nine years of citizenship while
the House sets a twenty five year old minimum with seven years of citizenship (Harrison 408).
While the House is led by the Speaker of the House, John Boehner, the Senate is led by the Vice
President, who is currently Joe Biden.
With 435 members in the House, the House of Representatives is known to be the body that
symbolizes the citizens of America. It was intended that the House adhered to the beliefs of the
people more than the Senate did, making the House of Representatives a bit more democratic.
Senators are voted to represent the beliefs of a whole state; while on the other hand, members of
House represent groups of citizens in specific districts of states. Because of this, representatives try
and submit bills that appeal to the voters in their own district. This allows members to

Faustian Bargain Analysis
A Faustian Bargain is a complicated idea which translates in popular terms to selling one s soul
to the devil. This definition consists of four layers. The first layer consists of two different
aspects. The first aspect is doing something evil such as making a deal with the devil in order for
personal gain. The second aspect is in pursuit of a lofty ideal. In pursuing the lofty ideal; the
ideal is corrupted because of the methods to achieve it. The second layer is an unwillingness or
inability to see things as they really are, to see evil as evil. The third layer is the felling of guilt
after making a deal with the devil. The final layer is a third party attempting to convince the person
from completing a Faustian Bargain. Within this layer one must seek whether they are a victim of
external or internal influence. Several common elements of a Faustian Bargain emerge when we
compare Button Button and Dr. Faustus. Those components include motivations of lofty ideals or
self interest, the inability to see things as they really are, remorse, and the persuasion of an external
or internal influence.
Though Norma and Faustus both make a bargain with the devil, their motivations differ. Norma s
motivations are based on self interest. Barnet states that the common definition of a Faustian
Bargain is that some people are so eager to gain immediate power that they engage in actions that
they know are evil (Barnet, vii). Norma s self interest leads her to engage in evil

Summary Of Angela Davis Are Prisons Obsolete
Welcome to Literature Links. This week in the Literature Link s office, we have been thoroughly
captivated by Angela Davis s Are Prisons Obsolete?, a profoundly informative nonfiction text that
encourages the reader to question the universal acceptance of the prison system in contemporary
society. Davis offers an alternative reading on the issue of the relevance of the prisonsystem and
perpetuates the discourse that the entire prison system is unnecessary, harmful and fundamentally
structured upon racist ideologies. Davis, a prominent American abolitionist activist, systematically
evaluates the prison industrial complex in relation to a multitude of discourses such as its history,
the racist ideologies and gender constructs it enforces, and

The Formation Of The United Nations
Indigeneity is a concept that rose internationally as awareness of cultural and minority suppressions
grew in the post World War II sphere. The dissolution of European colonies left behind many
unequal power structures and as nation states defined borders, many local cultural groups became
marginalized and disadvantaged as a result of political hegemony by majority populations. The
formation of the United Nations(U.N.) and the Universal Declaration of Human Rightswere created
to link local and global communities, bypassing the actions of the nation state, in an attempt to
avoid repetition of the atrocities committed in the early part of the century (Niezen 2003, p.19).
Communities involved in indigenous movements were recognized to differ from other movements,
such as civil rights movement, due to their wish to remain distinct from the dominant population
and have their territorial rights recognized and livelihood respected. This desire to continue cultural
and linguistic practices separate from the norm, and continued residence in an area has been a
commonality for groups seeking indigenous status such as the Maasai and the Ogiek in East Africa.
Indigeneity on a global scale has increasingly gained traction as political movements of indigenism
around the world recognize their commonalities in pursuance of their rights. Definitions of the term
indigenous and what it may stand for have differed due to varying condition and circumstance. The
concepts of being a native

Analysis Of John Hawthorne s White Whale
Nathaniel Hawthorne is a standout amongst the most productive symbolists in American writing,
and an investigation of his images is important to comprehension his books. As a rule, an image
is something used to remain for something else. In writing, an image is frequently a solid article
used to speak to a thought more theoretical and more extensive in degree and significance
regularly an ethical, religious, or philosophical idea or quality. Images can go from the clearest
substitution of one thing for another, to manifestations as monstrous, complex, and puzzling as
Melville s white whale in Moby Dick. A moral story in writing is a story where characters, articles,
and occasions have a shrouded importance and are utilized to present some widespread lesson.
Hawthorne has an immaculate climate for the images in The Scarlet Letteron the grounds that the
Puritans saw the world through moral story. For them, basic examples, similar to the meteor
streaking through the sky, got to be religious or good understandings for human occasions. Items,
for example, the framework, were formal images for such ideas as sin and contrition. While the
Puritans made an interpretation of such customs into good and severe activities, Hawthorne turns
their understandings around in The Scarlet Letter. The Puritan group sees Hester as a fallen lady,
Dimmesdale as a holy person, and would have seen the hidden Chillingworth as an exploited person
a spouse deceived. Rather, Hawthorne

There were two other BS Zelda games: Ancient Stone Tablets and Triforce of the Gods. Ancient
Stone Tablets was a sequel to A Link to the Past in which the player s BS avatar was drawn into
Hyrule while Triforce of the Gods was merely a port of A Link to the Past without even a name
change between the Japanese SNES and BS releases.
Stateside, American games didn t get the Satellaview and very few people owned a CD i to play
those three games, and whether you d want to is another story altogether, so effectively there
was a five year wait between Zelda releases in the States. The results would prove to be worth the

Summary Of The Inheritance Of Tools By Scott Russell Sanders
The Inheritance of Tools by Scott Russell Sanders is an essay written from the perspective of
Sanders in relation to his life struggles and the significance of the tools and trade that he has
inherited from his dead father. In this essay it is clear that Sanders is mourning the loss of his
father. This creates a mood that is very real and a tone in the essay of sadness but it never seems
depressing. Its sad but in a good way of remembering someone for their good qualities. The tone
tells us that Sanders is glad that his father taught him the things that he did. He is happy he has the
physical items left behind by his father that he uses to teach his children these same skills. There
are many examples of figurative language in this essay.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My favorite simile used is when Sanders described the hammer he inherited. The head is
scratched and pockmarked, like an old plowshare that has been working rocky fields. This simile
caught me off guard and didn t make sense to me at first. This simile gives the readers a bit of
detail into Sanders lifestyle and up bringing. I think it tells me that Sanders came from the city
rather than the country it might have been compared to cars or skyscrapers in the shade instead of

Attachment Theory
Attachment Theory
The Attachment theory is focused on the relationships and bonds between people, particularly long
term relationships including those between a parent and child and between romantic partners.
Attachment is an emotional bond to another person. Psychologist John Bowlby (1969, 1988) was
the first attachment theorist, describing attachment as a lasting psychological connectedness
between human beings. Bowlby believed that the earliest bonds formed by children with their
caregivers have a tremendous impact that continues throughout life. He suggested attachment also
serves to keep the infant close to the mother, thus improving the child s chances of survival. The
central theme of attachment theory is that primary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The infant produces innate social releaser behaviours such as crying and smiling that stimulate care
giving from adults. The determinant of attachment is not food but care and responsiveness. Bowlby
suggested that a child would initially form only one attachment and that the attachment figure acted
as a secure base for exploring the world. The attachment relationship acts as a prototype for all
future social relationships so disrupting it can have severe consequences. Although Bowlby did not
rule out the possibility of other attachment figures for a child, he did believe that there should be a
primary bond which was much more important than any other (usually the mother). Bowlby
believes that this attachment is different in kind (qualitatively different) from any subsequent
attachments. Bowlby argues that the relationship with the mother is somehow different altogether
from other relationships. Essentially, Bowlby suggested that the nature of monotropy (attachment
conceptualized as being a vital and close bond with just one attachment figure) meant that a failure
to initiate, or a breakdown of, the maternal attachment would lead to serious negative consequences,
possibly including affectionless psychopathy. He believes that the long term consequences of
maternal deprivation might include the following: delinquency, reduced intelligence, increased
aggression, depression

Mark Twain Writing Style Analysis
Mark Twain has a very unique writing style compared to the many other authors in the world.
Growing up, his father had died due to pneumonia, so he quit school to work as a printer s
apprentice with the Hannibal Journal to help support his family. Working at the Virginia City
newspaper he began using his new famous pen name, Mark Twain. From there, he published his
first book in 1869 known as, The Innocents Abroad. Mark Twain wrote many books that were
inspired by his childhood, traveling frequently, and his time spent in the library educating himself.
Twain has a style that no author will have as he wrote many of his books talking abouthis
childhood. This attracts a lot of attention from readers as he actually had not had a father in his life.
In the book, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, on page 134, it states, Yes, he s got a father, but
you can t ever find him these days. This means that although he does have a father, it does not
necessarily mean that he is in his life. Another childhood quote from the book, The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn, was stated on page 156. It states, I have never let my schooling interfere with my
education. Although Twain was required to attend school, he felt there was no substitute for
educating himself through living life to the fullest. The first hand accounts that Twain experienced
during his childhood helped mold his ideas and views of society. Another factor that influenced
Twain s writing style was traveling frequently.

The Three Roles Of Historical Globalization And The...
Historical Globalization
In this source the speaker is talking about civilizing people who are deemed uncivilized by this
speaker. They refer to it as their national mission. When they refer to national mission they are
referring to their ethnocentric ideals while coming into contact with another group of people.
This ethnocentrism is carried out in violence as they mention that there has been bloodshed.
They acknowledge that there has been loss of life from both the native population and their own
population, referring to their own as those who have been sent out to bring these countries into
some sense of discipline order . This is very similar to the european s eurocentrism at the start of
european imperialism. Their three tasks the europeans wished to accomplish were to spread
christianity to the natives of their land they had landed on, to earn gold by exploiting the
resources that were on the land, and to receive glory for their travels. These europeans would
claim to civilize the natives of these lands by forcing their way of life on them. They also used
assimilation to convert these people to the european ways, like the residential schools that the
Government of Canada opened to attempt to westernize the First Nations people living here. They
would call this task of civilizing the world The White Man s Burden . There was even a poem by
R. Kipling about this burden . This speaker has described this poem by Kipling very well as the

Botox Injection In Muscles
The main goal for Botox is to block the chemical signals that are sent to cause muscle contraction.
Botox is injected in small doses into targeted muscles where there are unwanted wrinkles. With this
chemical block the muscles can no longer tighten and skin will flattens. This will give the main
goal of having less wrinkled and smoother appearance that some people desire. Botox injection
works by weakening or paralyzing certain targeted muscles and nerves in the area affected. The
exact area that the Botox paralyzes is right at the begging of muscle contraction called
neuromuscular junction.
During regular muscle contraction there are a series of steps that go along with it. The first section
of a series of step for muscle contraction, and where Botox is targeting, is called the neuromuscular
junction. The signal will start from being collected in the dendrites down to the cell body, which
then sends the message down the hillock passing through the axon. With the neuromuscular
junction it will then get that nerve impulse and transmits a message down the axon to the terminal.
When that happens the terminal opens the calcium channel to allow the calcium to enter and to

acetylcholine, into the synaptic clef. With the botulinum, they would attach to each nerve end

be released. Then a series of proteins, vamp, syntaxin, and snap 25, are essential for the release of
acetylcholine. Certain botulinum toxin attacks these proteins

Tiny Smiling Daddy Mary Gaitskill
The short story Tiny, Smiling Daddy by Mary Gaitskill is presented as a third person narrative.
In this form of writing, the narrator is only observing the story and uses the main character s
perspective to project the events. With only the perspective of the main character, Stew, there is
a constraint with a limited knowledge point of view. The reader is only exposed to what Stew
knows, observes, and on occasion, feels: How could she have done this to him? She knew how he
dreaded exposure of any kind. She knew how ashamed he had been when, at sixteen, she
announced that she was lesbian. (36 39). Gaitskill provides background memories from Stew s
perspective as well, which makes it even more skewed and subjective. His daughter Kitty, is the

either false or valid due to nothing implicating either to be the case. Everything that the reader

Marginalation Of Women In Tennessee WilliamsA Streetcar...
Women are marginalised in A Streetcar Named Desire through their economic status, their mental
health and their place as a woman in the society of 1940s. They are held as possessions for
admiration and housework. Neither of the men in the play treat them as they should be treated, and
see them as nothing more than a housemaker and a child bearer. Also, it is made prominently clear
by Williams that no womanwould be able to survive without a man at that time. However, at some
occasions, Williams portrays that women can prove to be challenging if undermined.
Blanche Dubois is an epitome of this portrayal of women in the 1940s. She s portrayed as a
character who is running away from her past, whilst still dragging it with her, everything ... Show

They were meant to be flirtatious whist also being chaste. Blanche Dubois tries to maintain this
image. However, without any people witnessing her, she s antithesis to this role. Her solution to
her problems is via escaping to alcohol consumption, promiscuity and madness. This escape
portrays that women in the new emerging world can no longer keep up with the role of a
Southern Belle. It is the character of Stanley that forces her to fall out of this character and show
other people who she really is. Here, Blanche is shown suppressed by him, which leads to her
becoming powerless. She cannot overcome the power and dominance of Stanley. They have an
ongoing feud with each other during the play. And as we know, it is Stanley who prevails
through his rape of Blanche. This victory isn t just of Stanley over Blanche, it is a victory of
masculinity over femininity, oppression over suppression, New America over Old South. By
Stanley winning the feud, Williams displays that it s the man who holds all the cards. The rape
implies the ultimate powerlessness of Blanche and women in the play. By Stanley raping Blanche,
it is not just defeat for Blanche, however, it is a defeat for all women in the play. Through this
gesture, Williams has shown that in the 1940s, a woman cannot take home the prize in a man
dominated world.
In addition to this, Williams decides to include the role of a Southern Belle. However, why does he
do this? According to the

Summary Of Parmenide
In just 20 lines in section 11.8 of his poem, Parmenides gives at least three arguments for why
what is is ungenerated. I will present and explain each argument, the first two briefly and the last at
more length because I consider his third argument to be his most comprehensive. Last, I will
address his explanation of why what is is imperishable.
Argument 1.
Any given thing requires a reason to be generated, including what is (supplied)
It makes no sense to say that a reason suddenly existed for what is to be generated (11.8, 9 10)
Therefore what is was not generated (11.8, 11)
This argument takes place in the space of just a few lines, in which Parmenides poses a question
what need would have roused it, later or earlier, to grow, having begun from nothing? (11.8, 9
10). It here refers to what is. He assumes that everything has a reason to be generated some
specific need but he cannot see why this reason would suddenly appear. The phrase later or earlier
might point to how difficult it is to believe that at an arbitrary moment in time what is suddenly had
a reason to spring into existence. If no such need could have appeared, then what is could not have
been generated.
Parmenides applies this argument specifically to what is being generated from what is not, or
having begun from nothing (11.8, 10). And the argument certainly does seem to challenge the
idea of generation from nothing, but I have left it neutral as regards the source of what is in my
reconstruction here. I did this because I believe he can also apply Argument 1 to challenge the
idea of generation from what is, not only from what is not. It should apply to both because the
only way to say that what is is not generated is to show that it is generated from neither what is not,
nor what is. More on this in Argument 3.
Argument 2.
Someone or something must bring any given thing, including what is, into existence (supplied)
No one can make anything come into existence (11.8, 12)
Therefore what is cannot be generated (11.8, 13 14)
This is a difficult argument to suss out, especially since once again it takes place in only three
lines. But he says that the force of conviction cannot make anything come to be out of

In this movie, the famous Marvel comic book character, Peter Parker, adapts to his newfound super powers after being bitten by a genetically enhanced spider on a high school field trip to OSCORP. Throughout this movie, he battles the infamous villain the Green Goblin, otherwise known as Norman Osborn, in New York City. Peter Parker is an outsider at his high school and has a crush on the beautiful and popular Mary Jane Watson, who is also Peter s next door neighbor, and she dates the typical high school jock. Peter s only true friend is Harry Osborn, the son of Norman Osborn. Peter was raised by his aunt, May and uncle, Ben, after his parents died in a plane... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The color green has been associated with monsters such as Shrek, Frankenstein, The Wicked Witch of the West, the Hulk, and the Green Goblin. Although this color is associated with life, renewal, and nature, it has a double entendre and can be associated with greed, jealousy, and envy. For example, the common phrase that corresponds to jealousy is the green eyed monster , which is the term personified. These traits are exposed in Norman Osborn through his counterpart, the Green Goblin. Before the chaos, Norman Osborn was just the average successful white businessman. However, through the injection of the enhancing green serum, the immoral parts of himself emerged and turned him into this villain. The storyline of Osborn was used to show the unethical side of corporate businesses. He was used to show that everyone, including the upper class society, has underlying evil in them. The color of the Goblin s costume and serum were green to manifest his jealousy and greed. Through Norman Osborn, the directors shed light on the issues of corporate greed and ... • 3. Summary Of False Confessions In Popular Culture I chose an article from the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Criminology and Criminal Justice. The title of the article is False Confessions in Popular Culture. I chose this article because I ve always been fascinated with criminal interviews. I ve attended numerous interview and interrogation courses throughout my career. One of the best interview schools I ever attended was Reid interview and interrogation. One of the most debated subjects in all of these courses was false confessions. The reason I liked the Reid interview and interrogation course is because they offered different techniques on how to avoid false confessions. The article starts out discussing all the emotions associated with false confessions and how the news media and television shows have popularized false confessions. People undoubtedly have made false confessions for years. The article discusses how the media and tv shows have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Suspects make compliant false confessions due to avoid the stress of a harsh police interrogation. Interrogations are stressful and worrisome on both the guilty and the innocent. It s hard to believe that someone would admit to falsely committing a criminal act merely to avoid a harsh interview, but it does happen. Another reason that people make complaint false confessions is that they feel they will receive less severe punishment. Persuaded false confessions is when a suspect during a police interview begins to doubt or second guess themselves and falsely confesses to a criminal act, despite having no memory of it. Interrogators have to be careful not to use suggestive interview techniques because they can cause or can generate false memories of committing crimes (Shaw Porter, 2015). Over the course of my career, I ve had numerous people make false confessions. That s why interview schools are so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Conflict Resolution And Resolving Workplace Conflicts Conflict Resolution Conflicts are inevitable. It is necessary for the advanced practice nurse to have skills in approaching conflicts, negotiations, and resolutions (Hamric, Hanson, Tracy, Grady, 2014). According to Hamric et al. (2014), you do not have to feel pressured to instantly agree with other teammates; however, be respectful and listen intently and identify what you are able to offer to the team. Conflicts occur because of the different points of view. They can also happen because of various morals, values, and work ethic. In a multinational team there is bound to be conflicts. Those conflicts will transpire and require resolution. Problem solving with negotiations can lead to a quick resolution. Communication Communication is essential with resolving workplace conflicts. Communicate clearly and frequently. No employee wants to be uninformed or left out of the loop, especially regarding important decisions. Communicating with each other not only helps everyone to do a better job, it reduces stress and increases job performance (Lee, 2008). Unsatisfied Patient The patient drove 75 miles to have her biopsy. The physician was too busy and he scheduled the patient to see the nurse practitioner. The nurse practitioner apologized that she would not be able to perform the biopsy. The nurse practitioner could not perform the biopsy, as it was not within her scope of practice within that state. • 5. Disadvantages And Disadvantages Of Anodized Cookware Anodizing is an industrial process applied to metals to make them harder and more resistant to corrosion. Metals gradually degrade when in contact with moisture and when exposed to air, a process known as oxidation. They form an oxide layer which is softer than the metal and can easily be peeled away either mechanically, like when it rusts, or chemically, such as when it combines with other substances such as strong acids and bases. Anodization takes advantage of this process by treating the oxidized surface of the metal with electric current forming a hard surface that is resistant to manual or chemical corrosion. However, this explanation is too simplified and the actual chemical process is far more complex. Anodization technology has grown ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The melting point of aluminium (1221 degrees Fahrenheit) is much higher than that typically found in the kitchen, making these pots a logical choice for intensive cooking environments. Easy To Maintain Hard anodized kitchenware does not require intense cleaning and will usually be cleaned satisfactorily in soap and water. It is dishwasher safe on its own, although handles and the rivets that attach them may not withstand harsh dishwashing detergents depending on the material they are made of. This makes anodized cookware a favorite for regular cooks as well as professional chefs. Non Toxic The process of anodizing creates a tough, strong, non reactive layer which solves the problem of possible toxicity. Most of the anodized pots and pans are made of aluminium as the base. On its own, aluminium is a soft metal and reacts easily with food which means it will be ingested leading to health problems. Anodized cookware is a better option compared to plain aluminium. Disadvantages Of Using Hard Anodized Cookware Expensive Anodized cookware is a superior cooking material but it doesn t come cheap. With increased improvements in anodization technology, anodized cookware gets even more expensive by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Film Analysis Of Sleeping Beauty Sleeping Beauty The film Sleeping Beauty , produced by Charles Perrault, is set as a tale which involves a princess, a handsome prince, and an evil witch. The story is about, Princess Aurora, who was stabbed with the spindle as a baby and overcome the curse of an evil witch. She fell asleep for one hundred years, and could only be saved only by charming Prince Phillip. In the Sleeping Beauty, Charles Perrault used a number of Aristotle s elements such as the plot to structure storylines for his film. The film has an interesting plot and opened with a shot of turning pages of a storybook, showing a fantastical nature of the following tale. The story introduced King Stefan and his wife, who finally conceived their first child after years of wanting one. Supporters from all over Stephan s kingdom brought gifts and celebrated the birth. Stefan invited King Hubert, a king from his neighboring kingdom. Hubert s young son, Prince Phillip engaged to the baby princess Aurora, was part of the celebration. At the festivities, there were three godmotherly fairies from the forest that came to shower gifts on the baby princess. Flora delivered the gift of beauty, and Fauna gave Aurora the gift of song. But before spunky little Merryweather could have present her gift, the evil witch Maleficent appeared in a rush of wind. In bitter response because she was not invited to the celebration, the black witch cursed Aurora. She stated that the princess will prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel on her sixteenth birthday and die. . Merryweather couldn t reversed the curse, but she changed the effect of the prick to a deep sleep instead of death, out of which the princess could be awakened by the kiss of true love. King Stefan ordered a bonfire of all the spinning wheels in the kingdom, trying to avoid the witch s powerful curse. Sadly, he allowed the three fairies to take Aurora away from the kingdom in order to protect her, hide her, and raise her without magic. They also renamed Princess Aurora to Briar Rose. After Sixteen years passed in the kingdom, the most important day of Rose s sixteenth birthday arrived. A Better Future with Green Technology A Better Future with Green Technology INF 103: Computer Literacy Professor Robert Strain February 25, 2012 We live in the 21st century which has been called the century of the environment . Our nation s leaders and individual citizens are coming to an understanding that we can not assume any longer that problems such as pollution, climate changes and the dwindling amount of natural resources can be put off for a future generation to deal with (Green Technology, 2010). There are many uses and reasons for green technology. However, with the use of green technology we can have a healthier, cleaner and possibly longer future. • 8. An Ethical Mind That Respect For Others Into Something... According to The Harvard Business Review An ethical mind broadens respect for others into something more abstract. A person with an ethical mind asks herself, What kind of a person, worker, and citizen do I want to be? If all workers in my profession adopted the mind set I have, or if everyone did what I do, what would the world be like? (Fryer). I believe I definitely have an ethical mind, ever since I was child I always wondered what kind of overall person I would be and how that would affect others and my character. I always try to be as respectful and morally honest to everyone I come across and every situation in my life. I have actually wondered what if everyone not only in my profession, but in the world had the same mentality... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A deontologist focuses on doing what is right . Like stated above, a lot of my ethical background has come from the characteristics I was taught as a child such as honesty, fairness, and respect for others. Although I do not have much professional leadership experience, in my personal and what I believe my profession style would be is a coaching approach. A coaching approach is a high directive high supportive style. In this approach, the leader focuses communication on both achieving goals and meeting followers socioemotional needs (Northouse, 2016, p.94). These types of leaders are approachable, provide personal and professional support, and are friendly. This is the kind of leader I would want to be, efficient in work productivity, but also welcoming and supportive of my employees. This style of leadership builds trust and honesty, which makes employees more likely to present ethical dilemmas to you, because they know the issue will be dealt with in a fair and just manner. One leadership model that I value is Blake and Mouton s Managerial (Leadership) Grid. The Leadership (Managerial) Grid joins concern for productions and concern for people in a model that has two interesting axes (Northouse, 2016, p.75). The horizontal axis signifies the leader s concern for production, and the vertical axis signifies the leader s concern for people. Each side of the grid is drawn to a 9 point scale, in which a 1 stands for minimum concern and a 9 stands for maximum ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The On The Fourth Amendment The Fourth Amendment generally requires a warrant for the search and seizure of personal property, but no warrant is necessary when the owner voluntarily consents to the search or seizure. However, an owner may revoke his or her permission prior to the completion of the search, and the court admits the evidence found prior to the owner revoking consent. The United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit has repeatedly held that the government may search a photocopy of a document after the owner revokes consent. The Eleventh Circuit has not addressed the issue of whether searching a mirror image copy of a computer hard drive may occur after the owner revokes consent. In United States v. Sharp, the Northern District Court of Georgia determined that although the searching methods for paper documents and computers differ, a government official may search a mirror image computer copy made during the scope of the owner s consent. II.FACTUAL BACKGROUND The FBI investigated Gary Sharp and others in their connection with an online site named www.applanet.net. The investigators suspected the online site of providing users access to different copyrighted media. On August 21, 2012, Agents Kabrhel and Cieplike, of the FBI, traveled to Rhode Island to search Sharp s house. After arriving at the Rhode Island address, Sharp s parents revealed to the FBI Agents that Sharp currently lived in an apartment in Massachusetts. A woman, while still having a mind of her own and control over her own life, is under the authority of her husband. This frightens some women, who fear oppression at the hands of their husbands. While it is true that some men abuse the system that God set up for man and woman, not all men act as such. The Bible states monogamy is what God laid down as a foundational law of marriage, [...the Creator made them male and female...] For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh ? She has not changed a bit, and although she has children, she and her husband continue to go gallivanting about the world in search of adventure (Sayers, 14 15). Though Phoebe and her husband are not very successful parents, Phoebe s marriage is one of the success stories that begin to change Harriet s mindset about the concept of marriage from it being repulsive to it being something desirable. Marriage is works through compromise between the husband and wife; a woman who does not wish to be a housewife, but prefers to work can discuss her feelings with her husband in order to generate a resolution that leaves both the adults and the children happy with the result. Marriage is a union of two people, melding their old lives with their new one. Mark and Jane insist on maintaining entirely separate lives, which keeps their marriage from working (That Hideous Strength, 12). Lord and Lady Wimsey are able to live happily as a married couple because they communicate with one another (Talboys, 32). When a couple is united, they can combat any force that comes against them. His purpose is to not only establish his own credibility as the new President of the United States, but also to motivate his audience to change for the better and listen to his words. Kennedy uses a confident and energetic tone for the citizens of the U.S. and those who want to find out who the new American President is. He emphasizes his main ideas using anaphora, chiasmus, alliteration, and abstract words, and it invokes a desire to come together as a nation and make a difference in the world. Kennedy s speech is a monumental moment in history, and one of the most effectual rhetorical devices he uses is anaphora. In paragraph fifteen through eighteen he says, Let both sides explore. . . Let both sides, for the first time, formulate. . . Let both sides seek. . . Let both sides unite. . . This is an example of anaphora because the beginning phrase repeats and ends with a different verb. These phrases change the audience s sceptical outlook on his incredible speech, because he fulfills his purpose of unifying the nation. This use of anaphora is well placed in his speech. However, according to another, the 3/5 Compromise of 1787, a slave was worth 3/5 of a white man. Volcanoes have the effect of destroying everything in its path with its molten hot lava, but also allows some positive outcomes to occur such as precious jewels. Volcanoes are parts of the Earth s crust that have been forced in an upward position causing a mound like landform on the surface or in water. The balance of trade between the US and Brazil relies on the success of agricultural equipment as a whole. This paper will analyze the history of agricultural equipment and how machinery has impacted the farming industry and culture on a global scale, and continues to do so. History In order to gain an understanding of the agricultural equipment industry, we have to acknowledge the history in this area. In the 1920 s, most farmers practiced farming with horses pulling plows attached to them, which prepped the land for planting crops. Machines that picked crops had not been invented by the 1920 s, so farmers had to harvest their crops by hand. • 27. Julius Caesar Evil Shakespeare s tragedy Julius Caesar takes place in Rome at the time of Caesar s assassination. After Caesar returns home, he is hailed as a war hero, and the citizens of Rome plan to crown him as their ruler. Cassius, knowing Caesar will soon become a tyrant, convinces the honorable and well respected Brutus, a good friend of Caesar, to murderhim for the good of the city. Although many consider Julius Caesarthe hero of the play, Brutus is the true Shakespearean tragic hero. This is proven first by his inherently honorable character. Furthermore, Brutus s loyalty, which in most cases is considered a virtue, becomes a sin within the context of the story. Lastly, Brutus becomes blind to reality, believing the murder of Caesar is a good and necessary act. First and foremost, Brutus is proven to be a tragic hero by his good character. Brutus, unlike Caesar, is a humble man, known in the town to be loyal and put others before himself. For example, while Cassius attempts to rile Brutus up over Caesar s newfound fame, he argues the point that Brutus has an inherent right to the throne. Brutus responds to this by saying that [he] had rather be a villager / Than to repute himself a son of Rome (Shakespeare 1.2.180 181). While Caesar is so intoxicated by the attention and fame he receives that he agrees to rule without any critical thinking, Brutus, not blinded by greed or pride, is able to clearly see that taking on this power would not be wise. Very few would be able to resist this opportunity to be at the center of all this praise, but Brutus is both humble and wise enough to turn down what should be his role because he realizes the ability to be worshipped is not enough to make a leader. Although literary critic Harold Bloom argues that Brutus is ... morally rather vain ... My familywent to church every time the doors open, this results in why I attend church every chance I can. I love being able to worship the Lord, and learn more about him. Also, some religions believe differently than I do and that is totally okay. So, therefore, I have a lot of Irish in me, and Christianity would be my religion. However, as a child, I would consider myself under the lower middle classcategory because my mother was a singe parent of three children. She is an Elementary school teacher, which they do not get paid much when raising three children on her own. In today s time, I would say I am considered under the working class category because I make enough to exceed a little over ends meet. Being in the working class is extremely difficult because paying for bills can sometimes be difficult. So, therefore, as a child, I fell under the lower middle class, but as a young adult, I unfortunately fall under the working class. During this time, I would consider myself as a young adult who lives in the United States. There are many reasons why I chose this category; I am between the ages of 18 to 30, which usually considers an individual a young adult. Also, being a young adult is the start of having a little more freedom than being a child. For example, at 18 you can are allowed to buy tobacco products and join the Army, but when you become 21 of older you are allowed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Theme Of Social Class In Pride And Prejudice Most living creatures abide by a social structure of some sort. Between groups of animals there is the dominance of the Alpha, and the submission of the Omega. Among humans, there is a similar setup, but rather than size and strength, other factors often come into play. Wealth and status with others make for a bigger social ladder among human beings, and this can cause many weaknesses in the way people treat one another, and think. There are some who embrace these problems, and some who wish to change it. Sometimes, it is something as simple as a piece of writing that addresses these issues. In her novel Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen uses her characters to break common social classstructure, and reveal that it is actions that define a person, and not circumstance. In Pride and Prejudice, many of the characters reveal a depth that reaches beyond what is perceived by even other characters, already revealing the kinks in social class. The main male protagonist, Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy is one of the most controversial characters, and from the very beginning has two sides to him that show a person underneath the circumstantial shell. In the article Themes and Construction: Pride and Prejudice it is noted that What separates Elizabeth and Darcy from the silly minor characters [...] is their ability and willingness to learn and grow, to overcome their initial shortcomings (Themes). After all, the more voices are heard in a democracy, the more legitimacy elected leaders have. Be that as it may, I believe that society would actually be worse off if fifteen year olds were allowed to vote. Teenagers are too immature to vote, and often simply copy the preferences of their parents. First and foremost, fifteen, is simply put, not very old. Children at that age lack the emotional maturity needed to make intelligent decisions when voting. They often feel passionately about a topic one day only to have their interest fizzle out the next; clearly , that causes problems when the decisions made affect people throughout society. ... • 44. Faustian Bargain Analysis A Faustian Bargain is a complicated idea which translates in popular terms to selling one s soul to the devil. This definition consists of four layers. The first layer consists of two different aspects. The first aspect is doing something evil such as making a deal with the devil in order for personal gain. The second aspect is in pursuit of a lofty ideal. In pursuing the lofty ideal; the ideal is corrupted because of the methods to achieve it. The second layer is an unwillingness or inability to see things as they really are, to see evil as evil. The third layer is the felling of guilt after making a deal with the devil. The final layer is a third party attempting to convince the person from completing a Faustian Bargain. Within this layer one must seek whether they are a victim of external or internal influence. Several common elements of a Faustian Bargain emerge when we compare Button Button and Dr. Faustus. Those components include motivations of lofty ideals or self interest, the inability to see things as they really are, remorse, and the persuasion of an external or internal influence. Though Norma and Faustus both make a bargain with the devil, their motivations differ. Norma s motivations are based on self interest. • 46. The Formation Of The United Nations Indigeneity is a concept that rose internationally as awareness of cultural and minority suppressions grew in the post World War II sphere. The dissolution of European colonies left behind many unequal power structures and as nation states defined borders, many local cultural groups became marginalized and disadvantaged as a result of political hegemony by majority populations. The formation of the United Nations(U.N.) and the Universal Declaration of Human Rightswere created to link local and global communities, bypassing the actions of the nation state, in an attempt to avoid repetition of the atrocities committed in the early part of the century (Niezen 2003, p.19). Communities involved in indigenous movements were recognized to differ from other movements, such as civil rights movement, due to their wish to remain distinct from the dominant population and have their territorial rights recognized and livelihood respected. This desire to continue cultural and linguistic practices separate from the norm, and continued residence in an area has been a commonality for groups seeking indigenous status such as the Maasai and the Ogiek in East Africa. Indigeneity on a global scale has increasingly gained traction as political movements of indigenism around the world recognize their commonalities in pursuance of their rights. • 47. Analysis Of John Hawthorne s White Whale Nathaniel Hawthorne is a standout amongst the most productive symbolists in American writing, and an investigation of his images is important to comprehension his books. As a rule, an image is something used to remain for something else. In writing, an image is frequently a solid article used to speak to a thought more theoretical and more extensive in degree and significance regularly an ethical, religious, or philosophical idea or quality. Images can go from the clearest substitution of one thing for another, to manifestations as monstrous, complex, and puzzling as Melville s white whale in Moby Dick. A moral story in writing is a story where characters, articles, and occasions have a shrouded importance and are utilized to present some widespread lesson. Hawthorne has an immaculate climate for the images in The Scarlet Letteron the grounds that the Puritans saw the world through moral story. For them, basic examples, similar to the meteor streaking through the sky, got to be religious or good understandings for human occasions. Items, for example, the framework, were formal images for such ideas as sin and contrition. While the Puritans made an interpretation of such customs into good and severe activities, Hawthorne turns their understandings around in The Scarlet Letter. The Puritan group sees Hester as a fallen lady, Dimmesdale as a holy person, and would have seen the hidden Chillingworth as an exploited person a spouse deceived. Rather, Hawthorne ... The attachment relationship acts as a prototype for all future social relationships so disrupting it can have severe consequences. Although Bowlby did not rule out the possibility of other attachment figures for a child, he did believe that there should be a primary bond which was much more important than any other (usually the mother). Bowlby believes that this attachment is different in kind (qualitatively different) from any subsequent attachments. Bowlby argues that the relationship with the mother is somehow different altogether from other relationships. Essentially, Bowlby suggested that the nature of monotropy (attachment conceptualized as being a vital and close bond with just one attachment figure) meant that a failure to initiate, or a breakdown of, the maternal attachment would lead to serious negative consequences, possibly including affectionless psychopathy. He believes that the long term consequences of maternal deprivation might include the following: delinquency, reduced intelligence, increased aggression, depression ... Botox is injected in small doses into targeted muscles where there are unwanted wrinkles. With this chemical block the muscles can no longer tighten and skin will flattens. This will give the main goal of having less wrinkled and smoother appearance that some people desire. Botox injection works by weakening or paralyzing certain targeted muscles and nerves in the area affected. The exact area that the Botox paralyzes is right at the begging of muscle contraction called neuromuscular junction. During regular muscle contraction there are a series of steps that go along with it. The first section of a series of step for muscle contraction, and where Botox is targeting, is called the neuromuscular junction. The signal will start from being collected in the dendrites down to the cell body, which then sends the message down the hillock passing through the axon. The native fishingarea of this seal is in Atlantic eastern central, Mediterranean Sea, the Canary Islands, Madeira on the Atlantic shores of Northwest Africa, and black sea (WWF,2016). Their coat tends to darken with age and the older males are believed to be black (Aguilar, A. Lowry, L. 2008). Mediterranean monk seals are usually in warm coastal water. In the past, it tends to use sandy beaches for mating. However, due to the increasing human present over the years have changed the habitats preference to inaccessible coasts and remote caves with underwater entrances (Karamanlidis, A.A., S. Gaughran, A. • 58. Summary Of Parmenide In just 20 lines in section 11.8 of his poem, Parmenides gives at least three arguments for why what is is ungenerated. I will present and explain each argument, the first two briefly and the last at more length because I consider his third argument to be his most comprehensive. Last, I will address his explanation of why what is is imperishable. Argument 1. Any given thing requires a reason to be generated, including what is (supplied) It makes no sense to say that a reason suddenly existed for what is to be generated (11.8, 9 10) Therefore what is was not generated (11.8, 11) This argument takes place in the space of just a few lines, in which Parmenides poses a question what need would have roused it, later or earlier, to grow, having begun from nothing? (11.8, 9 10). It here refers to what is. He assumes that everything has a reason to be generated some specific need but he cannot see why this reason would suddenly appear. The phrase later or earlier might point to how difficult it is to believe that at an arbitrary moment in time what is suddenly had a reason to spring into existence. If no such need could have appeared, then what is could not have been generated. Parmenides applies this argument specifically to what is being generated from what is not, or having begun from nothing (11.8, 10). And the argument certainly does seem to challenge the idea of generation from nothing, but I have left it neutral as regards the source of what is in my reconstruction here. I did this because I believe he can also apply Argument 1 to challenge the idea of generation from what is, not only from what is not. It should apply to both because the only way to say that what is is not generated is to show that it is generated from neither what is not, nor what is. More on this in Argument 3. Argument 2. Someone or something must bring any given thing, including what is, into existence (supplied) No one can make anything come into existence (11.8, 12) Therefore what is cannot be generated (11.8, 13 14) This is a difficult argument to suss out, especially since once again it takes place in only three lines. But he says that the force of conviction cannot make anything come to be out of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
