Four-port two-channel module with encrypƟon and FEC for
data center and opƟcal network access applicaƟons.
The ODC2 is a mulƟ-rate SONET/SDH, GbE, and Fibre Channel transponder
that provides access to DWDM networks and extends the reach of standard
fiber connecƟons. It uses SFP+ opƟcs on two 80-channel-capable DWDM
line ports. Client side SFP+ opƟcs include MulƟmode (850nm), Singlemode
(1310nm), CWDM, and DWDM.
AES-256 encrypƟon is provided by master session keys for each direcƟon
which are autonomously and securely negoƟated using a Diffie-Hellman key
exchange. The encrypƟon circuit scrambles
the data before transmission out the link port
and decrypts it aŌer receipt at the far end.
The master session key seeds cryptographic
grade determinisƟc pseudo-random number
generator (PRNG) based on NIST SP800-90A
which is iterated idenƟcally at each end of
the link, to provide a sequence of 256-bit AES
link keys. The lifeƟme of a link key is
operator-selectable from 10 minutes through
to 1 day, limiƟng the amount of data
encrypted under a single key. Key changes
are performed at mulƟ-frame boundaries,
making them seamless to the opƟcal client
and having no affect on data flow. To
further improve the level of security, Diffie-
Hellman key exchanges are scrambled to prevent tampering from unknown
sources.
Forward Error CorrecƟon (FEC) and 3R (reshaping, regeneraƟon, reƟming)
features also make the ODC2 module a cost– and space-effecƟve choice for
transport-layer regeneraƟon applicaƟons. With the scalability of the
GigaMux plaƞorm’s opƟcal access service architecture, service providers can
expand the capacity of their network by providing a mulƟ-service mix of
applicaƟons over the fiber infrastructure. The ODC2 modules deliver each of
the services, which can then be mulƟplexed together through the GigaMux’s
other WDM modules.
By uƟlizing SFP+ technology, state of the art encrypƟon algorithms, and
Sorrento Networks’ reliable design standards, the ODC module provides
security and high density for high wavelength network architectures with
simple, cost effecƟve client handoffs. The ODC2 module can be managed
and upgraded via the command line interface (direct terminal or telnet
connecƟon), SNMP, or via the GigaView 3200 EMS.
