BACKGROUND
BioMonde is a Multinational wound care company specializing in the
manufacture and distribution of larval debridement therapy (also known
as maggot therapy) products for use in chronic and hard to heal wounds.
BioMonde are looking for viable alternative uses for maggots, pupae,
and flies such as fish feed supplements.
The maggot excretions/secretions have been found to have
antibacterial, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and wound healing
properties. There may be potential for a beneficial change in the gut
microbiome of fish after consumption of these products which could
improve fish health in general.
ACTIVITIES
To compare the gut microbiome and fish behaviour (cognition, shoaling,
decision making) of fish fed with: a) commercial diet; b) maggot
supplement; c) artemia supplement; 4) maggot and artemia
supplement.
