The challenge of altmetrics is to change our concept of what an institutional repository is, from a simple container of research outputs to a smart system that harvests and catalogs a much broader range of output and impact data elements.

Finding Insights in Article-Level Metrics for Research Evaluation
The use of Article-Level Metrics (ALMs) as an indicator of an article’s quality and impact has dramatically increased in the last year. Publishers continue to add ALMs to research articles and new organizations have been created to aggregate ALMs across multiple fields including usage, citations, and social media. Using ALMs, researchers, librarians, funders, and the general public are able to gain insight into research articles that are the most widely read and used. PLOS launched ALM Reports (http://almreports.plos.org/) which allow users to view ALMs for any set of PLOS articles and visualize the data results. This allows users to quickly explore and compare ALMs for a large number of articles by searching for papers published by researchers at their institutions, for papers funded by specific funding agencies, or by searching on generic terms within an article. The application can be used to access up-to-date information on research papers, to view data on the downstream impact of the research, and to measure evidence of wider engagement with the research. These insights provide a powerful way to evaluate impact of research across many articles in a single view.

Can we use altmetric at institutional level?
This paper aims at exploring the coverage of the Altmetric.com database and its potential use in order to show universities’ research profiles in relationship with other databases. Specifically, our objectives are the following:
1. Analyse the coverage of Altmetric.com at the institutional level and verify its validity as a data source for obtaining alternative metrics derived from the research activity of universities in comparison with those from the Web of Science. For this, we will work with a small sample of four Spanish universities.
2. Analyse coverage differences when obtainin bibliometric profiles from Altmetric.com and Web of Science. In some studies a higher coverage of the Social Sciences and Humanities has been reported, suggesting the potential of altmetric indicators in these areas (Costas, Zahedi, & Wouters, 2015b).

Can we use altmetric at institutional level?
This paper aims at exploring the coverage of the Altmetric.com database and its potential use in order to show universities’ research profiles in relationship with other databases. Specifically, our objectives are the following:
1. Analyse the coverage of Altmetric.com at the institutional level and verify its validity as a data source for obtaining alternative metrics derived from the research activity of universities in comparison with those from the Web of Science. For this, we will work with a small sample of four Spanish universities.
2. Analyse coverage differences when obtainin bibliometric profiles from Altmetric.com and Web of Science. In some studies a higher coverage of the Social Sciences and Humanities has been reported, suggesting the potential of altmetric indicators in these areas (Costas, Zahedi, & Wouters, 2015b).

Djatoka is an open source JPEG 2000 image server that allows for fast extraction of regions of interest and quality layers from JPEG 2000 files. It uses a tile caching system to improve performance. URIs can be used to access specific regions, rotations, levels and formats of an image. While open source, it relies on the proprietary Kakadu library for JPEG 2000 encoding and decoding. Installation and setup are straightforward but it requires Tomcat 5.5 or higher to run.

Karen Coyle Keynote - R&D: Can Resource Description become Rigorous Data?
This document summarizes Karen Coyle's presentation on Resource Description and Access (RDA), the new cataloging standard intended to replace AACR2. The Ümlaut is an open source OpenURL middleware layer intended to improve the link resolving chain by analyzing incoming citations and intelligently querying resources to better enable access to them. The Ümlaut takes multiple approaches for locating items such as conference proceedings, preprints, postprints and gray literature utilizing search engines, Amazon, social citation managers and more. By utilizing the Worldcat registry, it is also personalizable and geospatially aware of available collections allowing access to all resources available to the user beyond the subscriptions of the Ümlaut's host institution. Building Mountains Out of Molehills
Faceted navigation, which is an increasingly common feature of library OPACS, was initially developed to browse hierarchical data. MARC data however, has relatively little hierarchy, and user-generated tags have even less. The flatness of this data, makes the navigation of search result-sets cumbersome and often ineffective. BiblioCommons has been tracking academic research and industry best-practices in this realm, and experimenting with different methods of adding structure to these datasets. Digital Banking in the Cloud: How Citizens Bank Unlocked Their Mainframe
Inconsistent user experience and siloed data, high costs, and changing customer expectations – Citizens Bank was experiencing these challenges while it was attempting to deliver a superior digital banking experience for its clients. Its core banking applications run on the mainframe and Citizens was using legacy utilities to get the critical mainframe data to feed customer-facing channels, like call centers, web, and mobile. Ultimately, this led to higher operating costs (MIPS), delayed response times, and longer time to market.
Ever-changing customer expectations demand more modern digital experiences, and the bank needed to find a solution that could provide real-time data to its customer channels with low latency and operating costs. Join this session to learn how Citizens is leveraging Precisely to replicate mainframe data to its customer channels and deliver on their “modern digital bank” experiences.
Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity server
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).

It is with great pleasure that we extend to you an invitation to the 5th Power Grid Model Meet-up, scheduled for 6th June 2024. This event will adopt a hybrid format, allowing participants to join us either through an online Mircosoft Teams session or in person at TU/e located at Den Dolech 2, Eindhoven, Netherlands. The meet-up will be hosted by Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), a research university specializing in engineering science & technology.
Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.
