As a knowledge graph database, Grakn is ideal for storing metadata and data lineage information. Many applications, such as data discovery, data governance, and data marketplaces, depend upon metadata for management. User experiences can be enhanced by leveraging a hyper-scalable graph database like Grakn, rather than traditional graph databases. Additionally, inference-driven use cases predominantly depended on RDF Triple Stores, requiring additional plug-ins to derive the inferences. With Grakn, this can now be achieved natively.

Supply chain optimization is an unusual balancing act that requires finesse, skill and timely data. Every supply chain’s the key questions to be answered are:
What to Buy? -- what are the factors in determining your optimal product mix and set of suppliers.
How much to Buy? -- what are the most and least popular items at any given time interval
When to Buy? -- long lags in delivery timing may tax limit your flexibility and influence your inventory management practices.
We will illustrate an API-based solution that utilizes a Graph database platform to add demonstrable value to Supply Planning.

Google “citizen data scientist” today and you will see about 1M results. That number is data. It may be interesting, but it is meaningless without context. Sometimes it appears that we are drowning in data from systems and sensors but starving for insights. We definitely produce more of the former than the latter, which has created demand for more powerful tools to simplify the process and lower the skills requirement for analysis. As vendors build systems to meet this demand, we hear about the coming ”democratization” of big data as more people at varying levels within organizations are empowered to find meaning and improve their own performance with data-driven insights. This is a good thing, but it does require caution.
To paraphrase Col Jessup in A Few Good Men: You want answers? You can’t handle the data.

Knowledge extraction and incorporation is currently considered to be beneficial for efficient Big Data analytics. Knowledge can take part in workflow design, constraint definition, parameter selection and configuration, human interactive and decision-making strategies. Here we present BIGOWL, an ontology to support knowledge management in Big Data analytics. BIGOWL is designed to cover a wide vocabulary of terms concerning Big Data analytics workflows, including their components and how they are connected, from data sources to the analytics visualization. It also takes into consideration aspects such as parameters, restrictions and formats. This ontology defines not only the taxonomic relationships between the different concepts, but also instances representing specific individuals to guide the users in the design of Big Data analytics workflows. For testing purposes, two case studies are developed, which consists in: first, real-world streaming processing with Spark of traffic Open Data, for route optimization in urban environment of New York city; and second, data mining classification of an academic dataset on local/cloud platforms. The analytics workflows resulting from the BIGOWL semantic model are validated and successfully evaluated.

Analytical Innovation: How to Build the Next Generation Data PlatformVMware Tanzu
There was a time when the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) was the only way to provide a 360-degree analytical view of the business. In recent years many organizations have deployed disparate analytics alternatives to the EDW, including: cloud data warehouses, machine learning frameworks, graph databases, geospatial tools, and other technologies. Often these new deployments have resulted in the creation of analytical silos that are too complex to integrate, seriously limiting global insights and innovation.

Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix
of marketing resources. Formulating such competitive strategies fundamentally
involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions
(i.e., industry structure in the language of economics).

White Paper
These transformations can result in loss of information and introduce bias. To solve this
problem, we require machine learning methods to consume knowledge in a data model
more suited to represent this heterogeneous knowledge. We argue that knowledge
graphs are that data model.
Three examples for the benefits of using knowledge graphs:
▸ they allow for true end-to-end-learning,
▸ they simplify the integration of heterogeneous data sources and data harmonization,
▸ they provide a natural way to seamlessly integrate different forms of background
knowledge.
