Data Stewardship and Governance: how to reach global adoption and systematic ...Pieter De Leenheer
Data quality and regulations are perpetual drivers for Data Governance solutions that systematically monitor the execution of data policy. And yet, there is along road ahead to achieve Data Governance: the term is still relatively unknown, there is no political forum in the form of a Data Governance Council, and software support is moderate. Time for change ! Data Governance requires automation on the one hand and a wide adoption of business to ICT on the other.
In this lecture, we set out the basic principles to successful develop Data Governance. By way of example, we show how to translate this in Collibra's Data Governance Center. We pay particular attention to identifying and modelling data policies and rules, and to empowering them on the basis of data stewardship and configurable workflows across silos and functions in the organization. The example is drawn from the Flanders Research Information Space, where data quality is critical to drive and boost pan-European Research policy.
This white paper provides an overview of the patented technologies and associated processes that combine to deliver a unique and highly scalable solution for unstructured text/data analytics
Looking beyond plain text for document representation in the enterpriseArjen de Vries
In many real life scenarios, searching for information is not the user's end goal. In this presentation I look into the specific example of corporate strategy and business development in a university setting.
In today's academic institutions, strategic questions are those that relate to dependency on funding instruments, the public private partnerships that exist (and those that should be extended!), and the match between topic areas addressed by the research staff and those claimed important by policy makers. The professional search tasks encountered to answer questions in this domain are usually addressed by business intelligence (BI) tools, and not by search engines. However, professionals are known to be busy people inspired by their own research interests, and not particularly fond of keeping the
customer relationship management (CRM) or knowledge management systems up to date for the organisation's strategic interest. This then results in incomplete and inaccurate data.
Instead of requiring research staff (or their administrative support) to provide this management information, I will illustrate by example how the desired information usually exists already in the documents inherent to the academic work process. Information retrieval could thus play an important role in the computer systems that support the business analytics involved, and could significantly improve the coverage of entities of interest - i.e., to reduce the effort involved in achieving good recall in business analytics. The ranking functionality over the enterprise's (textual) content should however not be an isolated component. Our example setting integrates the information derived from research proposals, research publications and the financial systems, providing an excellent motivation for a more unified approach to structured and unstructured data.

Ontology for Knowledge and Data Strategies.pptxMike Bennett
Ontology suffers from an adoption problem. If we are to describe the benefits of ontologies and knowledge graphs, we need to demonstrate how these can contribute to the business. That means addressing the knowledge and data management strategies of the organization.
A knowledge management strategy addresses a range of concerns, including terminology, business semantics, data provenance and quality, information availability and a rigorous treatment of context. Ontology is just one tool among many in the overall strategy for managing knowledge assets and their use.
In this seminar we will unpack the components of an organizational knowledge strategy and show in terms that both business and IT can understand, how different types of ontology fit in to the firm’s wider data management and knowledge strategies, alongside a range of other tools and techniques.
Attendees do not need any prior knowledge of ontology, knowledge graphs or semantic technology, but should ideally have an appreciation of data and knowledge management issues.
Mike Bennett's presentation on Ontology for Knowledge and Data Strategies, as presented at University of Westminster in December 2022.
This covers how ontologies may be used as part of a broader business strategy for knowledge and data management, including how different styles of ontology are needed or different parts of such a strategy.
On a few hours notice, due to another presenter's "volcano-cancelled" flight, I was asked to fill an empty slot at the Norwegian GoOpen 2010 conference. On the background of the freshly proposed data.norge.no site, I decided to present a high level motivation for open data and linked open data in context of government, briefly compare and contrast its predecessors, data.gov and data.gov.uk, and suggest a possible middle ground between "anything goes" and "one format only" (in Norwegian).
Using cognitive computing to better analyze human communicationDigital Reasoning
Dr. Marten den Haring, senior vice president of products at Digital Reasoning, explores how cognitive computing can be used to better analyze human communication (e.g. email, chat, social media, voice, etc.) in order to reveal suspicious activity. This presentation was part of a series at the recent Alpha Innovation Required (AIR) Summit, which was sponsored by Franklin Templeton Investments.
Dull, Difficult, and Essential: Managing Public RecordsPaul W. Taylor
Keynote to the 2015 Texas eRecords Conference: The unique attribute of public records cannot be overstated: Government is the holder of the singular, authoritative record to which all others refer. As the universe of public records grows in volume, complexity, and variety, policy makers and practitioners are in an unenviable position of managing it all. They are at the nexus of open and big data at a moment when analytics and other technologies hold promise for unlocking both public and private value. The addition of new forms of records - social media, sensors, and both dash and body cams - challenges old practices and assumptions while bringing new urgency to long-standing public policy debates around privacy and security.

About the Webinar
In the world of authority control, it is a bit of an alphabet soup of acronyms. ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID), which is a system to uniquely identify scientific and other academic authors; ISNI (International Standard Name Identifier), which identifies the public identities of contributors to media content such as books, television programs, and newspaper articles; and VIAF (Virtual International Authority File) a system that combines multiple name authority files into a single authority service, hosted by OCLC, all have their place when discussing identifiers for authority control.
Identity issues and disambiguating authors, researchers, other content creators, and their institutional affiliations are crucial as we move into a world of linked data. In this webinar, presenters will cover the implications and differences between ORCID, ISNI, and VIAF, what is the proper use of each, and some of the benefits that come with using authority files and making that information available on the Web.

Unveiling the Secrets How Does Generative AI Work.pdfSam H
At its core, generative artificial intelligence relies on the concept of generative models, which serve as engines that churn out entirely new data resembling their training data. It is like a sculptor who has studied so many forms found in nature and then uses this knowledge to create sculptures from his imagination that have never been seen before anywhere else. If taken to cyberspace, gans work almost the same way.

• Pragmatic approach to information architecture, information
management and governance:
• Set scope of content corpuses and Use-cases (creation, distribution, use,
archiving etc)
• Define and qualify available standards, vocabularies, metadata and models to
be included.
• Match technical platform limitations and options to design a sound content
model with content type and all.
• User-scenarios, interaction models where taggning, smart-list objects and
more will be uncovered and used.
• Assign and define information- and data governance.
