How to build high performance 5G networks with vRAN and O-RANQualcomm Research
5G networks are poised to deliver an unprecedented amount of data from a richer set of use cases than we have ever seen. This makes efficient networking in terms of scalability, cost, and power critical for the sustainable growth of 5G. Cloud technologies such as virtualization, containerization and orchestration are now powering a surge of innovation in virtualized radio access network (vRAN) infrastructure with modular hardware and software components, and standardized interfaces. While commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware platforms provide the compute capacity for running vRAN software, hardware accelerators will also play a major role in offloading real-time and complex signal processing functions. Together, COTS platforms and hardware accelerators provide the foundation for building the intelligent 5G network and facilitate innovative new use cases with the intelligent wireless edge.

6WINDGate™ - Enabling Cloud RAN Virtualization6WIND
Traditional mobile networks are based on stand-alone Base Transceiver Stations covering a radio area. BTS overlap to provide a wide coverage to mobile users and are connected to the mobile core network through a backhaul network. Cloud Radio Access Network is a new architecture for mobile access networks that rely on simple radio front-ends connected to a pool of remote network resources. By leveraging cloud infrastructures, CAPEX and OPEX is lowered substantially.

Optimizing the HetNet: Key decision points for mobile network operators webinarWi-Fi 360
Mobile network operators (MNOs) are now in the process of determining their network strategies for the next five years, and in many cases these involve a move towards heterogeneous networks (HetNets).
These networks will involve large numbers of cells, based on different technologies and spectrum bands. HetNets need to be fully optimized to deliver the performance and return on investment that MNOs need. And this will require many new tools including self-optimizing networks (SON).
Hear Caroline Gabriel, Research Director at Maravedis Rethink Wireless Infrastructure Analysts share key findings of its Optimizing the HetNet white paper, which was based on interviews with leading MNOs regarding their RAN optimization strategies. In particular, she will address a critical choice – whether to opt for a third party, multivendor solution or leverage incumbent vendor-supplied tools. Accompanying Ms. Gabriel is Neil Coleman, Director of Marketing at Amdocs. He delved into the key role that Amdocs RAN solutions will play in this complex HetNet environment.
RAN dimensioning: Lessons learned by TelstraWi-Fi 360
When investing CAPEX in capacity related Radio Access Network infrastructure, Telstra tries to balance a number of competing goals: maximize the customer experience; for the largest number of customers; with the most effective use of invested capital; through the selective expansion of network hardware.
Because modern wireless networks rely on soft capacity to efficiently provide as much capacity as possible, proper RAN dimensioning must be able to accurately take the effects of soft capacity into account. Current methodology for KPI thresholds, however, cannot provide an accurate understanding of customer experience.
During this exclusive webinar featuring prominent speakers from Telstra, Ascom and Maravedis-Rethink, we will discuss a more effective approach to understanding the relationship of soft capacity and customer experience.
Participants in the webinar will learn how this better approach to RAN dimensioning can lead to improved customer experience and more efficient use of CAPEX.
In addition, Research Director Caroline Gabriel will discuss the broader issues of optimizing and dimensioning the access network, with relation to recent research conducted with a broad base of major mobile operators worldwide.
Maravedis-Rethink:White Paper Sensification SCWSWi-Fi 360
This short paper looks at the requirement for densification; the scale of capacity that operators will need by 2018; and the critical enablers, such as self-optimizing network (SON) technology. The data points referenced come from surveys of over 75 mobile operators by Maravedis-Rethink’s RAN Research Service. Fuller findings will be published in June 2014 in a report entitled ‘Towards the Hyper-Dense Network: the shape of the HetNet 2013-2019’.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Join us to learn more about this new, human-in-the-loop capability, brought to you by Integration Service connectors.
