Cloud engineering is the application of systematic and disciplined approaches to the ideation, development, operation and maintenance of cloud computing. It focuses on infrastructure as a service, platform as a service and software as a service. Cloud engineering draws from areas like system engineering, software engineering and security engineering. It aims to facilitate cloud adoption and standardization. Key benefits include reduced costs, improved quality, scalability and agility. The term was coined in 2007 and the first IEEE conference on cloud engineering was held in 2013.
