This document summarizes the findings from a survey distributed to the target audience for a slasher film trailer. Key findings include: - The majority of the audience is female, between 18-34 years old, and frequently watches films. - Common scary elements like death and the dark are preferred to include in the trailer. - The audience's favorite part of horror films is the thrill of being scared.

1. These are the findings from a survey I distributed to my
target audience, researching into their likes & dislikes
regarding slasher films, in preparation for constructing my
own horror trailer.

2. This is to see who resides within my target audience.
Unlike other tasks, this isn’t intended so I can provide
content geared towards a certain gender, but instead
intended to get an idea of the demographic I am
distributing my product to.
This ratio reflects the actual ratio of men to women in
the UK, which is 0.99 of a man to 1 woman.
The higher female population amongst my target
audience rejects the male gaze theory, as clearly the
camera / audience isn’t masculine, as the majority of
viewers are female.

3. This age chart shows that the majority
of the target audience are within the age
brackets in which they can legally watch
18 rated horror films.
This shows I have a mature audience,
the majority of which are not in
compulsory education anymore.
Therefore I can use conventions from
traditional horror films in my trailer,
because the audience are old enough to
recognise what a good Slasher film looks
like.

4. This is to get an idea of how avid my
audience is regarding film.
Fortunately, the majority often go to
the cinema, therefore I now know that
there will be an initial reception for
my trailer, that there will be people
excited enough about film to warrant
a basic fan base.

5. This is similar to the
last question, in which I
now know that the vast
majority of my audience
are film fans, therefore
there will be enough
people to form an initial
fan base upon the
trailer’s release.
This data also shows
me that the majority of
my target audience are
up to date with
technology and use the
internet, therefore they
can interact with my
trailer online, engaging
in exchange.

6. This lets me know which
location is scariest to my
audience, therefore that is the
location that I will most likely
use in my film, as that is what
the audience will prefer the
most.
Unfortunately, the results were
split 25% each, therefore there
isn’t an out and out winner,
however the house seemed to
be slightly scarier than the
rest.

7. For this question, I aimed to find out
what my audience claims is the scariest
weapon out of the most common 5.
Unfortunately, there was another split-
tie, and no individual weapon is
apparently the scariest. Therefore I can
use any weapon, as I know it will be
equally preferred.

8. This question determines what
instils fear most into the
audience, and therefore what I
can include in the trailer to
scare them the most. Clearly,
death is the most popular for
what is scariest, at 15 votes,
therefore that is something I am
going to include, especially as it
reinforces the conventional
slasher themes. The dark is
another popular choice,
therefore I will also include
that, possibly filming at night
outside, or filming in a dark
enclosed environment.

9. My audience claims that the thrill of being scared
is their favourite part of any horror film. This is
common, as fear is a conventional trope that
carries any horror / slasher film. The other
choices were not as popular, such as the
characters, the villain or the story.
Therefore, I will include jump scares and scary
moments into my trailer in order to keep my
audience happy and entertained.
