Phonetics is the study of speech sounds, including how they are produced, their physical properties, and how they are perceived. It has three main branches: articulatory phonetics examines sound production, acoustic phonetics studies the physical properties of sounds, and auditory phonetics looks at sound perception. English has around 25 consonant sounds that vary in voicing, place of articulation in the mouth, and manner of production. It also has 12 vowel sounds that differ in tongue height, tongue position in the mouth, and mouth shape. There are also 8 English diphthongs, which are combinations of two vowel sounds in one syllable.

Signal processing in current days is under studying. One of these studies focuses on speech processing. Speech signal have many important features. One of them is Voice Onset Time (VOT). This feature only appears in stop sounds. The human auditory system can utilize the VOT to differentiate between voiced and unvoiced stops like /p/ and /b/ in the English language. By VOT feature we can classify and detect languages and dialects. The main reason behind choosing this subject is that the researches in analyzing Arabic language in this field are not enough and automatic detection of VOT value in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) is a new idea.
In this paper, we will focus on designing an algorithm that will be used to detect the VOT value in MSA language automatically depending on the power signal. We apply this algorithm only on the voiced stop sounds /b/, /d/ and /d?/, and compare that VOT values automatically generated by the algorithm with the manual values calculated by reading the spectrogram. We created the corpus, and used CV-CV-CV format for each word, the target stop consonant is in the middle of word. The algorithm resulted in a high accuracy, and the error rate was 0.80%, 26.62% and 11.71% for the three stop voiced sounds /d/, /d? / and /b/ respectively . The standard deviation was low in /d/ sound because it is easy to pronounce, and high in /d?/ sound because it is uniqueand difficult to pronounce.

Vowel characterization is an important process of studying the acoustic characteristics or behaviors of speech within different contexts. This current study focuses on the modulators characteristics of three Arabic vowels, we proposed a new approach to characterize the three Arabic vowels /a/, /i/ and /u/. The proposed method is based on the energy contained in the speech modulators. The coherent subband demodulation method related to the spectral center of gravity (COG) was used to calculate the energy of the speech modulators. The obtained results showed that the modulators energy help characterize the Arabic vowels /a/, /i/ and /u/ with an interesting recognition rate ranging from 86% to 100%.
The current study was conducted for children with CP who are Hindi speakers, to analyze voice onset time (VOT) patterns associated with stop consonants. The purpose was to gain more detailed insights into how the coordination and timing needed for these articulations may be affected by the neurodevelopmental disorder ultimately opening up avenues for improved treatment solutions. Total 20 children in the age group of 6 - 8 years were taken for the study which was divided into two groups: 10 children diagnosed with spastic CP and 10 typical children speaking Hindi. Measuring VOT through voice analysis helped us gauge the interval lapsing between releasing a stop closure and voicing onset. The outcomes exhibited considerable variation in VOT values when comparing groups of children with cerebral palsy (CP) against typical children speaking Hindi. Specifically, CP children showed longer VOT durations indicating delayed voicing onset compared to controls. These findings point out that children who have cerebral palsy exhibit different timing and coordination patterns upon pronouncing stop consonants. It is essential to grasp the VOT traits in children with cerebral palsy. This will aid in creating suitable intervention techniques that enhance their speech comprehensibility and communication skills.

Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling.
