Pest Analysis Tesco
TESCO
1. Introduction
Tesco is one of the world s largest food retailer which deals in retailing services and other
associated activities right now operating in UK, third largest retailer in the world in terms of
profits and second largest retailer in the world in terms of revenue. (Data monitor, 2013) It has
over 2400 stores operating worldwide in 13 different countries. Known as retailing giant TescoPLC
employs over 530000 employees who serve tens of millions of customers every week to serve
them regarding their basic needs (Tesco, 2014) Even after being a retailing giant Tesco has also not
escaped the wrath of the economic crisis prevailing in UK and has seen few of its toughest years.

It helps us know broad overview of the atmosphere in which company operates. (Kuvilahiti,2012)
a. Political factors: As Tesco is operating in over 13 countries so theworkings of the company are
very much affected by government policies, rules and regulations prevailing in one particular
country. Often in many countries Tesco is faced with the legislations to provide jobs to all sets of
population and Tesco specifically employe young students as they are young, provide high quality
work and less salary and are loyal to their work. Current economic slowdown has resulted in
closing of few Tesco stores in European Union.
b. Economic Factors: This is one of the major sections where Tesco is most ill affected at current
juncture of its growth as crisis has led Tesco to follow retrenchment policy which can hamper
satisfaction among employees and they don t feel motivated. Also the economic slump has had a
direct impact on demands of consumers who want to curtail back on their expenditures which is
affecting Tesco very badly. Economic factors badly influence demand, prices, costs and profits for
a firm. Tesco has no control over these economic factors but the slowdown has resulted in Tesco
being exposed to market concentration

Sanity And Insanity In Shakespeare s King Lear
Determining the sanity and insanity of an individual can be extremely hard, especially when you
do not know much about the person. In Shakespeare s King Lear there are many character who
seem like they are going mad, and an example of such a character is King Lear. King Lear
succumbs to anger, rash decisions, and grief driving him to insanity, thus leading to the destruction
of the kingdom. King Learis a character who displays a great deal of anger throughout the course
of the play, he often allows his anger to take over him. A lot of things that are said and during the
course of the play are due to Lears anger which is a leading factor for his insanity. Lear loses his
temper during a lovetest when his daughter does not give the answer that he was looking for, he
disowns her calling Cordelia his, sometime daughter, (1.1.119) and gives her share of the land to
her sisters. This in turn leads to his insanity because in his blind rage he does not acknowledge
the sincerity behind Cordelia s veiled words; unlike her sisters she does not try to flatter her
father in order to receive more land, whereas her sisters have their secrets agendas and do not
truly love Lear. In addition to this, King Lear is also enraged when the Earl of Kent who is a
loyal follower of Lear, goes against the banishment of Cordelia and speaks up in favour of the
youngest daughter. Lear is livid with Kent going against him and banishes Kent, as well reminding
him that, if on the tenth day

Class Struggle
Introduction Class struggle is the active expression of a theoretical class conflict looked at from
any kind of socialist perspective. Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, leading ideologists of
communism, wrote The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggle .
Marx s notion of class has nothing to do with social class in the sociological sense of upper,
middle and lower classes (which are often defined in terms of quantitative income or wealth).
Instead, in an age of capitalism, Marx describes an economic class. Membership in a class is
defined by one s relationship to the means of production, i.e., one s position in the social structure
that characterizes capitalism. Marx talks mainly about two classes that... Show more content on

the floods! This dimension of Bangladesh s reality is much more presentable and in tune with
what the viewer wants to see. In addition, floods or monsoons are a lot easier to explain away as
inevitable than are riots or strikes. For the bourgeoisie, what would be the point in shaking the
dominant image of a country made of too much water and too many poor people ? However, it
is not possible to completely black out the existence of class struggle and some information gets
through. The following is a resume of news clips from various newspapers in December 1994:
On December 4th 1994 thousands of poorly paid and poorly equipped police officers, auxiliary
militiamen (Ansars) mutinied, taking over two barracks, 22 officers hostage and managing to
take control of the headquarters and training centre in the capital, Dacca. After 4 days, by which
time the mutiny had spread to other provinces, repression began in earnest. The army s special
forces attacked the occupies barracks, using very significant measures: artillery guns, rockets,
helicopters, gas, armored cars... with an official toll of 4 deaths and 50 wounded. The first
ideological image is therefore shattered: there are more than just disarmed, ragged, soaking wet
beggars in Bangladesh! A different technique is now needed to explain events and, this time, the
media choose to fall back on the traditional explanation of struggle between official and opposition
parties. Indeed, the mutiny in December 1994 in

Christ Figure In A Separate Peace And Cool Hand Luke
A Christ Figure is an archetype in literature that echoes the presence and actions of Jesus Christ.
These characters are often a martyr who sacrifices himself for the betterment of those around
him. John Knowles A Separate Peace, Ken Kesey s One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, and the
film Cool Hand Luke are all prime example of works that include a Christ Figure. These characters
display characteristics of a Christ Figure, obvious and subtle, including performing miracles, death
and resurrection, images of the Last Supper, and an ultimate sacrifice. A Christ Figure will often
perform actions that are considered miracles by those around him. The film Cool Hand Luke
focuses on the titular character, Luke, a prisoner who refuses to conform to life in prison. Luke
performs miracles on more than one occasion throughout the film. One instance is a bet Luke

Finny and Gene form the Super Suicide Society of the Summer Session. At each meeting, they
have to jump of the tree into the river. During one jump, Gene and Finny decide to jump together.
Gene s legs shake and he jounces the limb, causing Finny to fall onto the land below him and
break his leg. This symbolizes the death of Jesus Christ as Finny has to leave Devon and his
peaceful presence is missing. His resurrection is when he returns to school, restoring his
presence. In Cool Hand Luke, Luke also experiences death and resurrection. After Luke s multiple
escape attempts, the guards force Luke to exert himself by digging holes all day, eventually
breaking him. Now, the guards have subdued Luke into doing all of their work and have full
control over him. While working, Luke is resurrected when he steals the truck with Dragline and
makes a final attempt at escaping. Both of these are examples of the death and resurrection of a

Scolopocryptops Sexspinosus Essay
Does this species of centipede, Scolopocryptops sexspinous, extract water primarily from prey
items or do they get their water intake from a source of groundwater? We hypothesis that
Scolopocryptops sexspinosus absorbs much of its water content through direct contact with a
source of ground or rain water, therefore there will be similarities between the delta values of
O18 and H2 (Deuterium) of the centipede and the nearby body of water (creek). Methods On
October 31, a Bark Centipede (Scolopocryptops sexspinosus), two prey items (Oniscus asellus
and Lumbricus terrestris) along with three samples of water from nearby Hess Creek were
collected, all were collected within a 100m2 area and within. Each organisms liquid was extracted.

The Objectives Of Senior Management
This is a type of risk that the CRO must assess within the goals of business continuity. The objective
of senior management is to be continuing operations as normal and business interruption risks
affect the ability of the organization to continue operations normally. The CRO should identify the
activities or accidents that would possibly interrupt business, determine the resources available
internally to deal with the loss, and ensure that any resources identified would be available to assist
with this unlikely event (Elliot, 2012). Securing this type of insurance seeks to transfer the riskof
business interruption by providing some mechanism for compensation to the bank and to its
employees should a loss occur.
Enterprise Risk Management Using Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) techniques to assess risks
for the risk management program involves managing risks together as an overall risk program. It
differs from traditional risk management that looks at risks individually and manages each risk
separately. By integrating the traditional risks that are insurable risks into an ERM program, aids
the organization in implementing a strategic risk management program that encompasses the
hazard risks along with financial risks, operational risks, and strategic risks into a comprehensive
risk management program for the bank.
Financial Risks Financial risks are important for the CRO to address through the risk management
program. According to Elliott (2012), financial risks

The Effects Of Wound Healing On Diabetic Patients
eous wound healing and why some processes may be altered in diabetic patients
The process by which tissue repair takes place is termed wound healing and is comprised of a
continuous sequence of inflammation and repair, in which epithelial, endothelial, inflammatory
cells, platelets and fibroblasts briefly come together outside their normal domains, interact to restore
a semblance of their usual discipline and having done so resume their normal function . ( The
Cellular Biology of Wound Healing2016)
Wound healing has 3 distinct stages, an inflammatory response, a proliferation phase and a
maturation phase, however wound healing is not a linear process and a patient can move back and
forth throughout the stages.
After the occurrence of a wound the inflammatory process immediately begins and can last up to
3 days ( Wound Healing 2016), the initial injury causes the small vessels around the wound site to
be disturbed resulting in bleeding, the body s first response is a haemodynamic one in that it
restricts these vessels in order to prevent blood loss. There then comes a rapid release of preformed
inflammatory mediators from the cells surrounding the injury, the first thing this causes is the
aggregation of platelets, these platelets adhere to extracellular surface structures which are exposed,
such as collagen and basement membranes, this in turn causes serotonin from platelet stores to be
stimulated. (Kirk, Phillips and Murray 2001)

Conflicts over Religion
How did religious conflicts influence colonization?
Another chief source of conflict was religion. The Protestant Reformation challenged the authority
of the Roman Catholic Church, and Catholics and Protestants struggled for religious, economic, and
political power. Alliances changed when new rulers assumed power; for instance, a country that
was officially Protestant one day could become Catholic the next. Likewise, countries that were
allies one day could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Catholics and Protestants used any means possible to conquer and convert each other, including
laws, taxes, threats, torture, imprisonment, and war. Jews in Europe were typically tolerated but
forced to live in ghettos, isolated from Christian communities. Anyone who dissented from the
established religion had a good reason to leave. To members of a persecuted group who wanted to
live in a community of like minded people, the New World must have been very tempting.
Roanoke: First English Colony in North America
The story of Roanoke, the first English colony in North America, shows some of the ways in which
political, economic, and religious competition affected colonization. In 1585, Queen Elizabeth I of
England agreed to support the Dutch against the Spanish. She gave a charter of land to an English
noble, Sir Walter Raleigh, to establish a colony. This colony would supply the English warships that
would fight the Spanish.
However, the plan failed when colonists discovered the warships could not navigate the Roanoke
harbor s shallow waters. The expedition left more than 100 settlers to establish the colony. England
left these colonists alone for three years while it fought against Spain. When a supply ship finally
arrived, the Roanoke Colony was deserted. To this day, nobody knows what happened to the

Camtasia Essay
I first hear of Camtasia from the written interaction with other classmates. I did some research on
the Internet and found great evaluations. Later I found that other departments in my company use
this software sporadically. This program is basically an Authoring/multimedia software platform,
meaning that, you do not have to do any coding to create programs.
Camtasia uses images that represent an image on itself or sound. You can drag and drop these
images on a time line. The time line has different levels where you can drag and drop the images,
once place on time line you can do visual effects and add animations.
Creating and editing video with sound is very intuitively. The program can import video from
formats like .camproj, .camrec, and .avi, with no limitations on the length of videos. Screen
recordings can be use in a PC, Mac or vice versa. Enhances to the video recording presentations are

Significance of the Nazi Soviet Non Aggression Pact
The Nazi Soviet Non Aggression Pact was extremely significant in regards to the outbreak of war
in Europe in 1939, however there were several other factors that also led to the outbreak of WWII.
These factors include; the allied policy of appeasement, the failure the League of Nations and
Collective Security and the aggressive nature of Nazi and Italian foreign policy.
The signing of the 1939 Nazi Soviet Non Aggression Pact was extremely significant in regards to
the outbreak of war in Europe. Both Germany and Russia possessed considerable motives for
signing the pact.

As it was built on the unrealistic premise that nations would overlook their own interests in order to
look after other members, the League of Nations and Collective Security was destined to fail.
Nations were required to turn over their right to make decisions and foreign policies over to an
international body so as to establish internationalism. The requirements of the league are
described by historian E.H Carr as being, overly optimistic, hollow and without substance. The
invasion of Abyssinia by Mussolini was the embodiment of the failure of Collective Security.
Upon hearing of Mussolini s intent to invade the smaller country, Britain and France decided to
refrain from intervening as they hoped to make an ally of Italy and did not want Mussolini to
break the Stresa Front and side with Hitler. Of course Italy did side with Hitler and through their
idleness, set a precedent of inaction that encouraged Hitler and the axis powers to act. Similar
examples of the failure of the League can also be seen in its response to Italy and Germany s
involvement in the Spanish Civil War and Japan s invasion of Manchuria.
Much like the policy of appeasement, the failure of the League of Nations gave the axis powers the
idea that little to no action would be taken

The Forbidden City is a great masterpiece in the world, representing Chinese people s wisdom and

Forbidden City was the Chinese imperial palace where include 980 buildings located in the center

Examine the impact of the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997 on the region s development
Since World war II, development has been the most important term used to describe economic,
social and political changes in what have come to be known as Third world countries (Zhang, 2003).
The Asian financial crisis of 1997 had a major impact on the regions development as it was the end
of the East Asian economic miracle, a time that showed staggering economic growth throughout the
Asia Pacific. However, despite evidence that the economic development has slowed down within
the region, it can be argued that the 1997 crisis encouraged intra regional co operation and

Garran (1998) argues that most countries affected failed to set up acceptable regulations and
supervision that would have allowed capital markets to develop without risky imbalances. He states
that countries over borrowed, over invested and over reached themselves .
Although it can be argued that the entire region felt the effects of the crisis, some countries suffered
more than others. According to Barro (2001) the countries mainly affected include Indonesia, South
Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand, this is because between July 1997 to early 1998
these countries experienced currency depreciations of more than 50%. In these countries,
offshore nominal interest rates reached at least 25% at some point between June 1997 and
January 1998. Real per capita GDP fell by 16% in Indonesia, 12% in Thailand, 10% in Malaysia,
and 8% in South Korea, and 3% in the Philippines. He argues that China, Hong Kong, Japan,
Singapore and Taiwan were much less affected by the crisis as they experienced depreciations of
less than 25%, and nominal interest rates remained below 20%.
The crisis resulted in the set back of over 30 years of strong economic and social development in
the region, the loss of jobs caused riots, destruction and even death from poverty in the affected
countries. Henderson (2011)

The Problem Of Chronic Pain
Chronic pain has burdened its victims with major difficulties that often span beyond the physical
discomfort to psychological, social, and economic well being (1). The prevalence of non cancerous
chronic pain in Europeans ranges from 8% 60% across many studies involving different methods
and populations. Nearly 1 in 4 adults in Europe report experiencing chronic painwhich affects their
daily lives (1) and 30% of Americans report chronic pain (2). In particular, 1% of all individuals

Although anxiety and depression are common among chronic pain patients seeking medical care,
they are often hard to detect (4).
In order to ensure the most comprehensive patient care and satisfaction, it is critical to investigate
physician and patient interactions during a medical consultation (4 6). Recent research suggests
outcomes are related to communication (7,8). Physicians need to be aware not to discourage
patients from sharing sensitive information while still conducting the medical aspects of the
consultation. Typically, the medical aspects dominate the consultation so it is not surprising that
patients wishing to talk about particular worries or concerns give somewhat indirect or underlying
cues or clues which are hard to detect (4). Some studies show that patient satisfaction is not affected
by physician reaction to cues and concerns (9), while others have found the opposite that indeed
responsiveness is related to patient satisfaction (10). If we can better understand patient
communication whether explicit or implied, we will have a greater ability to understand how
physicians can best communicate in consultation to guide the patient to disclose concerns (11).
Although it is understood that a physician s ability to communicate has a great effect on the patient,
the training in this area is still deficient (5,12). Medical students are more likely to give

Art Allows Me to Leave Reality Essay
Good art allows me to flee the realms of reality. In my mind s limitless consciousness, I can

Languages form an essential part of every human experience. To express oneself is one of the
simplest joys we can experience. English and Music are two such languages in my life, that
indirectly relate to, have a profound impact on mine. My interests in Music, just as in Literature,
extend to a wide array of genres, whether it be Bob Dylan or Tchaikovsky. After relentless
perseverance at the age of 16, My father bought me a black dreadnought. I spent hours upon
hours practicing by watching instructional videos and my favorite guitar players play. In no time
I was playing shows, from winning school competitions to performing at live music theatre
events. I had soon established a name for myself as a singer songwriter by being a supporting act
for many bands. I soon began recording my rendition of songs on my laptop, eventually writing
my own music and now working on my album. This has proved to be a huge learning curve, in
enabling me to understand the dynamics of a composition, Thereby continually improving myself.
In my spare time, I have been teaching English to Arab students. It has been a remarkably
challenging experience. I have learned far more teaching than I had as a student, in trying to
articulate my thoughts in words they could understand. This has been a humbling and rewarding
experience. I realize there remains a vast ocean of knowledge I am still unaware of, which
empowers me to thrive and work hard in an undergraduate environment.

I would consider my pacing and pauses to be my biggest weaknesses in any public speaking, but
especially during this monologue. I could have paused a lot more since the character of Angelique
was not meant to be rushing through her rant. While I wasn t happy with my pacing and pauses I
think my strengths were eye contact and volume. I took a lot of time to memorize my monologue
and tried not to look at my paper too much and focus more on looking at my audience. My volume
was another strength that I had during my monologue. I naturally am a loud person so it was
something that I didn t really have to think about, but I did notice that during other people s
monologues it was hard to hear and I m glad that I was loud enough to not only get my point
across, but for everyone to hear me. From my monologue and the ones that I watched, the
biggest thing I learned was that pacing is very important even if you are nervous and want to be
done. A lot of people including myself rushed through their performances and ended up stumbling
over their words or running out of breath and it made the monologues less effective than they
should have been. I also noticed that a lot of people either stood completely still or were swaying.

Analyzing Erikson s Psychosocial Theory
Erikson s Psychosocial Theory is the one that would stick with me the most. Lot of it makes
sense because with the different stages he s mentioned such as trust vs mistrust, identity vs role
confusion, intimacy versus isolations to integrity vs despair. The trust vs mistrust sticks because
of some of the stories and clips that was in class. With trust vs mistrust the idea is if a child has
bad things happen in certain situations the child will begin to mistrust. While for trust if positive
reinforcement is established the child begins to develop self control and learns to redirect there
feelings or emotions. In one video about an abused girl she was redirecting her anger toward her
baby brother which came from the mistrust of her abuser.

Challenges Parents Face Having Children with Congenital Heart Disease
With medical and technological advancements, infant and child mortality rates have decreased over
the years, but congenital heart disease is still a leading contributor to these mortality rates. Children
with congenital heart disease undergo more severe and rapid medical treatment putting their parents
through even harder times. These issues are worth exploring because congenital heart disease is an
ongoing illness that has more and more relevant research being done on it. In the United States of
America, an increasing number of children are being born and diagnosed with congenital heart
disease (CHD) due to medical advancements. This illness not only impacts the infant s life long
term, but it also affects the parent s well being (Tak, McCubbin, 2002). It has... Show more content

Red Power Movement Research Paper
Question 10: Red Power s Impact on American Indian Identity The Red Power movement and
especially events like Alcatraz, as well as the grassroots movement helped American Indians to
restore their pride and culture and to finally redefine their identity as Indians. Before the period of
activism (1960s/1970s), many Natives were not able to openly identify themselves as Indians and
to run free in their Indianness , because of the stereotypical stigmatization as poor, savages,
uncivilized, etc. The movement s activism is significant for the recreation of the Indian identity
and had an enormous impact on American Indian societies, especially in the urban areas. Major
Red Power events like Alcatraz are symbols for the renewed Indian pride and identity, because they
gave American Indians a feeling of community and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, American Indian organizations and activist groups like AIM and NIYC emphasized
the rights of all tribes and all Indians, combined to legitimize and empower supratribal Indianness
as an identity, a source of pride, and a basis for activism (Nagel The Politics of American Indian
Ethnicity 137), which encouraged especially youths to return to their Native roots. In this
connection, the grassroots movement in the cities, which of course counts to Red Power, plays a
major role. It established various services, for example Health Care Centers, Community Schools
and study programs, for American Indians. In his article, Nicolas G. Rosenthal describes the work
of the Indian Health Care Centers as crucial to advocate for self determination and embrace Indian
identity (142, 153), which shows how important activism was in urban areas. Additional, the

Essay on The Bible Among the Myths Summary
SUMMARY OF JOHN N. OSWALT S BOOK THE BIBLE AMONG THE MYTHS
David Strickland Old Testament Introduction OBST 590 June 1, 2013
Introduction The author, John N. Oswalt, was first introduced to the subject of this book in his
seminary studies in the 1960s. Oswalt introduces his book with a narrative of the similarities and
differences that exist between the Old Testamentand the literature of the Ancient Near East. Prior
to the 1960s scholars believed that the Old Testament was unique and did not resemble the literature
of the surrounding cultures, but now there has been a shift in thought. Many scholars believe today
that the Old Testament is virtually identical to Ancient Near East writings. This issue of differences
and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Oswalt starts his definition process by discussing the debate of whether the Bible has a distinctive
view of reality. Until fifty years ago most scholars believed that biblical literature did not share the
characteristics of myth. Today there has been a radical shift in opinions, such as the possibility that
mythical thought and mythical literature are at the very heart of Israel s religion.1 Oswalt believes
that this change is based on assumptions and not on new discoveries. The problem of definition
encompasses the first obstacle when defining a myth. The validity of a definition must be
evaluated. The first problem is that a definition must be broad enough to include all the items that
share common characteristics but narrow enough to exclude items that only have a few common
characteristics. The second problem has to do with the nature of the definition and whether it
provides a description or an evaluation. Oswalt groups definitions of myth according to their type
as either historical philosophical or phenomenological. He then subdivides historical philosophical
into etymological, sociological and literary. Etymological definitions of myth emphasize the falsity
of what is being described and are frequently too broad. In sociological definitions of myth, truth is
seen as relative. Perception of something being true makes it true. Oswalt labels his final
subdivision of historical philosophical

American Beauty By Sam Mendes
American Beauty (1999) is directed by Sam Mendes (also the director of Skyfall and Spectre)
and stars Kevin Spacey which examines the ordinary occurances of a family who live a desirable
life but are unhappy and stagnant. Kevin Spacey plays the role of Lester Burnham, a suburban
father and who is tired of his boring job and family. Within the film are many themes, the most
important of these being lust and beauty. The film applies many visual effects to demonstrate the
overall desired tone, and helps to implicitly present a false sense of the american dream . American
Beautydemonstrates a clear presentation of longing within relationships or lifestyles, and uses
filming techniques to imply these hidden themes.
The main theme demonstrated throughout the film is seeming, and how it relates to true nature.
Each character within the film shows an awareness of the struggles seeming brings, and eventually
confronts it. Carolyn is the prime example, as constantly within the film she struggles to progress
within her career and attempts to be happy in doing so. This is shown in the scene where she
attempts to sell a house, fails to do so, and physically abuses herself as punishment. Colonel Fitts
(Ricky s father) also struggles with appearance, as he constantly tells Ricky homosexuality is
disgusting, and nearing the end of the film we find Fitts is homosexual himself. This challenges his
interpretation of masculinity and what he has believed his entire life. A huge element

Climate Change And Life Expectancy. The Current Rate Of
Climate Change and Life Expectancy
The current rate of at which the world is being affected by climate change; one may be convinced
to believe that the earth will not be able to be inhabited by any other generation. The perfect
clarification of these claims has been the reduction in the life span and the increase in the number of
diseases that are actually attacking human beings all because of climatic change. The impact of
climate change has been felt and this has had a negative impact on the lives of animals and human
beings (Baker, Judy World Bank., 3). There has been a huge debate on whether climatic change is
responsible for the decline in the life expectancy among human beings as well as animals. This

countries hence the increase in the rate of complacency. The point also explains why developing
country usually relies on foreign aid as means of sustaining their own economies.
Initially animals used to have very long time span in that goats or even cattle could stay for
years and yet they are still very productive. This has certainly changed as result of climatic
changes. The animals used to live longer as a result of cold temperatures that used to slow down
their rates of metabolism hence the longer life span. Temperatures today are very high as a result
of climatic changes. The increased temperatures have actually led to increase in the metabolic
rate of the animals hence the reduction in the life span. This explains why animals today cannot
even live for more than five years and then remain productive all along as animals could live for
a whole decade but still remain very productive. It is believed that the presence of favorable
climatic conditions usually increase the life span of animals or even plants by more than 20
percent. This is very reason the people back in the 1700s all the way to the late 1800s used to live
long and they were not really exposed to the kind of diseases that people are currently exposed to
(Letcher, T. M, 49).

Romanticism and The post impressionism era are two major periods on the time line of art history.
Different forms of art including paintings, music, and architecture showed tremendous growth, and

Analysis of the Relevancy of Freudian Psychology When one unintentionally says something that

Freudian Slip. When one is being uptight and hostile, they are said to be acting anal. If one

Within this work, Freud had written the beginnings of his extensive theories on the human psyche
and what goes on in the subconscious mind (McLeod, Saul, Sigmund Freud s Theories ). Freud s
most credible work is that of the unconscious mind. He proposed that there are three levels of the
mind s consciousness: the Conscious, Preconscious/Subconscious, and the
Unconscious (McLeod, Saul, Sigmund Freud s Theories ). The Conscious is the waking mind in
which real time thought processes that one is aware of are occurring (McLeod, Saul, Sigmund
Freud s Theories ). The Preconscious or Subconscious is the waking mind from which memories
can be called; it functions as storage and one is not necessarily aware of its processes (McLeod,
Saul, Sigmund Freud s Theories ). The Unconscious is the deepest level of the mind that one is
unaware of; it supposedly harbors strong desires and suppressed experiences that unknowingly
influence the waking mind (McLeod, Saul, Sigmund Freud s Theories ). All three of these come
together to form the person to which they belong, and both influence and are influenced by the
Ego, Superego, and ID (McLeod, Saul, Sigmund Freud s Theories ). The Ego, Superego, and ID
are three pieces of the mind that determine one s moral capacity, thoughts, and actions (McLeod,

Inequality, poverty and social protection: inequality in Kenya has decreased a lot in recent years
there are many types of inequality in Kenya such as income inequality, life expectancy inequality,
unemployment inequality between men and woman and education inequality. For example in
Kenya education inequality is good nearly every child in the central province has an education and
attends school however only one out of every 3 children in the north eastern province attend
primary school which is still low. Another inequality is the unemployment inequality between men
and woman there is 274,000 unemployed women compared to 73,000 men. , F. V. (2012) Heifer

Although Kenya s soil and land is the most favourable for long term work in east Africa but rural
poverty in Kenya is also strongly linked to environmental concerns so crops are damaged due to
poor water management and climate change is one of the big major factor of Kenya as I
mentioned in my first part of my country case study the climate changes rapidly in Kenya it has
rainy season and dry seasons which both damage crops and land. Another thing that causes poverty

Also, as of the measurement date, there is lack of recent and relevant transactions. Thus, the fair
value measurement of this CDO should be classified as Level 3. By analyzing the market changes,
FFC determined that the CDO s market was not active and there has been a significant decrease in
the volume and level of activity. FFC used an income approach valuation technique which is present
value technique to make measurement. Because this approach can maximize the use of relevant
observable inputs and minimizes the use of unobservable inputs to reflect the fair value more
representatively.
Instrument 2 Mortgage Backed Security The fair value measurement of the Mortgage Backed
Security investment shall be categorized within Level 2 of the fair value hierarchy. According
to ASC 820 10 35 52, Level 2 inputs include the following: a. Quoted prices for similar assets or
liabilities in active markets . These inputs included quoted prices in active markets for similar
MBSs with insignificant adjustments for differences between the MBS held by FFC and similar
securities. In Q4 of 2012, the prices for transactions didn t reduce the relevant to the fair value

Tiered Reflection
The reflection this week asks us how we would differentiate instruction for writing a research
paper in our relative area of interest. Specifically speaking, the reflection asks for two specific
differentiated learning tasks. One of the activities must involve a tired activity, while the other can
utilize any of the strategies suggested in the lesson. For this particular reflection, I will focus my
attention on an early middle schoollevel activityto differentiate on writing a research paper. To begin
the lesson, I would complete a diagnostic assessment to see the background knowledge of
research writing. For the tiered activity, I would split students into three groups the first having
limited to no knowledge of research writing, the second having some knowledge of the topic, and
the third having a solid understanding of the research writing process. Each student will receive a
graphic organizer that they will use to assist with the note taking, outlining, and thesis of their
paper making this the constant among all groups. To differentiate, group 1 or the group with the
most limited knowledge will randomly pick from a pre selected list of animals to research. This
group will receive pre printed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

structure their work. Lastly, students will not be paired with other students that have the same

One of the biggest factors that have to be evaluated is the cost of the service plan. Service plans
seem to change now almost daily. And with the major carriers all jockeying for market share,
there is always a value to wait as long as possible to see what the carriers are going to do next. As
competition for the smartphone data plan gets bigger, the plans become more affordable. Cost
for the smartphone itself is also a factor that drives supply and demand. Every year the major
players come out with new and updated versions. Every time a new phone debuts the price of
the previous phones version to go down. If you are an early adopter of technology then you are
looking for the best purchase options and options for upgrades. There are a lot of changes that
are being made with carriers that used to subsidize the cost of a new phone; now buying one
every year has become less desirable due to the high cost. With the amount of competition today in
the smartphone market, an increase in prices for the device is almost a sure death sentence.
Smartphones are very inelastic in pricing because there is less and less differentiation in substitute
products and most buyers can easily transition from one brand to the next. Many consumers are

Comparison Of Racism In American History X And Romper Stero
American History X, directed by Tony Kaye, and Romper Stomper, directed by Geoffrey Wright,
share similar themes, of racism/ extremism, violence and the influence of idols/ gangs on the
impressionable. In both films, the outsiders (Mexicans and Asian immigrants) are terrorised and
beaten by Neo Nazi Skinheadgangs in America (Los Angeles) and Australia (Melbourne). Both
texts are also set in a similar timeframe, this being the 80 s/ 90 s, reflecting the social issues of the
era.
Racism and extremism are depicted clearly in both American History X and Romper Stomper,
accentuated through violent and hateful dialogue. Flashbacks are clearly used to establish the
creation and reason for these racist thoughts and extremist behaviour in American History X.
These flashbacks are shown in black and white, symbolising the state of mind the antagonist
(Derek) was in. He is presented as narrow minded, at the height of his ideology and can only see
things in right or wrong, black or white. Once Derek realises and loathes his wrongs, he sees in
colour, a clever use of film techniques used by Kaye. The violence portrayed in both films is also
similar in the way that the Neo Nazi gangs of LA and Melbourne terrorise minorities and believe
that Mexican (American History X) and Vietnamese (Romper Stomper) immigrants are swarming
into their western suburbs, buying up local businesses and crowding out the established residents.

The Use of Deception in William Shakespeare s Twelfth...
The Use of Deception in William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night Deception is a key theme in
William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night. The characters must use deception to obtain good things,
escape bad situations, or to play cruel hilarious ticks on other people. One example of deception
is when Viola clothes herself in men s clothing in order to obtain a job under the Duke of Illyria,
Orsino. During another scene Sir Andrew, Fabian, Maria, and Sir Toby Belch trick Malvolio into
making a fool of himself. A third example of deception is when Feste the jester disguises himself

Sir Toby Belch play on Malvolio. Maria, Olivia s lady in waiting , writes a note in her mistress s

Examination Of Biliverdin Ix Beta Reductase
Examination of Biliverdin IX Beta Reductase
October 10 2014
Joel Langford It is evident that there are many significant biological syntheses that take place in
this world. This includes the synthesis of bilirubin (BR) from biliverdin (BV) with biliverdin IX
beta reductase (BVR). BV is one of three products produced from heme being catalyzed by heme
oxygenase. Now, BVR, as seen in Figure 1, is known as an enzyme that catalyzes the reduction of
BV s double bond to a single bond on the second and third pyrrole ring. In other words, BVR
reduces BV, which is hydrophilic, using NADPH and yields the product bilirubin, which is
hydrophobic (1). The schematic for this mechanism is shown below...
Schematic 1: It is important to note ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This paper will examine the three dimensional structure of BVR and its specific interactions.
Among the 204 amino acid residues in BVR, its secondary structure contains alpha helices, beta
sheets, and turns, as seen in Figure 2 (4). The arrangement of these helices and sheets represents
that of a Rossmann Fold (5). The protein structure of a Rossmann Fold contains six parallel beta
strands that are linked to two pairs of alpha helices (6). In BVR, there are ten beta sheets, six of
which lie parallel forming the Rossmann Fold, and there are seven alpha helices which seem to
be wrapping around the Rossmann Fold, which explains the beta alpha beta alpha beta topological
order. For example, this includes the central beta sheet and the two groups of alpha helices. While
it may seem rather easy to comprehend, it seems important to make note of the simple interactions
or facts relating to the coenzyme nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate, NADPH, and the
substrate mesobiliverdin, MBV, which is a tetrapyrrole compound. To start, this reaction is a
reduction reaction in which the MBV is the compound being reduced. The NADPH, carrying
hydrogens, is the reducing agent, also meaning it is oxidized by the MBV (the NADPH simplified
interactions with the protein and amino acids can be noted in Figure 3. Now, on a side note,
looking closely at Figure 4 and then comparing the MBV (which is mesobiliverdin IV alpha) to

death. To understand the consequences of losing the sense of touch we must first understand its
benefits. Touch is an important element of how we understand and relate to our world. Touch can
convey personal feeling towards one another or it can convey danger such as heat or sharp surfaces.
The inability to feel sensations on the ski impacts many different situations and can potentially have
dangerous repercussions. Our ability to survive is not generally dependent on our sense of smell or
our sense of taste. However, if one does not possess the sense of touch, it can directly imperil our
very existence.
The consequences for a loss of the ability to process pain would be numerous and catastrophic.
Pain is your body s way of telling you something is wrong. Pain s job is to draw your attention to
sensations such as a burn or a bone break so that you can address the cause of the issue. For
instance, if you sprained your ankle, without pain receptors your body would have no way of
alarming you of the danger. This situation could require you to tear something resulting in a major
injury instead of a minor sprain which would take a couple weeks to heal. People born without
pain receptors are much more prone to serious accidents resulting in injury or death. Without pain
you may not receive an early warning of infections that could

A Career as a Pharmacist Essay
The flow of the medical community is dependent on every person employed there. The harmony it
creates does not only come from the doctors or nurses, but the janitors, surgeons, receptionists, and
even the pharmacists. Each job is necessary in order for the hospitals to function properly; for
instance, the doctors diagnose the patient with their illness, prescribe them medication to cure it,
and send them to the pharmacist, who then gives them their medication and sends them home.
However, some jobs are overlooked more than others and do not receive the proper credit, like the
pharmacist. Pharmacists are recognized for dispensing and sorting drugs, but their jobs help
educate patients over their prescription and uphold the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This career goes unnoticed because many do not see the importance of it. Without this field, the
balance in the medical community would be disrupted due to patients not receiving their
medication to sustain their life. Although this career may seem easy, there are important
characteristics one must hold in order to be a successful pharmacist. The characteristics to become
a pharmacist cannot be learned in college, it must be emphasized throughout the adolescent years.
Some important features one needs to focus on are memorization, organization, being meticulous,
and have a strong understanding of math and science. In the article Top Skills You Need to be a
Pharmacist , the author states, Before the pharmacist fills the prescription, they need to remember
everything they learned [...]. Pharmacists must know about hundreds of drugs from their generic
and brand names to their side effects and possible drug interactions (Hart). Memorization is
essential in order to be successful in this industry and is difficult to do. The organization skills of
a future pharmacist must be top notch because this field is based on it; medications need to be
categorized by name, dosage amount, and amount of pills. Paying close attention to details is
necessary as well because if there is

Midazolam Case Summary
The most recent decision was on June 29th that basically that a guy named Glossip tried to sue a
hospital or something because the does of Midazolam didn t work. It s clear that petitioners failed
to set up a successful petition so there wasn t a petition. the case number is 14 7955, was argued
on April 29 and was decided two months later on June 29.
Some facts include that the person who started the case was going through some serious pain. the
argument was that a 500 milligram midazolam will not make someone unable to feel pain being
held at a district court. the majority opinion is that it does make them unable to feel pain, the chief
justices were there saying that. The dissenting opinion is that it doesn t make them unable to feel
pain with almost no justices supporting. Cases that were refered to were Baze v Rees, Winter v
Natural Resource Defense Council, and United States v Detroit timber and lumber co. ... Show more

Not only was it made to cut pain reception, it was made to make the consumer pass out meaning if
he felt it all then it was not given to him correctly.
Something needs to be said is that the dissent also stated that the use of midazolam is a violation of
the eighth amendment which raises the question if this guy knows what he s even talking about.
The eighth amendment states that the government can not impose excessive bails, fines, or cruel
and unusual punishment which contradicts the purpose midazolam. Midazolam is to get the
patient out cold so it is easier for the operation to be done as quick, efficient, and as painless as

A Secret Sorrowful Woman
The excerpts from A Secret Sorrow and A Sorrowful Women told stories of two vastly different
women. In A Secret Sorrow a deeply caring passionate women was depicted. Where as in A
Sorrowful Women a cold calloused women was described. After reading the two stories and
comparing the two characters I developed a liking towards Faye. I felt like although Faye was
depicted as vulnerable and reluctant throughout the story her character was strong. There are
several reasons I came to this conclusion. The main reason was because of the subject matter that
she was dealing with. Although she had not come to terms with her situation she knew that she did
not want to let Kai down and stood firm to the decision until she was comfortable and confident

Close Reading of What the Snakes Brings to the World by...
What the Snake Brings to the World is a 2002 poem by the Canadian poet Lorna Crozier. The
poem is free verse, with four stanzas of 6, 4, 4 and 9 lines respectively. The poem is riddled with
Biblical allusions, with the snake being its focal point, making extensive comment on the nature
and consequences of the aforementioned snake. A dominant reading of the poem outlines the
duplicity of the nature of evil and sin and related consequences. An alternate reading of the poem
conveys the idea of the human progression reflected by post lapsarian linguistics. Finally, a resistant
reading attacks the very nature, role and impacts of the Judaeo Christian tradition, claiming it to be
fault laden.
The primary, dominant, idea being conveyed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The end of the poem confirms that without the snake that is modern linguistics, we d have to
live with the singular of everything , expressively oppressed by the lack of freedom within dated
language systems that existed before the Fall of Man. However, there is possible ambivalence
within in poem, as the final word is truth with a capital T , a letter previously sidelined along with
its association to dated and useless language systems. This may possibly suggest that there is in
fact room for pre lapsarian linguistics, but perhaps only within a Biblical context.
A resistant reading of the poem uncovers the idea that religion, specifically the Judeo Christian
religious tradition, is intrinsically harmful and retrogressive in nature. If the snake is interpreted as
a synecdoche for Judaeo Christian religious tradition as a whole, a profoundly negative opinion of
such an ideology is formed throughout the poem. Without the snake that is this religion, there
would be no pain and suffering . The poem asks, what could bear such a weight , interrogating the
conscience of religion, implying guilt on its behalf. Furthermore, the imagery suggested in the
second stanza surrounding the snake s shadow evokes negative ideas concerning the nature of the
religion, which is further bolstered by its ability to separate itself from this shadow, and to move on

Analysis Of Mythmaker By Natasha Trethewey
Few relationships are as deep as those between child and parent. While circumstance and biology
can shape the exact nature of the bond, a child s caretaker is the first to introduce them to the
world. And as they grow and begin to branch out, children look to their parents as a model for how
to interact with the various new situations. Through allusion, potent imagery, and nostalgic diction,
Natasha Trethewey constructs an idolized image of a father guiding their child through life s
challenges only to convey the speakers despair when they are faced with their father s mortality in
Mythmaker. Opening Sentence. The poem opens with a humble description of their father,
describing him as young and scholarly, squint eyed / from the... Show more content on

Using the myth of Icarus, the speaker establishes the importance of myths in her relationship with
her father and the lessons that follow them as they mature. Furthering the importance of mythology
in the speaker s adolescence, the speaker transitions into the story of Narcissus, the man so
enraptured by his own reflection, he disregarded those who tried to save him from himself. The
speaker employs subtle references to the myth through visual imagery such as his watered face
floating / beautiful and tragic (14 15). Alongside the speaker s description of their own face as a
mirrored comfort, this careful choice of words reinforces the speaker s connection to the tale and
how it was relevant in their own life (17). By again utilizing kinesthetic imagery to describe how
their father pulls them to safety, the speaker has further established him as the active force in her
learning and maturation, guiding her away from life s problems and stepping in when necessary.
Once again, the father is the hero of the story, saving his child from becoming to entrapped in
themselves. And while the speaker s problems become more mature as they begin struggling with
vanity and self esteem, the influence of bedtime stories ingrained in them in children and their high
esteem for their father help them navigate their way through the challenges presented to them as
they grow older. Concluding sentence? The speaker continues to build an idolized image of their
father by comparing him

  • 3. Sanity And Insanity In Shakespeare s King Lear Determining the sanity and insanity of an individual can be extremely hard, especially when you do not know much about the person. In Shakespeare s King Lear there are many character who seem like they are going mad, and an example of such a character is King Lear. King Lear succumbs to anger, rash decisions, and grief driving him to insanity, thus leading to the destruction of the kingdom. King Learis a character who displays a great deal of anger throughout the course of the play, he often allows his anger to take over him. A lot of things that are said and during the course of the play are due to Lears anger which is a leading factor for his insanity. Lear loses his temper during a lovetest when his daughter does not give the answer that he was looking for, he disowns her calling Cordelia his, sometime daughter, (1.1.119) and gives her share of the land to her sisters. This in turn leads to his insanity because in his blind rage he does not acknowledge the sincerity behind Cordelia s veiled words; unlike her sisters she does not try to flatter her father in order to receive more land, whereas her sisters have their secrets agendas and do not truly love Lear. In addition to this, King Lear is also enraged when the Earl of Kent who is a loyal follower of Lear, goes against the banishment of Cordelia and speaks up in favour of the youngest daughter. Lear is livid with Kent going against him and banishes Kent, as well reminding him that, if on the tenth day ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Class Struggle Introduction Class struggle is the active expression of a theoretical class conflict looked at from any kind of socialist perspective. Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, leading ideologists of communism, wrote The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggle . Marx s notion of class has nothing to do with social class in the sociological sense of upper, middle and lower classes (which are often defined in terms of quantitative income or wealth). Instead, in an age of capitalism, Marx describes an economic class. Membership in a class is defined by one s relationship to the means of production, i.e., one s position in the social structure that characterizes capitalism. Marx talks mainly about two classes that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... the floods! This dimension of Bangladesh s reality is much more presentable and in tune with what the viewer wants to see. In addition, floods or monsoons are a lot easier to explain away as inevitable than are riots or strikes. For the bourgeoisie, what would be the point in shaking the dominant image of a country made of too much water and too many poor people ? However, it is not possible to completely black out the existence of class struggle and some information gets through. The following is a resume of news clips from various newspapers in December 1994: On December 4th 1994 thousands of poorly paid and poorly equipped police officers, auxiliary militiamen (Ansars) mutinied, taking over two barracks, 22 officers hostage and managing to take control of the headquarters and training centre in the capital, Dacca. After 4 days, by which time the mutiny had spread to other provinces, repression began in earnest. The army s special forces attacked the occupies barracks, using very significant measures: artillery guns, rockets, helicopters, gas, armored cars... with an official toll of 4 deaths and 50 wounded. The first ideological image is therefore shattered: there are more than just disarmed, ragged, soaking wet beggars in Bangladesh! A different technique is now needed to explain events and, this time, the media choose to fall back on the traditional explanation of struggle between official and opposition parties. Indeed, the mutiny in December 1994 in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Christ Figure In A Separate Peace And Cool Hand Luke A Christ Figure is an archetype in literature that echoes the presence and actions of Jesus Christ. These characters are often a martyr who sacrifices himself for the betterment of those around him. John Knowles A Separate Peace, Ken Kesey s One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, and the film Cool Hand Luke are all prime example of works that include a Christ Figure. These characters display characteristics of a Christ Figure, obvious and subtle, including performing miracles, death and resurrection, images of the Last Supper, and an ultimate sacrifice. A Christ Figure will often perform actions that are considered miracles by those around him. The film Cool Hand Luke focuses on the titular character, Luke, a prisoner who refuses to conform to life in prison. Luke performs miracles on more than one occasion throughout the film. This symbolizes the death of Jesus Christ as Finny has to leave Devon and his peaceful presence is missing. His resurrection is when he returns to school, restoring his presence. In Cool Hand Luke, Luke also experiences death and resurrection. After Luke s multiple escape attempts, the guards force Luke to exert himself by digging holes all day, eventually breaking him. Now, the guards have subdued Luke into doing all of their work and have full control over him. While working, Luke is resurrected when he steals the truck with Dragline and makes a final attempt at escaping. Both of these are examples of the death and resurrection of a Christ ... • 7. The Objectives Of Senior Management This is a type of risk that the CRO must assess within the goals of business continuity. The objective of senior management is to be continuing operations as normal and business interruption risks affect the ability of the organization to continue operations normally. The CRO should identify the activities or accidents that would possibly interrupt business, determine the resources available internally to deal with the loss, and ensure that any resources identified would be available to assist with this unlikely event (Elliot, 2012). Securing this type of insurance seeks to transfer the riskof business interruption by providing some mechanism for compensation to the bank and to its employees should a loss occur. Enterprise Risk Management Using Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) techniques to assess risks for the risk management program involves managing risks together as an overall risk program. It differs from traditional risk management that looks at risks individually and manages each risk separately. By integrating the traditional risks that are insurable risks into an ERM program, aids the organization in implementing a strategic risk management program that encompasses the hazard risks along with financial risks, operational risks, and strategic risks into a comprehensive risk management program for the bank. Financial Risks Financial risks are important for the CRO to address through the risk management program. According to Elliott (2012), financial risks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Effects Of Wound Healing On Diabetic Patients eous wound healing and why some processes may be altered in diabetic patients The process by which tissue repair takes place is termed wound healing and is comprised of a continuous sequence of inflammation and repair, in which epithelial, endothelial, inflammatory cells, platelets and fibroblasts briefly come together outside their normal domains, interact to restore a semblance of their usual discipline and having done so resume their normal function . ( The Cellular Biology of Wound Healing2016) Wound healing has 3 distinct stages, an inflammatory response, a proliferation phase and a maturation phase, however wound healing is not a linear process and a patient can move back and forth throughout the stages. After the occurrence of a wound the inflammatory process immediately begins and can last up to 3 days ( Wound Healing 2016), the initial injury causes the small vessels around the wound site to be disturbed resulting in bleeding, the body s first response is a haemodynamic one in that it restricts these vessels in order to prevent blood loss. There then comes a rapid release of preformed inflammatory mediators from the cells surrounding the injury, the first thing this causes is the aggregation of platelets, these platelets adhere to extracellular surface structures which are exposed, such as collagen and basement membranes, this in turn causes serotonin from platelet stores to be stimulated. Roanoke: First English Colony in North America The story of Roanoke, the first English colony in North America, shows some of the ways in which political, economic, and religious competition affected colonization. In 1585, Queen Elizabeth I of England agreed to support the Dutch against the Spanish. She gave a charter of land to an English noble, Sir Walter Raleigh, to establish a colony. This colony would supply the English warships that would fight the Spanish. However, the plan failed when colonists discovered the warships could not navigate the Roanoke harbor s shallow waters. The expedition left more than 100 settlers to establish the colony. England left these colonists alone for three years while it fought against Spain. The requirements of the league are described by historian E.H Carr as being, overly optimistic, hollow and without substance. The invasion of Abyssinia by Mussolini was the embodiment of the failure of Collective Security. Upon hearing of Mussolini s intent to invade the smaller country, Britain and France decided to refrain from intervening as they hoped to make an ally of Italy and did not want Mussolini to break the Stresa Front and side with Hitler. Of course Italy did side with Hitler and through their idleness, set a precedent of inaction that encouraged Hitler and the axis powers to act. Similar examples of the failure of the League can also be seen in its response to Italy and Germany s involvement in the Spanish Civil War and Japan s invasion of Manchuria. According to Barro (2001) the countries mainly affected include Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand, this is because between July 1997 to early 1998 these countries experienced currency depreciations of more than 50%. In these countries, offshore nominal interest rates reached at least 25% at some point between June 1997 and January 1998. In order to ensure the most comprehensive patient care and satisfaction, it is critical to investigate physician and patient interactions during a medical consultation (4 6). Physicians need to be aware not to discourage patients from sharing sensitive information while still conducting the medical aspects of the consultation. • 22. Red Power Movement Research Paper Question 10: Red Power s Impact on American Indian Identity The Red Power movement and especially events like Alcatraz, as well as the grassroots movement helped American Indians to restore their pride and culture and to finally redefine their identity as Indians. Before the period of activism (1960s/1970s), many Natives were not able to openly identify themselves as Indians and to run free in their Indianness , because of the stereotypical stigmatization as poor, savages, uncivilized, etc. The movement s activism is significant for the recreation of the Indian identity and had an enormous impact on American Indian societies, especially in the urban areas. In this connection, the grassroots movement in the cities, which of course counts to Red Power, plays a major role. It established various services, for example Health Care Centers, Community Schools and study programs, for American Indians. In his article, Nicolas G. Rosenthal describes the work of the Indian Health Care Centers as crucial to advocate for self determination and embrace Indian identity (142, 153), which shows how important activism was in urban areas. OSWALT S BOOK THE BIBLE AMONG THE MYTHS David Strickland Old Testament Introduction OBST 590 June 1, 2013 Introduction The author, John N. Oswalt, was first introduced to the subject of this book in his seminary studies in the 1960s. Oswalt introduces his book with a narrative of the similarities and differences that exist between the Old Testamentand the literature of the Ancient Near East. Prior to the 1960s scholars believed that the Old Testament was unique and did not resemble the literature of the surrounding cultures, but now there has been a shift in thought. Many scholars believe today that the Old Testament is virtually identical to Ancient Near East writings. This issue of differences and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Oswalt starts his definition process by discussing the debate of whether the Bible has a distinctive view of reality. Until fifty years ago most scholars believed that biblical literature did not share the characteristics of myth. Today there has been a radical shift in opinions, such as the possibility that mythical thought and mythical literature are at the very heart of Israel s religion.1 Oswalt believes that this change is based on assumptions and not on new discoveries. The problem of definition encompasses the first obstacle when defining a myth. The validity of a definition must be evaluated. The first problem is that a definition must be broad enough to include all the items that share common characteristics but narrow enough to exclude items that only have a few common characteristics. The second problem has to do with the nature of the definition and whether it provides a description or an evaluation. Oswalt groups definitions of myth according to their type as either historical philosophical or phenomenological. He then subdivides historical philosophical into etymological, sociological and literary. Etymological definitions of myth emphasize the falsity of what is being described and are frequently too broad. In sociological definitions of myth, truth is seen as relative. Perception of something being true makes it true. Oswalt labels his final subdivision of historical philosophical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. American Beauty By Sam Mendes American Beauty (1999) is directed by Sam Mendes (also the director of Skyfall and Spectre) and stars Kevin Spacey which examines the ordinary occurances of a family who live a desirable life but are unhappy and stagnant. Kevin Spacey plays the role of Lester Burnham, a suburban father and who is tired of his boring job and family. Within the film are many themes, the most important of these being lust and beauty. The film applies many visual effects to demonstrate the overall desired tone, and helps to implicitly present a false sense of the american dream . American Beautydemonstrates a clear presentation of longing within relationships or lifestyles, and uses filming techniques to imply these hidden themes. The main theme demonstrated throughout the film is seeming, and how it relates to true nature. Each character within the film shows an awareness of the struggles seeming brings, and eventually confronts it. Carolyn is the prime example, as constantly within the film she struggles to progress within her career and attempts to be happy in doing so. This is shown in the scene where she attempts to sell a house, fails to do so, and physically abuses herself as punishment. Colonel Fitts (Ricky s father) also struggles with appearance, as he constantly tells Ricky homosexuality is disgusting, and nearing the end of the film we find Fitts is homosexual himself. This challenges his interpretation of masculinity and what he has believed his entire life. A huge element ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The point also explains why developing country usually relies on foreign aid as means of sustaining their own economies. Initially animals used to have very long time span in that goats or even cattle could stay for years and yet they are still very productive. This has certainly changed as result of climatic changes. The animals used to live longer as a result of cold temperatures that used to slow down their rates of metabolism hence the longer life span. Temperatures today are very high as a result of climatic changes. The increased temperatures have actually led to increase in the metabolic rate of the animals hence the reduction in the life span. This explains why animals today cannot even live for more than five years and then remain productive all along as animals could live for a whole decade but still remain very productive. It is believed that the presence of favorable climatic conditions usually increase the life span of animals or even plants by more than 20 percent. This is very reason the people back in the 1700s all the way to the late 1800s used to live long and they were not really exposed to the kind of diseases that people are currently exposed to (Letcher, T. Both texts are also set in a similar timeframe, this being the 80 s/ 90 s, reflecting the social issues of the era. Racism and extremism are depicted clearly in both American History X and Romper Stomper, accentuated through violent and hateful dialogue. Flashbacks are clearly used to establish the creation and reason for these racist thoughts and extremist behaviour in American History X. These flashbacks are shown in black and white, symbolising the state of mind the antagonist (Derek) was in. He is presented as narrow minded, at the height of his ideology and can only see things in right or wrong, black or white. Once Derek realises and loathes his wrongs, he sees in colour, a clever use of film techniques used by Kaye. Examination Of Biliverdin Ix Beta Reductase Examination of Biliverdin IX Beta Reductase October 10 2014 Joel Langford It is evident that there are many significant biological syntheses that take place in this world. This includes the synthesis of bilirubin (BR) from biliverdin (BV) with biliverdin IX beta reductase (BVR). BV is one of three products produced from heme being catalyzed by heme oxygenase. Now, BVR, as seen in Figure 1, is known as an enzyme that catalyzes the reduction of BV s double bond to a single bond on the second and third pyrrole ring. In other words, BVR reduces BV, which is hydrophilic, using NADPH and yields the product bilirubin, which is hydrophobic (1). The schematic for this mechanism is shown below... Schematic 1: It is important to note ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This paper will examine the three dimensional structure of BVR and its specific interactions. Among the 204 amino acid residues in BVR, its secondary structure contains alpha helices, beta sheets, and turns, as seen in Figure 2 (4). The arrangement of these helices and sheets represents that of a Rossmann Fold (5). The protein structure of a Rossmann Fold contains six parallel beta strands that are linked to two pairs of alpha helices (6). In BVR, there are ten beta sheets, six of which lie parallel forming the Rossmann Fold, and there are seven alpha helices which seem to be wrapping around the Rossmann Fold, which explains the beta alpha beta alpha beta topological order. For example, this includes the central beta sheet and the two groups of alpha helices. To understand the consequences of losing the sense of touch we must first understand its benefits. Touch is an important element of how we understand and relate to our world. Touch can convey personal feeling towards one another or it can convey danger such as heat or sharp surfaces. The inability to feel sensations on the ski impacts many different situations and can potentially have dangerous repercussions. Our ability to survive is not generally dependent on our sense of smell or our sense of taste. However, if one does not possess the sense of touch, it can directly imperil our very existence. The consequences for a loss of the ability to process pain would be numerous and catastrophic. Pain is your body s way of telling you something is wrong. Pain s job is to draw your attention to sensations such as a burn or a bone break so that you can address the cause of the issue. For instance, if you sprained your ankle, without pain receptors your body would have no way of alarming you of the danger. This situation could require you to tear something resulting in a major injury instead of a minor sprain which would take a couple weeks to heal. • 41. A Secret Sorrowful Woman The excerpts from A Secret Sorrow and A Sorrowful Women told stories of two vastly different women. In A Secret Sorrow a deeply caring passionate women was depicted. Where as in A Sorrowful Women a cold calloused women was described. After reading the two stories and comparing the two characters I developed a liking towards Faye. I felt like although Faye was depicted as vulnerable and reluctant throughout the story her character was strong. There are several reasons I came to this conclusion. The main reason was because of the subject matter that she was dealing with. • 43. Close Reading of What the Snakes Brings to the World by... What the Snake Brings to the World is a 2002 poem by the Canadian poet Lorna Crozier. The poem is free verse, with four stanzas of 6, 4, 4 and 9 lines respectively. The poem is riddled with Biblical allusions, with the snake being its focal point, making extensive comment on the nature and consequences of the aforementioned snake. A dominant reading of the poem outlines the duplicity of the nature of evil and sin and related consequences. An alternate reading of the poem conveys the idea of the human progression reflected by post lapsarian linguistics. Finally, a resistant reading attacks the very nature, role and impacts of the Judaeo Christian tradition, claiming it to be fault laden. The primary, dominant, idea being conveyed ... The end of the poem confirms that without the snake that is modern linguistics, we d have to live with the singular of everything , expressively oppressed by the lack of freedom within dated language systems that existed before the Fall of Man. However, there is possible ambivalence within in poem, as the final word is truth with a capital T , a letter previously sidelined along with its association to dated and useless language systems. This may possibly suggest that there is in fact room for pre lapsarian linguistics, but perhaps only within a Biblical context. A resistant reading of the poem uncovers the idea that religion, specifically the Judeo Christian religious tradition, is intrinsically harmful and retrogressive in nature. If the snake is interpreted as a synecdoche for Judaeo Christian religious tradition as a whole, a profoundly negative opinion of such an ideology is formed throughout the poem. Without the snake that is this religion, there would be no pain and suffering . The poem asks, what could bear such a weight , interrogating the conscience of religion, implying guilt on its behalf. Furthermore, the imagery suggested in the second stanza surrounding the snake s shadow evokes negative ideas concerning the nature of the religion, which is further bolstered by its ability to separate itself from this shadow, and to move on ... • 44. Analysis Of Mythmaker By Natasha Trethewey Few relationships are as deep as those between child and parent. While circumstance and biology can shape the exact nature of the bond, a child s caretaker is the first to introduce them to the world. And as they grow and begin to branch out, children look to their parents as a model for how to interact with the various new situations. Through allusion, potent imagery, and nostalgic diction, Natasha Trethewey constructs an idolized image of a father guiding their child through life s challenges only to convey the speakers despair when they are faced with their father s mortality in Mythmaker. Opening Sentence. The poem opens with a humble description of their father, describing him as young and scholarly, squint eyed / from the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Using the myth of Icarus, the speaker establishes the importance of myths in her relationship with her father and the lessons that follow them as they mature. Furthering the importance of mythology in the speaker s adolescence, the speaker transitions into the story of Narcissus, the man so enraptured by his own reflection, he disregarded those who tried to save him from himself. The speaker employs subtle references to the myth through visual imagery such as his watered face floating / beautiful and tragic (14 15). Alongside the speaker s description of their own face as a mirrored comfort, this careful choice of words reinforces the speaker s connection to the tale and how it was relevant in their own life (17). By again utilizing kinesthetic imagery to describe how their father pulls them to safety, the speaker has further established him as the active force in her learning and maturation, guiding her away from life s problems and stepping in when necessary. Once again, the father is the hero of the story, saving his child from becoming to entrapped in themselves. And while the speaker s problems become more mature as they begin struggling with vanity and self esteem, the influence of bedtime stories ingrained in them in children and their high esteem for their father help them navigate their way through the challenges presented to them as they grow older. Concluding sentence? The speaker continues to build an idolized image of their father by comparing him ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
