Sixth Sense Technology
INTRODUCTION Sixth sense is a wearable gestural interface that augments the physical world around us with the digital information and lets us use natural hand gestures to interact with that information It was developed by Pranav Mistry a PhD student in the fluid interfaces group at the MIT media lab
WHY SIXTH SENSE???
WHY SIXTH SENSE?
REDUCES OUR WORK LOAD
HISTORY
COMPONENTS Camera Projector Mirror Mobile Component Coloured Markers
CAMERA Captures an object in view and tracks the user’s hand gestures It acts as a digital eye
PROJECTOR The projector projects the visual information enabling surfaces and physical objects to be used as interfaces
Mirror The usage of mirror is significant as the projector dangles pointing downwards from the neck A web enabled smart phone in the user’s pocket processes the video data Mobile
Coloured markers It is at the tip of user’s fingers Marking the user’s fingers with red, yellow, green and blue tapes helps the web cam recognizes the gestures
RELATED TECHNOLGIES AUGMENTED REALITY GESTURE RECOGNITION COMPUTER VISION RADIO FREQUENCY IDENTIFICATION
HOW DOES IT WORKS? PICTURES GESTURES IMAGES INFORMATION ON SURFACE Capture Send for processing Send in f o Project image
APPLICATIONS MAKE A CALL CALL UP A MAP
CHECK THE TIME VIDEOS ON NEWS PAPERS
DRAWING APPLICATION PLAYING GAMES
BOOK INFORMATION FLIGHT UPDATES
GET PRODUCT INFORMATION
TAKE A SNAP
INFORMATION ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE
ADVANTAGES Portable Supports multi touch and multi user interaction Connects the digital world and physical world Effective cost Data access directly from the machine in real time Map the idea anywhere It is an open source
CONCLUSION Sixth sense recognizes the objects around us, displaying information automatically and letting us to access it in any way we need. In simple, it is almost like installing a digital system (computer) into our body and further making it as sixth sense of our body The sixth sense prototype implements several applications that demonstrate the usefulness, viability and flexibility of the system. Allowing us to interact with the information via natural hand gestures.
