4. Now:– mark the 500 years since when we
first accepted the faith
*Has that faith, does that faith
make any difference in our life /
nation?
*PCP I 1953 – some questions were
asked differently and were answered
differently. The call was for a
change – A CALL FOR RENEWAL.
THE Church has answered the call but
not always faithfully, not always
wholeheartedly in LITTLE and IN BIG
WAYS. But at least we have grown.
5. The Filipino
Context of Faith
has very sharp
and colorful
religious
experience.
◦ Pre-Spanish times
◦ Spanish –
Christian
Evangelization
◦ American –
Protestant Influx
Martin Luther
11. Our understanding and love of
Jesus Christ has been colored
by our personal and national
historical experience of PAIN
and STRUGGLE, of VICTORY
and CELEBRATION.
So too, our faith in Jesus is
marked by our deep devotion to
Mary.
12. SELF – IDENTITY:
◦ Family oriented (pagpapahalaga sa
pamilya) NA KUNG SAAN ITO ANG
PINAG-UUGATAN NG ATING: sense of
belongingness, stability and security.
13. MEANING IN LIFE:
◦ Meal oriented
(mahilig sa salu-salo)
we love to celebrate
events with special
meal, rich and poor
alike. (Na kung saan
ito ang pinag-
uugatan ng ating
relasyon at mga
pagpapahalaga sa
15. LIFE COMMITMENT:
Bayani oriented – we tend
instinctively to always personalize any
good cause in terms of a leader
especially when its object is to defend
the weak and the oppressed.
16. WORLD VIEW:
◦ Spirit oriented
– we have a
deep-seated
belief in
supernatural
and in all kinds
of spirit dwelling
in individual
person, even in
today’s world of
science and
technology.
18. STATISTICS:
World: 6.5 billion people (the world can
sustain 20 billion people)
Asia: 3.7 billion
Other continents: 2.8 billion
◦ 2007 Survey: Philippines have 86
million population.
◦ 69 million are catholic (80%)
80% of the Filipinos are Christians:
WHY
19. With all these predominant Filipino
characteristics we can easily identify
ourselves to Jesus – WHY
Family oriented – Jesus lived in a family
with Mary and Joseph, he also became a
child (Sto. Niño).
Meal oriented – Jesus as Eucharist is not
only the host and food but even guest in
every gathering. EX. First miracle:
Wedding at Cana, conversion of
Zaccheus, with Mary, Martha and Lazarus,
multiplication of bread, Last Supper, Post
resurrection meals.
20. Suffering or kundiman oriented – more
people during Holy Week, Santo Entiero
devotion, Sacred Heart. Lumapit kayo sa
akin, kayong lahat na napapagal at
nabibigatan sa inyong pasanin at kayo’y
pagiginhawahin ko.(Mt 14, 28)
Bayani oriented (Pananagutan sa buhay) –
Christ the King: our hope in the assurance of
Jesus that everything will be alright in the
end. Bahala na ang Diyos (victory over
death). Luke 7, 22… Nakakakita ang mga
bulag, nakakalakad ang mga pilay,
gumagaling ang mga ketongin, nakaririnig
ang mga bingi, muling nabubuhay ang mga
patay, at ipinangangaral sa dukha ang
Mabuting Balita.
21. Spirit oriented – (pananaw sa daigdig) -
Jesus as miracle worker. Nangakong
ipadadala ang kanyang Espiritu sa
kanyang mga alagad upang bigyan sila
ng bagong buhay. Ang Espiritu Santo na
isinugo ng Ama at ni Jesukristong Muling
Nabuhay ang siyang nagbubuklod sa atin
bilang isang sambayanan kung saan ang
mga pamahiin at mga mapang aliping
mahika ay nadadaig ng tunay na
pagsamba sa Ama, sa Espiritu at sa
katotohanan. Sa sambahayan ni Kristo
ang simbahan ang bawat isa’y binigyan
ng kaloob na naghahayag na
sumasakanya ang Espiritu para sa
ikabubuti ng lahat.
