Saint Donnán was an Irish monk who sought to spread Christianity among the Picts in northwestern Scotland during the early Middle Ages and is recognized as the patron saint of Eigg, where he was martyred. The accounts of his death describe how he and 52 of his monks were killed by bandits while celebrating mass, with variations of the narrative mentioning burning by a pagan queen. His feast day is celebrated on April 17.
