Narrative
 Five act structure
 Linear narrative
 Quite a large cast of characters
 More narrative threads. A number of ā€˜background characters have stories hinted at a
real world setting but with fantasy music numbers.
Genre
 Musical – Singing and dancing. Normally in a musical, they break out into song and
everyone in the scene knows the choreography for the dance. However, in this movie,
it is a backstreet movie so the characters are signing because they’re playing the
music and singing along with it. Nothing is choreographed up until the fantasy scene.
 Comedy

 Money
 Entertain / make people laugh
 Sell the soundtrack

Messages and Values
The messages and values shown in this movie is that life is hard so, don’t give up and go for
it. Also, having fantasy moments doesn’t solve everything but just makes you feel better for a
short time.
Success
I really enjoyed the movie so, in my eyes it was a success. They made over 9 million dollars
from making this movie. It cost around $4 million but ended up making $13.5 million. For
the audiences, the movie was a success so, if someone who was middle aged who enjoys
action movies, watched this, they might not enjoy it but for the purpose of the movie and
their target audiences, they’re very successful.
The movie won four awards:
 Irish film and Television award
 National Board Review
 San Diego Film Critics Society
 St. Louis Gateway Film Critics Association
