The song and music video for "Stan" by Eminem tell the story of an obsessed fan named Stan who writes letters to Eminem. The music video shows Stan becoming increasingly unstable as he does not receive a response from his idol. It ends with Stan driving his car into a lake with his pregnant girlfriend in the passenger seat. Though nonlinear at times, the overall narrative progresses the story in a linear, chronological fashion to clearly convey the tragic tale to viewers.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

1. Eminem Stan
The genre is Rap. The song is about Stan wanting to meet slimShady and slimis ignoring it
but the letter never gets to him. The target audience for the song Stan is mostly teenagers
The song Stan is linear because it goes forward. For the song to be linear it’s so much easier
to give the message to the audience because they understand it so much better because it’s
all in chorological order. If its nonlinear then people can easily get confused. It’s so rare to
have a pop artist be in the same song with a famous artist.
There are a lot of close up when he messes his hair up and when he is writing. There’s also a
mid-angle shot.
When Stan meets Eminem. Light is shown here to show that he is in a good mood because
in other parts of the video he is angry and crazy. Dancing symbolises happiness and this
does not fit with the song. The music video is a narrative telling the story of a fan that writes
to Eminem. It is linear as the story is going forward in time but there are flashbacks in
certain parts. It is going in chronological order and this is not to tell the audience different
things. Therefore, they still know what the message is and that it is still being shown.
Eminem is the same as everyone else but with fans but this is because he will be turned in to
a star. However, as Stan does not reply to his fan main this might make the audience thing
that he does not care. The women is trying to care for him but it is too difficult and mainly in
music videos, they are supportive of their men. A great example of Stan’s social class is
shown in the music video it shows that he is stressed and struggling. So it’s shown that
people that lower class people are the same as Stan and can always build up the way he
does. The basement is dark and it fits well with Eminem because it shows his mood. So its
2. also unconventional because its mainly set in a basement. Most famous stars use massive
houses, money, women or even parties.
There is no male gaze in the whole video, which usually gets the audience attracted but not
this time. In the video its very polysemic there are a lot of obvoius messages that are given
to the audience. Stan was the greatest song he ever wrote, although it's debatable. It's
usually ranked one of his best. The video is great as in because
Back when he wasn't the inspirational rapper people liked, in fact, most Eminem fans today
would hate 90s Eminem. Slim Shady was crazy. He rapped about drugs and a lot of other
things that are just insane a lot of this was about his thoughts and feelings. Most rappers
make music believable because their raps are about what happens today. A music video
gives the message and it makes people understand it so much better about what the song is
about. It gives a code. The signs are featured
in the text that is given. An unconventional
feature is the song meaning. As most other
hip-hop artist would show happiness in their
wealth and try to get their audience to follow
them. However, Eminem is clearly showing
this to show that he wants his fans to be who
they are and the song has a sad tone to it.
Stan the song by Eminem is a depressing song its dark and there is a lot of lightning
throughout it all which makes it deep and scary. Dido is interacting with a big rapper which
is un convention the song is linear it gives an easy message and not a confusing. The song is
all in order. Seems like the house Stan lives in is a poor area and an old place because it just
looks messy and it seems like they don’t have the funds to change it.
The letter Stan wrote to Eminem didn’t get to him
it fell out of the post.
But because Eminem has so many fans he can’t
answer them all. But Stan got a tattoo of Eminem
face on his body. Stan just wants him so bad he
does meet him though
Stan wears white which symbolises madness
mental in some cultures. In the video Stan is mad
and he does some crazy things. Every music
videos has to give a message of what’s going on
and it usually does. It gives a code of what genre it
is.
The first thing we see or understand within a
media text is the deeper meaning or the hidden text shows that’s it really important. There
are a lot of given signs and codes in Stan firstly the whole song is about Stan writing
messages to Eminem but Stan gets frustrated because he doesn’t know why he hasn’t got
3. given a message back but it’s because it got lost in the post. Eminem tries to meet Stan and
his child but is pulled away by security. Which makes Stan really angry.
Convention Andrew Goodwin music video theory number 1 is to do the relationships
between the lyrics and the visuals,
which illustrate the lyrics. Then he
says the relationship between the
music and the visuals which illustrate
the music. Then the third theory is
genre related style. Goodwin’s theory
is that he thinks people always repeat
the same actions with their music
videos but it’s a good way to make the
audience be interested for example
Justin Bieber is always with girls and
he’s always interacting with them. But
its only to attract the audience. His 4th
theory is multiple close ups of the main
artist of vocalist the creation of star
image to promote a recognizable brand
image. To make the star stand out and
for the audience to know that there the
star that people need to focus on. But
its most common for female artist to do
it and he angle of the close up is perfect
and it attracts the audience to make a
lot of money but they can’t show nudity
completely. The 5th theory that Andrew
says is that voyeurism often plays a
major part especially in relations to female. But Goodwin thinks that many music videos
include voyeuristic angle of women to make sure the male audience interact with the artist.
For example, Miley Cyrus does a few songs and shows her body out for everyone to see
which attracts the male audience. Also more people will buy her music videos. But Goodwin
4. last theory is that Andrew thinks that it was not uncommon to recognise the lyrics of a song
because the video could say nothing about the words in the songs so the audience would be
confused and not get the song. For artist to make a music video it’s to make the audience
more interested and so they can follow what’s going on. Lastly if the male gaze is shown
that’s what gets people to buy and more money is made because to show nudity attracts
the audience. Some people are different and don’t go just for what people show its
sometimes about the song obviously. The weather is a symbol to show that it’s a sad story
and that at the end when Stan brother Michael takes his hood off in the funeral the women
which I would think it his mum is in shock. I think it’s because of his hair its blonde just like
Stan and Eminem and that represents something because Stan and Michael are both the
same as Eminem and the whole song is ad and depressed and dull. It’s a very popular song
by Eminem its one of his top songs. The video is unconventional for a hip hop music video
because there all wearing white and then for the funeral they wear black, black shows death
and evil and white show madness or mental.
Katy Perry a nerdy teenager who becomes the life of the party
The genre is pop but it’s based on a time in
the 80s or 90s. The location looks like a movie
at the start because it shows the street of a
few houses with massive houses, the location
looks like a rich area and Katy Perry house is
huge as she had a massive a party. There is a
really popular boy that comes to the party
that shows his body off to the girls but then
again he can get any girl he wants. He seems
very popular but also rude as he gives a dirty look at Katy Perry until she changes in to
tighter clothing and something that makes her stand out and look good and then the boy
goes for her.
People start to take notice of her because she
stands out in the party and she actually looks
like she can become more popular. But the
whole video looks like a dream she is in nerdy
clothes at the start and at the end she wakes
up in her bed with her nerdy clothes on and
she is confused about what’s going on and
what happened then she blames it on her
friend Rebecca. The words in the song is given so clearly the video and the music is perfect
together the words are about a party on Friday night and in the music video it goes well
together the only thing that is confusing is because its nonlinear because straight away at
the beginning the house is trashed and they didn’t go from the start of the party beginning
5. its actually the next day. The order of the song is
all in a different order. The style of the song and
the video seems like 80s and 90s. The images
shown in the music video cut to the beat of the
song, as most music videos have to try to make
sure that they get the beat right and the shots
shouldn’t be long. I think some shots need to be
slowed down for the audience to understand it
all without missing some shots. Goodwin’s
theory with music videos says that there is a
relationship between the lyrics and the images in
order to explain the lyrics. In most music video it
shows sexual interaction and at one point there’s a
stranger in the bed next to Katy Perry which shows
that they could have done something.
The video is pop style, the whole video shows all
bright colours, dancing thoughtout the whole
music video. The party shows it’s a girly thing
because it’s all bright colours and very pink.
In the song Katy Perry is a nerd and
there is also a boy nerd and you would
thing that they both go well together
because they both have big glasses and
they are both un popular until Katy
Perry changes in to something better
and makes her look hot for the
audience to get attracted and also for
her to become more popular and not
get the nerd get the muscle good body
and popular. Thoughtout the music video the nerd has fantasies about Katy Perry and them
in love because he sees her as a nerd like himself so the audience would think they go well
together. The nerd also shows that people with big muscle isn’t always the one to win as the
nerd punches the big popular muscle guy that could make the nerd more popular because
6. he thought it was wrong for the big muscle man to squeeze Katy Perry’s bum and he got
jealous.
There are a lot of close ups to Katy Perry when she walks
down the stairs they zoom in to her face and then she
makes a big smile to get people’s attention and for
people to think different because it’s such a big change
from a nerd to someone so much better.
Katy Perry is wearing pink and green and that symbolises
that she is trying to stand out and get people to notice her. Near the end she vomits which
shows that she must have either drank too much and then she passed out in to her bed
which shows that it was a great time and her parents are
called the best Friday night parties and they invented it
that’s what Katy Perry’s parents are known for. Katy
Perry lip-syncs the words in the music video, which
shows that the audience understand the connection
between the way the story is told. It is obvious that Katy
Perry is the main star. There is lots of dancing shown
because the music video is set at a massive house party.
It is also shown in many music videos dancing and
having parties are shown. Katy Perry is firstly shown as
an unpopular teenager because she is a nerd so she has
to make herself look good and have the best party ever.
She has a makeover from her friend which makes her
stand out which everyone looks at her, as she’s the best
looking now. Katy Perry also shows that you do not have
to be cool to have a good time; nerd can have a fun
time too. When her parents get home and see the
house at first there angry but they then show that there happy that she had a cool party like
it was in the video as her parents knew that she wasn’t like that and she’s a nerd. The music
video follows a nonlinear narrative because the video begins with the party from the night
before. Its set in order to make the audience watch the whole music video so its easier to
understand what’s happening. Katy Perry facial expressions are shown clearly.
