Production of aluminum (emphasis on energy and materials requirements) Thanos Paraschos
Aluminum is produced commercially using Bayer process and Hell- Héroult process. Besides scrap recycling and reuse of aluminum hydroxide contribute to total production. Bauxite is crushed, digested, precipitated, and calcined resulting in alumina. The alumina is then reduced to aluminum by electrolysis. The worldwide Al production is 41.1 million tons in 2010. The global average in energy is consumption is about 15kWh/kg of Al. The production process is energy intensive and used about 3% of global electricity production in 2010.

A review of the production of ferromanganese in blast furnaceJorge Madias
The production of high-carbon ferromanganese in blast furnaces is reviewed, based on public literature and
requests to consultants and suppliers to the industry.
The review includes an overview of the FeMn production in blast furnaces during latest decades; main
features of raw materials and reductants, and its influence on the process; raw materials preparation, including
sintering; design features of the blast furnaces, lining, cooling, operating practice, combination with hot metal
production, offgas treatment, specific consumption of coke and Mn ore, casting practice, and a comparison
with submerged arc furnaces.
Healthy City works with community-based organizations to apply Community Based Participatory Action Research (CBPAR) in their mapping and community-engagement work. CBPAR starts with issues and strategies to produce analysis, uses mapping technology as one tool for community engagement and focuses on communities within a geographic location, such as a neighborhood. Using CPBAR in mapping facilitates engagement, education, strategizing, and dialogue among community members--including youth--and decision-makers.
Including young people in map making allows them to contribute their unique knowledge and lived experiences as community residents. Youth can provide invaluable insight and can act as change agents advocating on behalf of their communities. Whether you are a Youth Organizer, Community Liaison or Direct Service Provider, there are a number of ways you can incorporate and share youth data and stories using a variety of free resources and tools available on HealthyCity.org to build community power.
In this webinar you will learn how to:
1) Research and map youth population data to enhance program focus and planning on healthycity.org
2) Upload your own data onto a map
3) Use Wikimaps to better plan, collaborate and share youth outreach strategies and stories
Agile practices work because they force us to leave the world of speculation and 'get real.' These are the slides that I presented at Turku Agile Day, March 18, 2010.
