Projects and technical experiences:
Worked in Material Characterization and Preparation Centre (MCPC), Hong Kong University of Science
and Technology from Jul. 1993 to Dec. 2002, experienced in AFM, SEM, TEM, step profiler,
spectroscopic ellipsometer, optical thin film test, SIMS, XPS, Auger, and many other e-beam, x-ray and
ion probe technologies, low temperature testing techniques like Hall measurement, and test various of
materials in internal research and external industrial projects in the areas of micro-devices,
nano-materials, photonics and magnetic devices, and sample preparation skill in thin film technologies
(hands-on in PVD, e-beam, sputtering), these works leading to co-authored over 20 technical papers
2. published in international journal, proceedings and conferences.
To highlight several projects:
1. Paper co-author with Prof. W. H. Mow in nano-magnetic devices
2. Paper co-author with Prof. Andrew Poon in nano-photonic devices,
3. Assist the establishment of Magnetic Innovation Centre funded by ITF, new magnetic storage
methods were explored.
I had developed nano-magnetic particles applied in solid state memory technique, worked with Prof.
W. H. Mow (EEE, HKUST) for two years and leading to the improvement magnetic random access
memory with publications including:
Edward K. S. Au, Wing-Hung Ki, Wai Ho Mow, Silas T. Hung, Catherine Y. Wong, “A
binary-search switch switched current sensing scheme for 4-state MRAM”, ACM Great
Lakes Symposium on VLSI 2004, pp. 304-307.

Current-Mode Sensing Scheme for Magnetic Tunnel Junction MRAM”, IEEE Transactions on
Magnetics, Vol. 40, No. 2, March 2004, pp. 483-488.
On opto-electronic research, I will also highlight my works will Prof. Andrew Poon (EEE, HKUST), we
have explored research works with direction to combining magnetic, optics, and electronics together,
our joint work summarized in below conference paper:
