Every museum has an object that has a story to tell to the visitors. Collecting institutions will often
spend more time, energy, and money caring for the objects that visitors do not see than the
institutions spend on the public exhibits. (Moses, 1) These objects, whether displayed in exhibits
or in storage hidden from the public view, are instilled with meaning, as the objects tell us who we
are as individuals and as a society and connect us with our past. (Moses, 2) However, while
collecting institutions, whether big or small, can present and collect objects that resemble and
define who we are as a society, institutions will constantly face internal and external struggles that
will define how an institution not only presents the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nancy Moses main argument is that each collecting institution must continually struggle to remain
relevant to the local community. In the first chapter, Nancy Moses discusses the Audubon birds at
the Academy of Natural Science in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She describes the Academy s
struggles, which centers around its appearance to the public as a natural science museum, when it is
actually a research center with a museum attached to the center. The museum includes dated
exhibits that show considerable neglect. (Moses, 21) The Academy was able to safely store the
Audubon birds and other objects, but the Academy was unable to successfully maintain and
preserve the objects financially. This led to the Academy s second problem. The Academy had
chronic and escalating problems with money because none of the three divisions within the
Academy generated enough money to support their work. (Moses, 22) To combat the financial
problem, the Academy s board voted to sell more than 15,000 of their minerals and gems that had
never been previously displayed, and use the proceeds to support their library. (Moses, 22) The
Academy wanted to continue to remain a research center and believed that by selling their objects,
they were meeting the needs and wants of the

Schools As Organisations Know the structure of education from early years to post compulsory
education Task 1 An education provides people not only with the academic skills required, but
also the social skills such as having the self confidence and belief in ones self to achieve a
fulfilling and happy life. It is every child s human right to receive such an education from early
years to higher, and therefore several stages in which they must travel for this to happen. Early
Years Education The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a structure in place for the learning

The funding mainly comes from school fees and income from investments, gifts and charities. The
building and land is owned by the governing body, and as many of these schools have charitable
status they would be tax exempt. They will set their own admission policy and curriculum through
the governing body and head teacher. (L/O 1.2) Academies Initially a school had to source funding
of ВЈ2 million from businesses, charities or faith bodies to become an academy, however this
requirement changed in 2010. The Government decided to allow any school within England the
chance to achieve academy status with the involvement of the local community. An academy is
obliged to follow the National Curriculum, but has certain freedom around its delivery. Its funding
comes from central government rather than the LEA, which would be at the same level per pupil
as a maintained school. This allows the academy to choose how their budget is spent in a way that
s most beneficial to its students. (L/O 1.2) Key Stages and Areas of Study As previously
mentioned, children from the age of 5 to 16 who are educated in a maintained school must be taught
the National Curriculum. This sets out the key stages and core subjects they will follow throughout
their time at school. Within this framework, schools can plan and organise the way they teach to
best meet the needs of their

Central City Emergency Response Paper
Central City previous mayor took the initial steps to adopt the IMS based operations, which is a
good start. The city is vulnerable to various kinds of routine emergencies that can be handled
with confidence. What Central City needs to prepare for are novelties. The wave of hurricanes
that hit the region this fall should be a wakeup call for the city to be ready for all types of crises.
The IMS needs to be the foundation for Central Cityemergency response. This will require a lot of
hard work and preparation. It s the mayor s responsibility towards the citizens of this city to have
an effective emergency response system that can handle all scales of emergencies to achieve the
best results. IMS provides a comprehensive systematic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To do so, the mayor needs to lead the efforts to overcome cognitive biases between emergency
leaders and stress the fact that this is a collective learning process that requires group effort, inputs
and buy in from all agencies. This important factor will eliminate redundancy, waste of resources
and interoperability between forces which is crucial to effectiveness. The third step is effectively
managing and sharing resources that are critical to all jurisdictions. Mutual aid arrangements need
to be in place to access facilities, services, and support from other jurisdictions throughout the
incident. A resource managementsystem should be established for describing, inventorying,
requesting, tracking, activating and dispatching resources. This will also help in financial tracking,
reimbursement, and reporting. The fourth step is for the city to employ a unified command to
establish connection between deployed responders. This will enhance collaboration between
several functional teams like police and fire departments and will build consensus between them.
The fifth and most important step of implementing the IMS is to develop an ongoing maintenance
plan. The previous four steps can be reviewed periodically and will always have room for
improvement. All levels of city government; elected and appointed; need to be involved. Other
stakeholders like the private sector and

World Trade Center Expansion
The World Trade Center stood to be built as a reflection of peace with a fierce ambition and
disciplined achievement on a massive scale. The statement of these buildings was to construct an
uplifting stamina of downtown Manhattan. Its purpose created both a negative and positive aspect
in its construction to help those in need of it, but it also caused some damage in its creation. Its
massive scale as buildings allowed the people of New York Cityto see it as a symbol of expansion in
that particular area of Downtown Manhattan from it reign being the peace towers to the

Various Types Of Occupational Fraud
Types of Fraud
The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners displays what is known as the Fraud Tree. It is a
representation of the three major types of occupational fraud (www.acfe.com). Occupational fraud
is any scheme that involves employees taking cash, resources, or misapplies assets of the business
for their personal gain (www.smartceo.com).
Type I: Corruption
Corruption is an intentional, dishonest act where an employee abuses their position in the
company for personal gain (www.curtin.edu.au). It can take many forms. Bribery is a form of
corruption. This is receiving or paying for illegal advantages. An example of bribery is a
company official paying a public official to gain advantage over competitors. Embezzlement is
another form of corruption. This is when someone has legal access, but not ownership of assets,
that steals them for personal gain. For example, the treasurer of the local PTA may decide to take
PTA funds to buy her daughter s prom dress. Conflict of interest is another form of corruption. If
the purchasing manager sits on the board of his wife s company and then awards contracts to her
company, that is a conflict of interest.
Type II: Asset Misappropriation
This is the most common form of occupational fraud and accounts for over 85% of fraud cases. It
also usually has the lowest cost of loss. Asset misappropriation is the intentional, illegal use of the
company s assets for one s personal use (Mohlenhoff Uhl, 2014). An example would

What Is Teenage Curfew Persuasive Essay
Many young teenagers enjoy living life on the edge; they often think or see themselves as fully
grown adults, capable of making their own decisions, and having the freedom that comes with it.
But more often than not, teenagers are not fully able to grasp the sense of maturity and
consequence in every day life, much less out in the real world. In order to keep them safe and
away from harm, a curfew is a perfect wall for teens to stay behind. Everyone remembers that, at
least once as a child, they have dreamt of having the freedom, will, and maturity that their parent or
guardian possesses. Even today, children often pretend to be a business man or president; someone
that they hope to be when they get older. True, teenagers are closer to... Show more content on

Teenagers are often seen as reckless and immature, rather than having the calm and collected
composure that an adult is seen with. This immaturity can sometimes be so high, they simply
refuse to take the fall for the decisions they made; some fail to realize that, in real life, everyone
must take the good with the bad, not solely claim the benefits. This fragile flaw can very much
prove fatal, so a curfew can very much save young citizens from themselves. Many television
shows and movies are known to give a young character an episode or scene about him or her, and
it often runs down the same road; the child or teen does something reckless or idiotic, they try
extremely hard to fix it (but it often makes things worse), and when they fail, they must face the
consequences. A well known example is from the hit Cartoon Network show The Amazing
world or Gumball, where the main character Gumball causes trouble with little or no intention.
In one specific episode, Gumball accidentally damages a rented DVD, and when he tries to fix it,
he ends up breaking it. This may seem like a silly show, but there is one big comparison between
his actions and real life: In every episode, such as the DVD episode, he is forced to face the

The Radioactive Boy Scout By Ken Silverstein Recreates-
The Radioactive Boy Scout Introduction Growing up in suburban Detroit, David Hahn was
fascinated by science. While working on his Atomic Energy badge for the Boy Scouts, David s
obsessive attention turned to nuclear energy. Not worried about being safe and taking the pre
cautions, he plunged into a new project: building a nuclear breeder reactor in his backyard garden
shed. In the Radioactive Boy Scout, veteran journalist Ken Silverstein recreates in brilliant detail
the months of David s improbable nuclear quest. Acting as a physics professor, David solicited
information on reactor design from the United States government and from industry experts.

David went back to the cabinet and pulled out a bright blue bottle, which later he realized was
probably a drain cleaning product. David poured in the bright blue substance, and soon the
mixture began to bubble and threaten to boil over. Scared, David flushed the substance down
the toilet. He promised himself he would never try something so foolish again. Although,
throughout the years David made similar vows to himself, eventually being broken shortly after
the vow was made. Key Idea II June 26, 1995, was not a typical day for Dottie Pease. As she

Layoff Case
For management team or an organization layoff is never easy especially if they are good workers.
Nonetheless, sometimes it comes unexpected and the company is beginning to go downhill, as
well, cost is becoming a factor. Manager now must determine the hardest decision ever of who they
must let go and who they would keep during this process of saving cost for the company. In
preparation for this managementteam must come together in addressing to those employees why
they reach the decision, provide solid explanation and have concrete facts to support those
decisions. Questions will surely be asked why them or why not transfer them to a different
department, managers must be able to address those question with absolutely no problem. Meaning,
all their ducks need to be to eliminate any outburst from those employees that is being laid off.
Propose three (3) ways that a manager can cope with any negative emotions that may accompany an
employee layoff.
Managers have several ways they can cope and accompany an employee negative emotion to
layoff but the top 3 that would be very productive for managers to use includes: 1). Often and
Widely Communication; This will/can eliminate negative emotions from employees that has been

Causes and Treatments of Peptic Ulcer Disease
A peptic ulcer can be defined as an excavation that forms in the mucosal wall of the stomach, in
the pylorus, in the duodenum, or in the esophagus (Brunner, Suddarth and Smeltzer, 2008).
According to Fromm, (2009) Helobactor pylori is a gram negative bacteria that is the cause of
most peptic ulcer disease and is considered a primary risk factor in the development of gastic
cancer (pg. 394). Other causes include stress, and excessive secrtion of Hydrochloric acid in the
stomach. Transmission of H. pylori according to Gurney, Carvalho, Gonzalez, Galaviz Sonstein
(2014) states there is strong research supporting that H. pylori can be spread person to person
through direct contact with saliva, vomit, or fecal matter (pg. 393). H. Pylori is more prevalent in
crowded areas without reliable access to clean water. Other risk factors include poor hygiene,
smoking, and close living conditions with someone who is infected with H. pylori. Symptoms of an
ulcer include a burning sensation in the stomach and esophagus, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation
and bleeding. Treatment of Peptic UlcerDisease includes antibiotics to eradicate H. pylori bacteria;
proton pump inhibitors are used to treat NSAID induced ulcers and other ulcers not associated with
the bacterial infection, smoking cessation and dietary modifications. Surgical management is
recommended for ulcers that fail to heal after 12 16 months of treatments and the procedures
include pyloroplasy, anrectomy or vagotomy.

Austin Fisher The Three Sides To My Coming Out Analysis
Coming Out Assignment Published by the Huffington Post, 20 year old Austin Fisher voices his
process of coming out in his article entitled The 3 Sides to my Coming Out Story . I choose to
analyze and reflect on this text for I believe it displays various situations and perceptions in
response to one coming out. The author starts by explaining how he came to terms with himself.
When Fisher was younger he idolized his brother s bravery for announcing his homosexualityto the
world. This planted a seed in Fisher s mind that would not seem to stop growing. Though deep
down he knew he was gay, he was not ready to admit it to himself or the outside world. Instead,
Fisher suppressed his gay side and reinvented himself. He got a girlfriend and views coming out as
overrated, for Fisher views it as unfair and unjust that because of his inherently wrong sexualtity he
has to go through an emotional process of explaining who he is attracted to the people he loves....

His parents were less than accepting, for they viewed it as a choice that they should have been
consulted on. Though, eventually they did research on the matter and came to terms with their
son s sexuality. Fisher s peers seemed to have no opinion on the matter. Although he never
publicly announced his sexuality to his class, he told some friends and word got around and he
was not treated differently. While reading this I could not help but wonder if this was because
he was in a relationship with a girl, for hetrosexual relationships are viewed as society s norm .
Would his peers have been less receptive of his sexual preferences if he was in a same gender

Concentration Of MIBK, Ethanol And Water In The Feed And...
In this experiment the concentrations of MIBK, ethanol and water in the Feed, Extract and
Raffinate streams were determined at Steady State, which would then be used with the equilibrium
data provided to calculate the theoretical number of stages required for separation. Once Steady
State was achieved, the components water, ethanoland MIBK reached consistent mole percent
(mol%) values of 85.48 %, 13.15 % and 1.37 % respectively for the Extract Stream. Conversely, the
Raffinate Stream was had water, ethanol and MIBK mol% values of 12.84 %, 4.75 % and 82.41 %
respectively.
As per the sample calculations in Appendix C, the Karr Reciprocating Plate Column effectively
extracted 90.24 % of the ethanol from the Feed stream into the Extract stream. As was expected, the
agitation aided in the separation process considering more surface area was made available for
interface interaction with smaller droplets.
Calculation of the number of equilibrium stages required, had to be done using a Ternary Diagram
(Figure 4). Equilibrium data was provided that could be plotted (Table A3); however, an average of
the component mol% for the Raffinate, Extract Feed and Solvent streams had to be determined.
This required the conversion the experimental data of the normalized volume percent (vol%) in
Table A1 into mol% values, so the data points could be plotted on the Ternary Triangular Diagram.
Conversion from vol% to mol% was done by through consideration of the components respective

Juxtaposition In The Moth
The moth s insignificant being is described through Wolf s usage of juxtaposition and
personification. She begins by mentioning the moth s value and inducts its surroundings. watching
him, it seemed as if a fibre, very thin but pure, of the enormous energy of the world had been thrust
into his frail body and diminutive body (2).The use of juxtaposition compares how little the moth is
to his surroundings. The energy is depicted as thin yet enormous and when thrusted into the moth s
body it differentiate the difference between the two. The contrast idea about the energy hints the
size of the moth and further supporting the idea that the moth is a paltry being. The moth s nature

Civil War Amputations Essay
Amputations were very common during the civil war because there were no antibiotics and
infection was very common. Many things could result in amputations including gunshot wounds,
infections, multiple breaks in a bone, injury, etc. Chloroform was used to sedate patients before
surgery for an amputation. Most amputees would not go back into battle. Over 75% of the
amputees survived surgery, which was a lot considering that medical knowledge wasn t that
advanced since America had a mindset of warover medicine, at the time. Also, since there were so
many amputations and almost all of the surgeons could do them, doctors were nicknamed sawbones

This pamphlet was a guide for a surgeon to perform an amputation. As most surgeons had very little

How Did The Fidel Castro Influence The Cuban Revolution
Even though Fidel Castro s well known mutinous and seditious ascend to power impacted the
1960s, the seeds of the Cuban Revolution and his rise to authority were planted during the 1950s.
Dreadful conditions in Cuba became widespread and existent during the 50s when, Fulgencio
Batista, an oppressive dictator, a leader who uses force and terror to maintain control, ruled Cuba(
Castro, Fidel 82 91). According to professor Marjorie Cohn, Batista came to power illegally in 1952

felt oppressed. However, even though most Cuban citizens despised him, Batista... Show more

Despite of Castro s main diplomatic goal to break off ties with the U.S., he did not hesitate to be
supported by the Soviet Union. More specifically, the online article, Fidel Castro Biography,
says that Cuba depended on the U.S.S.R. to help it s national defense, as well as to trade and
buy oil. In addition, Cuba depended on the Soviet Union to help improve its citizens standard of
living, as well as trade of firearms ( Fidel Castro ). However, relations did not remain simple
forever. In 1962, Castro secretly welcomed Soviet Union tomahawk missiles on Cuban grounds,
just off the coast of Florida in order to prevent another U.S. attack, and in response to U.S.

after a scary 13 day confrontation between the countries, Nikita Khrushchev, leader of the Soviet
Union, negotiated with the U.S. and removed nuclear armed Soviet missiles from Cuba in
exchange for U.S. withdrawal of its current missiles in Turkey and Italy, and to no longer attempt
to overthrow Castro ( Fidel Castro ). The crisis not only impacted the 1960s era by provoking fear
among people all over the world, but it also forever changed the testing of nuclear warfare in the
years to come. Through its friendly yet

have always enjoyed the thought of artificial intelligence of a machine being able to think and
act on its own. It s a popular theme for novels and movies too. And who of us wouldn t love to
have a personal robot to anticipate our needs and take care of them? I even remember a production
from the local planetarium about computers worldwide that networked and synergized their data.
At the end of the production this networked computer system commanded, Let there be light! and
a new universe was born. Artificial intelligence has as many definitions as people defining it. For
some it is only a matter of a machine being able to analyze data and then take an appropriate

come up with original ideas that it can act like a person and be indistinguishable from a human

Parasite-Host Relationships
Organisms in an ecosystem have relationships with individuals of their own species, individuals of
different species, and non living resources. A group of different species living within an ecosystem
is called a community. The relationships within a community of organisms can be grouped into
different types of interactions, including predator prey relationships and symbiotic relationships.
An animal that hunts and eats other animals is called a predator. The animal that gets eaten is
called a prey animal. Predator prey relationships involve both adaptations of the predator to catch
the prey and adaptations of the prey to avoid the predator. Population sizes are also connected to this
relationship. When a prey population changes, the predator ... Show more content on

These are relationships in which individuals live close to each other for extended periods of time.
In a parasite host relationship, one organism benefits at the expense of the other organism.
Typically, the host organism is not killed by the parasite. A tick attaching itself to a deeris an
example of a parasite host relationship. The tick is the parasite, and the deer is the host.
In symbiotic mutualism, the two organisms benefit each other. A good example is the relationship
between some ants and acacia trees. Acacia trees have large thorns that the ants can hollow out and
live inside. The trees also excrete sweet nectar that feeds the resident ants. In return, the ants benefit
the acacia tree by attacking any insects that attempt to eat the tree.
Commensalism refers to a relationship in which one organism benefits and the other organism is
not significantly affected. The relationship between cattle and birds called cattle egrets is a good
example of commensalism. As cattle graze in grasslands, they disturb many insects that hide among
the grasses. Egrets follow the cattle and eat the insects that are disturbed by the grazing cattle. The
egrets benefit, but the cattle are not significantly affected by this

Allusions In Cry The Beloved Country
Cry, the Beloved Country is a novel written by Alan Paton; the novel is filled with biblical
allusions referring to II Samuel. Cry, the Beloved Country was first published in 1948 and
stands as the single most important novel in twentieth century South African literature. Cry, the
Beloved Country; a work of blazing artistry, is the intensely moving story of the Zulu pastor
Stephen Kumalo and his son Absalom, and how they were set against the background of a land
and a people divided by racial injustice. Cry, the Beloved Country is a classic work of love and
hope, courage and endurance, born of the dignity of man. The author, Alan Paton parallels II
Samuel and Cry, the Beloved Country which heightens the understanding of the novel. In the
paralleled biblical story Absalom is described as handsome, therefore not a single blemish
appears on his skin; he wears his hair short and altogether it weighs more than two pounds.
Tamar, who is the parallel of Gertrude is described as very attractive and she wears a long sleeved
gown; as often worn by virgin princesses. Now Absalom, Davids son, had a beautiful sister, whose
name was Tamar. ( 2 Samuel 13 N.P.) Nevertheless, their attractiveness does not impede their

Differences in Crime Statistics in the Uniform Crime...
Arguments over crime statistics have been raging ever since governments began counting criminal
activity. In 1930 the United States congress authorized the attorney general of the United States to
survey crime in America. The Federal Bureau of Investigation was chosen to implement the
program. (Schmalleger p.38)
The Uniform Crime Reports is the survey taken by the FBI. This measure of crime in America
depends on reports to the police by victims of crimes. The UCR Program was developed by the
FBI for the purpose of serving law enforcement as a tool for operational and administrative
purposes. Through the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the UCR Program
was developed. Later, the National Sheriffs Association... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Arson is an exception to the Hierarchy Rule . One of the problems with the Uniform Crime
Reports is that many citizens do not always make official reports. For example, many women
refuse to report rapes because they do not want to relive the ordeal. Some citizen s feel that the
police will not be able to do anything about a crime committed against them therefore they do not
report it. Another problem with the Uniform Crime Reports is that Victimless crimes are rarely
reported. These are crimes like prostitution, gambling, and drug use. Since many of these crimes are
not reported, then the UCR becomes somewhat vague and incomplete.
When reviewing crime data, it is important for the reader to note the difference between offenses
and arrests. Offenses relate to events and arrests relate to persons. A single offense may involve no
arrestees; may involve one arrestee; or may involve many arrestees. National Crime Victimization

year, data are obtained from a nationally representative sample of roughly 49,000 households

victimization in the United States. The survey reports the likelihood of victimization by rape,

Low Voter Turnout
Our American Government text mentions 7 different reasons for exceptionally low voter turnout in
the United States. These reasons range from not having mandatory elections to when the elections
are held, but there are two reasons that I find to be the most influential.
Voting used to be something special; a privilege. Now, electionsare held so frequently that they no
longer have that allure to them. That combined with the feeling that your vote won t change the
overall outcome causes for more potential voters to avoid the polls.
The second reason that I find to be highly influential is pre registration. I don t think that this should
change, however it can be difficult to find the time and means to register for an election. This

Themes Of The Four Quartets
Manganiello focuses on the interplay between Dante and Eliot manifested in their use of the
Incarnation. Drawing on the intent search of the confused speaker of The Waste Land, Manganiello
proposes that the Four Quartets answers the search for the essential word with Logos. The
epigraphs for Burnt Norton, the opening quartet, center around Logos and the intersections of time.
Manganiello fleshes out Eliot s exploration of time and eternity through the lens of the Incarnation.
The Incarnation is, of course, the meeting of divinity and humanity, of time and timelessness, of
Logos and flesh. Drawing on Dante s comparison of God to both a circle and a point the eternal
and the temporal Manganiello begins utilizing images from the Divine Comedy, specifically the
Paradiso, to provide a deeper understanding of Eliot s themes in the Four Quartets. Focusing
specifically on Burnt Norton, Manganiello narrows in on the rose garden, examining the primal
memories of both an earthly and supra terrestrial paradise of bliss it triggers. He eventually
concludes that, Eliot, like Dante, invites the reader to cross over from the human to the divine,
from time to eternity (111). Switching his focus to the intersection of time and eternity in the
Incarnation, Manganiello discusses an article Eliot translated for the Criterion entitled On Reading
Einstein . The article, written by Charles Mauron, argues that Einstein s theory of relativity does not

The Music Industry Became Aware Of Napster After John...
In June of 1999 Shawn Fanning, John Fanning, and Sean Parker created an independent peer to
peer file sharing website called Napster, Named after John Fanning s high school nickname. A
peer to peer (P2P) service allows access to media files like movies, music, books and games by
using a certain program that connects to other computers on the same network, meaning that when
someone downloaded a file it was coming directly from another person s computer. The website
was specifically designed to transfer MP3 files with a search engine dedicated to retrieving MP3
files only, and a chat service which allowed users to communicate with each other while using this
system (Tyson). At its prime, Napsterwas home to about 80 million users (Gowan). The issue with
Napster was that it wasn t properly licensed to distribute the files and it allowed its users
unlimited free access to other individual s intellectual property without their consent. The music
industry became aware of Napster when the heavy metal band, Metallica discovered that an
unreleased version of one of their songs was circling the internet. Metallica sued Napster,
providing evidence that over 300 thousand people had exchanged their work without the approval
of the band or the record label, and that Napster contributed to their infringements (Vaver). Napster
s main defense against the lawsuit was the Audio Home Recording Act of 1992. What this law

We Real Cool Poem Summary
Mortality is the state of being subject to death. For centuries, authors have been pondering the
answer to the question why does someone have to die and could they escape death. In Colette
Inez s poem, Back When All Was Continuous Chuckles , the speaker and Doris have a very
humorous view on death before a tragic event occurs that enlightens the pair to reality. The poem,
We Real Cool by Gwendolyn Brooks, is about a group of pool players that describes their actions
which will lead to severe suspected consequences. In the poems, Back When All Was Continuous
Chuckles by Colette Inez and We Real Cool by Gwendolyn Brooks, reflects a theme of mortality

Colette Inez uses diction to aid in developing the tone to cause a surprising emotion from the
reader. The author uses words that are carefree and almost playful, such as silly , freaky and har har
to contrast what is really occurring during the poem. It is not until the last stanza that the author
depicts a depressing and somber mood that catches the readers off guard. This showcases that the
realization that everyone is subject to death is unexpected and unpredictable. However,
Gwendolyn Brooks uses diction to add a sense of identity by using the word we instead of I, he,
or she. This particular example of diction creates a group of individuals that are defined by their
rebellious action and are at odds with society. The group identity delays or cripples the awareness
of mortality and increases the strength of the belief in immortality. The authors utilization of
diction is not the only major contrast there is in these two poems there is also the difference in the

God and Man in Homer s Iliad, Virgil s Aeneid, and Dante s Inferno
The truest of man s goals is to create art. Art is a by product of the gift of man over the animals,
creativity. Truly, creativity is a replication of God in man and a very possible interpretation of
the Genesis 1:27 phrase in his own image, along with others the possession of an immortal soul or
the ability to speak. And creativity s ultimate end product is art. And art more often than not in the
history of man has led man to pay homage to his creator. Three of the classic literary artistic works
of mankind, Homer s Iliad, Virgil s Aeneid, and Dante s Inferno, feature if not focus on the deity or

When Mercury delivers a message to Aeneas, he does not simply arrive, as Homer would have
written it. He jumps and flies and soars over many important places, with great and interesting
detail of his every twist and turn on his journey (Aen. 4.310 337). This illustrates not only the
further development of writing over Homer, but also possibly the Roman audience s lesser
belief in such gods, as they can t simply be to be believable. Lastly, sharply contrasting the earlier
two, is Inferno and the almost complete lack of God as a character. Instead of acting like the
father figure of the Old Testament, God in Inferno acts as he does in the New Testament, as a
being so mighty that he cannot be a character. He is present, but only through providence in the
first canto, Dante becoming lost in the Dark Wood of Error and finding Virgil helps him to return
to the True Way or messengers Beatrice (scattered throughout) or the angel that opens the gates of
Dis (Inf. 8.125 9.100). And as Virgil s over presentation of the gods shows his audience s lack of
faith, the nigh complete absence of God shows the extreme faith of Dante s audience: Christians
who for the most part claim to have never seen God working directly with miracles (and, of course,
the Judeo Christian concept of God being more abstract than the Greek or Roman mythic
anthropomorphism).

A Telephone Call Dorothy Parker Analysis
A Telephone Call by Dorothy Parker Dorothy Parker was born in 1893 at her parents summer
home in New Jersey. Unfortunately, her childhood was very rough. Her mother and her step
mother died when Parker was still a child. She attended a Catholic grammar school, but ended
her formal education by the time she was fourteen years of age. In her late teenage years another
catastrophe hit, her uncle was on the notorious Titanic ship that sunk and he did not make it.
Parker s series of unfortunate events did not finish, her father passed away a year later. Parker sold
her first poem to Vanity Fair and her first collection of poetry Enough Rope was published in 1926
and became a best seller. She later worker for Vogue when she was twenty two years old. She wrote
poems for newspapers and magazines while she worked for Vogue, however she joined Vanity Fair
to work as a drama critic later on. The same year she became a drama critic, she married a
stockbroker which lasted about ten years (Poets.org). Her marriage, however, was quite turbulent
and rocky. As an adult, Parker suffered severe depression and alcoholism. These issues led her to
several suicide attempts that she thankfully survived. After her failed first marriage, she married
an actor writer in 1934. This marriage lasted for thirteen years before both sides decided to divorce,
but they remarried three years later. As if Parker had enough tragedies in her life, her husband

The Resurrection Of Jesus Was A Literal, Historical Event
For thousands of years, man has wondered about life and death. Questions such as What is there
after death? and Do I have a purpose on this planet? have plagued countless people. When looking at
the statement in question, It is not necessary for Christian faith to believe that the resurrection of
Jesuswas a literal, historical event. , one must remember that in the minds of Christians, not only
is it a comfort that there is something after death, but also an answer to both of the previous
questions; yes, there is life after death and; yes, the purpose is to follow the Christian belief and
eventually spend eternity in heaven with God after death. I ask you to keep this in mind when
reading the rest of this essay, for man s fear of death is complex and ongoing.
The biggest problems and the four components of the resurrection
There are four components to the resurrection; the appearances after death, the verb to be , the
empty tomb and the passages in the bible. All of these components have meaning to them, however
with this meaning comes problems. For example, the verb to be in the quote he is risen (Matthew
28:6) is a historical present, however the problem is that the verb may have been changed during
translation over the past two thousand years causing doubt in its literal meaning. This links to
another component, literature; when looking at Christianity s belief in the resurrection of Jesus, the
bible is our main source. Just like the verb to be , some of the

The Problem Of Hip Hop Music
In the past 2 years alone, more than 3 dozen criminal prosecutions have had rap lyrics be
presented by the prosecutor as a vital piece of evidence in the case. [Manly] In many of these
cases the prosecutor will use violent lyrics created by the defendant to prove that that person is
inherently dangerous and in other cases, will use the lyrics as a direct confession to having
committed the crimein question. If you read into these cases you will notice a common theme
between them; the defense will claim that the lyrics are freedom of speech and should be
considered artistic expression, while the prosecutors will claim that the song is either a criminal
threat or has too many similarities to the actual crime that it should be considered a confession.
The primary basis for this debate is that hip hop music is a misunderstood cultural practice
because of the racial divide between the defendant and the criminal justice system. The
precedent for using rap lyrics as evidence can be traced as far back as 1994 in California, when
they were used to prove that Francisco Calderon Mora was a member of the Southside F Troop
gang. The prosecutor went on to say that since he was a member of the gang, Mora has the motive
and intent to commit the killing he was tried for. [O Connor] Since this case many prosecutors
through the years have started using lyrics as critical pieces of evidence in these types of trials.
Often using these pieces as evidence is unfair to the defendant because they

Developing Project Objectives
Proposals should include both goals and objectives. Goals provide an overall philosophy, a
concise statement to the purpose of the whole project. Objectives relate directly to the goals and
say what you are going to do, but not how you are going to accomplish your goals. The Methods
or Procedures section describes how. A well considered project will have one to three main goals,
several objectives related to each goal and many action steps to take to achieve each objective.
Objectives discuss who is going to do what, when they will do it and how it will be measured. For

At the end of the three day training session (when), workshop participants (who) will infuse
quantitative reasoning into one course (what) as determined by a survey distributed and reviewed

Objectives discuss the desired end results of the project, not how those results will be
accomplished. For example, an objective would not be to construct a new Art Gallery. That is a

Project financing discipline includes understanding the rationale for project financing, preparation
of the financial plan, assessment of the risks, designing the financing mix, and raising the funds. In
addition, one must understand the cogent analyses of why some project financing plans have
succeeded while others have failed. A knowledge base is required regarding the design of
contractual arrangements to support project financing; issues like the host of legislative provisions,
government and administrative constrains, public and private infrastructure partnerships, public
and private financing structures; credit requirements of lenders, how to determine the project s
borrowing capacity; how to prepare cash flow projections and use them to measure expected rates of

The Ladder Of Divine Ascent, By St. John Climacus Essay
Religion is a personal belief or faith in God or different Gods. The different perspectives of
seeing God has been a controversy for centuries. Different religions and doctrines have had a great
impact in our society. Many have suffered for various ways to worship God. Others are still
wondering what to believe in, while important philosophers have their own conclusions over what
religion consists of. Therefore, Christians have their faith and hope in the Godwho sent his only
child to die for our sins. Good and evilexist and we observe it on a daily basis. Religion takes
obedience which is shown in the painting The Ladder of Divine Ascent, by St. John Climacus
illustrating the idea that people knew what is right and wrong when following God but for some
it was hard to obey Him. I chose my topic on Mandates of Heaven by Lapham s Quarterly
because it is a compelling topic for our ancestors and for these current times. Throughout my
analysis I will state why I feel that the overall issue will continue to go unsolved unless one puts a
practice to the test by building a relationship with God.
In the preamble Mandates of Heaven Lapham is trying to level out the field by presenting to us
the various beliefs of people who have their own thoughts of the identity of God. Many think God
is dead because some do not or simply cannot physically prove Jesus exists and has risen from the
dead on the third day. However, the central focus of this essay revolves around the thought of how

mostly drama, so I found the music to be a combination of intense, dramatic, and suspenseful.
I completely felt like I was viewing the time period being shown in the movie. The costumes
were great, and fit everyone s role perfectly. The costumes for the Gladiators included armor and
the cape, a helmet, a sword, and a shield. This is all the equipment needed for a Gladiator to

Common Infection Among Women During Child Bearing Period
Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) is a common infection among women, it can affect up to 75% of
women during child bearing period. VVC usually associated with considerable morbidity;
symptoms include intense pruritus, vaginal discharge and dyspareunia. Many factors have been
identified to predispose to such condition such as oral contraceptive pills, pregnancy, uncontrolled
diabetes mellitus and long term broad spectrum antibiotic (Cassone, 2015, Falagas et al., 2006).
Beyond the normal host, the range of patients at risk for invasive candidiasisexpand to patients with
acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, those immunosuppressed due to cancer therapy and organ
transplantation (Bassyouni et al., 2015a).
Recurrent VVC (RVVC) is a more serious condition due to recurrences of symptoms ( 4/year) and
refraction to successful treatment. Long term fluconazole therapy may help in delaying the
recurrences but does not result in a long lasting cure (Sobel et al., 2004). Maintenance and
preventive therapy is essential for six months but, patients may need to stay on medication for a
longer period (Ringdahl, 2000).
Recent epidemiological studies founded the prevalence of RVVC higher than that reported
previously as the recurrence rate about 7 8% of women who experience a first episode and the
discomfort associated with RVVC is intense which markedly affects the quality of life of young
women with a strong negative impact on work and social life (Cassone, 2015).

My School For High School
Years have passed and now I have reached Junior High School. I should be happy because of my
smartness ; I was chosen to go to a special school for student enrichment. However, I am not
happy because the school my mother selected for me is far away from the neighbor, and the
school district where I lived had just built a brand new school within walking distance from my
home; most of my friends are attending there, and I could not understand why my mother chose
to send me across town. However, my mother enrolled me in a different district, which meant I
had to travel either by city bus or walk. The bus trip would take about an hour and the walk was
at least 10 15 miles. My mother had this brainy idea to enroll me in this school for enrichment;
somehow this was supposed to be good for me. It didn t make sense, nor did I care to share her
enthusiasm of starting over in a new learning environment. I was thrust out my comfort zone and
probably would not have protested as much if the change wasn t so drastic. It ll become clearer
what I mean by this. The first day of school was filled with the normal awkwardness; however, it
was also permeated with amplified anxiety as I realize this school was not in a great
neighborhood. Some would call this the hood. I thought I was attending a school for smart people.

Thought and Language: independent processes.
With the passing of time, the development of thought and language has been the object of study for
psychologists such as Jean Piaget and Lev Vygotsky. The former drastically influenced the study of
thought and speech with his theory of cognitive development and his clinical method. The latter
also made his contribution with his sociocultural theory. Although language and thought may be
analysed as associate one to the other, both of them may be considered as independent and dynamic
processes which belong to different roots. Considering the book Thought and Language by Lev
Vygotsky, it might be possible to debunk the fundamental concepts of Piaget and Vygotsky s
theories and to expand on their main differences.
As regards language, Piaget and Vygotsky coincided on the inkling that the development of
language is an intricate interaction between a child and the environment. Both psychologists opined
that when a child accomplishes the development of language, a system of symbols is created in
order to help them comprehend the world. Nevertheless, they did not agree on how language and
thought may interact in the development of a child. According to Jean Piaget, the cognitive
development of a child activates the growth of language. Basically, that means that thought is going
to appear before language. Besides, it might be claimed that cognitive development

Minnesota, announced on March 2010 that there was a security breach in their establishment.
Student loan borrowers had their personal information (names, social security numbers,
addresses, and dates of birth at a minimum) stolen off of the premises via portable media . In the
article, Data Theft Hits 3.3 Million Borrowers, Pilon noted that this is believed to be the largest
data breach of its kind and could affect as many as 5% of all federal student loan borrowers (Para.
1). As a precaution, ECMC made arrangements with Experian, the credit protection agency, to
provide credit monitoring services to borrowers affected by the data breach. In... Show more content

Employees should be properly trained to understand and follow the company s security policies.
According to Romney, training is especially needed to educate employees about social
engineering attacks, which use deception to obtain unauthorized access to information resources
(pp.261). Proper training of employees could have prevented the breach as well. Assuming that
an outsider was the thief, I believe it would have been obvious that he/she was not wearing an
ID badge or would have been aware of piggybacking, for example (pp. 261). Lastly, physical
access controls are those that refrain entry into an area that may contain sensitive information.
According to the text, this control is essential to achieve any degree of information security .
There are a wide range of potential threats that an intruder that is left unsupervised can cause an
organization such as copying files with a portable device or as daring as stealing the computer
itself (Romney, 2009, pp. 262). Physical access controls had to have been lacking at ECMC. As
Romney states, physical access control begins with entry points to the building itself so assuming
the data was taken by an outsider, if physical access controls would have been placed the breach
would have been prevented (pp. 262). After researching the situation at ECMC, I failed to locate
details about the perpetrator. It was revealed that they notified law enforcement

Sex Sells Video Games and Insecurity
As I continued on to the next level, I encountered an elderly bee, who had one last dying wish A
wish that I would soon fulfill. Oh, sweet pollination. It is the only way to make honey, and the
only way for me to move on to the next level. I must help him. However, the elderly bee only
wanted to pollinate one specific flower, the sunflower with the big breasts. The sunflower was
unwilling to corporate. Then, as I walked away, I encountered a swarm of bees, who only had
one objective, to tickle. A lit light bulb then appeared above my head. I had an epiphany. I
gathered all of the tickling bees, and forced them to tickle the sunflower with the big breasts, thus
exposing her breast, and allowing the elderly bee to pollinate her. The... Show more content on

Carrie Reinhard asserts that women do not feel comfortable playing as hypersexualized female
protagonists in video games, because the video game industry provides characters modeling a
body they cannot achieve, more an object for the male gaze than female empowerment
(Reinhard. 6). Personally, seeing the sunflower with the big breasts did not encourage me to
feel empowered. I felt weak and insecure because of the stereotypes of women that are
illuminated within video games. Video games represent women as a typical damsel in distress,
whereas men are viewed as the hero (Brenick et. al. 3). Although, providing female protagonists
in video games were supposed to appeal to more women, it subsequently discouraged women
from playing video games. Video games do not only hypersexualize women. Although, researches
have noted for years that most video games target a male audience (Ivory. 2), the
hypersexualization of men in video games has taken a toll on their players (Greenberg et al. 3).
Mass media that display hypersexualized men, and women, such as video games, not only
encourages women to become anorexic, it encourages men to take steroids, or to excessively
exercise (Barlett et al. 1). Researchers, Barlett, and Harris conducted an experiment in which both
men and women were immersed within a video game, that depicted both women and men as
hypersexualized (ibid).

The Fear Within the Boys in Lord of the Flies by William...
The thing is fear can t hurt you any more than a dream ( William Golding quotes. ). Fear lives to
haunt and torment the person to a point of destruction and can be within everyone. Although a
person is able to overcome fear, it is still very dangerous because it affects the person as well as
everyone and everything around. In the book Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the boys are all
so overwhelmed by fear that the island starts to recede into a state damaged beyond repair. In
this case, Jack s fear of not being leader originally starts to affect him, but it gradually starts to
affect Ralph, and the rest of the boys. Ralph s fear of survival brings out his inner savageness and
an innocent life is taken away. Lastly, the boys fear... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I m going to be chief (Golding 146) and no rules unlike Ralph which is very savage like. Jack
knows that the boys like to hunt so he lures them into joining his tribe by promising to hunt. What
he does not know is that hunting will make them lose reality and turn them into savages with no
morals. When Jack does everything he can to keep power, the boys lose all sense of civilization
and destroy the island, destroying themselves in the process.
Despite the fact that Jack s fear of not being chief ends badly, Ralph s fear of not surviving has
another whole level of bad endings. Ralph s main concern when the boys crash into the island is
being rescued, but because of this, he neglects other problems such as looking out for littluns.
That litte un gasped Piggy him with the mark of his face, I don t see him. Where is he now?
(Golding 46). Ralph is so blinded by the idea of being rescued that he forgets his priorities. He
should be watching the littluns, but instead, he is being selfish and cares only about the fire. As
a consequence to his poor action, an innocent life is taken away. Also when a ship comes by and
Ralph realizes that the hunters let the fire out, he loses it and he yells at Jack, but his voice was
loud and savage, and struck them into silence. There was a ship (Golding 74). This is the first
time that Ralph shows any sign of savagery, which tells the readers that evil and savageness is

Allegory Of Mrs. Dubose
Jared Crane Mid Term Essay Intro to Literature 2200 Instructor: Russell Burrows October 4,
2017 A close reading of Mrs. Henry Lafayette Dubose. Mrs. Dubose is an allegory that is found
throughout To Kill A Mocking Bird. People cannot be judged on first impressions; if we scratch
the surface we ll find that they are better or worse than first thought. They may have redeeming
qualities or skeletons in their closets. Mrs. Dubose was first seen as a grouchy, sharp tongued
racist who was steeped in traditionalism. As the story progresses she transforms into a resilient
fighter, full of courage. Scout see s Mrs. Dubose as the mean old lady up the street (39). She
refers to her age as ...close on to a hundred... (103). When Jem and Scouts fixation on Boo Radley
ended and they wanted to venture downtown, they couldn t avoid Mrs. Dubose s house anymore.
They could have walked around, but it would have added an extra mile to their trip and they had
to grow up sometime (114). Mrs. Dubose is a Southern institution down to her name. The name
Dubose has French origins, it means by or in a wood. The Name Henry is also French, but it has
noble origins. The Normans introduced the name to England and it was used by eight kings, ending
with Henry VIII. Lafayette, another French name, means birch tree and flatterer in England. It s
very ironic that a woman with the last name that

Crime And Punishment Epilogue
The epilogue of Crime and Punishment is generally misunderstood and criticized, but is in fact
quite necessary to the story. In the epilogue, the reader sees how Raskolnikov has journeyed
from a state of nihilism, where he has acted on his own beliefs and theories about life, only to
find that he was, in essence, wrong. He eventually realizes that not only has he committed a crime
in the eyes of others, but has broken his own moral code as well. The epilogue brings this all
together and in seeing the implications of what his theory truly means, Raskolnikov finds
redemption and begins to understand the need for spiritual healing. Besides this, the epilogue
serves to show of Dostoevsky s true purpose to provide a warning against Russian nihilism. The
epilogue is essential because the entire novelleads up to his resurrection and the story would be
incomplete and illogical without Raskolnikov s acceptance of God and society.... Show more

While attempting to prove his Napoleonic theory, Raskolnikov did not intend to kill a human
being, but a principle (PAGE NUMBER). The woman Raskolnikov murdered, Alyona Ivanovna,
was greatly detested by many and Raskolnikov believed by principle he could murder her if it
would benefit society. This theory however, was proven wrong as Raskolnikov was overcome
with guilt as his crime only reinforce[d] his sense that he is not a part of society ( Crime and
Punishment 77). Raskolnikov s sin isolated him even further from others and contradicted his
theory that the murder would benefit society. Raskolnikov s guilt is the knowledge that he has
done wrong and has become estranged from society and from God ( Crime and Punishment 77).
Raskolnikov recognized his failure but it is not until the epilogue that he learned how to repent his
sin and no longer be isolated from God and

Analysis Of The Story Kwanzaa And Me
Kwanzaa and Me: Analysis A. Review of the Story The story provided an excellent discussion of
the many issues that surround race in schools, it centered on the topic about whether integrated
schools were more beneficial than segregated schools. This book focuses on young children in
the early grades, listening to parents and racial integration. The author wanted to find the truth
that is surrounding multicultural classrooms from those that are involved in it. This book
includes many side stories, which serve to explore the concepts, and displays them in a clear
way; it also added depth to the book. This book was well written and shows all sides of
multicultural education. It does not take one side in particular and it encourages people to
explore multicultural education in a new light. B. What impact did this story have on you? This
story has affected me in a few ways. One of the ways was how children think and see the world.
One of the ways is how children see and picture racial equality. They do this in a way that many
adults are not readily capable of doing, or choose not to. From the story early on we are told of a
girl named Kesha who distinguishes beyond the socio typical distinctions of black and white,
when she states, Okay, peach with spots for you and brown without spots for me, except his one
and this one on my cheek (Paley, pg. 15). In another part in the story, the author says two children,
Jeremy and Martha, playing a game of Guess Who? Jeremey asked

Dystopia In Brave New World
Brave New World is a novel written by Aldous Leonard Huxley, in 1931. It talked about a future
world, the technology is highly developed, people are standardized, and they can feel satisfied
easily. However, there is no emotions, individuality, freedom and morality in the society. This
essay will talk about the reasons of the Brave New Worldis dystopia. Dystopia is a place where
everything is totally unpleasant or bad, it is the antonym of utopia. Brave New World described a
dystopian world, because people use soma to escape from difficulties, people in the Brave New
World are enslaved, and people do not have the abilities to think deeply.
Brave New World is a dystopia because people s satisfaction is based on soma.

other requirement was that there should be no visual evidence of his disability. According
Melhuish, the Maison Г Bordeaux is representative of shifting social and living patterns, she goes

Article Analysis Of The North Korean Missile Launch
North Korean Missile Launch
After reading the articles about the North Korean missile launch on August 29th of 2017, Both
news sources portray bias in their own particular ways but Fox news seems to side. Fox states a
quote from Trump talking about all options are on the table due to the fact that North korea just shot
a missile over Japan. He talks about how the world is getting the message from North korea is
threatening. The misle showed that it could reach Guam if it really wanted to. Where the
Washington Post states that Trump and the President of Japan spoke about how they need to put
more pressure on North Korea due to their actions. Due to the test they did it looks aggressive to
Washington, Seoul and Tokyo. The pentagon is doing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The one that used more quotes was the Washington Post which from doing some research is a
democratic source. Which is why I think they used more quotes on what Trump had to say about
the situation to make it seem worse than it really was. Where Fox just got right to the point of what
was going on about the missile launch.
One thing that I noticed that was really strange about both articles were how similar the title and
the start of the articles were to each other. The titles are almost the exact same the word choice is
used a little differently but very similar. As for the start of each article they both start off with
the exact same line with President Trump said Tuesday that all options are on the table . Then
briefly after that get into the main subject of their stories. The washington post provided a
picture of trump right at the top of the article as well as a video of trump talking about the event
and a video of the missile being launched by north korea. Where Fox only provided one video of
just 2 males talking about the event. All of these are very different from each other and both are
setting different tones and giving setting a bias tone in my opinion.
The articles both had very different sources on where they got their information for the article. Fox
news claims that the associated press contributed to the report. Where on the other hand the
Washington Post got there sources

  • 2. Every museum has an object that has a story to tell to the... Every museum has an object that has a story to tell to the visitors. Collecting institutions will often spend more time, energy, and money caring for the objects that visitors do not see than the institutions spend on the public exhibits. (Moses, 1) These objects, whether displayed in exhibits or in storage hidden from the public view, are instilled with meaning, as the objects tell us who we are as individuals and as a society and connect us with our past. (Moses, 2) However, while collecting institutions, whether big or small, can present and collect objects that resemble and define who we are as a society, institutions will constantly face internal and external struggles that will define how an institution not only presents the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nancy Moses main argument is that each collecting institution must continually struggle to remain relevant to the local community. In the first chapter, Nancy Moses discusses the Audubon birds at the Academy of Natural Science in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She describes the Academy s struggles, which centers around its appearance to the public as a natural science museum, when it is actually a research center with a museum attached to the center. The museum includes dated exhibits that show considerable neglect. (Moses, 21) The Academy was able to safely store the Audubon birds and other objects, but the Academy was unable to successfully maintain and preserve the objects financially. This led to the Academy s second problem. The Academy had chronic and escalating problems with money because none of the three divisions within the Academy generated enough money to support their work. (Moses, 22) To combat the financial problem, the Academy s board voted to sell more than 15,000 of their minerals and gems that had never been previously displayed, and use the proceeds to support their library. (Moses, 22) The Academy wanted to continue to remain a research center and believed that by selling their objects, they were meeting the needs and wants of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Schools As Organisations Know the structure of education from early years to post compulsory education Task 1 An education provides people not only with the academic skills required, but also the social skills such as having the self confidence and belief in ones self to achieve a fulfilling and happy life. It is every child s human right to receive such an education from early years to higher, and therefore several stages in which they must travel for this to happen. Early Years Education The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a structure in place for the learning and development of children from birth to five years old, for which all schools and early years providers must follow. The purpose of the EYFS is to allow... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The funding mainly comes from school fees and income from investments, gifts and charities. The building and land is owned by the governing body, and as many of these schools have charitable status they would be tax exempt. They will set their own admission policy and curriculum through the governing body and head teacher. (L/O 1.2) Academies Initially a school had to source funding of ВЈ2 million from businesses, charities or faith bodies to become an academy, however this requirement changed in 2010. The Government decided to allow any school within England the chance to achieve academy status with the involvement of the local community. An academy is obliged to follow the National Curriculum, but has certain freedom around its delivery. Its funding comes from central government rather than the LEA, which would be at the same level per pupil as a maintained school. This allows the academy to choose how their budget is spent in a way that s most beneficial to its students. (L/O 1.2) Key Stages and Areas of Study As previously mentioned, children from the age of 5 to 16 who are educated in a maintained school must be taught the National Curriculum. This sets out the key stages and core subjects they will follow throughout their time at school. Within this framework, schools can plan and organise the way they teach to best meet the needs of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The city is vulnerable to various kinds of routine emergencies that can be handled with confidence. What Central City needs to prepare for are novelties. The wave of hurricanes that hit the region this fall should be a wakeup call for the city to be ready for all types of crises. The IMS needs to be the foundation for Central Cityemergency response. This will require a lot of hard work and preparation. It s the mayor s responsibility towards the citizens of this city to have an effective emergency response system that can handle all scales of emergencies to achieve the best results. IMS provides a comprehensive systematic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To do so, the mayor needs to lead the efforts to overcome cognitive biases between emergency leaders and stress the fact that this is a collective learning process that requires group effort, inputs and buy in from all agencies. This important factor will eliminate redundancy, waste of resources and interoperability between forces which is crucial to effectiveness. The third step is effectively managing and sharing resources that are critical to all jurisdictions. Mutual aid arrangements need to be in place to access facilities, services, and support from other jurisdictions throughout the incident. A resource managementsystem should be established for describing, inventorying, requesting, tracking, activating and dispatching resources. This will also help in financial tracking, reimbursement, and reporting. The fourth step is for the city to employ a unified command to establish connection between deployed responders. This will enhance collaboration between several functional teams like police and fire departments and will build consensus between them. The fifth and most important step of implementing the IMS is to develop an ongoing maintenance plan. The previous four steps can be reviewed periodically and will always have room for improvement. • 6. Various Types Of Occupational Fraud Types of Fraud The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners displays what is known as the Fraud Tree. It is a representation of the three major types of occupational fraud (www.acfe.com). Occupational fraud is any scheme that involves employees taking cash, resources, or misapplies assets of the business for their personal gain (www.smartceo.com). Type I: Corruption Corruption is an intentional, dishonest act where an employee abuses their position in the company for personal gain (www.curtin.edu.au). It can take many forms. Bribery is a form of corruption. This is receiving or paying for illegal advantages. An example of bribery is a company official paying a public official to gain advantage over competitors. Embezzlement is another form of corruption. This is when someone has legal access, but not ownership of assets, that steals them for personal gain. For example, the treasurer of the local PTA may decide to take PTA funds to buy her daughter s prom dress. Conflict of interest is another form of corruption. If the purchasing manager sits on the board of his wife s company and then awards contracts to her company, that is a conflict of interest. Type II: Asset Misappropriation This is the most common form of occupational fraud and accounts for over 85% of fraud cases. It also usually has the lowest cost of loss. Asset misappropriation is the intentional, illegal use of the company s assets for one s personal use (Mohlenhoff Uhl, 2014). An example would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. What Is Teenage Curfew Persuasive Essay Many young teenagers enjoy living life on the edge; they often think or see themselves as fully grown adults, capable of making their own decisions, and having the freedom that comes with it. But more often than not, teenagers are not fully able to grasp the sense of maturity and consequence in every day life, much less out in the real world. In order to keep them safe and away from harm, a curfew is a perfect wall for teens to stay behind. Everyone remembers that, at least once as a child, they have dreamt of having the freedom, will, and maturity that their parent or guardian possesses. Even today, children often pretend to be a business man or president; someone that they hope to be when they get older. True, teenagers are closer to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Teenagers are often seen as reckless and immature, rather than having the calm and collected composure that an adult is seen with. This immaturity can sometimes be so high, they simply refuse to take the fall for the decisions they made; some fail to realize that, in real life, everyone must take the good with the bad, not solely claim the benefits. This fragile flaw can very much prove fatal, so a curfew can very much save young citizens from themselves. Many television shows and movies are known to give a young character an episode or scene about him or her, and it often runs down the same road; the child or teen does something reckless or idiotic, they try extremely hard to fix it (but it often makes things worse), and when they fail, they must face the consequences. A well known example is from the hit Cartoon Network show The Amazing world or Gumball, where the main character Gumball causes trouble with little or no intention. In one specific episode, Gumball accidentally damages a rented DVD, and when he tries to fix it, he ends up breaking it. This may seem like a silly show, but there is one big comparison between his actions and real life: In every episode, such as the DVD episode, he is forced to face the ... In the Radioactive Boy Scout, veteran journalist Ken Silverstein recreates in brilliant detail the months of David s improbable nuclear quest. Nonetheless, sometimes it comes unexpected and the company is beginning to go downhill, as well, cost is becoming a factor. Manager now must determine the hardest decision ever of who they must let go and who they would keep during this process of saving cost for the company. In preparation for this managementteam must come together in addressing to those employees why they reach the decision, provide solid explanation and have concrete facts to support those decisions. Questions will surely be asked why them or why not transfer them to a different department, managers must be able to address those question with absolutely no problem. Meaning, all their ducks need to be to eliminate any outburst from those employees that is being laid off. Causes and Treatments of Peptic Ulcer Disease A peptic ulcer can be defined as an excavation that forms in the mucosal wall of the stomach, in the pylorus, in the duodenum, or in the esophagus (Brunner, Suddarth and Smeltzer, 2008). According to Fromm, (2009) Helobactor pylori is a gram negative bacteria that is the cause of most peptic ulcer disease and is considered a primary risk factor in the development of gastic cancer (pg. 394). Other causes include stress, and excessive secrtion of Hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Transmission of H. pylori according to Gurney, Carvalho, Gonzalez, Galaviz Sonstein (2014) states there is strong research supporting that H. pylori can be spread person to person through direct contact with saliva, vomit, or fecal matter (pg. 393). H. Pylori is more prevalent in crowded areas without reliable access to clean water. Other risk factors include poor hygiene, smoking, and close living conditions with someone who is infected with H. pylori. Symptoms of an ulcer include a burning sensation in the stomach and esophagus, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation and bleeding. Treatment of Peptic UlcerDisease includes antibiotics to eradicate H. pylori bacteria; proton pump inhibitors are used to treat NSAID induced ulcers and other ulcers not associated with the bacterial infection, smoking cessation and dietary modifications. Surgical management is recommended for ulcers that fail to heal after 12 16 months of treatments and the procedures include pyloroplasy, anrectomy or vagotomy. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Austin Fisher The Three Sides To My Coming Out Analysis Coming Out Assignment Published by the Huffington Post, 20 year old Austin Fisher voices his process of coming out in his article entitled The 3 Sides to my Coming Out Story . I choose to analyze and reflect on this text for I believe it displays various situations and perceptions in response to one coming out. The author starts by explaining how he came to terms with himself. When Fisher was younger he idolized his brother s bravery for announcing his homosexualityto the world. This planted a seed in Fisher s mind that would not seem to stop growing. Though deep down he knew he was gay, he was not ready to admit it to himself or the outside world. Instead, Fisher suppressed his gay side and reinvented himself. He got a girlfriend and views coming out as overrated, for Fisher views it as unfair and unjust that because of his inherently wrong sexualtity he has to go through an emotional process of explaining who he is attracted to the people he loves.... Though, eventually they did research on the matter and came to terms with their son s sexuality. Fisher s peers seemed to have no opinion on the matter. Although he never publicly announced his sexuality to his class, he told some friends and word got around and he was not treated differently. While reading this I could not help but wonder if this was because he was in a relationship with a girl, for hetrosexual relationships are viewed as society s norm . • 12. Concentration Of MIBK, Ethanol And Water In The Feed And... In this experiment the concentrations of MIBK, ethanol and water in the Feed, Extract and Raffinate streams were determined at Steady State, which would then be used with the equilibrium data provided to calculate the theoretical number of stages required for separation. Once Steady State was achieved, the components water, ethanoland MIBK reached consistent mole percent (mol%) values of 85.48 %, 13.15 % and 1.37 % respectively for the Extract Stream. Conversely, the Raffinate Stream was had water, ethanol and MIBK mol% values of 12.84 %, 4.75 % and 82.41 % respectively. As per the sample calculations in Appendix C, the Karr Reciprocating Plate Column effectively extracted 90.24 % of the ethanol from the Feed stream into the Extract stream. As was expected, the agitation aided in the separation process considering more surface area was made available for interface interaction with smaller droplets. Calculation of the number of equilibrium stages required, had to be done using a Ternary Diagram (Figure 4). Most amputees would not go back into battle. Over 75% of the amputees survived surgery, which was a lot considering that medical knowledge wasn t that advanced since America had a mindset of warover medicine, at the time. It s a popular theme for novels and movies too. And who of us wouldn t love to have a personal robot to anticipate our needs and take care of them? I even remember a production from the local planetarium about computers worldwide that networked and synergized their data. At the end of the production this networked computer system commanded, Let there be light! and a new universe was born. Artificial intelligence has as many definitions as people defining it. For some it is only a matter of a machine being able to analyze data and then take an appropriate action. But I think for most, it means that a machine can actually think, can learn, can create, can come up with original ideas that it can act like a person and be indistinguishable from a human being in its actions and thoughts. Cry, the Beloved Country was first published in 1948 and stands as the single most important novel in twentieth century South African literature. Cry, the Beloved Country; a work of blazing artistry, is the intensely moving story of the Zulu pastor Stephen Kumalo and his son Absalom, and how they were set against the background of a land and a people divided by racial injustice. Cry, the Beloved Country is a classic work of love and hope, courage and endurance, born of the dignity of man. The author, Alan Paton parallels II Samuel and Cry, the Beloved Country which heightens the understanding of the novel. • 21. Themes Of The Four Quartets Manganiello focuses on the interplay between Dante and Eliot manifested in their use of the Incarnation. Drawing on the intent search of the confused speaker of The Waste Land, Manganiello proposes that the Four Quartets answers the search for the essential word with Logos. The epigraphs for Burnt Norton, the opening quartet, center around Logos and the intersections of time. Manganiello fleshes out Eliot s exploration of time and eternity through the lens of the Incarnation. The Incarnation is, of course, the meeting of divinity and humanity, of time and timelessness, of Logos and flesh. Drawing on Dante s comparison of God to both a circle and a point the eternal and the temporal Manganiello begins utilizing images from the Divine Comedy, specifically the Paradiso, to provide a deeper understanding of Eliot s themes in the Four Quartets. Focusing specifically on Burnt Norton, Manganiello narrows in on the rose garden, examining the primal memories of both an earthly and supra terrestrial paradise of bliss it triggers. He eventually concludes that, Eliot, like Dante, invites the reader to cross over from the human to the divine, from time to eternity (111). Switching his focus to the intersection of time and eternity in the Incarnation, Manganiello discusses an article Eliot translated for the Criterion entitled On Reading Einstein . A peer to peer (P2P) service allows access to media files like movies, music, books and games by using a certain program that connects to other computers on the same network, meaning that when someone downloaded a file it was coming directly from another person s computer. At its prime, Napsterwas home to about 80 million users (Gowan). The issue with Napster was that it wasn t properly licensed to distribute the files and it allowed its users unlimited free access to other individual s intellectual property without their consent. The music industry became aware of Napster when the heavy metal band, Metallica discovered that an unreleased version of one of their songs was circling the internet. He jumps and flies and soars over many important places, with great and interesting detail of his every twist and turn on his journey (Aen. 4.310 337). This illustrates not only the further development of writing over Homer, but also possibly the Roman audience s lesser belief in such gods, as they can t simply be to be believable. Lastly, sharply contrasting the earlier two, is Inferno and the almost complete lack of God as a character. Instead of acting like the father figure of the Old Testament, God in Inferno acts as he does in the New Testament, as a being so mighty that he cannot be a character. He is present, but only through providence in the first canto, Dante becoming lost in the Dark Wood of Error and finding Virgil helps him to return to the True Way or messengers Beatrice (scattered throughout) or the angel that opens the gates of Dis (Inf. 8.125 9.100). And as Virgil s over presentation of the gods shows his audience s lack of faith, the nigh complete absence of God shows the extreme faith of Dante s audience: Christians who for the most part claim to have never seen God working directly with miracles (and, of course, the Judeo Christian concept of God being more abstract than the Greek or Roman mythic anthropomorphism). [Manly] In many of these cases the prosecutor will use violent lyrics created by the defendant to prove that that person is inherently dangerous and in other cases, will use the lyrics as a direct confession to having committed the crimein question. If you read into these cases you will notice a common theme between them; the defense will claim that the lyrics are freedom of speech and should be considered artistic expression, while the prosecutors will claim that the song is either a criminal threat or has too many similarities to the actual crime that it should be considered a confession. The primary basis for this debate is that hip hop music is a misunderstood cultural practice because of the racial divide between the defendant and the criminal justice system. The precedent for using rap lyrics as evidence can be traced as far back as 1994 in California, when they were used to prove that Francisco Calderon Mora was a member of the Southside F Troop gang. The prosecutor went on to say that since he was a member of the gang, Mora has the motive and intent to commit the killing he was tried for. • 37. The Ladder Of Divine Ascent, By St. John Climacus Essay Religion is a personal belief or faith in God or different Gods. The different perspectives of seeing God has been a controversy for centuries. Different religions and doctrines have had a great impact in our society. Many have suffered for various ways to worship God. Others are still wondering what to believe in, while important philosophers have their own conclusions over what religion consists of. Therefore, Christians have their faith and hope in the Godwho sent his only child to die for our sins. Good and evilexist and we observe it on a daily basis. Religion takes obedience which is shown in the painting The Ladder of Divine Ascent, by St. John Climacus illustrating the idea that people knew what is right and wrong when following God but for some it was hard to obey Him. I chose my topic on Mandates of Heaven by Lapham s Quarterly because it is a compelling topic for our ancestors and for these current times. Throughout my analysis I will state why I feel that the overall issue will continue to go unsolved unless one puts a practice to the test by building a relationship with God. In the preamble Mandates of Heaven Lapham is trying to level out the field by presenting to us the various beliefs of people who have their own thoughts of the identity of God. Many think God is dead because some do not or simply cannot physically prove Jesus exists and has risen from the dead on the third day. I completely felt like I was viewing the time period being shown in the movie. The costumes were great, and fit everyone s role perfectly. The costumes for the Gladiators included armor and the cape, a helmet, a sword, and a shield. This is all the equipment needed for a Gladiator to survive and defend himself. The costumes for the Lucilla and Commodus were appropriate for their role in the movie as well. They were the high class people in the movie so they wore big coats and expensive clothing with a lot of layers. The film was well photographed and the visuals were good. The scene were Maximus has visions of his wife and son waiting for him in an open field with a long road was well photographed. However, my mother enrolled me in a different district, which meant I had to travel either by city bus or walk. The bus trip would take about an hour and the walk was at least 10 15 miles. My mother had this brainy idea to enroll me in this school for enrichment; somehow this was supposed to be good for me. With the passing of time, the development of thought and language has been the object of study for psychologists such as Jean Piaget and Lev Vygotsky. The former drastically influenced the study of thought and speech with his theory of cognitive development and his clinical method. The latter also made his contribution with his sociocultural theory. Although language and thought may be analysed as associate one to the other, both of them may be considered as independent and dynamic processes which belong to different roots. Considering the book Thought and Language by Lev Vygotsky, it might be possible to debunk the fundamental concepts of Piaget and Vygotsky s theories and to expand on their main differences. As regards language, Piaget and Vygotsky coincided on the inkling that the development of language is an intricate interaction between a child and the environment. Both psychologists opined that when a child accomplishes the development of language, a system of symbols is created in order to help them comprehend the world. Nevertheless, they did not agree on how language and thought may interact in the development of a child. According to Jean Piaget, the cognitive development of a child activates the growth of language. Basically, that means that thought is going to appear before language. Personally, seeing the sunflower with the big breasts did not encourage me to feel empowered. I felt weak and insecure because of the stereotypes of women that are illuminated within video games. Video games represent women as a typical damsel in distress, whereas men are viewed as the hero (Brenick et. al. 3). Although, providing female protagonists in video games were supposed to appeal to more women, it subsequently discouraged women from playing video games. Video games do not only hypersexualize women. He eventually realizes that not only has he committed a crime in the eyes of others, but has broken his own moral code as well. The epilogue brings this all together and in seeing the implications of what his theory truly means, Raskolnikov finds redemption and begins to understand the need for spiritual healing.
