The Necklace And The Rights To The Streets Of Memphis...
Have you ever noticed that your actions/choices affect how and where you end up in life? In the
stories, The Necklace and The rights to the Streets of Memphis the character s choices, and how
well they make them, depend on how the characters end up. While some may say the characters
were affected more by chance, the characters in The Necklace, and The Rights to the Streetsof
Memphis were ultimately affected by their actions because when Richardchose to man up and stand
up for himself in front of the boys he got his money back, Richard decided he did not want to
stay out in the streets until he fought those boys just like Madame Loisel decided she did not
want to live a poor lifestyle for any longer , and Madame Loisel s greed and desire for wealth
ironically caused her to live a poor lifestyle. In the story The Necklace, Madame Loisel and her
husband were poor and not wealthy. But Madame Loisel did not enjoy being poor and wanted to
live a rich and wealthy lifestyle. While her husband did not mind living the poor lifestyle they
lived and did not care if they were rich or not. In the story her husband got both of them an
invitation to a party and needed a nice outfit and jewels to wear but Madame Loisel had neither.
So they both decided to borrow some of Madame Forestier s jewels. They lost the necklace before
they could return it to Madame Forestier and decided to buy a real diamond necklace for 30,000
francs (which they could not afford) instead of confessing to

Similarities Between The Odyssey And The Penelopiad
History is told in the viewpoint of the victor. For thousands of years, a wrong in a textbook may
not be correct until one person speaks up. Hatred, rumors, and the true happenings of ancient event
are often concealed until more accounts of the event are heard. The Odyssey, for thousands of
years only had one major part of the story Odysseustelling of the tale. His wife, only had few
things said about her in Odysseus s epic telling of his journey. What she experienced at home was
much different from what Odysseus did on his journey. In the epic poem The Odyssey, and the book
The Penelopiad , Penelope was portrayed much differently. If Penelope s version of the story had
never been told, she would be seen only as a faithful,

John Wilkes Booth s Assassination
John Wilkes Booth is an important figure of history because he assassinated Abraham Lincoln.
President Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States of America; he was
assassinated by John Wilkes Booth on April 15, 1865. The Civil War had just finished, and the
Union was victorious. Meanwhile, Booth was a Confederate supporter. Booth had many factors to
motivate him to killLincoln, but there were some very important ones that are probably the reason
he killed Lincoln.
First, Booth thought Lincoln was a tyrant and should be killed. After Booth shot President Lincoln
he jumped off stage and yelled Sic semper tyrannis! (Thus ever to tyrants) The south is avenged!
This shows that Booth thinks Lincoln is a tyrant. Also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to biography.com it says Tell mother... I died for my country. This is implying that he
is willing to risk his life to save the country because he thought Lincoln was a bad person and he
was the reason the Confederates lost the war. Additionally, biography.com says that Booth became
involved with a kidnapping plan. It also says the plan including bringing him to Richmond and
either demand peace or the release of Confederate supporters. In this piece of evidence he is saying
that he wants to have revenge and avenge the south. When he jumped off of the stage he yelled the
south is avenged. That also says that he thinks he is getting revenge for the south.
Additionally, he is mad that his kidnapping plan didn t work. biography.com says Frustrated at
seeing his plot fail Booth resolved to go to an even further extreme. This is saying that Booth was
frustrated that his plot failed, and he was going to assassinate the president. biography.com also
says Booth enlisted six southern sympathizers, but their March 1865 attempt in Washington D.C
failed. This shows his support of the South, and it also shows how their plan failed.
John Wilkes Booth, the murderer of Lincoln, had many reasons for his actions. This is very
important to people because there still might be some unknown factors for why John Wilkes Booth
slaughtered Lincoln. Booth thought that assassinating Lincoln was a good idea, but it really only
turned him into a hated and despised

Avoid Drones Analysis
Before I read the article I was in favor of autonomous drones. When growing up I saw the movie
Stealth which is about the first ever autonomous aircraft joining a actual team. At first the pilots
were skeptical, but then through fighting in combat together they became close friends and the
autonomous aircraft ended up sacrificing himself for the two pilots behind enemy lines. Up until
I read this article I never thought it was even a possibility. Then on August 17th 2014 the Navy s
unmanned X 47B lands aboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71). But with
arrival of new technology it does raise fear for most U.S. citizens because of movies like stealth
and terminator, the fear of a killer robot so to speak. I myself think that its... Show more content on

This could be an option to prevent nations from hacking into our systems. But for instance take call
of duty black ops 2s story line. The United States had different weapon systems and drones that
were autonomous. Then the antagonist hacked all of the United States systems and used them
to destroy the states, and cause a worldwide panic because of all the drones that were across the
world. This fear is one that I myself personally am worried about. Another movie that represents
autonomous robots is iRobot. What if those drones where hacked and or given a single piece of
data and it corrupted the drone and it went rogue and started emptying its payload into city s.
Because as we develop society and become more technologically advanced one day everything will
be technology based. And even though we aren t technologically ready for autonomous drones,
fully autonomous unmanned combat aircraft are feasible. But what moral and legal laws would be
broken? Advocates of a ban on autonomous weapons often claim that the technology today isn t
good enough to discriminate reliably between civilian and military targets, and therefore can t
comply with the laws of war. In some situations, that s true. For others, it s

Pros And Cons Of Alternative Energy For Fossil Fuels
Can Alternative Energy Effectively Replace Fossil Fuels ?
There are some that say that the US is ready to start replacing fossil fuels with alternative energy
resources and some don t exactly agree. Alternative energy sources include biofuels, hydrogen,
solar, geothermal, wind and nuclear energy and fossils fuels are fuels such as oil, coal, and
petroleum. Those for alternative energy argue that fossil fuels are inefficient, unsustainable,
environmentally destructive, and the primary contributor to global climate change. They believe
that renewable energies are a viable and immediately needed alternative to fossil fuels. Then
those for fossil fuels believe that there are many technical hurdles that have to be overcome
before alternative energy could replace even a small portion of the power powered by fossil fuels.
They also say that fossil fuels will last hundreds of years longer, be made more efficient, and
remain the most economical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the information was presented in a less objective way I think that there would be less
controversies. As I was reading portions of the articles, I found it unprofessionally to display
opinions rather than facts from scientific studies. Also since the world basically runs their
economies based off of the price of oil, its hard to speculate if it is feasible to go without fossil fuels.
If I were to write an article presenting the pros and cons on weather alternative energy could
effectively replace fossil fuels, I would gather information from trusted scientific sources and
analyses how using alternative energy would effect the world as a whole. Although I agree public
opinion is important when researching certain topics, it can sometimes be misleading. However in
this circumstance, I found that there was not enough information on how much of an impact fossil
fuels has on the world

Glass Shower Door Research Paper
One of the biggest challenge of having glass shower doors is keeping them clean. Here are four
household products you can use to keep your glass shower doors clean.
#1 Fabric Softeners
If you have a lot of soap scum stuck to the inside if your shower, you should consider using fabric
softener sheets to remove the built up soap scum. Take a fabric softener and use it to scrub the
dry glass. Scrub in a circular motion to effective loosen and remove the soap scum. Then, rinse
off the loose soap scum by pouring water over the area and squeegeeing it away. This is a great
way to tackle and reduce the soap scum that has built up on your glass shower doors.
#2 Baking Soda
Baking soda works really well for removing hard water stains from your glass shower door as well
as neutralizing and removing mildew. Take a bowl and pour baking soda into it. Then, add a
little bit of water at a time and stir it until you have created a paste that is slightly runny with the
baking soda and water. Use a sponge to apply the paste to your shower door. Let the paste sit for
about a minute on your shower door before scrubbing it in and rinsing it off with some water. ...

Lewis and Clark Expedition
James Jang William and Meriwether, better known as Lewis and Clark, were hired by the U.S.
president Thomas Jefferson to explore the newly bought Louisiana Purchase. The Louisiana
Purchase was bought from France in 1803. Lewis and Clark started their expedition in 1804
near St. Louis. The group of explorers called themselves the corps of discovery. In the first
winter they were helped by a Shoshone Indian named Sacagawea. Their journey was full of
trouble and challenges but in the end led to a great discovery that changed the lives and beliefs
of people everywhere. Their expedition stretched from camp wood to fort Clatsop. Lewis and
Clark knew each other from the war where Clark was under William Lewis s command later then
Thomas Jefferson recruited Clark to lead this exploration and then he went to William Lewis to
ask him to come along with him. Their expedition was full of confusing water ways that could
potentially ruin their exploration for the most convenient route through the Louisiana Purchase.
One problem was that America claimed parts of land that were occupied by the Native
Americans; this was a problem because this caused many disputes between Americans and the
Natives that lived there. This expedition was not to find trade roots or to search for science but
was to discover the Louisiana Purchase. In May of 1804 the expedition started off in camp Dubois

Richard II Tragic Hero Essay
Shakespeare really wrote tragedies of great heights and earned standard category. His one of the
best creation Richard II is a historical play rather being a tragedy. The history play is usually
distinguished especially by its political purposes from other kinds of plays.shakespeare emphasized
the political issue mainly in this play. He tried to show the conflict between Richard and
Bolingbroke and finally the rebellion. The play is consequently written not about the down fall of
its hero but around the chronological stages by which Bolingbroke threatens, captures, and retains
the crown. Throughout a tragedyplay readers suffer with the hero and feel sympathy for the hero
but it does not happen with Richard II. So the play cannot be claim as a tragedy.
From the point of view of Harold Bloom, it can be mentioned that Richard II is ... Show more

(Elliott. History and Tragedy in Richard II).
According to my point of view, Richard II is not a complete tragic hero. He did not have the
qualities of a real tragic hero though he was from a high ststus and died at last. He was not a
good person, a foolish king, a weak and unwise politician, irresponsible self centered person. He
misused his power, increased taxes to accomplish his luxury expenses, took wrong decision,
murderer of his uncle, in a word, he was an unworthy leader.
From the earlier scene Richard II is devoid of for anyone. Through the quarrel between
Bolingbroke and Mowbray, Richard takes advantage to get rid of the crime of murder his uncle
Gloucester.Rather trying to solve the conflict he tried to hide his crime by banishing them.
Richard s inability to make peace between Bolingbroke and Mowbray is sometimes seen as an
indication of his weakness proposed by Tillyard, Campbell, and Ribner. (Elliott. History and

The Many Ways Of Dealing With Life
As an individual, I have always seen the world somewhat differently than the average person in a
community such as mine. Those around me, as devout orthodox Jews, tend to view those
different than them as strange and odd often times even judging them negatively. Personally, I
see this as a large problem, since as much as we would like to separate ourselves from those
different than us to avoid negative influences, we do live in a society that includes a multitude
of religions, cultures, and ways of life. I believe wholeheartedly that each person can learn an
immense amount from everyone they come across, and by continuing our habit of blocking off
most of society with negative words, we are cutting ourselves off from a lifetime of growth and
possibility. Yes, others may be different than us. They may have different views, different beliefs,
and different ways of dealing with life. But like us, they are human with hopes, dreams,
heartbreaks, desires, and passions. They each have a wealth of knowledge and wisdom from the
two year old boy to the ninety seven year old grandma. And in my humble opinion, I strongly
believe that respect should be given to everyone, no matter their race, religion, or station in life. I
must credit my father ZTL and my mother, who both raised me to see the good in others and
respect every human being I come across. They taught me that just because I had my beliefs, did
not mean I had a right to judge others for believing differently. The

Us Economy On Top Essay
The US should keep US economy on top when it comes to trade. This will provide people in our
country with better products and improve the overall standard of living. We would help poorer
and more underdeveloped countries than us that need assistance. Also, putting the US economy
on top will result in keeping peace with countries. Some say we will focus less on values and
more on resources and money and make other countries economy s weaker, but we will still hold
on to values unless they get in the way and we will actually help other economies by trading with
them even though the US is still on top. We should make sure the US economy is on top so we
can help the people in our country have better lives and help and keep peace with countries other
than us.
Putting the US economy on top will make the citizens of our country have better lives. The US
has more money and better resources, so people get better resources, like gas or electricity. We
can also get better products like food or cars. Americans buy the Subaru even though it is made in
Japan. It s one of the best cars in the world. Americans can also get the porsche even though it is
made in germany. It is another one of the best car brands. Sometimes the resources are even

Also it seems that both the instruments used and their arrangement amongst one another is
done in a way that resembles how it would have been originally played. The first piece,
Beethoven Egmont Ouverture, Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 was particularly good I thought
and exhibited a lot of the concepts we have studied in this course. For example unity, throughout
the piece I felt that there was a strong backbone section which kept the piece feeling familiar.
Even when there would be seemingly unrelated ideas thrown in, I always felt that it was taken
back to familiar ideas. Having said that there was definitely a lot of variety in the piece. There
were several ideas throughout, which sometime would come back in a pattern while others
would only make an appearance once. There was also a lot of variety in the volume or dynamic
of the piece which gave a nice variety to it. Additionally several different instruments were used
which gave several different timbres. The tempo also varied a lot within the piece. Going from
fast to slow and vice versa, and with different accelerations which gave it a nice feel. The overall
rhythm of the piece was nice and polyphonic. This piece was made in the classical era of art (2).
The second piece, Mahler Symphony No. 1 was not as good for me, although it still exhibited a lot
of the concepts we have studied in this course. For example

The Legend Of Chun Hyang
Comics, since their conception, have been seen as an immature media that is strictly pop culture
without the ability to pass substantive messages. However, the quantities of people who read and
share comic books provide open pathway to idea sharing. The Legend of Chun Hyang I is an
example of this cultural messaging through this medium. Written in 1992, as Asian cultures were
joining the globalizing world, this mangarepresented cultural hybridity as a Korean folktale being
represented by a Japanese company. The storyline is relatable for young girls who want to be
independent no matter which country they are from. Chun Hyang as a character in the work is not
close to the actual Korean storyline. However, she is closer to the ideal manga heroine who is
pretty but brave, and independent but in love. Chun Hyang represents the move towards a more
universal Asian feeling and closeness between the Japanese and Korean pop cultures. Chun Hyang
is the story of a young girlwho grows up without a father, her mother is a famous medicine woman.
Chun Hyang, the main character, is a independent and strong willed young lady who fights back
against the oppressive town head or Yang Ban. Chung Hyang meets a young man named Mong

The Influence of Buddhism In Chinese Martial Arts Since first introduced During the Han Dynasty,
Buddhism has played a major role in Chinese art and culture. This is especially true in the traditions

Economic And Economic Effects Of The Social Revolution...
During the Industrial Revolution, the working class were working for about 16 hours a day
including children. This lead children and adults in bad terms. In other words, they were living in
urban areas and many diseases were spreading due to the fact that they wouldn t take good care of
themselves. The Industrial Revolutionbegan in Great Britain in the 18th Century because
Agricultural Revolution had more resources, Britain had resources, and Britain had wealth to
invest. The Industrial Revolution was rapid changes in how products were made and sold by using
machines in the late 1700s through the early 1900s. There were many economic and social effects
in the Industrial Revolution. The working class struggled a lot with money issues and they would
get sick often due to the poor working conditions. During the Industrial Revolution, the effects were
economic negative because the workers were getting treated unfairly. It was also negative social
because the working class were living in bad conditions.
Economically, the effects were negative in the Industrial Revolution because in factories many
workers such as adults and children were getting treated in a negative way.One example of a
negative economic effect of the Industrial Revolution can be found in Document # 3. The
document was created by William Cooper and Joseph Sadler who was a former factory worker the
British Parliament in London 1832. Since they were former factory workers they already had an
idea of the working conditions in factories. The document explains how workers were getting
mistreated in factories. This example shows the economic effects of the Industrial Revolution
were negative because child labors started at a young age and worked for about 16 hours a day.
They were only allowed to get a 40 minute break in all the 16 hours. This means that they wouldn
t eat very well and were getting paid very little since they were children. Working long hours was
making children very tired. This impact their lives in a negative way because they were so young
and were already suffering from working long hours. Another example can be found in the article

Factors Influencing Organisational Structure Essay
Introduction
The influence of factors on organizational structure and their impact on the organization has been in
focus by researchers since many years. This paper reviews the literature and analyses the factors
that influence the structure and design of organizations. Organizational structures are mainly
grouped as functional and divisional structures on the basis of functions or jobs. The most
important and powerful tool for enhancing performance in an organization is the organizational
design although there is no perfect or unique design. Organizational change occurs when a company
makes a shift from its present state to a desired state, which is necessary in today s competitive
environment.

The factors that contribute to development of an organization include its size, technology human
resources, production program and environmental requirements. The role of political environment
is also stressed. For effective and also efficient utilization of resources, designing an ideal
organizational structure is important. Some of the factors that affect the organizational structure
are decentralization of decision making, customer interaction, value of innovation and marketing
considerations. They can be grouped into two factors: internal that was from environment under the
firm s control and external, that were not under the control of the firm. Today, companies require
undergoing changes almost constantly to remain competitive. Globalization of markets and rapidly
growing technology force organizations to respond in order to survive. The ultimate competitive
organizational structure should be a flexible one and the design should influence competitive

A Study On Sexuality And Brotherly Love
More specifically, this passage followed First Thessalonians 4:1 12. This was the clear turning
point in the letter where Paul went from being happy about the Thessalonians faith to instructing
them on how to do better. In verse one, Paul wrote, Finally, which marked the transition, and
went on to write, we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us how you
ought to walk and to please God, just as you are doing, that you do so more and more. Paul then
went on to clarify some teachings about sexuality and brotherly love (1 Thessalonians 4:2 12).
Presumably, Paul instructed on these topics specifically because some of the Thessalonians had
been struggling in these areas. This section immediately followed First Thessalonians 3:6 13 which
detailed Timothy s report to Paul on his visit to Thessalonica. Since Timothy would have told Paul
the problems the Thessalonians had been dealing with, it would make sense that Paul would have
addressed them after discussing Timothy s report. Since First Thessalonians 4:13 18 followed this
section of the letter, Paul would have continued to discuss problems the Thessalonians were facing
at the time. First Thessalonians 4:13 would confirm this thought because Paul stated in it, we do
not want you to be uninformed. Clearly, this section was about correcting misinformation that was
a problem in the Thessalonian church at the time. Immediately following this passage was First
Thessalonians 5:1 11. First Thessalonians

solution for the issues.
Question 2 The main aim of using the system thanking is by enable us to analyze complex issues
which illuminate our way. System have five key ideas bear main which illustrate the system
thinking :
1 Everything in a system is connected : all elements on the system are interconnected with each
other, there is a kind of connection between each group member in the system it may contain
people, material and even intangible elements. For example hospital have a system which that make

Art After The Great War
Art after The Great War The Great War was the first of its kind. Never before had combat been
conducted on such a global scale. The technological advancements resulting from the onset of
Industrialism allowed weapons and supplies to be mass produced. When the dust finally settled, the
death toll eclipsed 16 million, and another 20 million were wounded. Dadaand Surrealism
originated as artistic reactions to the colossal destruction experienced during World War I. Dada
radical and poet, Tristan Tzara, confessed, the beginnings of Dada were not the beginnings of art,
but of disgust (MoMa Dada). Largely, this was disgust to the atrocities and suffering of war.
However, it was also disgust towards the bourgeoisie, political corruption,... Show more content on

Marcel Duchamp is widely considered one of the most influential Dada artists. His works
frequently included the use of ready mades. Ready mades are pre fabricated items that the artist
personally deems as art. For example, a chair, or table could potentially be a ready made. One of
Duchamp s most famous ready mades is called Fountain. This piece is a previously used urinal,
with the name R. Mutt 1917 written in black on the side. The installation is a classic example of
Dada art, in that it does not make sense. It is art because it is anti art. There is no logic, and there is
no reason behind it. It is art because the artist decided it was art. It simply exists. Francis Picabia
is another prominent Dada artist. In 1919, he created a diagram of how a supposed Dada alarm
clock works. The dada movement aimed to shake the world of modern art up. Art was considered
boring and mundane. Dada was a noisy alarm that woke up modern art from merely aesthetic
slumber (Elderfield). Picabia s piece was supposed to represent how it changed. The flow of current
was actually the flow of change of modern art. While Dada was intended to be a rebellious and
purposeful response to conventional and traditional thinking in society, its successor Surrealism
resulted from the desire to explore the unconscious mind. Also, the movement aimed to upset the
conventions of reality. Surrealism started as a literary movement that utilized a technique called
automatism.

Nucor Corporation Case Analysis Essay

Nucor Corporation Memo Response:
Per your request I have analyzed Nucor Corporation and the steel industry. After performing both
strategic and financial analysis I offer my recommendations.
Executive Summary:
Nucor Corporation was the most profitable steel producer in North America in both 2005 and
2006. It is regarded as a low cost steel producer in the United States, and one of the most efficient
and technologically innovative steel producers in the world. Nucor is known for its aggressive

Product differentiation is also a major barrier to entry. Steel is not sold on its overall difference,
but more commonly on price. Many manufacturers utilize the same technologies and processes.
Price wars are seen to minimize fixed costs, which mean there are few switching costs from one
manufacturer to another. There is very little brand loyalty in this industry, especially when it does
not appeal to consumer loyalty or brand image. Entrants must find ways to compete based on lower
costs. Access to raw materials can also be a barrier. A lot of the time materials must be bought in
large quantities. There is no cost advantage associated with small material purchases, and that can
directly increase the overall manufacturing costs. This can make competition challenging in a
market where margins are already very small. Government policy is not a huge threat of entry on
the domestic level, but at the international level the barriers become much larger. Well established
relationships by larger steel manufacturers with government allows for easy establishment of
contracts in a foreign territory. Since most steel manufacturers must be globally competitive to
maintain profits government policy is a threatening entry barrier.
Bargaining Power of Suppliers: Strong The supply of raw materials can have a positive or negative
effect on a cost strategy. Most of the steel used in domestic manufacturing in the United States is
imported. On

Industry Description Of The Retailing Industry
Industry Description
Book retailing is an industry where companies sell books and other reading media, including,
audio books, e books and e readers. Some bookstores sell other products including DVDs, stationery
and gifts. Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWCS) world network reports sales of sixty billion globally,
including e books (Hoovers Inc, 2016). Most Book retailers operate from storefronts, although
some bookstores also operate online. Barnes Noble US, Fnac France, Page One China, Thalia
Germany, and WH Smith UK are prominent companies in this industry. (Hoovers Inc, 2016).

Over the five year period until 2015 6, there was an annual decline in revenue of 10.6%
(ibisworld, 2016). Numerous challenges have beset the industry, such as, lower book prices,
strong competition from online retailers and a change in popularity from printed books to e
books (ibisworld, 2016). Other issues that have a significant effect on bookstores are parallel
import restrictions (IBISWorld, 2016), and online retailers being advantaged by low freight
charges and often no requirement to pay (GST) Goods and Services Tax (ABC, 2016).
Encouraging Signs
However, there are encouraging signs according to Williams, (2015) who points to the icon of
bookstores Dymocks, which claims to have had its best ever sales year. Sydney book retailer
Jon Page noted an upward surge in sales in the final quarter leading up to Christmas, a period
that accounts for around 70% of annual sales (Han, 2015). According to the Nielsen book scan
data, there were 55.4 million in sales of printed books in Australia last year, a 2.2% increase over
the previous year, the first sales increase since 2009. (Han, 2015).
Some of the downturns in printed book sales may be as a result of economic conditions which
have affected all retailers. According to Page, (n.d.) the global financial crisis has dramatically
changed retailing regardless of your product (Han, 2015).The chief executive of the Australian
Booksellers Association, Joel Becker commented, the

A Veteran s Honor
Honor is the pride and respect of veterans who served their country and kept it safe. How one
person thanks the veterans is different from another. However, honor and morals sometimes get
confused during the time of war. The Navy sometimes names their ships after war heroes for their
actions and bravery. However, shouldn t the military do that for all veterans alive or dead? Some
veterans don t even get the honor and respect they earned for serving their country. When Veteran s
Day became an official holiday in the United States, Americans honored them by giving out
discounts or free items for that day. Many restaurants such as Applebee s and Olive Garden give
discounts or free food to veterans as a thank you to them for their service. Some veterans wear
their uniforms when going out on this day. Some places have parades for the veterans in honor
of them. Memorial Day and Independence Day in some Americans eyes can be considered a
time to honor veterans as well. On Independence Day most Americans wear red, white and blue
and shoot off fireworks and play music not only to celebrate America s birthday, but to honor all
the men and women who died in battle as well as honor the ones that are alive. Some veterans
have reunions after the time they served with the people who was with them during that time.
Anywhere a reunion is being held like, the beach or in a major city like Boston or Jacksonville,
etc. Hotels will give big discounts for the time they served and they respect

Research Paper
It was on October 21, 2003 at 5:37 pm that the nightmare started. A wildfire, The Cedar Fire ,
spread rapidly in the Cleveland National Forest. Communication systems were destroyed and
houses burned to the ground. The fire was contained on November 4, 2003.
It is said that the wildfire was caused by a lost hunter. His name was Sergio Martinez. He is from
Redlands, California. Before starting the fire, he was following his hunter buddy, Ronald
Adkins, until they got separated at 10 a.m. that morning. He lied at first and said he shot his rifle
before laying down to rest in hopes to draw attention. Sergio Martinez then confessed he lit two
small signal fires which later turned into fourteen separate fires. He wanted to improve his
chances of being found. The fire he started was to be a signal fire and one to keep him warm.
But as minutes passed, the fire grew out of control. The fire started near San Diego but Martinez
was found in Cold Water Canyon in Beverly Hills, California one week later. He claims he was
doing what he learned in his hunter safety course back in 2002.
Much damage was done to homes, families, and personal belongings. Martinez said the following

Examples Of Memory View
Memory view is associated with Personal Identity where in which it is (Personal Identity) made up
by memory relations. These are where a person consists of a set of person stages linked by
(genuine) memory relations. Memory view is largely made up of genuine and apparent memories
although Genuine memory is the same as apparent memory provided that the person with the
apparent memory really experienced the event.
It is viewed as being something that is purely made up of mental and psychological factors. An
example that can be used is that of a rope; a rope is composed of twisted fibres, but no fibre
needs to run the whole length of the rope. (1) In this example the rope itself represents the person
whilst the fibres are seen to be the memory connections and therefore connect the mental processes.
The idea of this example leads from Locke s Theory and is imperative requirement for his theory
to work. Aside from this memory view is also largely constituted to Personal identity and of which
there have been many differentiating viewpoints that have arisen. (Some of which are suggestions
that the self is identifiable with one s body or that the self is that of a sentient/thinking mind. ...

The Loose Cinematic Retelling Of The Novel Mildred...
The loose cinematic retelling of the novel Mildred Pierce into a more marketable noir murder
mystery greatly changes aspects of the story s literary point of view : how the story is portrayed or
narrated. The film employs a third person point of view giving us extremely limited access to the
thoughts of the characters. In the novelJames Cain utilizes a third person limited perspective,
allowing the reader to know Mildred s thoughts and emotions. As a result the meaning of the story
greatly varies between the two. While Mildred s actions in the two versions of the story are, for the
most part, similar, access to her thoughts change their meaning. Without knowing her thoughts and
emotions, Mildred s devotion to Veda in the film appears... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In both stories Mildred gives everything she has for Veda. She devotes all her energy searching
for a job to support Veda s expensive lifestyle. Here the difference in perspective between the two
versions greatly changes the significance of her actions. In the film she is rejected from every
job until accepting the chance to be a waitress without hesitation. In the novel Mildred is
presented with multiple job opportunities. Despite these openings Mildred rejects them and is
repulsed by the idea of menial labor. The reason being is because she is terrified by how Veda
will look down on her for doing such work. It isn t until she realizes the graveness of her
situation that she resigns herself and accepts the job as a waitress. Access to Mildred s internal
conflict in the novel during her search greatly changes the meaning of her actions. Her
willingness to be a waiter in film characterizes her as a mother willing to do anything for her
daughter s wellbeing. Mildred rejecting similar positions and shamefully accepting the job in the
book characterizes her as more concerned with what her daughter will think of her than actually
taking care of her. When Veda discovers Mildred s job as a waitress she mocks her. Both
versions of the story have Mildred striking Veda to punish her and breaking down into tears after
doing so. The film portrays her crying because she is saddened by causing harm to her

##cietal Values In Society In Amy Poehler s Writing Is Hard
In today s society, people often tend to shift towards the societal norms and don t ever want to be
pushed out of their comfort zone. While many people write about the struggles with these
situations, two authors seem to do a great job at explaining it in their own lives. In Amy Poehler s
preface, Writing is Hard, and in Tina Feys excerpt Bossypants, they both describe what it s like to
live with the difficulties and demands of today s society with Poehler s being more from the
work side and Fey s being from the beauty side. While both write about overcoming society s
mindset and believing in yourself in the two perspectives they present, Fey seems to do a more
detailed and thought out job with the writing in Chapter three: All Girls Must Be Everything
that more people can relate to. Furthermore, the two comedians do a great job trying to appeal to
their specific audience; however, Tina Fey seems to find more strength in it than Poehler.
Poehler and Fey are both well known for their comedic work and acting abilities in the society
meaning they have the credibility to talk about such topics they discuss in their excerpts, but
Tina Fey appears to use her fame status more to her advantage. She writes about teaching girls
that they are all beautiful no matter what the standards are people tend to get from the media.
For example, in Fey s excerpt from her book, Bossypants, she tells her readers of her personal
story with experiencing body awareness for the first time. Fey states in her excerpt from chapter
three of Bossypants, One afternoon a girl walked by in a bikini and my cousin Janet scoffed,
Look at the hips on her. I panicked. What about the hips? Were they too big? Too small? What
were my hips? Fey later shares her story about her daughter noticing the standards for hair color
by saying, When I asked her why she didn t like Snow White, she told me, I don t like her hair.
Not even three years old, she knew that yellow hair is king (Bossypants). This proves to the
audience that not only is dealing with body image a problem now with the younger generation,
but, also, before Tina Fey even rose to fame. She is able to appeal to the readers emotions by using
her young daughter s story because

Don Quixote Sparknotes
In Miguel de Cervantes book Don Quixote, the protagonist of this book is Don Quixote, a man
who has gone mad and assumed the identity of a knight errant. Don Quixote wanders the
countryside in search of maidens to save, duels to engage in, and enchanters to stop. The comedic
element of this book revolves around Don Quixotes unbreaking faith in the stories of chivalry
which he reads. Our main character gets himself into countless embarrassing scrapes due to the
fact that he thinks fairies, enchanters, and dragons exist. In the famous story of the windmill,
where Don Quixote mistakes a windmill for a giant, we see that his worldview is greatly warped
by the stories which he has read. Miguel de Cervantesis by no means a silent narrator, he often
inputs his opinions and uses insults to describe the protagonist, using phrases such as madman or
fool . Cervantes uses the great faith Don Quixote exhibits to input his own raillery against faith. In
fact, it can be said that one of the main points behind the story of Don Quixote was a ridicule of
blind faith.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Therefore, whenever someone was in his eyes an ugly troll or a devious enchantress, he believed

for what is right, he would always win. However, Cervantes portrays this as a character flaw, he

Essay about Campaign Finance Reform
Campaign finance reform has a broad history in America. In particular, campaign finance has
developed extensively in the past forty years, as the courts have attempted to create federal
elections that best sustain the ideals of a representative democracy. In the most recent Supreme
Court decision concerning campaign finance, Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, the
Court essentially decided to treat corporations like individuals by allowing corporations to spend
money on federal elections through unlimited independent expenditures. In order to understand
how the Supreme Court justified this decision, however, the history of campaign finance in regards
to individuals must be examined. At the crux of these campaign finance laws... Show more content

Furthermore, these laws are particularly important because they deal with discussion of public
issues and debate on the qualifications of candidates. This sort of speech allows citizens to make
an informed decision about which candidate they will elect. This is crucial to the operation of the
government, for those who are elected will shape the nation in a profound way. As legal scholar
Alexander Meiklejohn argued when explaining the necessity of protecting political speech, self
governance can only exist insofar as the voters acquire the intelligence, integrity, sensitivity, and
generous devotion to the general welfare that, in theory, casting a ballot is assumed to express. For
these reasons, the ability to spend money on elections is essential to the First Amendment, as it
allows for the communication of ideas and opinions that are crucial to democracy. The need to
protect this first amendment right, however, is balanced against the need to avoid corruption in
federal elections. The Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 (FECA) attempted to revamp the
structure of campaign finance, particularly dealing with eliminate corrupt uses of campaign
contributions. Money in the form of a contribution can easily be seen as a bribe, or an attempt to
influence a candidate in the contributor s favor. FECA required

Marxist Reading Of The Chaser
John Collier wrote a story called The Chaser. This story wraps around two men with a fiction

could pick and point at certain moments in this story. Also how one s views can change the
bases of the story. Marxist Criticism is based around the money standpoint of every story, film,
ect. This kind of criticism basically states that more money equals more power. With that being
said it can be interpreted that the old man who is selling the potions has the most power in this
story. One can infer this do to him selling a one dollar potion that will with time turn into a
purchase of a five thousand dollar potion. The next step down is the man buyin the potion in the
story. He is second in power do to him having the money to make the purchase, and also being

The Period Of The Edo Era
During the Tokugawa era Noh continued to be an aristocratic art form supported by the shogun, the
feudal aristocrats or daimyo, as well as several wealthy and more sophisticated commoners. While
kabuki and joruri, popular to the middle class, focused on new and experimental entertainment, Noh
strived to preserve its established high standards and historic authenticity and remained mostly
unchanged throughout the era. To capture the essence of performances given by great masters,
every detail in movements and positions is reproduced by others, generally resulting in an
increasingly slow, ceremonial tempo.
The fall of the Tokugawa shogunate in 1868 and the formation of a new government resulted in the
end of financial support for Noh, and the entire field experienced major, financial crisis. Shortly
after the Meiji Restoration, both the number of Noh performers and Noh stages greatly diminished
for some time.
The support from the imperial government was eventually regained due to Noh s appeal to foreign
diplomats. The companies that remained active throughout the Meiji era also significantly
broadened Noh s reach by catering to the public, performing at theatres in major cities such as
Tokyo and Osaka. Spreading the knowledge about Noh and gathering knowledge from other types
of drama. (Japan)

Rogers And Psychodynamic Therapy
II: BIOGRAPHY OF ROGERS
On January 8, 1902, Rogers was born in Oak Park, Illinois, a little suburb outside of Chicago. He
was the fourth out of six other children. He was brought up in a home marked by close family
ties, a very strict and uncompromising religious and ethical atmosphere, and what amounted to a
worship of the virtue of hard work. His parents cared a great deal for him and their other children,
and they had their welfare almost constantly in mind. His parents were also, in many subtle and
affectionate ways, very controlling of their children s behavior. Rogers said that it was assumed by

During the early years of his theory, it was known as nondirective. Later, his theory was termed
client centered, person centered, student centered, group centered, and person to person. We use
the label client centered in reference to Carl s therapy and the more inclusive term person
centered to refer to Rogerian personality theory (J. Feist, G. Feist, Roberts, 2013, p. 289). The
core purpose of the person centered approach is to actualize tendency (facilitate the personal
growth and relationships of an individual by allowing them to explore and utilize their own
strengths and personal identity). A counselor that uses person centered approach will aid this
process and provide support to help their clients overcome the problems that are dwelling ad
affecting their personal development and progress. Rogers postulated two structures or processes:
organismic experiencing and self. Experience refers to everything potentially available to awareness

stated in the Oxford Dictionary of Architecture, the museum is one of the most complex, intricate,

The Soane style was not one to be reckoned with. Despite exploring all the classical styles of
architecture in his lifetime, Soane, abstracted these classical conventions to fit his own personal
interpretation , leading towards a new freedom of architecture. It is this freedom that allows us to
disagree with the critical views of the 19th century, a time where Soane was indeed, a great architect
who suffered for his originality and integrity. Additionally, what people struggled to realise was that
no. 13 Lincoln s Inn Field functioned both as a house and as a museum for the study of
architecture, emphasising further the building was entitled to defy convention. As the curator for
the museum from 1945 to 1984, John Summerson understood that despite how deeply the criticism
affected him and the limitations put on his architecture at the time, Soane was successful in
achieving a sense of immortality, surviving himself in the minds and thoughts of other men,
undying and imperishable (Hazlitt). This is made clear through the existence of his museum; it is
Soane s most visible projection of himself, whereby the façade of no. 13 Lincoln s Inn Fields
acts as the beginning of a story expressing the embodiment of Soane as an architect. (200

Mise-En-Scene, Editing And Cinematographic Elements In The...
The Godfather , a crime noir film produced in 1972, is about an aged patriarch of a famous mafia
dynasty that transfers control of his business to his disinclined son. It was directed by Francis
Ford Cappola and stars actors such as Al Pacino and Marlon Brando. The film s numerous

the shadows. They cut to a medium shot of Don Corleone, the leader of this organized crime
dynasty, finally revealing this shadowy figure to the audience, relieving them of some tension.
The camera shifts location again in order to reveal the scene, something like an establishing shot.
Here, they reveal four male characters, all dressed in suits, and the only lights coming from the
slats in the blinds and the sole artificial light on the right side of the room. Don Corleone is also
placed in the center of this shot with every other character facing him, giving him a sense of power.
Next, they cut to a medium shot of the godfather sitting

In verse one, Paul wrote, Finally, which marked the transition, and went on to write, we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, just as you are doing, that you do so more and more. Paul then went on to clarify some teachings about sexuality and brotherly love (1 Thessalonians 4:2 12). Presumably, Paul instructed on these topics specifically because some of the Thessalonians had been struggling in these areas. This section immediately followed First Thessalonians 3:6 13 which detailed Timothy s report to Paul on his visit to Thessalonica. Since Timothy would have told Paul the problems the Thessalonians had been dealing with, it would make sense that Paul would have addressed them after discussing Timothy s report. Since First Thessalonians 4:13 18 followed this section of the letter, Paul would have continued to discuss problems the Thessalonians were facing at the time. First Thessalonians 4:13 would confirm this thought because Paul stated in it, we do not want you to be uninformed. Other issues that have a significant effect on bookstores are parallel import restrictions (IBISWorld, 2016), and online retailers being advantaged by low freight charges and often no requirement to pay (GST) Goods and Services Tax (ABC, 2016). Encouraging Signs However, there are encouraging signs according to Williams, (2015) who points to the icon of bookstores Dymocks, which claims to have had its best ever sales year. Sydney book retailer Jon Page noted an upward surge in sales in the final quarter leading up to Christmas, a period that accounts for around 70% of annual sales (Han, 2015). According to the Nielsen book scan data, there were 55.4 million in sales of printed books in Australia last year, a 2.2% increase over the previous year, the first sales increase since 2009. (Han, 2015). Some of the downturns in printed book sales may be as a result of economic conditions which have affected all retailers. According to Page, (n.d.) the global financial crisis has dramatically changed retailing regardless of your product (Han, 2015).The chief executive of the Australian Booksellers Association, Joel Becker commented, the ... • 27. A Veteran s Honor Honor is the pride and respect of veterans who served their country and kept it safe. How one person thanks the veterans is different from another. However, honor and morals sometimes get confused during the time of war. The Navy sometimes names their ships after war heroes for their actions and bravery. However, shouldn t the military do that for all veterans alive or dead? Some veterans don t even get the honor and respect they earned for serving their country. When Veteran s Day became an official holiday in the United States, Americans honored them by giving out discounts or free items for that day. Many restaurants such as Applebee s and Olive Garden give discounts or free food to veterans as a thank you to them for their service. Some veterans wear their uniforms when going out on this day. Some places have parades for the veterans in honor of them. Memorial Day and Independence Day in some Americans eyes can be considered a time to honor veterans as well. On Independence Day most Americans wear red, white and blue and shoot off fireworks and play music not only to celebrate America s birthday, but to honor all the men and women who died in battle as well as honor the ones that are alive. Some veterans have reunions after the time they served with the people who was with them during that time. Anywhere a reunion is being held like, the beach or in a major city like Boston or Jacksonville, etc. Hotels will give big discounts for the time they served and they respect ... A wildfire, The Cedar Fire , spread rapidly in the Cleveland National Forest. Communication systems were destroyed and houses burned to the ground. The fire was contained on November 4, 2003. It is said that the wildfire was caused by a lost hunter. His name was Sergio Martinez. He is from Redlands, California. Before starting the fire, he was following his hunter buddy, Ronald Adkins, until they got separated at 10 a.m. that morning. He lied at first and said he shot his rifle before laying down to rest in hopes to draw attention. Sergio Martinez then confessed he lit two small signal fires which later turned into fourteen separate fires. He wanted to improve his chances of being found. The fire he started was to be a signal fire and one to keep him warm. But as minutes passed, the fire grew out of control. The fire started near San Diego but Martinez was found in Cold Water Canyon in Beverly Hills, California one week later. He claims he was doing what he learned in his hunter safety course back in 2002. Much damage was done to homes, families, and personal belongings. These are where a person consists of a set of person stages linked by (genuine) memory relations. Memory view is largely made up of genuine and apparent memories although Genuine memory is the same as apparent memory provided that the person with the apparent memory really experienced the event. It is viewed as being something that is purely made up of mental and psychological factors. An example that can be used is that of a rope; a rope is composed of twisted fibres, but no fibre needs to run the whole length of the rope. (1) In this example the rope itself represents the person whilst the fibres are seen to be the memory connections and therefore connect the mental processes. The idea of this example leads from Locke s Theory and is imperative requirement for his theory to work. The loose cinematic retelling of the novel Mildred Pierce into a more marketable noir murder mystery greatly changes aspects of the story s literary point of view : how the story is portrayed or narrated. The film employs a third person point of view giving us extremely limited access to the thoughts of the characters. In the novelJames Cain utilizes a third person limited perspective, allowing the reader to know Mildred s thoughts and emotions. As a result the meaning of the story greatly varies between the two. Despite these openings Mildred rejects them and is repulsed by the idea of menial labor. The reason being is because she is terrified by how Veda will look down on her for doing such work. • 33. ##cietal Values In Society In Amy Poehler s Writing Is Hard In today s society, people often tend to shift towards the societal norms and don t ever want to be pushed out of their comfort zone. While many people write about the struggles with these situations, two authors seem to do a great job at explaining it in their own lives. In Amy Poehler s preface, Writing is Hard, and in Tina Feys excerpt Bossypants, they both describe what it s like to live with the difficulties and demands of today s society with Poehler s being more from the work side and Fey s being from the beauty side. While both write about overcoming society s mindset and believing in yourself in the two perspectives they present, Fey seems to do a more detailed and thought out job with the writing in Chapter three: All Girls Must Be Everything that more people can relate to. Furthermore, the two comedians do a great job trying to appeal to their specific audience; however, Tina Fey seems to find more strength in it than Poehler. Poehler and Fey are both well known for their comedic work and acting abilities in the society meaning they have the credibility to talk about such topics they discuss in their excerpts, but Tina Fey appears to use her fame status more to her advantage. She writes about teaching girls that they are all beautiful no matter what the standards are people tend to get from the media. For example, in Fey s excerpt from her book, Bossypants, she tells her readers of her personal story with experiencing body awareness for the first time. Fey states in her excerpt from chapter three of Bossypants, One afternoon a girl walked by in a bikini and my cousin Janet scoffed, Look at the hips on her. I panicked. What about the hips? Were they too big? Too small? What were my hips? Fey later shares her story about her daughter noticing the standards for hair color by saying, When I asked her why she didn t like Snow White, she told me, I don t like her hair. Not even three years old, she knew that yellow hair is king (Bossypants). This proves to the audience that not only is dealing with body image a problem now with the younger generation, but, also, before Tina Fey even rose to fame. Don Quixote wanders the countryside in search of maidens to save, duels to engage in, and enchanters to stop. The comedic element of this book revolves around Don Quixotes unbreaking faith in the stories of chivalry which he reads. Our main character gets himself into countless embarrassing scrapes due to the fact that he thinks fairies, enchanters, and dragons exist. In the famous story of the windmill, where Don Quixote mistakes a windmill for a giant, we see that his worldview is greatly warped by the stories which he has read. In particular, campaign finance has developed extensively in the past forty years, as the courts have attempted to create federal elections that best sustain the ideals of a representative democracy. In the most recent Supreme Court decision concerning campaign finance, Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, the Court essentially decided to treat corporations like individuals by allowing corporations to spend money on federal elections through unlimited independent expenditures. In order to understand how the Supreme Court justified this decision, however, the history of campaign finance in regards to individuals must be examined. This sort of speech allows citizens to make an informed decision about which candidate they will elect. This is crucial to the operation of the government, for those who are elected will shape the nation in a profound way. As legal scholar Alexander Meiklejohn argued when explaining the necessity of protecting political speech, self governance can only exist insofar as the voters acquire the intelligence, integrity, sensitivity, and generous devotion to the general welfare that, in theory, casting a ballot is assumed to express. For these reasons, the ability to spend money on elections is essential to the First Amendment, as it allows for the communication of ideas and opinions that are crucial to democracy. The need to protect this first amendment right, however, is balanced against the need to avoid corruption in federal elections. The Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 (FECA) attempted to revamp the structure of campaign finance, particularly dealing with eliminate corrupt uses of campaign contributions. • 39. The Period Of The Edo Era During the Tokugawa era Noh continued to be an aristocratic art form supported by the shogun, the feudal aristocrats or daimyo, as well as several wealthy and more sophisticated commoners. While kabuki and joruri, popular to the middle class, focused on new and experimental entertainment, Noh strived to preserve its established high standards and historic authenticity and remained mostly unchanged throughout the era. To capture the essence of performances given by great masters, every detail in movements and positions is reproduced by others, generally resulting in an increasingly slow, ceremonial tempo. The fall of the Tokugawa shogunate in 1868 and the formation of a new government resulted in the end of financial support for Noh, and the entire field experienced major, financial crisis. Shortly after the Meiji Restoration, both the number of Noh performers and Noh stages greatly diminished for some time. The support from the imperial government was eventually regained due to Noh s appeal to foreign diplomats. The companies that remained active throughout the Meiji era also significantly broadened Noh s reach by catering to the public, performing at theatres in major cities such as Tokyo and Osaka. As the curator for the museum from 1945 to 1984, John Summerson understood that despite how deeply the criticism affected him and the limitations put on his architecture at the time, Soane was successful in achieving a sense of immortality, surviving himself in the minds and thoughts of other men, undying and imperishable (Hazlitt).
