Shorinji Kempo was introduced in India in 1988 and emphasizes going beyond martial arts to help society. It teaches energy therapy and acupressure techniques to medical practitioners and the public to cure over 350 ailments. Its reflexology courses have helped the visually impaired find jobs by teaching a vocational skill. Reflexology is gaining popularity due to its effectiveness with minimal effort. Training courses are offered in Chennai to help people and as an alternative medicine.

1. Shorinji Kempo – For the society

Eversince its introduction by Sensei Kirtie Futnani, it
was always
emphasized that
Shorinji Kempo
goes beyond
Martial Arts.
Today, Shorinji
Kempo has
certainly proved
itself to be more than a martial art. Seiho- the 3rd
branch
of Shorinji Kempo’s educational system has been
introduced in a big way to help the society. The Ki-atsu
(energy therapy) and Shi-atsu (Acupoints therapy) along
with Reflex Therapy, is being taught to medical
practitioners, paramedics, nurses and to the laymen.
At school levels
too, students are
eager to learn the
science to help
their ailing parents
or grandparents
from long term
illnesses. The simplicity of the science to cure every day
ailments that ranges to about 350 ailments, is garnering
an unprecedented interest from all walks of life.
Reflexology Courses
Shorinji Kempo’s Reflexology courses have helped the
Visually Handicapped to get jobs. The reflexology
course was designed as a vocational training to help
people get jobs and sustain a decent livelihood.
Reflexology Course gained much attention and
appreciation from the society and media.

2. Expansion of Shorinji Kempo
Kaiso Doshin So advocated that the training in
Shorinji Kempo should be like a prayer.
In remembrance of Kaiso’s words, we train each day in
Go-ho, Ju-ho and Sei-ho. Emphasizing the principles of
Ken-zen Ichinyo has brought new meaning and purpose
to each practitioner’s life.
The spiritual-martial training of
Shorinji Kempo from the Kongo
School of Zen, has brought new
life to other martial artists from
Taekwondo, Judo, Karate and
Kung Fu. This April 2014, 6
masters from other arts have
joined Shorinji Kempo after
careful selection amongst other
arts like Tai Chi, Krav Maga,
Muay Thai. The reason for
selecting Shorinji Kempo by these masters was the 3-fold
educational system (Go-ho, Ju-ho and Sei-ho) coupled
with the superior spiritual techniques of Chinkon Gyo.
The liberating effect from illnesses through the practice
of Shorinji Kempo is spreading across the society
through its practitioners. This is attracting new members
who want to live medicine-free lives in peace and
harmony.
The practical training in Self defense, without the use of
body protectors, is instilling confidence in its
practitioners. The superior techniques of Shorinji Kempo
unarmed combat system is admired and applauded by
other martial artists who have joined Shorinji Kempo
recently.
A balanced curriculum of Shorinji Kempo along with
quality training in the teachings of Kaiso Doshin So, has
led to its acceptance in the society, as the most preferred
art for non-violence.
