A shopaholic is somebody who is addicted to shopping.
Shopaholics are compulsive shoppers who suffer from
the irresistible desire to shop
How to Recognize a Shopaholic ? :
•Spending over their budget
•Buying more than what is needed
•Keeping the excessive buy a secret from friends and family
•Returning bought items because of guilt
•Alienating relationships due to a shopping preoccupation
•Preferring the use of credit cards to cash
•Shopping in order to eliminate feelings of anger, depression or loneliness
•Arguing frequently with other people about your shopping habits
•Experiencing guilt and shame after a spending spree
•Mulling over money matters
•Delaying paying bills and opening new credit accounts to allow more
shopping
Compulsive shopaholic
Usually starting off as a feeling of boredom or bout of depression, this type
of shopper gains a sense of relief shortly after making their purchases
A bulimic shopper has no problem buying items just like the compulsive shoppers do,
but it’s eventually the guilt or uneasiness that pushes them to the return counter. This
binge-spend dilemma gives a misleading feeling of jubilation followed shortly after by
pangs of shame

Trophy shopaholic
The trophy shopper doesn’t have it easy. Finding the perfect purse to go with the perfect outfit
or the perfect love chair to match your vintage couch is hard to do. Money is not an object –it’s
being unsurpassed in your ability to shine that you are really going after. If you are best
friends with all the high-end dealers in town or consider yourself having super-expensive
taste, then you may be a trophy shopaholic in disguise.
Inter-reliant shopaholic
One for the psychiatrist couch, this codependent type of shopaholic
seeks out approval from people. Shopaholics suffering from inter-
reliance can have issues with control and can feel empty inside if they
do not get support and encouragement from others. Therefore, they
do not buy for themselves, instead for others, with the hopes of
securing the relationship.

 Excitement and aproval seeking
Perfectionism
Emotional deprivations in childhood
Need to gain control
Past poverty
 Ruined relationships as a result of your
overspending.
 Debt that can take years to pay off.
 Ruining your credit can affect your ability to
make more important purchases later in life.
 Feelings of guilt and worthlessness, because
you can't buy true happiness and all of your
purchases are temporary
•Talk to psychologist
•Ask for family and friend’s support
•Leave the credit cards at home
•Use the “24-hour Rule”
When you see something expensive that you think
you “must” have. For an unplanned purchase, be
willing to wait for just one day, and tell yourself that
if you still really want the item, you can always go
back and get it the next day. In many cases, that 24-
hour cooling off period will be just the break you
need to not indulge
•Channel your energy
Find alternative things to do to replace
your shopping trips
Shopaholic like to buy something for themselves to balance
their own needs but they only increase their debt and they
suffer, so they need a suitable treatment. For example, they
can talk to psychologist or do more exercise to relax, but they
need more care and support from their family and friends.

  • 2. Définition : A shopaholic is somebody who is addicted to shopping. Shopaholics are compulsive shoppers who suffer from the irresistible desire to shop

How to Recognize a Shopaholic ? : •Spending over their budget •Buying more than what is needed •Keeping the excessive buy a secret from friends and family •Returning bought items because of guilt •Alienating relationships due to a shopping preoccupation •Preferring the use of credit cards to cash •Shopping in order to eliminate feelings of anger, depression or loneliness •Arguing frequently with other people about your shopping habits •Experiencing guilt and shame after a spending spree •Mulling over money matters •Delaying paying bills and opening new credit accounts to allow more shopping

Compulsive shopaholic Usually starting off as a feeling of boredom or bout of depression, this type of shopper gains a sense of relief shortly after making their purchases A bulimic shopper has no problem buying items just like the compulsive shoppers do, but it’s eventually the guilt or uneasiness that pushes them to the return counter. This binge-spend dilemma gives a misleading feeling of jubilation followed shortly after by pangs of shame Bulimic Shopaholic Trophy shopaholic The trophy shopper doesn’t have it easy. Finding the perfect purse to go with the perfect outfit or the perfect love chair to match your vintage couch is hard to do. Money is not an object –it’s being unsurpassed in your ability to shine that you are really going after. If you are best friends with all the high-end dealers in town or consider yourself having super-expensive taste, then you may be a trophy shopaholic in disguise.
  • 6. Inter-reliant shopaholic One for the psychiatrist couch, this codependent type of shopaholic seeks out approval from people. Shopaholics suffering from inter- reliance can have issues with control and can feel empty inside if they do not get support and encouragement from others. Therefore, they do not buy for themselves, instead for others, with the hopes of securing the relationship.

  • 8.  Ruined relationships as a result of your overspending.  Debt that can take years to pay off.  Ruining your credit can affect your ability to make more important purchases later in life.  Feelings of guilt and worthlessness, because you can't buy true happiness and all of your purchases are temporary
  • 9. •Talk to psychologist •Ask for family and friend’s support •Leave the credit cards at home •Use the “24-hour Rule” When you see something expensive that you think you “must” have. For an unplanned purchase, be willing to wait for just one day, and tell yourself that if you still really want the item, you can always go back and get it the next day. In many cases, that 24- hour cooling off period will be just the break you need to not indulge •Channel your energy Find alternative things to do to replace your shopping trips
  • 10. Shopaholic like to buy something for themselves to balance their own needs but they only increase their debt and they suffer, so they need a suitable treatment. For example, they can talk to psychologist or do more exercise to relax, but they need more care and support from their family and friends.
