Delivering RARPA: a college-wide digital approachJisc

Supporting all learners to progress and achieve is at the heart of what Wiltshire College do, and for those who support learners on non-accredited programmes with Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement (RARPA), ensuring this is evidenced and monitored accurately is all the more important.
Tasked with developing a digital solution that learners could own, that was intuitive for support staff to manage and provided managers with instant access to insightful data, the Wiltshire College learning technologies team settled on an open source solution which is already delivering positive results since being been introduced across the college.
This session will demonstrate the Wiltshire College RARPA system from the perspective of each group of users; the students managing their own progress, the staff using the system to support their learners and the managers now with a college-wide visibility of progress. In addition the developers will also explain how all of this was achieved, and their ideas for the future.

Prof. Assen Zlatarov University-Burgas is the biggest public university in South-East Bulgaria, combining bachelor and master programs in technical, natural, social, economic, humanitarian and healthcare fields. While the quality of the learning process is highly evaluated and recognized on the national level, the academic community is aware of the necessity for improving constantly the link between the university theoretical education and the practical training. In this connection, the University has developed best practices in creating opportunities for the development of students’ practical skills. A new approach in Bulgaria has been introduced – the Dual education. This type of education was defined and confirmed by the Bulgarian legislation and the National strategy for professional education and training 2015-2020. The University community is ready to contribute to the introduction and the development of the dual education system and approved good practices by presenting a program for closer cooperation between academia and the business.
The multi-faceted academic application and interview process can be daunting for a would-be faculty member. Various factors that impact the academic application such as institution type, experience, research interests, and long-term career goals will be explored in the context of finding an appropriate fit. This two-session workshop will provide attendees with the knowledge they need to understand the academic application process and preparing for the academic interview. The first session will focus on the pre-submission process whereas the second session will review interview and negotiation strategies. We invite attendees to bring their draft application packages to receive feedback.

Marie O'Neill was the first speaker at the LAI CDG first 2022 webinar called: "Ace the Interview: All Things Applications and Interviews for Librarians!" Marie gave a list of key words when looking for an adaptable job for a librarian/information specialist. Marie then suggested how to look at transferrable skills accrued in other sectors, such as admin, data entry, etc. Marie gave a series of tips in how to tailor a CV for entry level librarianship; adding tips for a suitable Cover Letter. Marie spoke about Mentorship and how to approach it, she suggested the CILIP/LAI mentor scheme. Marie moved to give a list of tips in how to prepare an interview, including set a mock interview. Marie suggested to apply a STARSS methodology, second S for Library Strategy Plan and third S for Institutional Strategic Plan; mandatory pdfs to be familiar with for an interview. Marie mentioned Career Development Courses to be done at any stage, National Forum Digital Badge an example. Is a question at the end of an interview a must? ePortfolio something to be considered. Write your competency based answers and keep a diary.
