Creating and Understanding a Blueprint for Learning We all know the world has changed and is doing so exponentially But connecting the dots as to what the implications are for schools is challenging Lest you think this is only about technology…I hope you reconsider Certainly technology is embedded in the shift and at times drives it but Classrooms and schools are trying to respond to the needs of today’s and tomorrow’s learners I don’t have all the answers and often have more questions but we’re trying to put together some ideas and principles that we think will help schools focus their attention Dean Shareski Prairie South Administrator’s Retreat September 28,2007
Constructing Meaning Participants are asked key questions to respond to the “Did you Know” video What are some key implications for your schools? What is your school already beginning to address? What is necessary for future steps?

This is the overall guiding principles for Prairie South
Web 1.0 vs. Web 2.0 This is a starting point for change Not the be all end all Terms are markers and reflective of a changing society
Web 1.0
Still focused on experts or those will the ability to publish…small numbers
Information streamed down to classrooms Sage on the stage simply lived in cyberspace
How is this different? Digital doesn’t make it meaningful. Same process as always…it’s just digital
Web 2 point 0 Web 2.0 simply refers to the ability of anyone to publish, remix and participate fully in learning Creating knowledge is now open to everyone
Publishing is easy Empowering
Connecting is expected Your learning network is no longer confined to your class, your school, your school division or even your province
Disruptive A disruptive technology or disruptive innovation is a technological innovation, product, or service that eventually overturns the existing dominant technology or status quo product in the market.

Stupid Useless Waste of Time This is often the initial response Most adults don’t understand this kind of learning What does it have to do with real life?

How about quadratic equations?

How much learning took place here with a teacher? Who taught them this? How long would this take to learn? Why are students spending countless hours learning to do this? Feedback…audience…..fun http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Em36g-vlOY
Garden of Communication Beautiful creation using database and communication This type of work makes more sense to us but is borne from the same creative, individualized form of learning http://www.heppell.net/bva2/pages/ravensbournecollege1.htm

We need to unlearn the idea that we are the sole content experts in the classroom, because we can now connect our kids to people who know far more than we do about the material we're teaching. http://www.flickr.com/photos/patrick_q/98179665/ Will Richardson says:
