This document provides an overview of key features of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) in SharePoint, including taxonomy (managed metadata), document sets, document ID, and in place record management. It defines ECM as a formalized means of organizing and storing an organization's documents and content related to its processes. It describes taxonomy as allowing the creation of a hierarchical collection of centrally managed terms that can be used as attributes for items to provide consistent tagging. Document sets are described as allowing documents to be treated as a single entity or individually. Document ID provides each document a unique identifier. In place record management allows records to be declared and padlocked in the library they were created in.
