3. Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.)
World's fourth-largest staple food, follow by rice, wheat and maize.
World
Annual Production : 381,682,000 (Thousand Tonnes)
(FAO, 2014)
Pakistan
Cultivated Area: 179.3 (Thousand Hectares)
Annual production 3,849.5 (Thousand Tonnes)
(PBS 2016-17)
8. Incidence caused by Potato Black Scurf
Black scurf is very important disease of potato caused by Rhizoctonia
solani.
World
First observed by Julias Kuhn in 1858.
Pakistan
In Pakistan, it was reported by Geddes in 1989.
Incidence
World
Black scurf can cause 35 % incidence globally.
(Olanya et al., 2009)
Pakistan
65.55 % incidence reported in Punjab zone and 12.82 % incidence in
Northern areas.
(Rauf et al., 2007)
9. OBJECTIVE
To find out resistant source against Black scurf
To check the efficacy of chemical against the Black scruf
10. For disease severity following disease rating scale was used:
0= no symptoms
1= less than 1 % area affected
2= 1-10 % area affected
3= 11-20 % area affected
4= 21-50 % area affected
5= above 50 % area affected
Whereas
1 = Resistant, 2 = Moderately resistant,
3 = Moderate susceptible, 4= susceptible,
5= Highly susceptible
(Ahmed et al., 1995)
11. Materials and Methods
No of cultivars = 20
Design = Randomized Complete Block
Design
Replications = 20
(Rauf et al., 2007)
12. Data was recorded according to following
parameters:
Disease incidence = No. of infected tubers X 100
Total no. of Tubers
Disease severity = infected Poration X 100
Total Portion
