                        Structured Learning Episode
                 Session 1 – Physical Education Curriculum



Topic: Module 1: Fitness and Module 2: Arnis
Time: 3 hours
Resources Needed:
      Laptop, LCD projector, Kali sticks/rattan sticks, meter stick, stop watch

Objectives:
      At the end of the session, the participants will be able to
      • express understanding of Physical Fitness concepts and parameters
      • demonstrate suggested warm up, stretching and physical fitness test
      • Execute with confidence the fundamental skills of arnis

Introduction:
      Physical Fitness will help develop fitness and health of the learners and
      will instill active lifestyle habits for lifelong fitness through providing
      physical experiences.

      Arnis is a Filipino Martial Art that can be performed individually or with a
      partner using stick or pair of sticks for striking and blocking. It can also be
      used for self defense.

      Priming
           Show video clip of Milo commercial.
            Ask the participants to relate the video clip to personal practice in
         teaching Physical Education

      Note: Connect this to K to12, as something new in curriculum.

          I.   Activity
               Say: In this activity, you will also engage in mental activity.
           SAVE THE MONKS EXERCISE
Divide the group into four.
       Have the two groups do the Save the Monks Exercise. Their
       goal is to bring the monks to the other side of the river. The
       other two groups will serve as observers of the Save the monks
       exercise with Group 2 observing Group 1 and Group 4
       observing Group 3.
       Allow each group present the steps Groups 1 and 3 took to
       accomplish the Save the Monks Exercise.


II.       Analysis
       1. How do you feel abut the activity?
       2. How do you come up with one answer in the group?


III.      Abstraction
          Present and discuss the Physical Education Curriculum
             a. Overview of Physical Education Curriculum
             b. Module 1: Fitness
             c. Module 2: Individual/ Dual Sports ( Arnis )

IV.       Application
          Workshop on the following:
          a. Suggested static and dynamic warm up
          b. Physical Fitness Test
          c. Basic skills of Arnis
