5. • The Batang Empowered and
Resilient Team or BERT program
was established in 2014. It was
introduced and cascaded to 40
Pilot Schools in Region III
through Education Safe From
Disasters project. This year
(2023), the DepEd Region III
issued a Regional Memorandum
No. 19 s. 2023 “Institutionalizing
BERT in all Public School in
Region III”.

What are the qualities that BERT Peer Facilitators should
have?
15. • Lead in the implementation of BERT training using
the BERT modules and session guides develop by
SCP in School.
• Help other children to learn about DRR-CCA
through BERT Sessions and Roll out
• Participate in DRR planning sessions of the school.
• Assess the risk and hazard present in their school
through conducting school safety assessment and
hazard mapping (SWAPP)
• Be a role model with their classmate, schoolmates
and other children in the community.
• Be the voice of children regarding the issues and
concern they are facing both in their school and
community.
• Be advocates of the rights of every children.
• Initiate DRR-CCA related activities in their school.

16. • Support the BERT facilitators during the
conduct of different activities
• Encourage the BERT Facilitators to help and
share their knowledge and learnings to their
fellow pupils, and family members.
• Support School DRR Coordinator in
coordinating with school head, teachers,
barangay officials, parents and children and
other related stakeholders about the
program schedules and activities and ensure
the participation of the those people.
• Coach and mentor the BERT Facilitators
• Facilitate the selection of the BERT second
liners.
• Ensure the sustainability of BERT in the
schools.

20. • Divide the participants into two groups
(depends on the total number of participants)
• Each group will be given equal number of manila
paper/bond papers and masking tape.
• Create a tower within 15 minutes. They should
create a strong and tallest tower.
• The group who created a taller and stronger
tower will be declared as the winner.

21. • Divide the participants into two groups (depends on the
total number of participants) forming a line
• Each group will be given equal number of bond papers and
pencil.
• The facilitator will ask the participant at the end of the line
to draw a certain object. And they would send the message
to other participants through their drawings. No one is
allowed to talk.
• The group who could guess the object in the drawing will get
a score.
