- 4. Principle 1: Set goal(s)
- 5. What’s the big picture? • Talk to the person next to you: what do we want to achieve by conducting the projects below? 1. Recruitment campaign for Rising Leaders Programme 2. Conducting interviews 3. Welcome events for schools
- 6. Principle 2: Identify starting points “How far are we from delivering our project?” Base this on the resources (or ingredients) you have, before creating starting the plan (or writing your recipe) What do I mean by resources in this case?
- 7. Principle 3: Close the gap
- 8. Project leadership – Gantt chart • Gantt charts are essential project tools for Team Up • Way of visualising a project from start to finish • Contains tasks, people assigned to them, start and finish date, and progress metrics week-by-week (Principle 4)

What is expected of your Project Gantt • Ensure that the column headings provided are copied and pasted in • Each key activity should be broken down into a series of tasks • Each task should have: – one or more people assigned to it – a measurable progress metric – expected duration of the task highlighted in blue

- Set Goal(s) – define exactly what the leader hopes to achieve2. Identify starting point(s) – work out how far the leader is from achieving the goals3. Close the gap – to identify the activities that need to be completed to ‘close the gap’ between principle 1 and 24. Measure Progress – work out whether the activities have achieved the goal5. Pivot or Persevere – action plans following the outcome of principle 4. In this context pivot means to change goal because the current goal has been achieved and persevere means to continue working on the current goal because it is yet to be achieved 6. Engage - effectively communicate principles 1-5 to your group by differentiating to their needs, preparing resources and making plans for unexpected circumstances7. Develop – identify the areas of improvement for each of the above principles. In this context the leader would identify which activities worked well and how they could be differentiated or improved.
- Also, start to jot down what tasks are involved in each, how long they’ll take, how many will be assigned to them
- Resources means: time, budget, people available, materials
