Get Ahead of a Crisis: Leveraging Social Media to Defuse Damaging SituationsSandra Fathi
Sandra Fathi, president of the PR and social media firm Affect, gave a presentation on leveraging social media for crisis communications. She outlined the 4 phases of crisis response - readiness, response, reassurance, and recovery. Fathi discussed developing crisis plans, toolkits, and standard communications for each phase. She provided examples of how companies like Taco Bell, Nutella, and Con Edison used social media effectively during crises. Fathi's presentation aimed to help organizations get ahead of damaging situations and diffuse crises.
Safecast Report 2016 - Executive SummaryAzby Brown
1) Safecast is a citizen science project that collects environmental data through mobile and stationary sensors. It has grown significantly since 2011 and now has over 43 million radiation measurements spanning over 70 countries.
2) Safecast classifies its projects into three categories: Drivecast for mobile sensors, Pointcast for stationary sensors, and Pocketcast for sensors that pair with mobile devices. Its flagship mobile radiation sensor is the bGeigie Nano.
3) In addition to continuing mobile and stationary radiation measurement, Safecast aims to improve sensor sharing, measure entire cities, and publish its first peer-reviewed scientific paper on its methodology.
This document provides an executive summary of the Safecast Report, which details the ongoing work of the Safecast project and the situation at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant five years after the disaster. The summary highlights that Safecast continues to develop open source radiation monitoring hardware and software, collect and share radiation measurement data, and conduct outreach activities. It also provides an overview of key issues still facing the Fukushima cleanup such as decommissioning plans, water management challenges, and environmental remediation efforts.
This document promotes a mobile application that provides live production insights and wind conditions from wind farms to neighboring communities. The app aims to increase transparency and community involvement, which are important for gaining social support for wind energy projects. It displays real-time data on energy production, wind conditions, and carbon savings. It also provides news, FAQs, and a way to contact the wind farm.
Liberty Mutual and The Co-Operators have implemented e-signature solutions across their enterprises. Liberty Mutual initially used e-signatures for a few processes but has expanded use to over 50 business units. They have seen benefits like faster processing, reduced costs, and improved customer experience. The Co-Operators also implemented an e-signature solution enterprise-wide and has experienced efficiencies through automation and digitization of document-based processes.
Mobile vs Social by Bart Fussel on Social Strategy Summit 2014aFrogleap
This document discusses mobile vs social and how they can be combined. It notes that many people now use mobile apps and social media on their phones. It then discusses some key points around mobile usage trends, the importance of good user experience across devices, and how social connections both online and offline are typically fewer than people's online social media friends. The document proposes that mobile apps can benefit from adding social features to increase relevancy for users and activate them through social interactions within apps.
The document discusses how smart ICT can be leveraged to improve various areas like urban planning, disaster risk reduction, healthcare, and agriculture. It provides examples of how instrumentation, interconnection, and intelligence through technologies like sensors, cloud computing, and data analytics can help create smarter cities, healthcare systems, and farms. The key is applying these smart ICT principles and technologies to help deliver services more efficiently and enable inclusive growth.

The document discusses how technology has improved state emergency operations centers (EOCs) and disaster response. It notes that just a few years ago, many EOCs lacked technology, but they have since adopted specialized emergency management software and systems to help prepare for, respond to, recover from, and mitigate disasters. This technology provides key information and creates a common operating picture that allows for faster, more effective, and more cost-efficient disaster response. Examples like Florida's use of mapping software to track the Deepwater Horizon oil spill are provided to illustrate how technology has enhanced situational awareness and disaster coordination.
With a record-breaking 1,300 respondents, the 2015 Future of Open Source Survey results highlight record levels of corporate participation in open source, as well as the greater impact OSS is having on technology and security. Yet, this year's results also reveal a reported lack of formal company policies and processes for consuming and managing open source and its associated legal, operational, and security risks.

The CCAGG (Concerned Citizens of Abra for Good Government) was formed in 1986 to monitor elections and government projects in Abra, Philippines. CCAGG grew from mobilizing communities at the municipal level to conducting third-party monitoring of infrastructure projects funded by the Community Employment Development Program. This involved training members, monitoring project implementation, and filing administrative charges for falsified completion reports. CCAGG's efforts helped mainstream transparency and accountability in Abra and expanded their monitoring to other sectors. Over time, CCAGG also broadened their reach to influence policies and programs at the regional, national, and international levels.

This document defines and discusses key concepts related to social movements. It provides definitions of social movements as forms of collective action to address shared problems, noting they have a common political agenda, visible membership, and engage in collective actions over time to pursue goals. Non-governmental organizations are distinguished as voluntary service providers, while people's organizations have membership and promote members' interests. Civil society is described as the autonomous realm between the state and private sectors. The document concludes with an example of the successful social movement that overthrew the Marcos dictatorship in the Philippines.
This document outlines an open legislation commitment for the Philippine Open Government Partnership (OGP) at the subnational level. The commitment aims to institutionalize open local legislative processes in Bohol province and select municipalities. It seeks to increase citizen participation in local legislation through public awareness, online platforms, and engagement spaces. The commitment will launch official Facebook accounts for legislative bodies, post proposed ordinances online for comment, and engage civil society partners. It has activities and milestones scheduled from July 2017 to June 2019. The overall goal is to create a more accessible and transparent local government through open legislative processes.

4. What have we proven/ disproven about the use of
digital technologies in advancing responsive and
accountable governance?
´ Most technology developers focus on the ideal tech design/
configurations and deploy it immediately. According to our
comparative analysis with some existing tech developments
deployed in the province, which resulted to people, NOT using the
development. As tech developers we have to take into account
factors like people’s capacity, culture, infrastructure, and be
prepared to rollout the technology gradually. This way, we got higher
usage and we had better engagement with the local government.
5. ´ In your implementation strategy, do not just isolate the problem you
are trying to address. In real life, the fate and sustainability of your tech
solution most likely will lie on how well you can integrate your solution
with the entire context (existing infrastructure, local culture, other
problems the community faces, etc.) In OUR case, we hinged
Balangay’s sustainability at first with the local private sector’s need for
the city to be more attractive to investors. So we framed Balangay as a
tech solution which can help ease the investors’ worry about the city
having the Mayon Volcano and being prone to typhoons and other
risks. From there we engaged with more and more sectors, partners,
aligning our goals until eventually we got the Cloud Legazpi Smart City
contract.
