What kinds of support do LGBTQ youth want? We asked them and found they want help meeting social and emotional needs. For many youth, traditional support groups at bricks and mortar LGBTQ centers are inaccessible due to geography, transportation, and psychological barriers, but a virtual support group can be a strong alternative. They want a space where they can get support for the challenges they may face including decisions about coming out; bullying or violence; family rejection; increased risk of pregnancy; and high rates of HIV and STDs among teen MSM. To help meet these needs, in partnership with other LGBTQ youth serving organizations, we will launch a digital center for LGBTQ youth and their families to access support groups and resources. Come hear our results of talking to 92 LGBTQ young people as well as lessons learned from and progress on development of the digital center.
