- 1. HWS CORPS Virtual Tutoring Program FALL 2020 AND SPRING 2021 AMERICA READS: THE PANDEMIC VERSION

Pre-Pandemic America Reads Tutoring Program In-person at local schools Before and after school Pre-determined literacy curriculum (created by Charlie Temple and MAT and TEP students) 3-4 hours a week/paid Grant through the Federal America Reads Program Limited number of sites Focus mainly on literacy with some homework help and mentoring

During the Pandemic America Reads Virtual Tutoring Program All virtual/Over Zoom Available tutoring times: 9 a.m.-7 p.m./ 7 days a week Focused on home work help/general subject skills/organization 4 hours a week/paid Grant through the Federal America Reads Program Around 100 parents (sites) each semester
- 4. Safety challenges: Very intimate despite the distance Minors on campus trainings Background checks Zoom session recordings uploaded and stored in Box Professional Development/Trainings Coordinator oversight Trauma/anxiety/depression: Hard to manage online without school involved

Communication issues: Not who you’d think HWS tutors were, overall, spectacular at email communication Parents—not so much Missed appointments/No responses Waiting list presented new challenges (Fall/Spring) Creation of long list of Professional Development opportunities to make up for missed tutoring sessions
