Serbia is a continental country located in Southeastern Europe. It has an area of 88,360 km2 and a population of around 6.9 million people. Belgrade is the capital city. 2. BASIC INFORMATION
• Serbia is a continental country located between 41 ° 53 ′
and 46 ° 11 ′ north latitude and 18 ° 49 ′ and 23 ° 00 ′ east
longitude. Due to the part of the Pannonian plain in the
north, it also belongs to the region of Central Europe. The
length of Serbia's borders is 2114.2 km. European traffic
corridors 7 (Dunav) and 10 (road and rail) cross the
territory of Serbia and intersect in Belgrade, the capital. It
is the only European capital through which two
international rivers flow, the Dunav and the Sava.

3. The Black Sea basin covers
92.5% of the waters in Serbia,
the longest rivers are the
Dunav, Sava, Velika Morava,
Timok, Drina.
The Aegean basin covers 2.1% of the
waters of Serbia, encompasses the
south of Serbia, and the rivers
Dragovištica, Pčinja and Lepenca
belong to the Aegean basin. It is
mostly a mountainous landscape.
Some rivers are used to
supply settlements and
industry, and the Dunav,
Drina and Zapadna Morava
have hydropower potential.
The Adriatic basin covers 5.4% of the
waters of Serbia, the waters of the
Metohija valley and its mountain rim
flow through the White Drim and then
into the Adriatic Sea.

• "Kopaonik" - 173 different plants live
here, 30 of which are protected, some
special Pančić spruce and Kopaonik
violet. Protected animal species: gray
falcon, golden eagle, owl, wild cat and
deer.
6. NATIONAL PARKS OF SERBIA
• "Djerdap" - This is the largest national park in
Serbia, which in addition to the Medieval Fortress
Golubac and the archaeological site Lepenski vir has
to offer a beautiful view of nature.
• Lepenski Vir is considered by many archaeologists
to be the cradle of European civilization because
the found architectural remains and artifacts date
from the period between 7000 and 6500 BC.
7. NATIONAL PARKS OF SERBIA
• “Šar Planina” - is considered the most
important protected ecological area of
biodiversity in the central Balkans with
over 200 species of birds, many animal
species and 147 species of butterflies. On
the Sar mountain is also the highest peak
in Serbia, Velika Rudoka with 2658m

• "Fruska gora" - In this national park you can see 16 Orthodox monasteries
built in the 15th and 16th centuries.
There are several archeological sites on the mountain.
9. NATIONAL PARKS OF SERBIA
"Tara" - This national park has an area with
almost 1200 plant species, of which 84 are Balkan
and 6 are East Dinaric endemics. The average
altitude is 1,200 m, and the highest peak Kozji rid
reaches 1,591 m.
10. RELIGION
The largest Orthodox church in the
Balkans, the Church of Saint Sava, is
one of the main landmarks of
Belgrade and Serbia. The Valjevo
Church of the Resurrection of the
Lord is the second largest in Serbia.

Apart from these temples, the largest Serbian endowments in the form
of monasteries are the Manasija Monastery, the Ljubostinja Monastery,
Đurđevi stupovi, Studenica, Gračanica, Visoki Decani, Zica, Mileseva, the
Krušedol Monastery, which is a female monastery like many others.

Serbian folk dances are the
name for Serbian folk
dances. Cultural and artistic
societies are quite numerous
among Serbs and are
considered organizations of
national importance for the
preservation of traditional
values, they are under the
auspices of state, regional
and municipal institutions.
13. Glory, also known as baptismal glory, baptismal name, saint, is
a Serbian folk-church custom which, after Easter and
Christmas, is the third most important family holiday, always
connected with the day of a certain Christian saint. It is so
characteristic of Serbs that it is a sign of their recognition and
identification. This unique form of family tradition among
Serbs is present from the period before Christianization, when
it was related to the cult of family ancestors.

Food preparation is a special part of
Serbian tradition and culture. Serbian
cuisine is characterized by a very diverse,
strong and spicy food, which could roughly
be said to be a combination of Greek,
Bulgarian, Turkish and Hungarian cuisine. It
is dominated by the use of meat, dough,
vegetables and dairy products.
