Google believes that companies should give customers control and empowerment. When companies do this, customers will use that power in a constructive way. However, when companies try to maintain control over customers, it often backfires. Specifically, Google thinks companies should:
1. Give customers control over their experiences with the company and trust that customers will use that control responsibly.
2. Recognize that unhappy customers can become a company's best advocates if the company listens and addresses their concerns.
3. View customers not just as people to sell to, but as partners in building a business.
