5. Homework Classwork
• “Theater of the Mind”
• How did that go?
• Compose a personal list of times when things went
extraordinarily well for you, when your performance or
achievement was even a little above your expectations.
“Good for me!”
• Let‟s do some more of that now
• “Our Capacity is Highly Elastic” (music break)
• Table discussion
• and sharing with the group
6. Maltz on the “Performance Thermostat”
• “The self-image then controls what you
can and cannot accomplish, what is
difficult or easy for you, even how
others respond to you just as certainly
and scientifically as a thermostat
controls the temperature in your home”
• “The New Psycho-Cybernetics” 2001, Maxwell Maltz edited and updated by Dan S. Kennedy, page 3
• Reactions?
7. What controls the „Thermostat‟?
• Personally held beliefs, attitudes and habits
reinforce and maintain our current self image.
• We have an extremely strong instinct to stay closely
inside the comfort zone that is embodied within our
image of self.
• ( Remember the current Self Image originated largely from
authoritative, emotional and repeated experiences we internalized,
that were likely unintentional and not founded on our true capacity)
• What about Changing the Temperature?
8. Where would I Start? Balance Wheel
• Explore and articulate any components of your self image, beliefs,
attitudes or habits that correlate with areas on the Balance wheel,
both where there is dissatisfaction and satisfaction with your
achievement in those areas. What‟s “LIKE ME” or “NOT LIKE ME”?
9. If You‟re Stuck and need a Breakthrough
Reflect on this “Do I have to or do I want to?”
10. Embrace a New Normal
Allow it
• You don‟t „Have To‟, however if you want to you can change the
way you think, change the way you talk to yourself and others
towards a better future, a much more satisfying New Normal
11. Start Putting it Together
• Keep adding to your “Good for Me” list
• This is your new emotional reservoir
• Run these in “Theater of the Mind”
• Reflect and refine your Balance Wheel
• Let this lead you to
examine your Purpose
• Question the things that were said to
you as a child. Start to say to yourself
what should have been said to you.
12. Home Work
• Jim Stovall - The Spider Monkey story “In my own life,
what is it that I am holding on to that is keeping me
from everything I‟ve ever wanted?” Think and Write.
• Expand your “Good for me!” list and notice your
emotions as you reflect on these successes. Pair
those feelings with your Affirmations.
• Rework your balance wheel, reflecting on the
alignment of your Affirmations to your life‟s voyage.
• Create theater in your mind from Me, to Community

Theater of the Mind – If anyone experimented with this, or read more about it, would you care to share with us all?How might the ‘Theater of the Mind’ work for you in your life today? OPEN DISCUSSIONFor those of us familiar with AFFIRMATIONS, how is this similar and how is it different? Doing someCLASSWORK nowHow about composing and adding to that list of personal success memories? “Capacity is Elastic” – Music – write some more – consider writing things you’d feel good about sharing laterHow did that go? Was anything hard or difficult about it?What would you share?
Though I most recently bought “The New Psycho-Cybernetics” 2001, this information dates to the original work published in 1960Does anyone find this difficult to believe or accept? Why? What else could be responsible for your ability to accomplish various things? What about accidents? What if you were injured seriously as a child? Some People would argue “Are there NOT things outside our control that affect and influence what we can and cannot do?”Unlike some people in Self Image field, I DO believe there are extenuating outside circumstances. It’s how you react that matters. Look at Jim Stovall as a prime example.
OK, so exclusive of uncontrollable circumstances, childhood injury, progressive blindness, etc. we know that BELIEFS, ATTITUDES and HABITUAL BEHAVIOR control the performance thermostat. Most of these date back a long time ago, and most were acquired by happenstance NOT by intent.Who would care to talk about this from their own personal perspective?I can tell the story of being 6 years old and learning from Louella,my mother that “WE COULDN’T AFFORD TO GET SICK”Beliefs may combine Both Positve and Negative AspectsI’m Poor Paired but Contrasted I Stay Healthy
