Signing Exact English is a manually coded language system developed in 1972 to represent English word-for-word through the use of handshapes, placements, and movements. It uses 70 affixes added to American Sign Language signs to convey grammatical functions like pluralization, possession, and verb tenses. While not as widely adopted as other systems, Signing Exact English provided publications and resources to represent English linguistics visually through sign.
