Youtube Pros Learn different styles. Teaches you different facial, gestures and body expressions . Help you become fluent. Cons Some signs are incorrect. It cannot communicate with you!
Difference between ASL,ESL, & PSE. ASL ESL/ SEE (Signed Exact English) Signed Exact English developed by hearing educators for teaching English language in school settings. These systems use English word order. Best used for educational purposes. Usually encouraged communicating to help deaf people an actual language with its own vocabulary, grammar, and syntax. The "sentence" structure is not the same as spoken/written English. Faster to communicate Little confusing if you’re new to it. PSE: Pidgin (NOT "pigeon", smile) A "contact" language that bridges communication between ASL and SEE users. This form of communication varies on the sign language continuum. If you picture strict SEE on the far left point of a line, and pure ASL on the far right point, PSE fills the whole range in between. Some users have a higher percentage SEE, some have a higher percentage ASL. Mixes some English word order with some ASL signs and classifiers.
So when can I use it?Depends on the age group Older Deaf who were exclusively educated at residential schools tend to prefer ASL. Younger Deaf, educated thru "mainstream" programs grow up without the tight Deaf community to reinforce common language and goals. So generally they would use SEE or PSE. Check out this link to see the difference between the two… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6drv_kpqw8&feature=related
