4. Singapore as a Transport Hub –
Land Transport
• Improving land transport leads to efficient
movement of goods and humans.
• This promotes economic development of
the area.
• Singapore is at the tip of Peninsular
Malaysia, ready connection by road (via
causeway)
• Land transport is lowest in cost.
• Presence of world-class port is used by
regional countries for trade.
6. Land Transport
• Asian Highway network links Singapore
through to Thailand.
• North-south highway in Malaysia
facilitates quick movement of goods down
to Singapore for export.
• Development of train route from
Singapore to Kunming (Southern China)
will further facilitate the movement of
goods and people across the land.
8. Sea Transport
• Singapore is located at the crossroads of major
international shipping routes.
• Naturally deep, sheltered harbour with clam
waters.
• Regional Cruise centre
• Singapore Cruise Centre (harbourfront)
• Marina Cruise Centre
• World class port facility
• PSA the world’s top ‘catch-up port’
• Port facilities able to help catch up the time that
might be lost due to other delays en route.
12. Air Transport
• Singapore is also the hub of air transport in Asia.
• Changi International Airport
• World class airport
• 3 terminals with the forth under construction.
• Over 81 airlines to 185 cities are connected
through Changi International airport.
• Cargo freight amount has also been increasing
rapidly.
14. Role of Government and
Entrepreneurs
• Government agencies maintain, develop and
promote Singapore as a transport and
communications hub.
• Land Transport Authority (LTA); Maritime and
Port Authority (MPA); Civil Aviation Authority of
Singapore (CAAS).
• Government provides grants for businesses who
show potential in growing these sectors to
encourage their development.
15. Communications hub
• Fibre optics cable network
• Islandwide Fibre optics network completed in
2011.
• High speed internet ready as an island.
• Regulated and safe internet environment
managed by the authorities.
• Infocomm Development Authority (IDA)
oversees the development of Singapore as a
communications hub.
