Starter – recap on resource 3 – the
                Housing crisis
Complete the mind map individually to detail why we have a
housing crisis in the Uk. Use figures if you can to enhance your
points. 6 – 7 minutes.

Task one
NIMBY – Add 2 or 3 reasons why this person might object
to a settlement being built in the area pictured.
4 minutes.    Task three – annotate resource 4
                   with a definition of what
                 “sustainable” means to you.

Features of a sustainable settlement
 Study resource 4 and then match up numbers to letters. 6 – 7 minutes.




Task four
Benefits of sustainability
  Annotate resource 4 of your booklet with extended information to
 explain the benefits of each aspect of sustainability. 7 - 8 minutes. An

Task five
An audit of Carterton’s sustainability
Complete the audit of Carterton’s sustainability and
arrive at a total score. 5-6 minutes. Your thoughts:




Extension – Add extra information to resource 5 to
explain ways in which sustainability could be improved
in Carterton.

the issue area
Some to begin to identify areas of differential impact and relate this
to habitats/environments
Who are the stakeholders?




Task eight
What about the proposed area?
• Please answer the following questions:
     1. Which areas from resource 6 might be areas of
        conflict for stakeholders? Why?
     2. Which area would suffer the least impacts if
        expansion happened there? Why?
     3. What type of habitats could be affected? Give
        grid references for examples.

• Label Resource 6 with the key human and
  physical features you can identify from the
  map or photos.

Homework
Demonstrate your learning
• Runaround! Choose a side of the room.

• Left side (your left) if you think we should build on a
  greenfield site outside Leicester.

• Right side if you think we should develop the
  settlement on the Leicester Airport site

• Why have you chosen your side?
