Josie tosses a book into a classroom cupboard without looking and is startled when a voice cries out in pain. She opens the cupboard to find Sammy, who lives inside and has adapted to be unseen. Sammy questions why she has never been seen before if she has lived there as long as she can remember. When Josie is called away by another student, she turns back to the cupboard to find Sammy has disappeared without a trace.

1. Script
INSIDE, DAYTIME
A girl walks into a classroom holding a book. She makes her way to the cupboard in the
classroom. She appears tired and absentminded. She opens the cupboard without looking
and tosses the book in. She goes to close the door and walk away but is interrupted by a
shout.
VOICE:
In an angry tone unseen by the audience
‘Hey! That hurt!’
The girl spins around, in shock, and opens the door to reveal a hunched figure of a girl
looking at her. The girl, JOSIE, is surprised.
JOSIE:
‘Who said that?’
Light flickers on.
VOICE:
In a suspicious and accusing tone.
‘I’m Sammy…who are you and what are you doing here?’
The figure stands up dressed in rags, to reveal a bed and some food, clearly an inhabited
place.
JOSIE:
‘Um no….this is a cupboard in a classroom. Do you…live here?’
SAMMY narrows her eyes.
SAMMY:
‘Of course I do? Where else am I supposed to live?’
JOSIE:
‘How long have you been here?’
SAMMY is getting visibly annoyed. She stands up to face JOSIE.
SAMMY:
‘As long as I can remember’
JOSIE:
‘How come I’ve never seen you before?’

2. SAMMY:
‘My kind have special abilities you know, we’ve adapted to be completely unseen…’
A noise of feet running down the corridor is heard and a girl appears at the doorway. JOSIE
turns away to face the doorway and pulls the door ajar.
GIRL:
‘Hey what’s taking so long? Let’s go’
JOSIE:
‘Yeah okay just a second’
The girl leaves and JOSIE turns round to face the door again. She opens it to find SAMMY
once more with a knowing smirk on her face.
SAMMY:
‘See ya!’
She clicks her fingers and disappears without a trace. JOSIE is visibly confused and slowly
shuts the door before shaking her head as if to clear a dream and leaves.
