Socrates was an influential ancient Greek philosopher from Athens who is considered one of the founders of Western philosophy. He did not write anything himself and his teachings are known through his students, particularly Plato. Socrates' method of questioning beliefs and assumptions through dialogue and rigorous logical analysis known as the Socratic method has endured as his most important contribution. He was tried and convicted for corrupting the minds of the youth of Athens and sentenced to death by drinking a poisonous hemlock juice, which he accepted to remain true to his philosophical beliefs.
