This document discusses supporting care leavers in Scotland. It summarizes the work of the Scottish Care Leavers Covenant to get organizations to endorse principles to better support care leavers. It discusses the challenges of implementing policies and the need for ongoing commitment. It also discusses moving beyond compliance to excellence and the importance of consistency, predictability, and interdependence rather than independent living for care leavers' well-being and resilience. The concept of "home" and feeling secure is discussed in relation to having a safe place with nurturing relationships.

implementing the Act needs on-going political
commitment, with leadership at national and

for independence….For most people parental
support, however intermittent carries on into
their twenties. Young people in care also need

Ubuntu
(Zulu pronunciation: [ùɓúntʼù]) is a Nguni Bantu term meaning
"humanity". It is often translated as "I am because we are," and
also "humanity towards others", but is often used in a more
philosophical sense to mean "the belief in a universal bond of
sharing that connects all humanity".

9. • The time to re-connect with roots and to seek validation of their
identities, which is deeply embedded in the need to “belong to
someone” or “be cared for by someone.”
• Reliance on others and interdependence, when extricated from
their neoliberal connotations of people having to ‘pull
themselves up by their own bootstraps’ with minimal state
intervention, are not antithetical with resilience.

values, which emphasize social connections as the crucible of
