Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy is more commonly known to...
Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy is more commonly known to humans as Mad Cow Disease or
BSE. BSE originated from scrapie or Endemic Spongiform Encephalopathy, which is a disease that
has affected mostly sheep and goats. BSE is an illness that attacks the brain and spinal cord of adult
cattle due to an infection by a transmissible agent known as a prion. Once affected by BSE cattle
began to develop strange behavior such as aggression, lack of coordination with the inability to stand
or walk, and abnormal posture; hence the name Mad Cow Disease (1).
Why BSE Should Be Eradicated
BSE is a fatal disease
BSE has been seen to progress very slowly in relation to other diseases, however is very contagious
and fatal for not only cattle, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of what many refer to as the domino effect, 90% of those infected will suffer a death within
one year (4).
Can BSE be Eradicated
A Tough Road Ahead
BSE is an extremely rare disease making it a very tough candidate for eradication. This is especially
true in humans; while still rare, BSE is much more common in cattle rather than humans. It is also
very tough to conduct studies with the rapid progression of the disease and the short lifespan of those
infected. Because the cattle commonly infected are vastly spread out between multiple countries, this
adds yet another obstacle to overcome when attempting to eradicate BSE in cattle and in return
eradicating vCJD in humans. Even with the obvious and difficult complications facing the
extermination of this disease the government and scientists have outlined a few ways to slow down the
progression and transmittal of BSE (5).
What Can Be Done Steps to Eradication
Despite the incredibly hard process ahead to eradicate BSE and vCJD here are the steps that have
already been put into place to begin the procedure. In July of 1988 a feed ban was introduced as the
key animal health control measure. The feed ban is thought to prevent the integration of conceivably
infectious material into animal feed for ruminants, and to prevent uninfected cattle from becoming ill.
The FDA decided to strengthen the 1988 rule in 1997 and 2008 by barring the use of high risk cattle
tissues in all animal feed.

The Cyclical Teen Musical Film
The Cyclical Teen Musical Film Considered by Jane Feuer to be the only form of musical that retains
widespread popularity (123), the teen musical film is a cyclical sub genre of the musical film that
keeps coming back again and again since the 1960s, proving that it is a sub genre here to stay. And
since this is a cyclical sub genre, its historical development is also cyclical in matter: it develops
slightly throughout the cycle, as per many other film genres, but always seems to return back to its
original narrative structure and conventions, even through the stylistic and sociocultural changes
throughout the decades. Each time the teen musical film has come back into mainstream popularity,
the films are always characterized by their dual focus structure primarily a male female main character
pairing and the two thematic elements typical of youth films, as described by Timothy Shary: the
growing up theme, and a conformity/rebellion binary. The only changes are caused by sociocultural
means, including, but not limited to, the Rock n Roll musicals of the 70 s, the Punk musicals
beginning in the late 70 s, and the female centered narratives of the 80s. Ever since the introduction of
sound in the late 1920s and 1930s, the film musical has been a prominent genre. However, up until the
end of the Golden Age of the film musical, the majority of these musical films produced were geared
towards an adult audience to help raise morale during the depression, World War I, and

Muir and Wordsworth Essay
Lesson 06.09 Assessment
Thesis Statement, Opening Paragraph, evidence conclusion REVISED
While both poets Muir and Wordsworth wrote about the happy feelings that they have towards nature
the beautiful outdoors or what some people may say Mother Nature, some of which the feelings are
the same and some that are different as they speak of the different plants.
In every walk with Nature one receives far more than he seeks. John Muir Nature does not only show
the beauty of the Earth, but it shows the beauty within us. So then, is it not easy to say that both of
these authors have great beauty within them? After reading both Calypso Borealis, John Muir and I

Muir creatively informs the reader just how much the main character truly loves nature. The same
marvel and beauty is shared in the poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud. After a long climb over a high
hill he finds his reward a valley shining with a huge field of daffodils. Besides the lakes, beneath the
trees, fluttering and dancing in the breeze. As Wordsworth explains the scene. As each scene pops out
of the poem, a new addition to the painting in your mind appears each time. The painting may vary
from person to person, but I believe the same sense of awe is present with every mind. The portions
cited are just the beginning of these two works; enough to splash your mind with colors and emotions,
but later parts are what truly makes them worth reading.
Calypso Borealis turns from revelation to a desperate situation. Weary and empty, the main character
prepares to spend the night in the wet swamp, in a tree nest. Just as the sun was about to set, the future
very unpredictable, when Everything seemed most dangerous and discouraging , the story continues, I
found beautiful Calypso on the mossy bank of stream. Overwhelmed by the purity and beauty of the
Calypso, he collapses by the flower and cries. This rather quick change of pace I what kept me
reading, and the fact the Calypso was so beautiful it made the main character break down in tears.
Imagine finding the glorious treasure you ve been seeking the entire time. The change of tone from

Role of International Relations
The political world has evolved and reshaped itself greatly throughout the history of mankind, with its
most important and distinctive change occurring during the period of 1945, the end of the Second
World War and 1989 which marked the end of the Cold War. The interaction of nation states is center
of politics on the international level, where the relationships of different nations dictates what events
occur in regards to, but not limited to war, peace, economic agreements, and foreign aide involvement.
These international interactions are becomingly progressively more distinguished by non government
actors such as the World Bank, and International Monetary Fund, a lesser need for military power and

Since 1945 the world has evolved immensely, with great power changes and ever changing
economies. Economic activity, in regards to expanded global trade and monetary policies being
formed, with the increased communication technology and globalization, has created a widespread
global interdependence. Nations rely more now than ever on other nation states for trade purposes to
maintain a consistent cohesion of their economies. With increased global interdependence came a
need for institutions to manage and control the actions between nation states and expand economies
into other outlets globally that were seen as foreign such as Asia and some parts of Europe . Liberal
Institutionalism, with the concept of higher need for such organizations as North American Free Trade
Agreement (NAFTA), IMF, and the World Bank, has became far more important than any need for
security and military needs that were seen at the beginning of our time scope of 1945 1989. The
Second World War was devastating to almost the entire world populace and had a crippling effect on
the world economies. It was only by the time of the Cold War that many of the nations involved in the
Second World War were beginning to reform and strengthen their economies. Germany since the war
has rebounded economically and become a strong economic powerhouse within Europe. In Asia,

Essay on Child of Rage
Child abuse casts a shadow the length of a lifetime
Herbert Ward
The documentary A Child in Rage gave me an indescribable feeling. The hardships and pain that this
little girl had to go through was completely disgusting. Because of her father s neglect, they made this
little girls life a living hell. Attachment disorder is the result of a bonding process that occurs between
a child and caregiver during the first couple years of the child s life. From the view of Mary
Ainsworth, Harry Harlow, John Bowlby and Rene Spitz attachment disorder does severe damage
depending on the child and the abuse level. This attachment break severely damages the heart and
mind. It stops the child s ability to care, love or trust. When a child ... Show more content on

All she wanted to do was kill him the animals and her parents. She didn t like people and didn t want
to be around people. Everyone uses defense mechanisms to cope with whatever is going on in their
personal lives. Why do we use them? To protect ourselves and cover up bad feelings we are having. In
this case, I don t feel like Beth used defense mechanisms. In my opinion, when Beth was doing his
mischief it was because of the things her birth father was doing to her. So if she did use a defense
mechanism I would say she used displacement. She took her anger out on the animals, her little
brother and her parents. She knew she had an upper hand on her brother because she was older and
she most likely was bigger than her animals. In the case of her parents, she would hurt them while
they were sleep which gave her the upper hand on them. The treatment for Beth s attachment disorder,
the first step was to temporarily take her out of the home with her brother and adoptive parents. She
needed to be away from them. Once this happened she moved in with a specialist that gave Beth
boundaries. Since Beth did not trust anyone, they didn t not trust her so she was given these
boundaries and chores to start her on her treatment. Whenever she wanted to do something that was
out of the eye sight of her guardian she had to ask permission. If she

Passover Tradition
Using Christ s last Passover meal, where He introduced the first instance of what is now the Lord s
Supper, as an example, we see that since AD 30 it has continued to evolve into a tradition that no
longer closely resembles the original one of 1446 B.C. Today, the holiday is becoming even more
individualistic, while still holding traditional values. Likewise, the Christian Communion has changed
considerably. For years it was observed, like the one in the Upper Room following Jesus resurrection.
Then when the Church began to move out of people s homes and into buildings, the meal was
discontinued. Today, in some Christian faiths, there is tremendous ritual and rules. In others, it is very
informal. Communion elements in prepackaged individually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Quite often the only aspect of the ritual that resembles the first is the quoting of the Scripture. Yet, that
is rather remarkable considering the historical timeline of the Christian faith through centuries of
changes.
The exegesis of this passage brings to light many important principles. First, the tradition of Passover
is nearly 3500 years old. Through devout practitioners, certain elements of the tradition have
continued against all odds, especially the recounting of historic events and the focus on hope and
thanksgiving. Second, the tradition of remembering Jesus sacrifice on the cross through thanksgiving,
breaking bread and drinking of the cup has continued for over 2000 years. Readings from Scripture,
whether from Matthew, Mark, Luke, John or 1 Corinthians, keeps the tradition alive. It is a reminder
of deliverance from sin and death and the promise of eternal salvation. Third, it is suggested that Jesus
will at some point again eat of the Passover meal, although it is uncertain if that is literal, figurative or
both. This speaks to the Jewish Christian that the Passover observance is not to be discontinued.
Fourth, it begs the question: Were the

Why Curfew Hourss Are Important For Teens
The ways teens act nowadays are really diverse between the new and old. Curfew hours are really
important for teens and their own safety.Although they are home certain times, this does not
necessarily mean their actions are appropriate. The curfew law restriction shouldn t change at all, even
though people complain. Having the juvenile under control can have mutual responsibilities. The most
critical issue for not following the curfew hours can lead to many consequences. The time limit can
have lots of causes and effects within teens.Curfew times are good to have to help teens from getting
into dangerous situations, the lost of education, and the mutual amount of safety at the time. Curfew

Birth Order and the Effect on Your Personality
Birth order and the effect it has on your personality
Some parents often wonder, what, if any, effect birth order will have on their children s personalities.
Genetic factors and other influences play a significannot role, but the birth order within the family
plays a larger role in determining the personality of children. Countless academic studies say your
place in the family is such a strong factor in developing your personality that it can have a major
influence on the rest of your life. Alfred Adler, an Austrian psychiatrist and former disciple of Freud,
acknowledge environmental influences such as social class, geographic origin and relationship with
parents as factors in the development of personality. But it was birth order ... Show more content on

It can cause a lot of stress on the child. Some of the solutions that Wallace suggested was to be alert to
the child s reaction when a new baby is brought home. Address the feelings that the child has about
the birth of the new sibling right then to prevent hostility, anger and resentment later on. Parents
should treat the kids equally, neither will feel resentment for the other nor be able to claim that one is
getting special treatment (Payton). Middle children are often left feeling like the odd one out, not
having the attachment to their parents that their older sibling has but also not being the baby of the
family, who gets the attention heaped on them. This often provokes attention seeking behavior and can
lead to depression or even paranoia in later life (Udall). Many middle children feel overshadowed by
their older and younger siblings. Their efforts to compensate often affect their personality
development ( Parenting Children ). With parents less available to them than to first born, middle
children seem to be more laid back in achievement and more relaxed. Sometimes they need to be
manipulative to satisfy their needs and are good diplomats and quite friendly ( Birth order and your
child ). The middle child tends to be a mediator and negotiator (Payton). The intensity of their struggle
for identity as a middle child will depend on the sex of the child. If

The Parable Of The Sower
In His teachings, Christ used parables to pass earthly stories with a heavenly meaning to the multitude.
He used parables in His teachings to not only fulfill prophecy but also to enlighten the true hearted to
challenge hardened hearts of the people (Matt. 13:34 35, KJV). Among His parables, the parable of
the sower was the parable inclusive of other parables (soil grounds and the sower) making it one of the
main parables of Christ. Four different soils were used to represent four different kinds of people and a
sower was to represent a teacher of the word of God. The parable of the sower therefore compares
various types of human nature, as the soil grounds and the attitude of people towards the teachings of
Christ.
The seeds that fell on the rocky soil represented the expressive people with a shallow and superficial
belief in Christ s teachings (Matt. 13:5 6, KJV). Christ clarified that the people who receive the word
with joy but turn away when difficulty or persecution comes are emotional as they try to do what they
feel is right in their own way. This explains their lack of commitment towards the teachings of the
word and shallow fading interest soon. Jesus meant to teach that the disciples should preserve and
never to give up by having a strong faith in Him (Colossians 2:6, KJV). The defiant kind of people
with fixed mind and prejudice about the teachings were represented by the seeds that fell on the path
(Matt. 13:3 4, KJV). Christ described the people who could hear

Society In The French Society Of The 14th Century
Intro, The French society of the 14th Century was very hierarchal and had a strict structure of people
at the top, the Royal House of Capet/ Valois, and the peasants at the bottom, this is called Feudalism.
Religion was a big part of society in the 14th Century and really until the French Revolution, France
was a very strong Catholic nation. France s like most of Europe at the time had a very agricultural
economy. The 14th Century was a time of turmoil, diminished expectations, loss of confidence in
institutions, and feelings of helplessness at forces beyond human control This is how the 14th century
is described, this is due to the amount of changes the whole of Europe went through, from changing
borders, natural disasters, and social unrest. Black Death, The Black death is described by Gottfried as
being the Greatest natural disaster in European history. Philip Daileader estimates 45% 50% of the
population of Europe dead while Ole Benedictow has 60%, and as the population of all of Europe was
80 million, that is 50 million people, however Philp Ziegler says that figures during the middle ages
are hazardous as people did not keep a complete record, but around a third of Europe died. These
figures, although they are for all of Europe shows that the Black Death played a dramatic part in
French society as many of those would haven been peasants who worked the land. In parts of France
they blamed the English for spreading the plague, due to the ongoing war between the two nations,
this caused further tension between the two countries. The Plague first struck Europe in 1347 while
France and England were at war this allowed the plague to spread more quickly. The famine that had
started in 1333 had ended recently which meant crop production and the reverse of grain had not yet
recovered causing more deaths. The economy for most countries had started to become crippled as
they lost a lot of people who worked the land, however most countries the wages of workers improved
as landowners needed people to work the land, labour became more mobile as people moved to where
the conditions were more favourable . People s view on religion also started to change as The Catholic
Church suffered a credibility loss

The Social Aspects Of Health And Diseases
#2. Every person is shaped by his/her life experiences and life history. As a result, one s social, and in
this context, medical, situation is highly contingent on the different life experiences a patient has been
exposed to. As C. Wright Mills coined the term, Sociological Imagination, MD students today should
abide by his sentiment in placing the individual self apart from the typical and habitual patterns in a
given society. One must step out of his/her own bubble to see the world for greater than what they are
constrained to. The MD students should be able to value the importance placed on the social aspects
of health and diseases, for it is true that what is considered an illness in one society, may be seen as a
blessing in another. One must value the patient s perspectives according to their life history. It all
comes down to context. For example, today s modern world is so technologically advanced that one
may be able to go online WebMD to evaluate his/her symptoms to help them better understand the
body s deficits. However, in a different context, perhaps 200 years ago, the individual might not have
had all the resources available to him/her and this might have impacted the individual s health
outcomes. Time is not the only cue to context. When looking at different parts of the world, even
within the same country or state, people s lives differ in many sorts of ways. Perhaps a child of a low
income family needing to work in unstable work environment, while the

Reflection Paper On Golf Carts
As a teenager, hearing our parents tell us no to doing something enjoyable due to it being unsafe is a
huge heartbreaker . We seem to think we are invincible and that our parents know absolutely nothing.
January 1st of 2015, I learned that maybe, just maybe, our parents are actually looking out for us. We
should probably listen to them when they tell us to not ride a golf cart at 1 A.M. on a freezing cold
winter night. My day started off just as it usually does, I wake up and go straight to the kitchen for my
morning cup of hot chocolate. I knew that this day was going to be fun, it was New Year s eve. My
grandparents were having a family party that night. I have a very close relationship with all of my
family so seeing everyone together again was extremely exciting. We got to my grandparents house
around 7 P.M. Most of my family arrived earlier so, I went off to see what my cousins were doing. I
found them in the backyard driving rampant on my grandfather s new golf cart. I probably should
have taken this as a sign to not get on, but everyone else was doing it so I decided I should just do it
too. Our parents eventually told us it was getting too late and to come inside. After watching the ball
drop, My cousins and I decided to take my grandfather s golf cart for one more ride. Our parents told
us that it was too late, too cold, and we shouldn t be going. We had the bright idea to go against what
our parents had just told us and told them we were going outside to play basketball. We got outside to
find that the keys were still in the ignition from the excitement we experienced earlier that day. My
cousins, Blake and Hannah, got in the front seat while I got in the backseat along with my other cousin
Hillary. We started our ride off with a trip down the driveway and quickly picked up speed, way faster
than we expected. As we got towards the end of the driveway, Blake decided it would be a good idea
to make a sharp left turn. This caused the golf cart to flip. As we were flipping, I could see Blake and
Hillary jump off while Hannah and I were somehow thrown under the golf cart. Hannah ended up
getting lucky, only her ankle was caught under a metal bar and she was able to easily get out. On the

Wireless Communication And Control System
WIRELESS COMMUNICATION WITH BCI
Abstract
A Brain Computer Interface is a communication and control system in which human mind can be
translated to the external world without the help of the normal output pathways of muscles and nerves.
Each time we do something or think about doing something, our brain generates distinct signals.
These signals corresponding to an activity, has a pattern. Finding this pattern is a challenging job and
is the main task of any Brain Computer Interface. A BCI acquires these signals from the brain of a
user in the form of Electroencephalography (EEG). Then after pre processing, feature extraction and
classification, it translates these signals into meaningful commands or instructions to drive a device or
application. Electroencephalography is used to record electrical fields that represent the brain signals
and are generated due to the local brain function.
Most of the applications today are only used in computers and just focus on the realization of direction
strategies. To meet the potential increasing user s needs and explore interacting processes with people
s mental states, we design an application that maps signals from the human brain and performs
operations like calling, messaging, gaming and photography. The brain signals are mapped and stored
to create different commands using a series of refined signal processing procedures. These commands
are declared and defined to perform the above mentioned operations like calling, messaging,

Descriptive Essay On Homeless People
All I saw were ambulance lights shining in every direction. It was like the world was dark and the
only thing lighting it up was blue and red. All the events leading up to that one moment were playing
in my head. I tried to process all of it, but it was all too much.
Three Weeks Before
I pulled my beanie down even further down my head, the cold winter breeze hitting me like a ton of
bricks. I was strolling up the hill when I saw an old man sitting against the brick wall of a cafƩ. It s not
unusual to see homeless people on the streets of New York, but this man had caught my eye. It was

William Tecumseh Sherman Biography
William Tecumseh Sherman was born in Lancaster, Ohio, on February 8, 1820. He was one of eleven
children. His father was a successful lawyer and Ohio Supreme Court Justice. Suddenly, at the age of
nine, Sherman s father died, leaving him with Thomas Ewing, a senator from Ohio prominent to the
Whig party. In 1836, Sherman got appointed to West Point. He excelled in academics, but was not fond
of the demerit system. He was never in deep trouble but had a good amount of minor scratches on his
record. He graduated sixth in his class and he first saw action when soldiers were battling against the
Seminole Indians in Florida. After he got many assignments that acquainted him with many well
known southern families. Sherman s military experience was ... Show more content on

month, Sherman was asked to serve with Grant at the Battle of West Tennessee. His first test as a
commander was at Shiloh. Throughout the Battle at Shiloh, SHerman and Grant worked together
creating a lifelong friendship between the two soldiers. Eventually they got separated because
according to the newspaper the leadership was faulty because the soldiers were being commanded by
a drunkard [Grant] and a lunatic [Sherman]. Then, when Vicksburg fell, Sherman was sent to
command three armies in the West. In 1864, Sherman burned atlanta to to ground then set out on his
famous March to the Sea and fought in Georgia. Then when Grant became president, Sherman took

railroad attacks, etc. After he retired in 1884, he soon died on February 14, 1891 in New York City.

Discipleship In The Gospels Of John And Luke-Acts
Each of the four Gospels contains points in ecclesiology. In the Great Commission, Jesus last
instruction to the Apostles is to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing and teaching people
(Matthew 28:19 20). For Jesus mission to continue and for his Church to grow, discipleship is
necessary. Discipleship is a prominent theme in all four Gospels, for purposes of this essay, only the
Gospels of John and Luke Acts will be analyzed. The similarities regarding discipleship in these
Gospels include images of the net and fishing, and the sheep/shepherd/sheepfold. The differences
include the preparing of the Twelve to carry on Jesus ministry in Luke, and service to the community
and passing of authority in John s Gospel. According to Matera, Luke Acts is a well defined set of
time periods. The Gospel is considered the time of Jesus and Acts is the time of the Church. The time
of Jesus in Luke s Gospel foreshadows the Church (Matera, 7). As stated in Stanton, Luke set out the
story of Jesus as a prelude to the story of the origin and growth of the early Church (Stanton, 80).
John, on the other hand, focuses on Christology and the teachings of Jesus to the community (Matera,
9). Both Gospels contain strong references to discipleship, which form the basis for the Church.
In both Luke and John, fishing and the image of the net allude to discipleship. In Luke Chapter 5, the
disciples have fished all night and returned the next morning with nothing. Jesus tells them to put

Introduction
Captain Phillips movie, examines the 2009 hijacking of a U.S container ship, by the name Maerks
Alabama. The movie stars Tom Hanks as Richard Phillip (IMDb). It is a hard pounding thriller that
exhibits the creativity of its director Paul Green Grass. According to Ryan McNeil (2013) the movie
reflects on the primary effects of globalization, by showing the relationship between the ship s
commanding officer and the Somali captain who forcefully held him (McNeil). Richard Phillips meets
with Muse; the Somali captain, when Phillips ship goes on a wrong course (IMDb). Both captains find
themselves at the mercy of forces, which are beyond their control. The movie is ... Show more content

Directing
The director Paul Green grass is commonly known for bringing good movies to the world audience
(IMDb). He directed this movie after having a three year break; his last movie was Green zone in the
year 2008.It is true that the period the director took to make this movie, was not a waste. The movie
lives up to the expectations of the audience (Topmann). The attention that he gives for details, and his
ability to scout talent is present in this exhilarating movie (McNeil).
Analysis of film reviewer
Movie reviewers have had different stands on Captain Phillips movie. Many movie reviewers have
criticized the movie negatively, while others have praised the efforts of the director in creating a
thoughtful account. Movie reviewers have presented mixed reactions that the audience may depict on
regards to this movie.
Ed Whitfield, Lawrence Topman and Tony Brian all agree that the movie does not live to the
expectations. Their common claim is that, Captain Phillips is just an ordinary thriller movie, Ed
Whitfield says that captain Phillips, does not have an absorbing tale to tell (Whitfield). He describes
the movie as being meaty and immensely raw (Whitfield). The critic argues that the movie is just an
ordinary thriller, with components like those in other thriller movies, an armed siege, a game of cat

Mountaintop Mining And Valley Fill
Mountaintop mining and valley fill (MTM/VF) coal extraction, which is heavily practiced in the
Central Appalachian region of the eastern United States, represents a dramatic landscape scale
disturbance. The process includes removing as much as 300m of rock, soil, and vegetation from ridge
tops to access deep coal seams; the overburden material is then placed in adjacent valleys, burying
headwater streams. Post mining topography, vegetation, soils, and runoff pathways can be severely
altered during the mining and reclamation process, greatly altering the landscape s hydrology and the
biochemistry of the watershed. This paper will attempt to synthesize research related to MTM/VF coal
extraction as to convey an understanding of the effects of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
MTM/VF has become an increasingly polarized issue following several devastating floods in southern
West Virginia, which have been linked by environmentalists to the potential for MTM to increase
flooding in communities surrounding mining operations.
While MTM/VF is broadly categorized as surface mining and synonymous with traditional strip and
contour mining, MTM is distinct in terms of its scale and management of overburden material. While
surface mining for coal in Appalachia has been ongoing since the mid 20th century, it was until the
1980s primarily on the scale of areas smaller than 400 hectares. MTM in West Virgina, southwestern
Virgina, eastern Kentucky, and Tennessee, by contrast, disturbs areas on the scale of thousands of
hectares. While techniques for valley fill construction vary across the region and are often site
specific, the general definition involves the placement of overburden which is the displaced minespoil
created in the detonation of as much as 300m of ridge top in adjacent valleys, burying headwaters
streams and springs. In the Appalachian region it is estimated that nearly 4000 km of headwater
streams have been buried under valley fills. The Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act

High Fidelity Analysis
High Fidelity by Nick Hornby Bibliography: Hornby, Nick. High Fidelity. Victor Gollancz, 1995.
Nick Hornby s High Fidelity (1995) details the struggles of Rob Fleming. High Fidelity by Nick
Hornby revolves around the professional and romantic endeavours of the protagonist Rob Fleming.
Rob is struggling to cope with the diminishing returns from his hapless record shop, Championship
Vinyl, which he runs with the help of Barry and Dick, two music lovers. Apart from this, Rob is also
trying to come to terms with heartbreak after he broke up with his girlfriend. Rob s problems seem to
be anchored in his tendency to replace his real feelings and opinions with lists of tribulations. When
Rob and Laura break up, he resorts to making a list of the most memorable relationships and attempts
to discover where exactly he went wrong. He believes that real tension defines his relationship with
women and the eventual breakups. Going by Rob s numerous breakups with women, the novel seems
to be all about dramatizing the romantic struggle of this protagonist, with Burke s Act being the most
dominant element. But elements like Agent, Purpose, and Agency may only help to analyze minor
aspects in the novel such as business failure and infiltration of pop culture. The novel opens with Rob
s top five breakups. The list includes Sarah Kendrew, Penny Hardwick, Charlie Nicholson, Jackie
Allen, and Allison Ashworth. The protagonist is over thirty years old and he decides to create

Sustainable development has become each country s priority and to effectively achieve this growth
many countries use natural resources in production to comply with the consumers needs, at the same
time making sure that the future generations needs are also met (Repetto et al., 1989). Hence the use
of natural resources in production is processed carefully and effectively yet, even with cautious
dealings accidents occur which result in chaos. Similarly the Montara oil spill in 2009 caused chaos in
the Timor Sea and its surrounding population immensely. On 21st August 2009 Australia witnessed
one of its worst oil disasters, an oil and gas leak that occurred in the Montara oil field in the Timor
Sea. The leak occurred due to an explosion and it finally ended on 3rd November 2009. During the
leak and even years after the issue of compensation still hung above the company PTTEP Australasia
(PTTEP AA). In this essay we will explore the incident through the perspectives of PTTEP AA, the
people of West Timor and the marine environment. Henceforth we will come to the conclusion of how
this ongoing issue can be best handled.
The Montara oil spill lasted 74 days and during that time the oil spill effected the an Indonesian island

to seal the oil leak. PTTEP AA had the duty to secure the safety of the workers at the oil rig and

Atheism Research Paper
Atheism is defined as the belief that divine beings do not exist. Atheists often dispute that atheism is
human s natural state of mind (Greywood). The prefix a , meaning without, and the root theism ,
meaning a belief in divine beings, consequently creates the word s definition: without belief in divine
beings (Sexton). Why do some hold this view in a world that is mostly religious? Perhaps to answer
such a question one should explore and venture to know it. Though first introduced in a sophisticated
and educated manner in Ancient Greek schools of thought, to an atheist s point of view, atheistic
thinking has existed since the first intelligent species of humanoids (Greywood). Atheists assert that
humans are naturally unaware of any divine beings unless indoctrinated about subjects that correlate
with tales of divinity. Throughout history, atheists transitioned from being the loathed members of
society to existing peacefully in society. In Middle Aged Europe any openly, expressed disbelief in the
prevalent religion of the day was met with prompt accusations of heresy. The reigning Roman
Catholic Church persecuted accused heretics: a persecution that often ended at the grave ... Show

Methods for Convex and General Quadratic Programmingāˆ— Philip E. Gillā€  Elizabeth Wongā€  UCSD

methods are considered for ļ¬nding a point that satisļ¬es the secondorder necessary conditions for a
general (possibly nonconvex) quadratic program (QP). The ļ¬rst part of the paper deļ¬nes a framework
for the formulation and analysis of feasible point active set methods for QP. This framework deļ¬nes a
class of methods in which a primal dual search pair is the solution of an equality constrained

This reformulation gives the primal dual search pair as the solution of a KKT system formed from the
QP Hessian and the working set constraint gradients. It is shown that, under certain circumstances, the
solution of this KKT system may be updated using a simple recurrence relation, thereby giving a
signiļ¬cant reduction in the number of KKT systems that need to be solved. The linear constraints of a
QP may include an arbitrary mixture of equality and inequality constraints, where the inequality
constraints may be subject to lower and/or upper bounds. Many mathematically equivalent
formulations of the constraints are possible, and the choice of formulation often depends on the
context. We consider the generic quadratic program minimize n xāˆˆR 1 Ļ•(x) = cTx + 2 xTHx subject to
Ax = b, Dx ā‰„ f, (1.1) where A, b, c, D, f and H are constant, H is symmetric, A is m Ɨ n, and D is mD
Ɨ n. (In order to simplify the notation, it is assumed that the inequalities involve only lower bounds.)
However, the methods to be described can be generalized to treat all forms of linear constraints. No
assumptions are made about H (other than symmetry), which implies that the objective Ļ•(x) need not
be convex. In the nonconvex case, however, convergence will be to local minimizers only. In Section
4, the nonbinding direction method is extended to problems

French Baroque Art As An Expression Of Absolutism
French baroque art is sometimes regarded as an expression of absolutism because Louis XIV used his
power and control over art and the artistic freedom of the people to use for his own personal gains.
Louis XIV especially manipulated art to serve as propaganda for his absolutist policies (738). Art was
obviously popular at the time and he knew art would be the best way to convey the majesty and
strength of the monarchy (738). An example of the control he was trying to enforce is shown in Le
Brun s The Expressions (746). The piece was to be used as formulas by the artists to establish
narratives in their paintings that could be easily read by viewers (746). The king wanted so much
control over every detail. I believe this is a preventive to avoid having an artist depict a scene
involving the King or anything related to the King and his power that has an unclear facial expression
that could be viewed as a negative connotation towards the King and his ruling. That situation is not
something Louis XIV would have been okay with, which is why he tried to control it.
Because...vast...projects glorified the French King, we are tempted to think of French art in the age of
Louis XIV as merely an expression of absolute rule (738). If there was any speculation about an artist
s work that didn t obviously glorify the King, he wasn t going to allow it, which is basically
absolutism. Rococo is a combination of baroque and recaille meaning a style of art that represents a

The book details the rise of Blackwater and the growth of security contracting, especially the role it
has played in the Iraq war and the War on Terrorism, which Scahill tries to expose the conduct of
Blackwater. With the introduction of the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the United States government
increased its support on using contractors to assist the military. While other PMCs are used by the
government, Blackwater was the company that benefited the most, which has now secured $1 billion

In the book, Scahill argues that the company s rise is a consequence of the demobilization of the US
military following the Cold War and its overextension in Iraq and Afghanistan. He continues by saying
how Blackwater serves in Iraq and Afghanistan, protecting top authority figures and enjoying
immunity from the constraints and regulations on traditional armies. Scahill argues that Blackwater s
leadership was motivated by a right wing Republican ideology, and that its founder, Erik Prince, has
provided significant assistance in that setting. Scahill makes several key arguments in his book. He
argues that Blackwater s employees should face criminal charges for a variety of incidents

What are the Causes and Effects of poverty in the United States?
Jose Flores

Are all Americans grateful for the things they have? What if Americans do not to have the proper basic
needs? Many Americans do face this situation and it is called poverty. The top three causes of poverty
in United States are lack of education, unemployment and the high cost of health insurance.
Americans can overcome the high rate of poverty and alleviate their struggles by maintaining and
furthering their education which will lead to higher paying jobs and with good medical benefits. In the

2011. P.11). Having the flood at this period of time was a good thing. It put many Rhode Islanders
back to work. However, many small business are closing down in RI, causing many people to lose
their jobs. This is due to the high taxes, fees and regulations that small businesses face if they want to
operate in Rhode Island. All these factors in Rhode Island have impacted the high unemployment rate
thus leading to the high state of poverty. Another factor that will lead one into poverty is the inability
to afford health insurance. A journalist from the Providence Journal, Dujardin, mentioned that Rhode
Island has an average of 18,000 children 17 years of age and younger who were without health
coverage between 2007 and 2009, up from the 16,000 average recorded three years earlier (Richard C.

Not purchasing health insurance can cause a very serious situation. For example, if one were to be in a
car accident or become ill, not having the medical insurance, they will have to pay large amount of
money out of their own pockets. Lastly, one of the biggest causes of poverty is lack of education. In
the United States, everyone is entitled to a free and appropriated public education. However, not many
take advantage of that opportunity. In Rhode Island, 91% of high school students attend school but
only 76% of them graduate out of the whole state. In Central

there has to be a desire in becoming big, goals defined by its nature should scream to others as a way

Mental Crowd Simulators
Phase 5: Time now to practice your speech... You are now heading to the end of your preparation

Three (3) techniques are ideal for practicing your speech and memorizing it very effectively. The first
one is called the mental crowd simulator. To explain what it is in a few lines, we can say that it can be
compared to daydreaming. You know, just like when you daydream while your favorite song is
playing and at the same time, you are imagining yourself singing that song in front of a huge crowd?
Well, this technique works the same way, where you have already memorized your speech, and you
imagine yourself giving that speech to a large audience.
You can daydream anywhere and at any time (with closed or opened eyes), so that s a plus to the
technique. This is how you should basically proceed here; you will have to maintain your eyes, in one

On September 1, 1939, at approximately 4:45 A.M. Germany commenced their invasion of Poland
(Bethell 1). The events that ushered in this invasion are complex, and help explain Hitler s intentions
and goals. The invasion was preceded by Germany s vast re equipment, as well as its numerous
diplomatic efforts. Hitler s September invasion was predicated on his strong belief that the war would
be limited to a single enemy, Poland. Aware of Germany s economic and militaristic limitations, Hitler
did not intend to start World War II when he invaded Poland in 1939. Rather, his plan was to avoid a

minister, beseeched Poland to join the Anti Comintern pact. After the Poles maintained their inflexible
and negative attitude

Being a childhood companion of Shivaji, Tanaji was his most trusted ally and a party to all of Shivaji s
important political movements right from the establishment of Swarajya. Tanaji was also known as
Sinha (which means lion), for his brave fights.
TANAJI S ROLE IN SWARAJYA
The Maratha warrior Shivaji was an able administrator who established a government that included
modern concepts such as cabinet, foreign affairs and internal intelligence. Shivaji was well known for
his benevolent attitude towards his subjects. He believed that there was a close bond between the state
and its citizens. This idea led to the foundation of Swarajya which aimed at establishing a free and
independent homeland, and in this goal he was supported by high level of loyalty, respect and
commitment he received from his companion Tanaji Malusare.
Tanaji was given the responsibility of controlling the delinquent tribes in the Konkan area adjoining
Rajgad fort on the Kingdom. He settled in the Umarthe village in the region for this purpose. He

  • 2. Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy is more commonly known to... Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy is more commonly known to humans as Mad Cow Disease or BSE. BSE originated from scrapie or Endemic Spongiform Encephalopathy, which is a disease that has affected mostly sheep and goats. BSE is an illness that attacks the brain and spinal cord of adult cattle due to an infection by a transmissible agent known as a prion. Once affected by BSE cattle began to develop strange behavior such as aggression, lack of coordination with the inability to stand or walk, and abnormal posture; hence the name Mad Cow Disease (1). Why BSE Should Be Eradicated BSE is a fatal disease BSE has been seen to progress very slowly in relation to other diseases, however is very contagious and fatal for not only cattle, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of what many refer to as the domino effect, 90% of those infected will suffer a death within one year (4). Can BSE be Eradicated A Tough Road Ahead BSE is an extremely rare disease making it a very tough candidate for eradication. This is especially true in humans; while still rare, BSE is much more common in cattle rather than humans. It is also very tough to conduct studies with the rapid progression of the disease and the short lifespan of those infected. Because the cattle commonly infected are vastly spread out between multiple countries, this adds yet another obstacle to overcome when attempting to eradicate BSE in cattle and in return eradicating vCJD in humans. Even with the obvious and difficult complications facing the extermination of this disease the government and scientists have outlined a few ways to slow down the progression and transmittal of BSE (5). What Can Be Done Steps to Eradication Despite the incredibly hard process ahead to eradicate BSE and vCJD here are the steps that have already been put into place to begin the procedure. In July of 1988 a feed ban was introduced as the key animal health control measure. The feed ban is thought to prevent the integration of conceivably infectious material into animal feed for ruminants, and to prevent uninfected cattle from becoming ill. The FDA decided to strengthen the 1988 rule in 1997 and 2008 by barring the use of high risk cattle tissues in all animal feed. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Cyclical Teen Musical Film The Cyclical Teen Musical Film Considered by Jane Feuer to be the only form of musical that retains widespread popularity (123), the teen musical film is a cyclical sub genre of the musical film that keeps coming back again and again since the 1960s, proving that it is a sub genre here to stay. And since this is a cyclical sub genre, its historical development is also cyclical in matter: it develops slightly throughout the cycle, as per many other film genres, but always seems to return back to its original narrative structure and conventions, even through the stylistic and sociocultural changes throughout the decades. Each time the teen musical film has come back into mainstream popularity, the films are always characterized by their dual focus structure primarily a male female main character pairing and the two thematic elements typical of youth films, as described by Timothy Shary: the growing up theme, and a conformity/rebellion binary. The only changes are caused by sociocultural means, including, but not limited to, the Rock n Roll musicals of the 70 s, the Punk musicals beginning in the late 70 s, and the female centered narratives of the 80s. Ever since the introduction of sound in the late 1920s and 1930s, the film musical has been a prominent genre. However, up until the end of the Golden Age of the film musical, the majority of these musical films produced were geared towards an adult audience to help raise morale during the depression, World War I, and ... Muir and Wordsworth Essay Lesson 06.09 Assessment Thesis Statement, Opening Paragraph, evidence conclusion REVISED While both poets Muir and Wordsworth wrote about the happy feelings that they have towards nature the beautiful outdoors or what some people may say Mother Nature, some of which the feelings are the same and some that are different as they speak of the different plants. In every walk with Nature one receives far more than he seeks. John Muir Nature does not only show the beauty of the Earth, but it shows the beauty within us. Muir creatively informs the reader just how much the main character truly loves nature. The same marvel and beauty is shared in the poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud. After a long climb over a high hill he finds his reward a valley shining with a huge field of daffodils. Besides the lakes, beneath the trees, fluttering and dancing in the breeze. As Wordsworth explains the scene. As each scene pops out of the poem, a new addition to the painting in your mind appears each time. The painting may vary from person to person, but I believe the same sense of awe is present with every mind. The portions cited are just the beginning of these two works; enough to splash your mind with colors and emotions, but later parts are what truly makes them worth reading. Calypso Borealis turns from revelation to a desperate situation. Weary and empty, the main character prepares to spend the night in the wet swamp, in a tree nest. Just as the sun was about to set, the future very unpredictable, when Everything seemed most dangerous and discouraging , the story continues, I found beautiful Calypso on the mossy bank of stream. Overwhelmed by the purity and beauty of the Calypso, he collapses by the flower and cries. In this case, I don t feel like Beth used defense mechanisms. In my opinion, when Beth was doing his mischief it was because of the things her birth father was doing to her. In the case of her parents, she would hurt them while they were sleep which gave her the upper hand on them. Passover Tradition Using Christ s last Passover meal, where He introduced the first instance of what is now the Lord s Supper, as an example, we see that since AD 30 it has continued to evolve into a tradition that no longer closely resembles the original one of 1446 B.C. Today, the holiday is becoming even more individualistic, while still holding traditional values. Likewise, the Christian Communion has changed considerably. For years it was observed, like the one in the Upper Room following Jesus resurrection. Then when the Church began to move out of people s homes and into buildings, the meal was discontinued. Quite often the only aspect of the ritual that resembles the first is the quoting of the Scripture. Yet, that is rather remarkable considering the historical timeline of the Christian faith through centuries of changes. The exegesis of this passage brings to light many important principles. First, the tradition of Passover is nearly 3500 years old. Through devout practitioners, certain elements of the tradition have continued against all odds, especially the recounting of historic events and the focus on hope and thanksgiving. Second, the tradition of remembering Jesus sacrifice on the cross through thanksgiving, breaking bread and drinking of the cup has continued for over 2000 years. Readings from Scripture, whether from Matthew, Mark, Luke, John or 1 Corinthians, keeps the tradition alive. It is a reminder of deliverance from sin and death and the promise of eternal salvation. Third, it is suggested that Jesus will at some point again eat of the Passover meal, although it is uncertain if that is literal, figurative or both. This speaks to the Jewish Christian that the Passover observance is not to be discontinued. Fourth, it begs the question: Were the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Countless academic studies say your place in the family is such a strong factor in developing your personality that it can have a major influence on the rest of your life. Some of the solutions that Wallace suggested was to be alert to the child s reaction when a new baby is brought home. Address the feelings that the child has about the birth of the new sibling right then to prevent hostility, anger and resentment later on. Parents should treat the kids equally, neither will feel resentment for the other nor be able to claim that one is getting special treatment (Payton). Middle children are often left feeling like the odd one out, not having the attachment to their parents that their older sibling has but also not being the baby of the family, who gets the attention heaped on them. This often provokes attention seeking behavior and can lead to depression or even paranoia in later life (Udall). Many middle children feel overshadowed by their older and younger siblings. Their efforts to compensate often affect their personality development ( Parenting Children ). With parents less available to them than to first born, middle children seem to be more laid back in achievement and more relaxed. Sometimes they need to be manipulative to satisfy their needs and are good diplomats and quite friendly ( Birth order and your child ). • 13. The Parable Of The Sower In His teachings, Christ used parables to pass earthly stories with a heavenly meaning to the multitude. He used parables in His teachings to not only fulfill prophecy but also to enlighten the true hearted to challenge hardened hearts of the people (Matt. 13:34 35, KJV). Among His parables, the parable of the sower was the parable inclusive of other parables (soil grounds and the sower) making it one of the main parables of Christ. Four different soils were used to represent four different kinds of people and a sower was to represent a teacher of the word of God. The parable of the sower therefore compares various types of human nature, as the soil grounds and the attitude of people towards the teachings of Christ. The seeds that fell on the rocky soil represented the expressive people with a shallow and superficial belief in Christ s teachings (Matt. 13:5 6, KJV). Christ clarified that the people who receive the word with joy but turn away when difficulty or persecution comes are emotional as they try to do what they feel is right in their own way. This explains their lack of commitment towards the teachings of the word and shallow fading interest soon. Jesus meant to teach that the disciples should preserve and never to give up by having a strong faith in Him (Colossians 2:6, KJV). The defiant kind of people with fixed mind and prejudice about the teachings were represented by the seeds that fell on the path (Matt. 13:3 4, KJV). Christ described the people who could hear ... Society In The French Society Of The 14th Century Intro, The French society of the 14th Century was very hierarchal and had a strict structure of people at the top, the Royal House of Capet/ Valois, and the peasants at the bottom, this is called Feudalism. Religion was a big part of society in the 14th Century and really until the French Revolution, France was a very strong Catholic nation. France s like most of Europe at the time had a very agricultural economy. The 14th Century was a time of turmoil, diminished expectations, loss of confidence in institutions, and feelings of helplessness at forces beyond human control This is how the 14th century is described, this is due to the amount of changes the whole of Europe went through, from changing borders, natural disasters, and social unrest. Black Death, The Black death is described by Gottfried as being the Greatest natural disaster in European history. Philip Daileader estimates 45% 50% of the population of Europe dead while Ole Benedictow has 60%, and as the population of all of Europe was 80 million, that is 50 million people, however Philp Ziegler says that figures during the middle ages are hazardous as people did not keep a complete record, but around a third of Europe died. These figures, although they are for all of Europe shows that the Black Death played a dramatic part in French society as many of those would haven been peasants who worked the land. In parts of France they blamed the English for spreading the plague, due to the ongoing war between the two nations, this caused further tension between the two countries. The Plague first struck Europe in 1347 while France and England were at war this allowed the plague to spread more quickly. The famine that had started in 1333 had ended recently which meant crop production and the reverse of grain had not yet recovered causing more deaths. The economy for most countries had started to become crippled as they lost a lot of people who worked the land, however most countries the wages of workers improved as landowners needed people to work the land, labour became more mobile as people moved to where the conditions were more favourable . As a result, one s social, and in this context, medical, situation is highly contingent on the different life experiences a patient has been exposed to. As C. Wright Mills coined the term, Sociological Imagination, MD students today should abide by his sentiment in placing the individual self apart from the typical and habitual patterns in a given society. One must step out of his/her own bubble to see the world for greater than what they are constrained to. The MD students should be able to value the importance placed on the social aspects of health and diseases, for it is true that what is considered an illness in one society, may be seen as a blessing in another. One must value the patient s perspectives according to their life history. It all comes down to context. For example, today s modern world is so technologically advanced that one may be able to go online WebMD to evaluate his/her symptoms to help them better understand the body s deficits. However, in a different context, perhaps 200 years ago, the individual might not have had all the resources available to him/her and this might have impacted the individual s health outcomes. We seem to think we are invincible and that our parents know absolutely nothing. January 1st of 2015, I learned that maybe, just maybe, our parents are actually looking out for us. We should probably listen to them when they tell us to not ride a golf cart at 1 A.M. on a freezing cold winter night. My day started off just as it usually does, I wake up and go straight to the kitchen for my morning cup of hot chocolate. I knew that this day was going to be fun, it was New Year s eve. My grandparents were having a family party that night. I have a very close relationship with all of my family so seeing everyone together again was extremely exciting. We got to my grandparents house around 7 P.M. Most of my family arrived earlier so, I went off to see what my cousins were doing. I found them in the backyard driving rampant on my grandfather s new golf cart. I probably should have taken this as a sign to not get on, but everyone else was doing it so I decided I should just do it too. Our parents eventually told us it was getting too late and to come inside. After watching the ball drop, My cousins and I decided to take my grandfather s golf cart for one more ride. Our parents told us that it was too late, too cold, and we shouldn t be going. We had the bright idea to go against what our parents had just told us and told them we were going outside to play basketball. We got outside to find that the keys were still in the ignition from the excitement we experienced earlier that day. My cousins, Blake and Hannah, got in the front seat while I got in the backseat along with my other cousin Hillary. We started our ride off with a trip down the driveway and quickly picked up speed, way faster than we expected. As we got towards the end of the driveway, Blake decided it would be a good idea to make a sharp left turn. This caused the golf cart to flip. • 20. Wireless Communication And Control System WIRELESS COMMUNICATION WITH BCI Abstract A Brain Computer Interface is a communication and control system in which human mind can be translated to the external world without the help of the normal output pathways of muscles and nerves. Each time we do something or think about doing something, our brain generates distinct signals. These signals corresponding to an activity, has a pattern. Finding this pattern is a challenging job and is the main task of any Brain Computer Interface. A BCI acquires these signals from the brain of a user in the form of Electroencephalography (EEG). Then after pre processing, feature extraction and classification, it translates these signals into meaningful commands or instructions to drive a device or application. Electroencephalography is used to record electrical fields that represent the brain signals and are generated due to the local brain function. Most of the applications today are only used in computers and just focus on the realization of direction strategies. To meet the potential increasing user s needs and explore interacting processes with people s mental states, we design an application that maps signals from the human brain and performs operations like calling, messaging, gaming and photography. The brain signals are mapped and stored to create different commands using a series of refined signal processing procedures. These commands are declared and defined to perform the above mentioned operations like calling, messaging, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Discipleship In The Gospels Of John And Luke-Acts Each of the four Gospels contains points in ecclesiology. In the Great Commission, Jesus last instruction to the Apostles is to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing and teaching people (Matthew 28:19 20). For Jesus mission to continue and for his Church to grow, discipleship is necessary. Discipleship is a prominent theme in all four Gospels, for purposes of this essay, only the Gospels of John and Luke Acts will be analyzed. The similarities regarding discipleship in these Gospels include images of the net and fishing, and the sheep/shepherd/sheepfold. The differences include the preparing of the Twelve to carry on Jesus ministry in Luke, and service to the community and passing of authority in John s Gospel. According to Matera, Luke Acts is a well defined set of time periods. The Gospel is considered the time of Jesus and Acts is the time of the Church. The time of Jesus in Luke s Gospel foreshadows the Church (Matera, 7). As stated in Stanton, Luke set out the story of Jesus as a prelude to the story of the origin and growth of the early Church (Stanton, 80). John, on the other hand, focuses on Christology and the teachings of Jesus to the community (Matera, 9). Both Gospels contain strong references to discipleship, which form the basis for the Church. In both Luke and John, fishing and the image of the net allude to discipleship. In Luke Chapter 5, the disciples have fished all night and returned the next morning with nothing. Mountaintop Mining And Valley Fill Mountaintop mining and valley fill (MTM/VF) coal extraction, which is heavily practiced in the Central Appalachian region of the eastern United States, represents a dramatic landscape scale disturbance. The process includes removing as much as 300m of rock, soil, and vegetation from ridge tops to access deep coal seams; the overburden material is then placed in adjacent valleys, burying headwater streams. MTM/VF has become an increasingly polarized issue following several devastating floods in southern West Virginia, which have been linked by environmentalists to the potential for MTM to increase flooding in communities surrounding mining operations. While MTM/VF is broadly categorized as surface mining and synonymous with traditional strip and contour mining, MTM is distinct in terms of its scale and management of overburden material. While surface mining for coal in Appalachia has been ongoing since the mid 20th century, it was until the 1980s primarily on the scale of areas smaller than 400 hectares. MTM in West Virgina, southwestern Virgina, eastern Kentucky, and Tennessee, by contrast, disturbs areas on the scale of thousands of hectares. While techniques for valley fill construction vary across the region and are often site specific, the general definition involves the placement of overburden which is the displaced minespoil created in the detonation of as much as 300m of ridge top in adjacent valleys, burying headwaters streams and springs. High Fidelity by Nick Hornby revolves around the professional and romantic endeavours of the protagonist Rob Fleming. Rob is struggling to cope with the diminishing returns from his hapless record shop, Championship Vinyl, which he runs with the help of Barry and Dick, two music lovers. Apart from this, Rob is also trying to come to terms with heartbreak after he broke up with his girlfriend. Rob s problems seem to be anchored in his tendency to replace his real feelings and opinions with lists of tribulations. When Rob and Laura break up, he resorts to making a list of the most memorable relationships and attempts to discover where exactly he went wrong. He believes that real tension defines his relationship with women and the eventual breakups. Going by Rob s numerous breakups with women, the novel seems to be all about dramatizing the romantic struggle of this protagonist, with Burke s Act being the most dominant element. But elements like Agent, Purpose, and Agency may only help to analyze minor aspects in the novel such as business failure and infiltration of pop culture. The novel opens with Rob s top five breakups. The list includes Sarah Kendrew, Penny Hardwick, Charlie Nicholson, Jackie Allen, and Allison Ashworth. The prefix a , meaning without, and the root theism , meaning a belief in divine beings, consequently creates the word s definition: without belief in divine beings (Sexton). Why do some hold this view in a world that is mostly religious? Perhaps to answer such a question one should explore and venture to know it. Though first introduced in a sophisticated and educated manner in Ancient Greek schools of thought, to an atheist s point of view, atheistic thinking has existed since the first intelligent species of humanoids (Greywood). Atheists assert that humans are naturally unaware of any divine beings unless indoctrinated about subjects that correlate with tales of divinity. Throughout history, atheists transitioned from being the loathed members of society to existing peacefully in society. The ļ¬rst part of the paper deļ¬nes a framework for the formulation and analysis of feasible point active set methods for QP. This reformulation gives the primal dual search pair as the solution of a KKT system formed from the QP Hessian and the working set constraint gradients. It is shown that, under certain circumstances, the solution of this KKT system may be updated using a simple recurrence relation, thereby giving a signiļ¬cant reduction in the number of KKT systems that need to be solved. The linear constraints of a QP may include an arbitrary mixture of equality and inequality constraints, where the inequality constraints may be subject to lower and/or upper bounds. Many mathematically equivalent formulations of the constraints are possible, and the choice of formulation often depends on the context. We consider the generic quadratic program minimize n xāˆˆR 1 Ļ•(x) = cTx + 2 xTHx subject to Ax = b, Dx ā‰„ f, (1.1) where A, b, c, D, f and H are constant, H is symmetric, A is m Ɨ n, and D is mD Ɨ n. (In order to simplify the notation, it is assumed that the inequalities involve only lower bounds.) However, the methods to be described can be generalized to treat all forms of linear constraints. No assumptions are made about H (other than symmetry), which implies that the objective Ļ•(x) need not be convex. In the nonconvex case, however, convergence will be to local minimizers only. • 31. French Baroque Art As An Expression Of Absolutism French baroque art is sometimes regarded as an expression of absolutism because Louis XIV used his power and control over art and the artistic freedom of the people to use for his own personal gains. Louis XIV especially manipulated art to serve as propaganda for his absolutist policies (738). Art was obviously popular at the time and he knew art would be the best way to convey the majesty and strength of the monarchy (738). An example of the control he was trying to enforce is shown in Le Brun s The Expressions (746). The piece was to be used as formulas by the artists to establish narratives in their paintings that could be easily read by viewers (746). The king wanted so much control over every detail. I believe this is a preventive to avoid having an artist depict a scene involving the King or anything related to the King and his power that has an unclear facial expression that could be viewed as a negative connotation towards the King and his ruling. That situation is not something Louis XIV would have been okay with, which is why he tried to control it. Because...vast...projects glorified the French King, we are tempted to think of French art in the age of Louis XIV as merely an expression of absolute rule (738). The events that ushered in this invasion are complex, and help explain Hitler s intentions and goals. The invasion was preceded by Germany s vast re equipment, as well as its numerous diplomatic efforts. Hitler s September invasion was predicated on his strong belief that the war would be limited to a single enemy, Poland. Aware of Germany s economic and militaristic limitations, Hitler did not intend to start World War II when he invaded Poland in 1939. Rather, his plan was to avoid a world war until the mid to late 1940 s. The invasion of Poland on September 1, 1939 was preceded by a significant effort at negotiation between Germany and Poland. Germany s diplomatic attempts targeted two crucial goals. Their first objective was to persuade Poland to collaborate with them against the USSR. After being adamantly rejected, Germany s ambition turned towards regaining land lost to Poland in the Treaty of Versailles. From 1933 1939, German officials persistently presented proposals to Poland to ally against the common enemy, Russia (Budurowycz 20).
