What Are The Similarities Between Raymond Carver And...
Unit 2 Assignment While reading this week I have found that Raymond Carver and
Bobbie Ann Mason have similar writing techniques. They also set the scenes
similar with a dark past with families or relationships. In Raymond Carvers story he
explained that a character was abused in a relationship and later found that her
husband killed himself. She said it was love but in a different way of showing it.
With Bobbie Ann Mason he set the scene with a familythat lost their son and now it
will never feel the same between them. The husband feels that his wife doesn t love
him anymore due to the fact she lost her son. Both scenes of each story are very dark
and present a tragedy within relationships. Both authors explain things that could go

Global Investments Essay
1. Recently, you sold 1,000 shares of stock for $21,400. The sale was a short sale
with an initial margin requirement of 60 percent. The maintenance margin is 30
percent. The stock is currently trading at $27.50 a share. What is your current margin
position in this stock?
Assets = $21,400
Equity = $21,400 x .60 = $12,840
Short position = 1,000 x $27.50 = $27,500
Account equity = $21,400 + $12,840 $27,500 = $6,740
Margin position = $6,740 / $27,500 = 24.51 %
2. Matt short sold 500 shares of Tall Pines stock at $19 a share at an initial margin
of 65 percent. The maintenance margin is 35 percent. What is the highest the stock

What if the stock price declines by 25%? (note: 3% is annualized effective rate).
900 x $62.20 = $55,980 Assets
$55980 x .70 = $41985 Equity
$55980 $41985 = $13995 Liability
3 % of 13995 = 209.93
$14204.93 + $41985 = $56189.93
Stock price increases by 25% = $77.75 per share
Stock price decreases by 25% = $46.65 per share
$69,975 $56189.93 = $13785.07/$56189.93 = 24.53% when increased by 25%

Assume that 29 of the stocks in the index were unchanged today. One stock
increased in value from $54.80 a share yesterday to $56.90 a share today. What is the
DJIA index value at the close of trading today?
Initial value = 30 x $54.80 = $1644
Final value = (29 x $54.80) + $56.90 = $1646.10 Initial index value = $1644/30 =

How To Switch Roles In Johann Sebastian Bach
The sixteenth notes in the red box acts as a junction into having the two soloists
switch roles and gives the intro to the second theme a lot of suspended and
anticipated notes in the sequence. Moreover, the blue box in figure 7.1 represents
the exact same lyrical line in figure 5.2 except this time the roles are now switched;
the first violinsolo showcase the moving sixteenth notes first, followed by a group of
eighth notes with the second violin solo, then the second violin solo repeats the
sixteenth notes ascending and ends the bar with the two soloists together with eighth
notes just like the previous figure. As a continuation of using repetition, Bach goes
as far as to have the soloists in the second theme the measures after the group of
simultaneous eighth notes switch roles again and have the second violin solo start
the theme and have the first violin solo follow as a sort of echo effect.
Repeated Polyphonic Lines of Music In this next section, C, the figure 8.1 shows first
violin solo has these moving sixteenth notes line, in the blue box, very much like

stirring cantilenas Bach ever wrote emphasizing the different points of the listener

this piece is extremely repetitive, as seen in the analysis segment, but Bach clearly

it could be sensed within the piece; just by simply analyzing the work, we captured a

The Protestant Reformation s Influence On The Religious
World
It was a chilly morning on the 31st of October, 1517 in the German town of
Wittenberg. A priest walks with papers in hand to the church and, stepping up to the
wooden door, nails the papers to the front of the church, posted for the town to see.
Martin Luther, not knowing what he had just started, walked away from the church
beginning what has come to be known as the Protestant Reformation. This
Reformation is often viewed as a religious movement that eventually came to affect
the political and social spheres as well; Martin Lutheralong with other Protestants had
started a revolution. It is clear to see that the Reformation affected the religious
world, is very much a critique and ultimately a formal break with the Roman Catholic
Church. Distrust and disgust with the Church had been... Show more content on

The Protestant Reformation had a profound impact on the history of Europe and
eventually the world. The influence of Wycliffe, Luther and Calvin truly led to and
care on the Reformation and shaped the beliefs of the next few generations of
Christians. The same writings and ideas about religious faith did not just stay there, it
eventually cause political upheaval and started a chain reaction of the questioning of
authority. While the beliefs of the Reformers obviously influenced the religious and
political world society was not left alone. Particularly marriage, being tied with
religious faith, was viewed differently among Protestants, Luther advocated the
equality of worth and status within the marriage relationship between and a man and
his wife. Overall, the Reformation truly changed the world at the time and the ripple
effect is still seen today. The modern world has been influenced so heavily whether
religiously, politically or social by the
absolutism in europe Essay
Absolutism affected the power + status of the European nobility depending on the
country in which they lived. In England the power of the nobility increases due to a
victory in the English Civil War and the Glorious Revolution of 1658. However, in
France, Louis XIVВЎВЇs absolutist regime decreased the powers of the noble but
heightened their material status. In Russia and in Prussia, the absolutist leaders of
those countries modernized their nations + the nobilityunderwent a change, but it
retained prestige + power.
Charles I considered himself to be an absolute monarch in England in the 1630ВЎВЇs.

He built Versailles, a beautiful palace outside of Paris for his nobles. Lined with
gardens and filled with fountains + opulent architecture + decorations Versailles was
a veritable playground for the nobles. There were balls, fancy clothes + huge
numbers of servants, and most of the noblesВЎВЇ incomes were spent on these
luxuries. Thus, the status of the nobles was high and they were wealthy + lived an
indulgent lifestyle, but they had no political power in the French government.
During this same time Peter the Great sought to ВЎВ°westernizeВЎВ± Russia. An
autocratic tsar who had absoluter power, he did not wish to share it with his royal
court. He moved the capital to St. Petersburg, and absorbed western intellectual and
cultural trends. He forced all his nobles to cut of their beards, and instructed them to
learn modern Western dances. Russia historically had an autocratic tsar like Peter, +
the nobles have no political clout in the government. However, the nobles in Russia
are huge landowners and had enormous powers over the serfs on their estates. This
economic power, b/c serfs were almost like slaves, made them wealthy + prosperous.
Thus, although Peter the Great rules without the input of anyone else, the nobles
were westernized under his rule + enjoyed power over their serfs and economic gains.
In Prussia, a similar situation emerges. Frederick William, ВЎВ°the Great Elector

Florida Hospital And The United States
Florida Hospital has grown to be one of the largest healthcare providers in the
United States. Impressively, Florida Hospital had a very humble beginning and a
modest growth. In 1908, a small group of Seventh Day Adventists in Orlando
developed their vision of bringing health care to the area. As part of their
philanthropy, they were able to raise the funds necessary to purchase Florida Hospital
s first facility near Lake Estelle. It was a two story farmhouse that had a wraparound
porch and had once served those needing treatment for tuberculosis. The facility had
the capacity to care for 20 patients at any given time.
During the 1950s, Florida Hospital transformed its two story farm house to a
structure that was able to care for 160 patients. They were able to make
improvements to the facility, such as air conditioning, that allowed for year round
care to patients. With each purchase of new facilities in the decades to follow,
Florida Hospital has grown to over 20 hospitals large, providing services to many
people who live in Central Florida and the surrounding areas. This has allowed the
network to include many leaders in their respective fields to offer care to patients in
many different specialized areas.
The mission of Florida Hospital was developed with inspiration from the study of
scripture. Since the founders of Florida Hospital, the Seventh day Adventist Church,
were faith based, the mission became to extend the healing ministry of Christ. This

Comparing Opera Seria to Orfeo Ed Euridice by Gluck
and...
Orfeo ed Euridice by Gluck, was written in 1762 and The Marriage of Figaro by
Mozart was written in 1786. It is interesting to analyse the changes and developments
from opera seria to these two examples.
During the eighteenth century, composers wrote in a style of opera called opera
seria. Opera seria had the following characteristics:
They used similar plots involving a hero and usually some sort of conflict of human
passions, and these operas were often based on a story from an ancient Greek or
Latin Author. The opera always consisted of three acts with alternating recitatives and
arias. To show the virtuosic skill of the singer, cadenzas were used within arias. The
action was created from the dialogue within the recitatives, ... Show more content on

There were also stricter demands of the solo singers. The two mid eighteenth century
composers, Jomelli and Traetta played a big part in the reform of Italian opera in the
late 18th century by influencing the French towards opera of a more international
flavour.
Born in Bohemia, Gluck built a more international style of opera. He was strongly
affected by the movement of the reform in the 1750s. He became court composer
to the Emperor at Vienna after visits to London and studying under Samartini in
Italy. After a collaboration with a poet named Raniero Calzabigi, Gluck composed
two of his famous operas, `Orfeo ed Euridice in 1762 and `Alceste in 1767. Gluck s
aims were to remove the unpopular characteristics of opera seria, as shown by his
famous quote:
To confine music to its proper function of serving the poetry for the expression and
the situations of the plot
He removed the overuse of da capo aria or the showing off desire of the singer; he
also broke down the contrast of the recitative and aria and gave his opera more
dramatic relevance than had been the case in opera seria:
I believed that my greatest effort should be directed to seek in a beautiful simplicity
...and there is no accepted rule that I have not thought should be gladly sacrificed in
favour of effectiveness.
One important way, in which Gluck reformed opera, was the use of his choruses as
we can see in the beginning of Orfeo ed Euridice. Example below.
Anaerobics-Personal Narrative
During my junior year of college I had this girlfriend, Julie. Julie was an aerobics
enthusiast and had this hot little body. Her tits weren t huge, but provided a nice
handful. Her tight ass and toned legs got attention everywhere she went. However
it was her hair and face that really completed the package. She had straight brunette
hair that went down to the middle of her back. Her face was a bit small, which
made her medium sized lips look big and luscious and her eyes real expressive. I
swear that a single glance from those eyes would render most men speechless. The
funny thing is that I don t think that Julie realized how hot she looked. Socially, she
palled around with everyone. She didn t seem to realize that being friendly with guys

Engaging The Millennials
American politics and the government surrounding it are often marred in cynicism
and negativity. Such skepticism is, obviously, unhealthy and is not very conducive
when it comes to encouraging the younger generation to get involved in political
affairs. David Rankin attempts to tackle this dilemma in his 2013 book US Politics
and Generation Y: Engaging the Millennials. In this paper, Rankin s work will be
summarized, followed by an evaluation of myself using Rankin s criteria, and then
discussing a recent political event that arrested my attention during my tenure as a

According to the textbook American Government: Power Purpose, Congress has the
power to deny public benefits to [illegal immigrants], but doing so would go against
long standing traditions in American political culture (Lowi et al. 165). We are a
nation founded and built by immigrants and it is highly unlikely that all of those
immigrants were here legally. If we were to attempt to deport the millions of illegals
in this country, we would be committing an injustice to basic human dignity and the
principles that the Founders envisioned this country could uphold. As a final point,
once again taken from Power Purpose, the authors of the book cite Alexander Bickel,
a constitutional scholar from Yale Law School, as saying that the Constitution begins
with We the People of the United States ; likewise the Bill of Rights refers to the
rights of people, not the rights of citizens (Lowi et al. 165). This only further proves
the point that, at least in part, America was established on a compassionate and
humanistic foundation. Despite whatever hypocrisies and personal failings that the
Founding Fathers may have possessed they were, at their core, essentially good men
who wanted nothing but the best for the nation that they so dearly loved. Regardless
of the eventual outcome on this issue one thing remains certain that poor and
disenfranchised people will continue to seek a better life for themselves and, if we
continue to reject those downtrodden by society, then can we really continue to
proclaim to be one of the greatest nations in the

could never have happened without the fortunate talents of John Densmore, Robby

and music that sounded a lot like Morrison s work, such songs as quot;Light My

The Doors and Elektra had grown into world famed institutions.
The band s un stated goal was to accomplish musical alchemy, to fuse rock music with
both existent poetry and improvisational theater. Jim was influenced by the

Morrison was a man who would not, could not, and did not know how to

Leadership, Entrepreneurship And Strategy For Sure
Makes A...
Synchronizing leadership, entrepreneurship and strategy for sure makes a great
management. By the way even if these skills might seem pretty achievable by
academic and professional education, things become more complicated when we talk
about international business. In fact global management involve many aspect that do
not require a simple preparation in a specific business field, but it rather requires a
broad preparation on different fields, such as international laws, commerce policies
and people customs just to mention a few.
Just less than a century ago, management rules were very different from now, work
was mainly composed of manual labor task, this means that a traditional pyramid
hierarchy with employees and managers loyally obedient to their top managers, was
a solid structure to build a good and healthy business. But starting a few decades
ago, as work begun to require less manual labor and more knowledge work, things
have changed dramatically bringing modern management to new standards as
depicted by Peter Drucker who pointed out the importance of entrepreneurship and
innovation into the management world. A further evolution occurred in the 1970s
with Warren Bennis who stated that more than just a manager, an effective leader
was defined as someone with the ability to influence and motivate others not only to
perform work tasks but also to support the organization s values and meet the
organization s goals. This is to me the cornerstone of new management, the

Marines must wear their rank on the collar of the mccuu uniform at all times, on
the collar vertical, with the pointed tip up. Center them horizontally (as if a
vertical line bisected the collar). The bottom edge of the insignia (no matter what
rank) will be 1/2 inch from the side of the collar on both sides. Rank insignia
should always have a good appearance free of rust, chips, scratches, or tarnishing. A
Marine qualified or designated as a naval aviator, naval flight officer, Marine aerial

Breaking In A Glove Essay
I was five years old when I first put on a baseball glove. No, scratch that, I was five
when I first played baseball. From the time I could open my eyes and look at my dad,
I was wearing orange and black SF Giants gear. Once I had a handle on walking, I
was learning to throw and catch. As soon I was of age, my dad signed me up for T
Ball and he gave me my first real glove. Not a cheap faux leather/polyester mix glove,
a genuine, leather glove. I loved that glove, and I held onto it for years. During those
years, I grew quite a bit and it was obvious my glove needed to grow too. My dad
took me to the local Sport Chalet and we started to look at the different gloves. My
dad is a veteran of the sport and we thought we would know which glove would...

But any I tried on felt foreign, especially if they were already broken in. My dad
and uncle both agree, concluding that the gloves that were broken in had trust from
other people already. Breaking in a glove is a recurring rite of passage in a player s
career. It s during this time where he becomes acquainted with the glove, which
becomes customized to the player. It is impossible to break in a glove the same way
as someone else. The shape of and way we move our catching hand, how we sleep
on it, what kind of practice balls we take, everything breaks down the leather and
molds it to fit its player. It becomes less of an extraneous object and more of a part of
him.
In this sense, a player s glove can easily be seen as an extension of himself. When
my glove tore, my confidence in myself started to tear. When I can t trust part of
me, I can t trust the rest of me. Players don t like borrowing gloves because they
aren t a part of them. It belongs to someone else and will for years, both in the past
and future. Gloves are not simply leather stitched together to protect a hand. They are
there to enhance the hand on which they are placed. But they can augment a player s
skill, if we put our trust in
Summary Of The Fire Next Time By James Baldwin
In James Baldwin s collection of essays in The Fire Next Time he expresses a call to
action for Americans to abandon the belief that skin color separates people from one
another and to unite together as a whole country. In the essays, he identifies religion
as the source for this disillusioned belief that the whites skin makes them inherently
better than African Americans merely because of their skin color. In participating in
the Christian religion, he learns that the teachings to love one another go unpracticed
towards those with a different skin color or of another religion. While religion
benefits its members by preventing people from falling into the life of crime that
prevails in the ghetto, its influence causes the members to develop... Show more

Rather than pushing both races to blur the line between whites and blacks, the
religion seems to further distinguish this line. Baldwin gives a compelling reason for
stating that Americans must separate themselves from Christianity in order to
progress into a world where everyone can live free. The Christian religion keeps its
members in a prison of blind faith. While the blacks lack freedom because of
society s treatment of them, whites lack freedom in their blind following of the
belief that they possess superiority over blacks because of skin color. Despite the
initial comfort that religion wrapped around Baldwin, he saw its hypocrisy that
ensnared the other members and continued the long chain of hate among
Americans of every color. Americans interpretation of the message of Christianity
may lead them to judge others, but Baldwin takes the true message of love and
applies it to his plea to have hope. Baldwin states that he and believers like him will
force [their] brothers to see themselves as they are, to cease fleeing from reality and
being to change it (8). In opening their hearts to the Christian commandment to love
one another and applying it to their actions, Americans will be able to save
themselves from drowning in a flood of their judgments and bring peace to the
My Grandparents In Puerto Ricans
My grandparents were both born and raised in Cidra, Puerto Rico and so were their
three children. They wanted to start a new beginning. Though the exact date is
forgotten my grandparents moved to Cleveland, Ohio sometime in 1989. My
grandparents were very poor when they lived in Puerto Rico since there were not
many job opportunities and barely any resources, my grandparents could barely
make ends meet. They wanted to give their children to have more opportunities and
resources that they didn t have when they were younger, so they decided to leave
their home in Cidra. They choose to move to Cleveland because they already had
some familydown here such as brothers, sisters, and even cousins. When my
grandparents got to Cleveland they already knew they made the right decision for
their family, Cleveland gave them a more stable life then what they had in Puerto
Rico. There were better educated schools in Cleveland for their children unlike in
Puerto Rico, the food in Cleveland was way more affordable, medicine as well, and it
was easier to find jobs that paid well.
The first migration wave for Puerto Ricans came in 1917 when almost 2,000
people went to New York. Another wave of Puerto Ricans traveled to New York in
the 1940s. Similar to my family, the Puerto Ricans went to New York to have fresh
starts and to find new opportunities to better themselves. They were also looking for
jobs since there was a very high unemployment rate in Puerto Rico that still somewhat
exists today.
Physical Activity Tracking
Given my experience, trackers are unreliable in guiding proper fitness since they
fail to provide individuals with a complete, accurate picture of their daily activity
habits. The data shown in my step count table does not necessarily provide a useful
measurement of daily activity; it merely scratches the surface and fails to take into
account the other important aspects of fitness and well being. However, when
relating this method of physical activity tracking to others, I believe that the elderly
population could benefit from using fitness trackers due to their naturally limited
physical activity routines. From what I ve experienced, there are a number of
benefits available to seniors through the use of wearable devices. For example, the...

With fitness monitors, people have the ability to view their activity levels from a
different, more measureable perspective. As a result, this gives them more
knowledge and influence over their daily routines by presenting a means of
motivation. For people who already maintain a watchful eye over their lifestyle and
are competitive with themselves, wearable technologies are a fun way of knowing
one day s threshold so that they can improve on it the next. While an activity
monitor s step, distance, and calorie count have a plausible chance of being
inaccurate, they are still an accountability tool that provides motivation, both
intrinsically and extrinsically. However, wearable technologies also have the ability
to misdirect people away from a comprehensive understanding by only focusing one

Effects of Illegal Whaling in The Southern Ocean Whale...
Whaling in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary (SOWS) is an ongoing issue
despite laws and regulations prohibiting commercial hunting in these waters. Whaling
fleets from Japan use scientific research to justify continued whaling in the Southern
Ocean. Weak enforcement of the regulations set up in the SOWS has allowed
countries, most notably Japan, to continue their hunts with little interference. If
whalingcontinues in the SOWS, it may lead to irreversible effects to the ecosystem of

A steady decrease in whale populations can have a top down effect on many other

To look at the ecosystem of the Southern Ocean, we will be referencing the food web

The whales that are going to be focused are species of baleen whales found in the

The issue behind whaling in the Southern Ocean is mainly attributed to the permit of
scientific whaling in the southern ocean. Allowing scientific whaling in the

considered whaling, and many are coming to realize there is a fine line between the
two. Currently, the only country performing scientific whaling in the Southern

is that many believe it is being used as a cover for commercial whaling. According to

An Overview Of Business Intelligence
An Overview of Business Intelligence All great organizations share one thing in
common, the use of business intelligence. Business intelligence (BI) provides tools
that revolutionize the way organizations manage business and decision making. It
allows them to transform mass amounts of raw data into reliable information
necessary to make important business decisions. BI delivers relevant and reliable
information to those who seek it with the goal of achieving better decisions faster. An
employee is independently able to navigate through a company s data and find what
he or she needs without relying on others. This means an organization no longer
needs to dig through compiled webs of linked spreadsheets, analyze the data manually
and mash together reports. Instead, employees can use BI systems to request the
specific information that is useful for them (Hitachi Solutions Canada, 2014). BI
allows managers to reach the most accurate and contemporaneous information an
organization s database cannot retrieve. The software offers applications for both data
analysis and presentation of results. Applications such as data mining and decision
support systems allow one to contemplate how he or she wants to analyze the data.
Data mining refers to the process of searching for valuable business information in a
large database, data warehouse, or data mart. Decision support systems combine
models and data in an attempt to analyze semi structured and some unstructured

Neil Shubin s Your Inner Fish
The concept of evolution has always fascinated me; I was amazed that single celled
organisms from many years ago are the reason I m here today. While I recognized
that our ancestors went from a simplistic organism to fish, to mammals, and so on,
the details of how each step occurred in our history never really gets mentioned in the
evolutionsection of our general biologycourses. I chose to read Neil Shubin s Your
Inner Fish because I wanted to know the transition of our ancestors in greater detail.
I also thought that the book would elaborate on some of the topics discussed in our
evolutionary anatomy class and help put them in perspective. Prior to reading the
book, I expected it to be very dry simply explaining evolutionary concepts in... Show

After establishing his credibility and methods, the book continued thereon by
describing our evolution in various segments. For instance, some chapters were
devoted to different senses while others were meant to describe topics such as the
development of our unique hands. Shubin would first describe a particular
development from simple to complex, as in up through mammals; then he would
bring it full circle by finishing up with modifications in evolutionary history that
make us distinctly human. Based on the terminology used in describing these
evolutionary steps and the conversational tone that Shubin chose to write in, I think
that the book was directed more toward students than a professional audience.
While I think that professionals can still benefit from reading Shubin s book, it
seems to be geared toward higher level students probably high school and college
such as those with a general background of evolutionary biology. But I think that the
book has two layers; there s one that anyone could understand since the concepts are
explained very basically at some points in the book, but then another level where
people with base knowledge will have a greater understanding of what Shubin is
presenting and they could use the book to get further knowledge on the subject of

The Current Social And Political Climate On Australia Is...
The current social and political climate in Australia is the corollary of the postmodern
age and globalisation. Postmodernity ushered in the notion of multiplicity, the
destruction of universal truths and hybridity of identity and, a more chaotic social
landscape full of fluid identities and diverse social groups, (Ward, 2003, p. 174). This
was in stark contrast to the homogeneity of modernity. Modernity was built upon the
concepts of universal truths, utopian visions and rationalism. This destruction of
universal truths and the concept of multiple truths as its replacement is deeply
threatening to those communities who perceive postmodernity as an attempt to
destroy their mode of being, and indeed their identity. The validity of multiple truths
requires acceptance and tolerance by society, and a willingness to accede your truth
may not be the only truth. This is none more apparent than in the re emergence of
religious identity in the public sphere, increases in religious diversity have brought
religionback into public discourse in a totally unanticipated way, (Bouma G. , 2011,
p. 27). The notion of multiple religious truths can be threatening to societies which
have previously only validated one or a few.
In Australia and globally, secularism and its associated utopian values devoid of
religious connotations failed to achieve its goals. Secularists espoused the death of
religion or at the very least the disappearance of religion from the public sphere into

Elie Wiesel Writing Style
Writings in formal literature follow specific rules to convey factual messages or
arguments. In novels and memoirs however, these rules may be overlooked in order
to effectively communicate a certain tone. A fantastic example of this is in Elie
Wiesel s memoir, Night, where he recalls the story of his time surviving the Holocaust
. In this memoir, Wiesel uses characteristics such as repetition, contrasting words, and
short statements to make the reader feel as if he is recalling the story right beside
him. These different attributes to the writinghelp the reader fully understand how the
Holocaust emotionally affected its victims. An interesting aspect of Wiesel s writing
style is his tendency to use floral descriptions directly over the somber feel of the
Holocaust. By doing this, he creates a brief moment of peace amidst the chaos
without straying far from the grave tone he has established. An example of this is
when Wiesel sees his father smile for the first time since they were sent to the labor
camps. Then he smiled ... The snow continued to fall in thick flakes over the corpses
(86). Immediately after his father smiles, Wiesel extinguishes any hope that may have
come from that moment when he reminds the reader that there are still cadavers
surrounding them. Effective communication of hopelessness arises from this style,
for whenever there is an optimistic event, the hope that came with it is abruptly taken
away. Repetition in writing emphasises certain points or
Grant Proposal Requirements

Furthermore, I will proceed by reviewing the specific needs for each proposal

no significant changes I found to be necessary when applying for a proposal

they are a good fit for the grant. Secondly, I suggested the proposal be planned out
by a team to make sure no topics are missed as well as for editing purposes. I liked
that the foundations required an application before the proposal, as it helps the grant

Essay on A Passage to India
There are people bustling, merchants selling, Anglo Indians watching, and birds
flying overhead. How many perspectives are there in this one snippet of life? They
are uncountable, and that is the reality. Modernist writers strive to emulate this type
of reality into their own work as well. In such novels, there is a tendency to lack a
chronological or even logical narrativeand there are also frequent breaks in narratives
where the perspectives jump from one to another without warning. Because there are
many points of view and not all of them are explained, therefore, modernist novels
often tend to have narrative perspectives that suddenly shift or cause confusion. This
is because modernismhas always been an experimental form of... Show more content

the truth. Thus, the views are directly compared to one another and suggest that there
can be truth in multiple ways and perspectives.

Where Children Live By Naomi Shihab Nye Summary
Naomi Shihab Nye s poem Where Children Live provides a nostalgic sentiment
about childhood innocence and the carefree attitude that gets abandoned as children
grow into adults. Using the New Criticism critical approach, I will discuss how Nye
uses various literary techniques to tell the story of the childhood innocence that gets
lost as people grow older. To begin, Nye organizes the poem into three separate
stanzas. The first stanza describes the tone of the homes where children live. The
second stanza describes what is missing from the homes where children no longer
live. The final stanza discusses the nature and environment surrounding the homes
where children live.
The first stanza and the last stanza provide an optimistic and happy ... Show more

Nye uses words including corpses and short lived to emphasize how childhood
innocence is only temporary and dies quickly.
Also, when comparing the word choice in this stanza with the other stanzas, it
becomes obvious that Nye fully believes a house is not a home without children. In
the first stanza of the poem, Nye states, Homes where children live exude a pleasant
rumpledness (475); however, in the second stanza of the poem, Nye says, And the
house takes on a new face, dignified (475). In the first stanza when the poet
references children she uses the word homes, which implies warmth and family. In
the second stanza, which focuses on adulthood, the poet uses the word house, which
sounds less welcoming and inviting.
The second stanza also describes what happens as children grow up and become
adults. Nye explains, To be a child again one would need to shed details (475),
which explains how people accumulate emotional baggage and put up walls as they
get older. The poet also addresses the often mundane lives of adults in her second
stanza when she compares adulthood to childhood by stating, Grown ups like
swings, leafy plants, slow motion back and forth. / While the yard of a child is
strewn with the corpses/ of bottle rockets and whistles, (475). Nye implies that adults
live dull and simple lives while children live lives full of excitement and adventure.

Ballad Of Birmingham By Dudley Randall
Ballad of Birmingham by Dudley Randall is a poem published in 1968 revealing a
conversation between an African American mother and her daughter. The poem
starts off with the young girl asking her mother for permission to participate in the
Freedom March in downtown Birmingham; however, her mother refuses because
reasonably so, parents do not want their child caught up in the middle of chaos,
especially a dangerous one. During the 1960s, riots, influenced by violence such
as bomb, hose, and dog attacks, were common. It is understandable that the mother
did not want her daughter exposed to this violence. In fact, she wanted her
daughter as far away from the terror as possible. The one place that many would
resort to would be a sacred place, the church. Throughout history, the church have
always been looked at as a place of holiness and can be referred to as a place of
safety. Realistically enough, just because the church is deemed a holy and sacred
place does not mean that it is exempt from evil terrors.
Tuning into the poet s biography, Dudley Randall, an African Americanpoet from
Detroit, Michigan, was the leading exponent of the new black poetry movement of
the 1960s (Dudley). His mother and father were both educated people, his mother
being a teacher and father being a minister. Because his father knew about politics,
Randall and his father attended many events featuring black leaders. Through this, he
was able to witness the tension behind the racial conflict. His
Plea Bargaining Process
Plea bargaining is a series of actions that result to an understanding between the
prosecutor and the defendant in connection to a particular case. It will require
approval by the court. The process typically results to a change in the plea of the
defendant or the accused to a crime that has a lighter consequence. The defendant or
accused may also plead guilty to the original crimein exchange for lesser charges of
the original crime. Plea bargaining basically aims to lessen the sentence that the
accused will face for the crime in the event that the charges are proven in court.
The plea bargain process is normally done prior to the start of the trial itself.
However, there are some instances when plea bargaining can be carried out any ...

The process minimizes potential problems from emerging. For instance, a
prolonged trial process may increase the possibility of crucial testimony not to be
entered as evidence if the witnesses are old people since there is a possibility that
the witnesses will die before they testify. This will have a serious effect on the
verdict given by the judge.
6. Both the defendant and the prosecutor will benefit from a plea bargain since it
helps avoid severe sentencing or acquittal respectively.
7. It will not be necessary for the victim to wait for a long time before the defendant
is sentenced by the judge.
In addition to the advantages listed above, there are other considerations that can
confirm the suitability of using plea bargaining in the trial process.
The first consideration is to provide an incentive to defendants who acknowledge
their wrongdoing. The jurist plea bargaining process will encourage defendants to be
responsible for their actions and send them to a rehabilitation center that expedites
their rehabilitation at a shorter period of time.

Wireless Based Third Generation ( 3g ) Wireless Network
UMTS BASED third generation (3G) cellular network can be seen operating
working in many of the countries across the globe. The 3G networks offer a
substantial increase in the capacity for data and voice communications compared
to the 2G or 2.5G networks. The 3G networks are built on WCDMA. HSDPA [2] is
an updated version of Release 99 versions of the 3G networks, providing as high as
possible downlink speed of 10 Mbps. We will be going to examine 3G network
capacity and delay performances of IP based applications on 3G and HSDPA
networks. Extensive efforts are being taken to find the high no. of users that CDMA
based systems can support while maintaining the desired quality of service for
everyone [3], [4]. But these are more useful for preliminary capacity approximation
and network planning purposes. There have been a measurement studies on 3G
networks but are mainly focused on the performance of pure data traffic under lightly
loaded or controlled environments [9]. Another study [14] was done which separately
measured the voice and data call capacities of an experimental 3G network. However,
the measurements were conducted in a fully controlled environment, where the
network configuration consisted of only one cell, with the admission control
disabled. The study describes the performance of live 3G networks under saturated
conditions by usage of data, video, and voice traffic. Field measurements were
conducted on three commercial 3G networks in Hong Kong with the
What Are Harriet Tubman s Greatest Achievements
Let s talk about the one and only Harriet Tubman. Harriet was a slave, luckily she
was smart enough to escape, she was 14 when she escaped. Harriet was a brave
woman, she was born in Maryland and people called her Moses because she was a
hero to everyone. She also conducted The Underground Railroad and that is one of
her greatest achievements. Harriet Tubman s greatest achievements, did it involve
time, risk and how many people she saved? Her greatest achievements were being an
Underground Railroad Conductor, Caregiver, Civil War Nurse and a Civil War Spy.
I truly believe that her number one greatest was being a Underground railroad
conductor. Let s start off with talking about her first and her best achievement, which
was the Underground... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only was she an Underground railroad conductor, but also she was a caregiver.
Harriet loved helping people, she was taking care of poor people of the Civil War that
was her main focus of her life. She also only cared for 6 8 people at a time and she
did that for 48+ years. I feel like this was her second greatest achievement because
she was focusing on helping poor people and she did it for 48+ years! She didn t
worry about herself after all the hard work she still helped everyone. Furthermore,
her third achievement is Harriet being a Civil War nurse. I think this isn t her best
achievement because she has only helped 150 black soldiers on a gunboat raid in
South Carolina, not going to lie it is a lot of people, but in the Underground
Railroad she helped at least 300 people. When people were sick and some died from
dysentery, Tubman really believed she could find a cure. How you may ask? Late
at night she searched the woods for lilies and cranesbill (geranium) and she boiled
the lily roots and the herbs and she gave it to a man and guess what? He
Analysis Of The Lilac Turtle
The Lilac Turtle
Table C1. Mr. Cantrell searches the tables and lands on the girl with fading lilac
hair. She looks at him briefly and returns her eyes to her notecard of ten facts about
her. Her head slightly tilts back into her neck, like a turtle that seems wary of its
situation. She then turns in her chair to face him completely, flipping her hair
behind her shoulder. I m Julia Vap. I m a junior and I ve been dancing since I was
two. Her whole body is facing her subject and she tries to tuck her hair behind her
ear, but she s already accomplished that task before she was called on. She seems
slightly nervous, but not anything she can t handle. I mean, she has been on stage
for all her life. Plus, from further investigation, it seems she isn t as shy outside as
she is inside the class. Ms. Julia Vap sits at the closest desk to the teacher, in
perfect view for me to watch her without raising suspicion. Some days, she comes
in halfway through passing period and sits down at her desk, scrolling through her
phone under the table. Other days, she stops by the tables of some other girls in
our class, conversing about things that I m not in range to hear. During class time,
she pays attention to what the teacher says, but she doesn t speak up. The only
time I ve heard her voice is the first day during a required get to know you
assignment. She doesn t raise her hand at all and her conversations aren t loud
enough to hear. I ve seen her smile at a few things her friends mouth to her from
across the room, but she only smirks (and does the turtle head shrink motion) at the
teacher s jokes. Julia is a tough subject to observe thank god for social media. At a
whopping 1,512 Instagram followers, Julia seems quite popular. Scrolling through
her tagged photos, she s standing next to her dancemates or her close besties and
smiling or making a duck face at the camera. Her recent photos seem to be pristine
selfies and artsy shots of a city landscape or aesthetic climate. Most of her photos
have a polaroid, distant space/nature vibe, and she s always wearing impeccable
makeup. Her clothes all seem to be a kind of low key edgy chic, which ties perfectly
into her instagram theme. Now, after careful observation, I
Summary Of The Mcdonaldization Of Society
As to perfectly punctuate the paper The McDonaldization of Society by George
Ritzer, I got tired of reading it and made my computer read it to me while I listened,
which although efficient added an emphasis on all the topics Ritzer discussed in his
writing. McDonaldization is the sociological term used to describe the wide spread
affects of fast foodrestaurants on society, whose affects can be seen in almost all
aspects of todays society. The first aspect of McDonaldizationas highlighted in the
article is the assembly line structure, as used by fast food restaurants; it provides an
efficient way for food to be prepared, served, eaten and disposed of as fast as
possible. It utilizes multiple employs at different stations to make food
Erectile Dysfunction Research Paper
Many men occasionally have erectile dysfunction. However, impotence becomes an
issue when erectile dysfunction is an ongoing issue. Having difficulty not being able
to keep an erection can cause physiological and physical health issues.
When to See a Doctor
Impotence can be caused by an underlying health issue. You should schedule an
appointment with your doctor if you have any known health conditions. Depending
on the cause of the condition, your doctor might recommend medications that treat an
underlying health condition. If you do not have any other health issues, you doctor
may prescribe medications that directly treat erectile dysfunction.

If the medication does not solve the problem, your doctor might adjust the dosage.
Your doctor might suggest alternative medications if you take nitrate drugs or have
low blood pressure. If you have liver disease or kidney disease, you might need other
treatment options.
Self Injection Medications
A self injection medication can be used to treat impotence. Alprostadil is injected into
the base of the penis. Phentolamine and papaverine can also be used as penile
injection medications. After an injection, you might be able to maintain an erection
for an hour.
Penis Pumps and Bands
A penis pump creates a suction that increases blood flow to your penis. After getting
an erection, a band is placed over the penis to maintain the erection. Your penis might
be cold while using a penis pump, and you might not be able to ejaculate.
Erectile Dysfunction Herbs
Herbs can be used to treat erectile dysfunction. Before taking any herbs, you should
ask your doctor if the supplements will interfere with any other health conditions.
Herbs may cause severe side effects in men who take nitrates.
Many men can treat their erectile dysfunction by losing weight and quitting smoking.
Your doctor can prescribe nicotine replacement products. Exercise can also be used

Research allows us to better understand what is unknown, how a human thinks, why a
dog barks when they hear a stranger approaching or that the earth is round and not
flat. Research allows us to find answers to the questions we have. Research attempts
to both understand and define. There are three kinds of research; Explanatory;

What is different about attitude measurement compared to other phenomena we
might study? What does this require us to do differently in defining variables
compared to the measurement of other phenomena? Is there any characteristic of the
survey method that makes this problem easier to overcome?
Attitude measurement is when a research is studying the reaction of participants to a
certain phenomena; while when studying a phenomena you are attempting to explore
and describe it. When measuring a phenomena the variables are clear and known
while with attitude measurement they are not. In order to overcome the lack of
control over the variable within attitude measurements you can create a clear

a school, or anywhere for that matter. This Choose One advertisement from

young, Asian boy, about the age of seven or eight. In his hands, cupped in front of
him, he holds a Kinder chocolate egg. He is wearing a red t shirt with a blue collar
and blue jeans. On his right is a blonde, Caucasian girl, roughly the same age as the
boy next to her. She is wearing a purple and grey horizontally striped long sleeve

Shot boundary and classification of digital video is most important step for effective

Transition, Video Retrieval I.INTRODUCTION: The advances in the data capturing,
storage, and communication technologies have made vast amounts of video data
available to consumer and enterprise applications [1]. However, interacting with
multimedia data, and video in particular, requires more than connecting with data
banks and delivering data via networks to customers, homes or offices. We still have
limited tools and applications to describe, organize, and manage video data. The
fundamental approach is to index video data and make it a structured media.
Manually generating video content description is time consuming and thus more
costly to the point that it s almost impossible. This is because of the structure of
video data,
Mitochondria Personal Statement
Mitochondriaaa, praaay for us, mocked my fifth grade classmate, bent on driving
our science teacher insane. I was only 11 years old, but at that moment, learning
about mitochondria in my tiny classroom, I became transfixed. Throughout my life, I
ve recognized two constants: a love for science and a passion for learning. Whether
learning about the physical forces governing a sunset, the sociological impact on
schizophrenia, or the pathogenesis of bacterial diseases, I am captivated by science.
However, one question always lingered in the back of my mind: How am I going to
harness my passion to benefit the world around me? Becoming a physician seemed
to be the obvious answer, yet doubts clouded that notion. However, when I immersed
myself in diverse medical experiences, and pursued the passion within me, all doubts
ceased. As my experiences increased, my desire to attend medical school flourished.

small things in life pushes me to translate their magnificence into a more tangible
reality. Whether by utilizing the foundational knowledge behind medicine to
correctly treat patients, or simply by opening the eyes of another to the wonderful
world of science, I aspire to use my passion to better the world around

are offered are FDA approved birth control methods, emergency contraception, and

are delivered to patients going to the Planned Parenthood facilities and receiving the
treatments (benefits) that are needed for them. The benefits are funded by Medicaid
but do not need to be a current Medicaid patient to take part. Many people can

The current policy in this area is President Trump has signed an executive order
barring federal funds from organizations that promote abortion around the world,

funds from organizations around the world has strongly affected Planned Parenthood

that they provide emergency contraceptive to all patients and give needed resources to
The Death Of Love
Stirring, Serena instantly noticed something was wrong; something felt different
She could not feel his strong muscly arms over her lover around her, she could not
even feel the warmth of his body near her and it left feeling a little discontent. She
fully remembered being half awake and his warm body pressing against her back as
his arms wrapped around her; embracing her tightly upon returning from his late
shift. She recalled mumbles words of love, and his sudden snoring soon after he
drifted off to sleep.
Her lover did not live with Serena, but she insisted he come over; they had been
dating for just over five months they did not plan it, it just rather happened and
neither could place a finger on the exact moment. However, once united together
they became a truly formidable couple and most of the time inseparable; they
thrived off each other in many ways. As she adjusted her eyes, she tilted her head up
and saw a familiar face.

Phenomenon And The Life Of Albert Einstein s A Beautiful
Mind
The brain is the most complicated organ in the human body. It has the important job
of controlling our motor functions, our ability to balance, and interpret information
that comes from the eyes, ears, and other sensory organs. The brain controls our
feelings, behaviors, experiences, as well as our memories and self awareness. So,
the fact that some people believe we only use about 10 20% of our brains seems
impossible. According to some, all humans can only use about ten percent of the brain
. If we were to access the remaining ninety percent, we would have remarkable,
godlike abilities. It has been said that Albert Einstein was a part of the few to harness
full usage of the brain. Throughout the existence of Hollywood, many movies and
shows discussed this curious myth.
A Beautiful Mind is a movie based on the Life of John Nash. John was a diagnosed
with paranoid schizophrenia who suffered from delusional episodes. What made him
stand out was not his mental illness, but his mathematical genius. He saw the world
in ways that no one else could. He had a true gift that no one had seen before. Early
in his career, he made an astonishing discovery that eventually led to him receiving a
Nobel Prize. His mental illnesses enabled him to grasp abstract concepts that till then
were unattainable by others.
Phenomenon, starring John Travolta, is a movie about the life of an average
mechanic in a small town; who one day transforms into a genius with telekinetic
powers. During a night
First Triumvirate Essay
Cassus, Pompey, and Caesar all got together and made the first triumvirate because
they all had claims to the throne, and splitting power equally solved many disputes.
However, the First Triumvirate worked mostly behind the scenes. Crassus and
Pompey both died, leaving Caesar in charge of all of the Roman Empire. After
Caesar was assassinated, Pompey and Cassus were both sent to war and killed
abroad. The Second Triumvirate was made of Octavian, Marc Antony, and Lepidus.
These three men were pretty much emperors and were given highest power. Marc
Antony fell in love with Cleopatra VII, and he moved to Alexandria to be with her.
The Triumvirate then split the Roman Empire into three: Octavian took the West,
Antony took the East, and Lepidus made do... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Essay Two Not many offices were held by the lower Roman class, the plebians.
Most higher offices were held by the patricians, or the aristocrats. Several offices
were open to the plebs, however. Tribunes were officials elected to represent the
plebians under the magistrates. The office of aedile (the person who maintained
public buildings and organized festivals) was also an option. A pleb could also
become a praetor (a general and mayor rolled into one) or a quaestor (a financial
supervisor). However, you couldn t just be elected into any given office with no
experience. The cursus honorum was a system that allowed you to advance through
the ranks, kind of like how American presidents are usually governors, then senators,
and then elected president. However, success could be dangerous in Roman politics.
The Gracchi were two brothers who were both elected to be tribunes, and they tried
to pass legislation to take wrongfully acquired land from the patricians, and put it
back in the hands of the original plebian owners. Both brothers were assassinated for

Why Is Individual Liberty Important
I believe in individual liberty it is extremely importance to any society. One thing
that is important to an individual liberty is freedom, which I value the most today.
Freedom give people the opportunity to speak, the right to their own opinion and
pursue happiness. Freedom is very important to every human being because it gives
you a chance to express yourself and give you an overall quality of life. However,
there is certain limitations when it comes to freedom that we all must live with and
that is the laws that we all must obey.
People have the right to freedom of speech however, every person is responsible for
their own action, life, and well being, everyone should be judge individually

an unwanted pregnancy and decide not to carry the baby to full term by
terminating the pregnancy by utilizing a safe and affordable abortion, society has

This is a woman rights and should stay a woman chose to decide whether she want
to carry a baby full term or not. Stop legalizing abortion in my opinion would not
be in the best interest of the women. There could be several reasons why a woman
doesn t want to continue her pregnancy, it could be for reason like she was rape,
not financially ready, to young or to old, not marry, and not stable to start a family. I
personally feel that having an abortion it not affecting anyone or anybody. It is a
personal decision for the individual. Laws are created to protect the

  • 5. How To Switch Roles In Johann Sebastian Bach The sixteenth notes in the red box acts as a junction into having the two soloists switch roles and gives the intro to the second theme a lot of suspended and anticipated notes in the sequence. Moreover, the blue box in figure 7.1 represents the exact same lyrical line in figure 5.2 except this time the roles are now switched; the first violinsolo showcase the moving sixteenth notes first, followed by a group of eighth notes with the second violin solo, then the second violin solo repeats the sixteenth notes ascending and ends the bar with the two soloists together with eighth notes just like the previous figure. As a continuation of using repetition, Bach goes as far as to have the soloists in the second theme the measures after the group of simultaneous eighth notes switch roles again and have the second violin solo start the theme and have the first violin solo follow as a sort of echo effect. Martin Luther, not knowing what he had just started, walked away from the church beginning what has come to be known as the Protestant Reformation. In England the power of the nobility increases due to a victory in the English Civil War and the Glorious Revolution of 1658. • 8. Florida Hospital And The United States Florida Hospital has grown to be one of the largest healthcare providers in the United States. Impressively, Florida Hospital had a very humble beginning and a modest growth. In 1908, a small group of Seventh Day Adventists in Orlando developed their vision of bringing health care to the area. As part of their philanthropy, they were able to raise the funds necessary to purchase Florida Hospital s first facility near Lake Estelle. It was a two story farmhouse that had a wraparound porch and had once served those needing treatment for tuberculosis. The facility had the capacity to care for 20 patients at any given time. During the 1950s, Florida Hospital transformed its two story farm house to a structure that was able to care for 160 patients. They were able to make improvements to the facility, such as air conditioning, that allowed for year round care to patients. With each purchase of new facilities in the decades to follow, Florida Hospital has grown to over 20 hospitals large, providing services to many people who live in Central Florida and the surrounding areas. This has allowed the network to include many leaders in their respective fields to offer care to patients in many different specialized areas. The mission of Florida Hospital was developed with inspiration from the study of scripture. Since the founders of Florida Hospital, the Seventh day Adventist Church, were faith based, the mission became to extend the healing ministry of Christ. This mission drives
  • 9. Comparing Opera Seria to Orfeo Ed Euridice by Gluck and... Orfeo ed Euridice by Gluck, was written in 1762 and The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart was written in 1786. It is interesting to analyse the changes and developments from opera seria to these two examples. During the eighteenth century, composers wrote in a style of opera called opera seria. Opera seria had the following characteristics: They used similar plots involving a hero and usually some sort of conflict of human passions, and these operas were often based on a story from an ancient Greek or Latin Author. The opera always consisted of three acts with alternating recitatives and arias. To show the virtuosic skill of the singer, cadenzas were used within arias. The action was created from the dialogue within the recitatives, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were also stricter demands of the solo singers. The two mid eighteenth century composers, Jomelli and Traetta played a big part in the reform of Italian opera in the late 18th century by influencing the French towards opera of a more international flavour. Born in Bohemia, Gluck built a more international style of opera. He was strongly affected by the movement of the reform in the 1750s. He became court composer to the Emperor at Vienna after visits to London and studying under Samartini in Italy. After a collaboration with a poet named Raniero Calzabigi, Gluck composed two of his famous operas, `Orfeo ed Euridice in 1762 and `Alceste in 1767. Gluck s aims were to remove the unpopular characteristics of opera seria, as shown by his famous quote: To confine music to its proper function of serving the poetry for the expression and the situations of the plot He removed the overuse of da capo aria or the showing off desire of the singer; he also broke down the contrast of the recitative and aria and gave his opera more dramatic relevance than had been the case in opera seria: I believed that my greatest effort should be directed to seek in a beautiful simplicity ...and there is no accepted rule that I have not thought should be gladly sacrificed in favour of effectiveness. One important way, in which Gluck reformed opera, was the use of his choruses as we can see in the beginning of Orfeo ed Euridice. Example below.

Her tits weren t huge, but provided a nice handful. Her tight ass and toned legs got attention everywhere she went. However it was her hair and face that really completed the package. She had straight brunette hair that went down to the middle of her back. Her face was a bit small, which made her medium sized lips look big and luscious and her eyes real expressive. I swear that a single glance from those eyes would render most men speechless. The funny thing is that I don t think that Julie realized how hot she looked. Socially, she palled around with everyone. • 11. Engaging The Millennials American politics and the government surrounding it are often marred in cynicism and negativity. Such skepticism is, obviously, unhealthy and is not very conducive when it comes to encouraging the younger generation to get involved in political affairs. David Rankin attempts to tackle this dilemma in his 2013 book US Politics and Generation Y: Engaging the Millennials. In this paper, Rankin s work will be summarized, followed by an evaluation of myself using Rankin s criteria, and then discussing a recent political event that arrested my attention during my tenure as a Political Science 104 (POL 104) student at the University of Wisconsin Richland. According to the textbook American Government: Power Purpose, Congress has the power to deny public benefits to [illegal immigrants], but doing so would go against long standing traditions in American political culture (Lowi et al. 165). We are a nation founded and built by immigrants and it is highly unlikely that all of those immigrants were here legally. If we were to attempt to deport the millions of illegals in this country, we would be committing an injustice to basic human dignity and the principles that the Founders envisioned this country could uphold. As a final point, once again taken from Power Purpose, the authors of the book cite Alexander Bickel, a constitutional scholar from Yale Law School, as saying that the Constitution begins with We the People of the United States ; likewise the Bill of Rights refers to the rights of people, not the rights of citizens (Lowi et al. 165). This only further proves the point that, at least in part, America was established on a compassionate and humanistic foundation. Despite whatever hypocrisies and personal failings that the Founding Fathers may have possessed they were, at their core, essentially good men who wanted nothing but the best for the nation that they so dearly loved. Regardless of the eventual outcome on this issue one thing remains certain that poor and disenfranchised people will continue to seek a better life for themselves and, if we continue to reject those downtrodden by society, then can we really continue to proclaim to be one of the greatest nations in the

Kanye is acknowledging the Five Percent Nation s belief that black men are Gods while also staying true to the Christian belief that he must submit to God. Both religious influences from the Five Percent Nation and Christianity have seemingly come together into Kanye s

In fact global management involve many aspect that do not require a simple preparation in a specific business field, but it rather requires a broad preparation on different fields, such as international laws, commerce policies and people customs just to mention a few. Just less than a century ago, management rules were very different from now, work was mainly composed of manual labor task, this means that a traditional pyramid hierarchy with employees and managers loyally obedient to their top managers, was a solid structure to build a good and healthy business. But starting a few decades ago, as work begun to require less manual labor and more knowledge work, things have changed dramatically bringing modern management to new standards as depicted by Peter Drucker who pointed out the importance of entrepreneurship and innovation into the management world. A further evolution occurred in the 1970s with Warren Bennis who stated that more than just a manager, an effective leader was defined as someone with the ability to influence and motivate others not only to perform work tasks but also to support the organization s values and meet the organization s goals. I loved that glove, and I held onto it for years. During those years, I grew quite a bit and it was obvious my glove needed to grow too. It s during this time where he becomes acquainted with the glove, which becomes customized to the player. It is impossible to break in a glove the same way as someone else. The shape of and way we move our catching hand, how we sleep on it, what kind of practice balls we take, everything breaks down the leather and molds it to fit its player. It becomes less of an extraneous object and more of a part of him. In this sense, a player s glove can easily be seen as an extension of himself. Baldwin gives a compelling reason for stating that Americans must separate themselves from Christianity in order to progress into a world where everyone can live free. While the blacks lack freedom because of society s treatment of them, whites lack freedom in their blind following of the belief that they possess superiority over blacks because of skin color. Despite the initial comfort that religion wrapped around Baldwin, he saw its hypocrisy that ensnared the other members and continued the long chain of hate among Americans of every color. Americans interpretation of the message of Christianity may lead them to judge others, but Baldwin takes the true message of love and applies it to his plea to have hope. Baldwin states that he and believers like him will force [their] brothers to see themselves as they are, to cease fleeing from reality and being to change it (8). Business intelligence (BI) provides tools that revolutionize the way organizations manage business and decision making. It allows them to transform mass amounts of raw data into reliable information necessary to make important business decisions. BI delivers relevant and reliable information to those who seek it with the goal of achieving better decisions faster. An employee is independently able to navigate through a company s data and find what he or she needs without relying on others. This means an organization no longer needs to dig through compiled webs of linked spreadsheets, analyze the data manually and mash together reports. Instead, employees can use BI systems to request the specific information that is useful for them (Hitachi Solutions Canada, 2014). BI allows managers to reach the most accurate and contemporaneous information an organization s database cannot retrieve. The software offers applications for both data analysis and presentation of results. Applications such as data mining and decision support systems allow one to contemplate how he or she wants to analyze the data. Data mining refers to the process of searching for valuable business information in a large database, data warehouse, or data mart. Postmodernity ushered in the notion of multiplicity, the destruction of universal truths and hybridity of identity and, a more chaotic social landscape full of fluid identities and diverse social groups, (Ward, 2003, p. 174). This was in stark contrast to the homogeneity of modernity. Modernity was built upon the concepts of universal truths, utopian visions and rationalism. This destruction of universal truths and the concept of multiple truths as its replacement is deeply threatening to those communities who perceive postmodernity as an attempt to destroy their mode of being, and indeed their identity. The validity of multiple truths requires acceptance and tolerance by society, and a willingness to accede your truth may not be the only truth. This is none more apparent than in the re emergence of religious identity in the public sphere, increases in religious diversity have brought religionback into public discourse in a totally unanticipated way, (Bouma G. , 2011, p. 27). The notion of multiple religious truths can be threatening to societies which have previously only validated one or a few. In novels and memoirs however, these rules may be overlooked in order to effectively communicate a certain tone. A fantastic example of this is in Elie Wiesel s memoir, Night, where he recalls the story of his time surviving the Holocaust . In this memoir, Wiesel uses characteristics such as repetition, contrasting words, and short statements to make the reader feel as if he is recalling the story right beside him. These different attributes to the writinghelp the reader fully understand how the Holocaust emotionally affected its victims. An interesting aspect of Wiesel s writing style is his tendency to use floral descriptions directly over the somber feel of the Holocaust. By doing this, he creates a brief moment of peace amidst the chaos without straying far from the grave tone he has established. An example of this is when Wiesel sees his father smile for the first time since they were sent to the labor camps. Then he smiled ... The snow continued to fall in thick flakes over the corpses (86). Immediately after his father smiles, Wiesel extinguishes any hope that may have come from that moment when he reminds the reader that there are still cadavers surrounding them. Effective communication of hopelessness arises from this style, for whenever there is an optimistic event, the hope that came with it is abruptly taken away. Repetition in writing emphasises certain points or

They are uncountable, and that is the reality. Modernist writers strive to emulate this type of reality into their own work as well. In such novels, there is a tendency to lack a chronological or even logical narrativeand there are also frequent breaks in narratives where the perspectives jump from one to another without warning. Because there are many points of view and not all of them are explained, therefore, modernist novels often tend to have narrative perspectives that suddenly shift or cause confusion. However, her impressions were of no interest to the Collector, he was only concerned to give her a good time (26). Sometimes, the narration can switch abruptly between multiple people without any prior warning whatsoever so that the true feelings felt by the speakers can be fully expressed in the writing. At one point, Aziz, Ronny, and Fielding all converse with one another, but each of them see a different situation unfolding before them. Ronny wished to lash back at Aziz but it was his job to avoid incidents, so he said nothing, and ignored the provocation that Aziz continued to offer. Aziz was provocative (82). To Ronny, an invitation to sit down and join them has become a provocation (82). However, the narrative suddenly jumps to Aziz when it says that [he] did not mean to be impertinent to Mr. Heaslop, who had never done him harm before comfort could be regained. (82). In Aziz s perspective, he is trying his best to be hospitable to Ronny, despite knowing Ronny s hate for him. To each man, his own thoughts were the truth. Thus, the views are directly compared to one another and suggest that there can be truth in multiple ways and perspectives. These

Where Children Live By Naomi Shihab Nye Summary Naomi Shihab Nye s poem Where Children Live provides a nostalgic sentiment about childhood innocence and the carefree attitude that gets abandoned as children grow into adults. Using the New Criticism critical approach, I will discuss how Nye uses various literary techniques to tell the story of the childhood innocence that gets lost as people grow older. To begin, Nye organizes the poem into three separate stanzas. The first stanza describes the tone of the homes where children live. The second stanza describes what is missing from the homes where children no longer live. The final stanza discusses the nature and environment surrounding the homes where children live. The first stanza and the last stanza provide an optimistic and happy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nye uses words including corpses and short lived to emphasize how childhood innocence is only temporary and dies quickly. Also, when comparing the word choice in this stanza with the other stanzas, it becomes obvious that Nye fully believes a house is not a home without children. In the first stanza of the poem, Nye states, Homes where children live exude a pleasant rumpledness (475); however, in the second stanza of the poem, Nye says, And the house takes on a new face, dignified (475). In the first stanza when the poet references children she uses the word homes, which implies warmth and family. In the second stanza, which focuses on adulthood, the poet uses the word house, which sounds less welcoming and inviting. The second stanza also describes what happens as children grow up and become adults. Nye explains, To be a child again one would need to shed details (475), which explains how people accumulate emotional baggage and put up walls as they get older. The poet also addresses the often mundane lives of adults in her second stanza when she compares adulthood to childhood by stating, Grown ups like swings, leafy plants, slow motion back and forth. / While the yard of a child is strewn with the corpses/ of bottle rockets and whistles, (475). Nye implies that adults live dull and simple lives while children live lives full of excitement and adventure.

  • 38. Ballad Of Birmingham By Dudley Randall Ballad of Birmingham by Dudley Randall is a poem published in 1968 revealing a conversation between an African American mother and her daughter. The poem starts off with the young girl asking her mother for permission to participate in the Freedom March in downtown Birmingham; however, her mother refuses because reasonably so, parents do not want their child caught up in the middle of chaos, especially a dangerous one. During the 1960s, riots, influenced by violence such as bomb, hose, and dog attacks, were common. It is understandable that the mother did not want her daughter exposed to this violence. In fact, she wanted her daughter as far away from the terror as possible. The one place that many would resort to would be a sacred place, the church. Throughout history, the church have always been looked at as a place of holiness and can be referred to as a place of safety. Realistically enough, just because the church is deemed a holy and sacred place does not mean that it is exempt from evil terrors. Tuning into the poet s biography, Dudley Randall, an African Americanpoet from Detroit, Michigan, was the leading exponent of the new black poetry movement of the 1960s (Dudley). His mother and father were both educated people, his mother being a teacher and father being a minister.
