John Muir Day was celebrated on April 21st at Sciennes Primary to honor Scottish-American naturalist John Muir. Muir was born on April 21st, 1838 in Dunbar, Scotland. He studied at the University of Wisconsin and went on to become an explorer, geologist, writer, scientist, inventor, conservationist, environmentalist, campaigner, botanist, chemist and ornithologist. Some of his notable accomplishments included a 1000 mile walk, establishing Yosemite National Park, writing about glaciation, and convincing President Roosevelt to sign bills protecting 5 National Parks.
