SCIENCE LIBRARY
• A library is a collection of information, sources,
resources and services, organized for use, and
maintained by a public body, an institution or a
private individual.
• In the more traditional sense, it means a collection of
books.
• A science library holds materials that support study
and research in the fields of physics, chemistry,
biology, environmental science, medicine, etc.
• Science library can be a wonderful teaching- aid for
realising the demands of developmental education.
OBJECTIVES OF ORGANIZING A
SCIENCE LIBRARY
 To provide information sources which give ideas
and facts that have collected for thousands of
years.
 To help teachers and pupils update scientific
knowledge.
 To enrich curricular experiences.
 To know about the contributions of former
scientists.
 To develop a scientific attitude among students.
 To facilitate self studies.
 To understand the on going research works and
future scope.
 To enable pupils participate in discussion and
project works meaningfully.
 To develop the habit of concentrated reading of
knowledgeable books with a purpose.
 To develop in the students critical attitude and
capacity for independent judgement.
ORGANISATION OF SCIENCE
LIBRARY
 A typical library is composed of a number of departments,
sections or units.
 Science teacher can equip the library depending on the
availability of funds and accommodation facilities for the
purpose.
 Science library must keep in an attractive room that is well
ventilated.
 Select books which cover a wide range of topics.
 There should be provision for coverage of topics in physics,
chemistry, biology, geology, environment, ecology, pollution,
etc.
 Have some books on the lives and achievements of great
scientists.
 Provision for books on scientific discoveries, magic in
science, experiments in science, fun in science, etc.
 There must be a bulletin board in the library
highlighting important news related to science.
 There should be provision for the students to sit, read
and write in the library.
 There should be a librarian to invigilate the actions.
 It should be kept open everyday.
