Science is Fun
Learning Intention:-
To become interested in Science
To make scientific observations
To become familiar with safety in Science
To safely conduct a simple experiment
Success Criteria:-
- I can use my senses to observe interesting
Science demonstrations
- I can apply safety rules and use safety
equipment to perform an experiment
- I can make Slime
WHAT IS
SCIENCE?
Getting Knowledge Ready
Hands up any one who has
never done any science before!
Observations in Science
We need to use our senses
RED ALERT
WE NEVER TASTE OR
TAKE A BIG WHIFF OF
ANYTHING IN THE
SCIENCE LABORATORY
WE USE THE WAFTING
TECHNIQUE TO SMELL
STUFF

-some practice examples
Dropper Bottle
Making Slime
1. Collect a lab coat and safety glasses
2. At your station you will find :-
a plastic cup
a paddle pop stick
a 100ml measuring cylinder
a 10ml measuring cylinder
borax solution
PVA solution
Food dye
sealable bag
marking pen
3. Measure out 30ml PVA solution
4. Measure out 5ml Borax solution
5. Add these two solutions to the plastic cup with 2 drops of food dye
6. Very, very gently mix together using the paddle pop stick. Once it
starts to get thick (congeal) mix faster, until you have your SLIME.
7. Play with it. Place it in the sealable bag to take home.
8. Label the bag ‘Slime’ so people know what is in the bag.
WARNING• DO NOT EAT OR LET LITTLE BROTHERS
AND SISTERS OR PETS EAT YOUR SLIME.
IT WILL MAKE THEM SICK
• WASH YOUR HANDS
AFTER YOU PLAY WITH IT
• IT WILL LAST LONGER KEPT IN THE SEALED
BAG
HAVE FUN
