Hello and welcome
to my Science Class!
My 5
Classroom

Quick list so you know what to expect
from attending my class
Rule 1: Be
on time.
We start our class on time
so we can end on time.
Rule 2: Raise
your hand if you
have a question.
Rule 3:
Listen to
your classmate
talking in front.
Rule 4: Wait
for your turn.
Raise your hand and wait to be acknowledged.
Rule 5: Keep
your space tidy.
Only the things required for class
should be on your desk.
My 5
Golden
Reminders
For a fun and
productive class!
01 Be honest
02 Be responsible.
03 Be respectful of others.
04 Be kind, polite, and caring.
05 Be a good listener.
Unit 1 : matter
Describing different
Objects Based on
their characteristics.
At the end of the lesson the
learners should be able to:
Recognize the characteristic
of matter
Describe the matter changes
in solid
Matter is
everything
that takes
up space and
has mass.
Everything around you is
matter: the air you
breathe, the water you
drink, the food you eat.
They are all matter. But,
they are all different
kinds of matter.
LESSON 1 : CHARACTERISTICS
OF SOLID
SOLIS HAS CLEAR AND
DEFINITE SHAPE
1.
2. SOLID HAS A
DEFINITE VOLUME
VOLUME IS THE
AMOUMNT OF
SPACE AN OBJECT
OCCUPIES
3. SOLID HAS A
DEFINITE MASS
MASS IS THE
AMOUMNT OF MATTER
THAT MAKES UP AN
OBJECT.
4. SOLID OBJECTS HAS COLOR.
4. SOLID OBJECTS HAVE COLOR.
5. SOLID OBJECTS HAVE TEXTURE.
5. SOLID OBJECTS HAVE TEXTURE.
5. SOLID OBJECTS HAVE TEXTURE.
6. SOLID OBJECTS HAVE ODOR
object shape color texture odor
ex. ball round orange hard none
activity 1: LIST EXAMPLES OF
SOLID MATERIALS AND DESCRIBE
EACH (pp. 10)
Thank You!
Do you have any questions for
me before we go?
What do you think will happen
if you leave the faucet open?
What do you think will happen
if you leave the faucet open?
CHARACTERISTICS OF LIQUID
Canister
Pitcher Coke Bottle
You may like drinking a glass of
milk before going to bed at night
You may also drink fruit juice in
the morning. These drinks are all
liquid matter
1.
When you pour your drink
into any container, like a
mug or a drinking glass,
the liquid takes the shape
of the container. Liquids
only occupy a definite
space inside a container.
The more the amount of liquid, the more
mass it has. The more mass It has, the
heavier it is. So, a bigger container is
needed to hold liquid with more mass. For
example, a pitcher filled with water is
heavier than a glass full of water. This is
because the pitcher is bigger than the glass.
So, the pitcher of water has more mass
than the glass of water.
Liquid substances will overflow when there
is no more space to occupy in a container.
Try to pour water in an already filled glass.
You will notice that the water in the glass
overflows. Remember that no two objects
can occupy the same space at the same
time.
Some liquids have a unique scent that tells
you what they are even without seeing
them. For example, you can tell the smell of
vinegar from perfume.
Liquid substances like water are colorless
or transparent. But liquid can also be
colored when mixed with other substances.
Examples of these are coffee, milk, and
juice.
Water and mango juice are both liquids.
But water has no taste, while mango juice
tastes sweet.
Liquids can turn into other forms. A liquid substance freezes
when it reaches its freezing point of zero degree Celsius.
For example, liquid water changes into solid ice when placed
in the freezer. But ice can turn into water again when
heated.
A liquid can also turn into gas when placed in a high
temperature. Liquid has its boiling point of 100 degrees
Celsius. When water boils, smoke comes up. This is called
steam. Some of the water turns into gas. This process is
called evaporation.

  • 16. At the end of the lesson the learners should be able to: Recognize the characteristic of matter Describe the matter changes in solid
  • 17. Matter is everything that takes up space and has mass.
  • 18. Everything around you is matter: the air you breathe, the water you drink, the food you eat. They are all matter. But, they are all different kinds of matter.

  • 31. Thank You! Do you have any questions for me before we go?
  • 32.
  • 33. What do you think will happen if you leave the faucet open?
  • 34. What do you think will happen if you leave the faucet open?
  • 37. You may like drinking a glass of milk before going to bed at night You may also drink fruit juice in the morning. These drinks are all liquid matter
  • 38. 1. When you pour your drink into any container, like a mug or a drinking glass, the liquid takes the shape of the container. Liquids only occupy a definite space inside a container.
  • 39. The more the amount of liquid, the more mass it has. The more mass It has, the heavier it is. So, a bigger container is needed to hold liquid with more mass. For example, a pitcher filled with water is heavier than a glass full of water. This is because the pitcher is bigger than the glass. So, the pitcher of water has more mass than the glass of water.
  • 40. Liquid substances will overflow when there is no more space to occupy in a container. Try to pour water in an already filled glass. You will notice that the water in the glass overflows. Remember that no two objects can occupy the same space at the same time.
  • 41. Some liquids have a unique scent that tells you what they are even without seeing them. For example, you can tell the smell of vinegar from perfume. Liquid substances like water are colorless or transparent. But liquid can also be colored when mixed with other substances. Examples of these are coffee, milk, and juice.
