-629587989351What are the key components of the plan? The large focus of the plan is on language arts, parent involvement, science and math. The biggest components are addressing literacy and parent involvement. Who were the key authors? At our school we have a committee of teachers who sit on the School Improvement team. I am one of those teachers. We also bring in parents who have children in our building and who may also be an employee. We have two improvement teams. One is our school improvement team and one is our Title One improvement team. The school improvement team consists of 6 teachers, 1 special area teacher, 1 Title One teacher, 1 LAP teacher, and the 2 administrators. Within this team the Lap teacher and Title One teacher are the lead teachers. They do much of the behind the scenes work alongside the administrators. How is the plan working? The plan is successful to some degree. I feel we focus so much effort and energy on one subject to raise the scores, and have a more successful outcome, that at times then another subject lacks and those scores drop. We need to find a balance to being successful and challenging in all areas. We have a lot of focus on parent involvement which has been very successful. We have many parent nights, take home projects, and resources to provide. At one of our parent nights we were able to give away free computers to many of our families in attendance. If you were the principal what would you be doing differently?I would project and communicate the vision and plan more frequently and in better detail. I often feel those who are not on the committee don’t realize what the plan states. I notice that some staff does not even feel they really understand it or even know where to find it. I hope at our meeting this fall I can mention this and we can address the fact that many teachers do not have the knowledge of the plan.Describe how you used this project to initiate the Vision for learning project. We looked at the SIP as a team and examined the pros and the cons. We then looked at what our ideal school was going to be and decided what parts of the plan would be effective and what we would like to change. We made sure to have a balance between subject areas and focused on the community involvement.00What are the key components of the plan? The large focus of the plan is on language arts, parent involvement, science and math.
